[Music] hey guys so today I am going to be working on the stove backsplash for my kitchen and this is the design that I am going to be doing so we're going to start off by measuring the space where the backsplash is going to start okay so we're gonna just you know continue on the herringbone pattern on the bottom part and I'm going to use this 1 by 2 it's a very cheap piece of wood and just measure it for that space so this is going to hold up our tile like a ledge pretty much since we don't have anything holding up the tile this is also gonna keep the towel from slipping down and sliding down and moving out of place so the space between my cabinet right there is about 31 inches in width so I'm using a hand so if you have an electric saw go ahead and use that I'm okay with my hand saw it works for me once I have my wood cut to size I'm gonna go ahead and screw it on to the wall but make sure you use a level you know to make sure that the wood or your ledge is perfectly even or straight okay I'm also going to use some of my tile just to make sure you know I know exactly where to put the line for my wood for my wood for my ledge piece so as you guys can see I use a piece of my child just to mark out where the tile will end and just add an extra piece because remember the space in between each tile so I just added an extra bit of space as well so now using my level I'm just gonna use this to create or draw a straight level line using a level while doing you know the backsplash also ensures that everything is straight you want it at least 95 percent straight I know there there's no such thing as everything being perfectly straight when it comes down to Thailand all of this stuff and a lot of people have told me that you know mostly guys that I tried to hire to do this work but I am going to try my best to get it straight because that's what I want okay I'm doing all this work because it's saving me about eight to nine hundred dollars and the estimate I got the first time did not include a stove backsplash it was just simply to put tile on the wall did not include tile or adhesive or the grout just the work was eight hundred dollars just to put it up that's it all right so that's why I'm doing my work myself if I'm able to do it and I know how to do it I'm just gonna go ahead and do it and save the money and use that on something else okay so as you guys could see I found a stud so I'm just gonna screw in my one by two in place and this is gonna help keep our tile from slipping out of place once we start laying it on the wall make sure you have your tile nice and you know even with the line that you created and as you guys can see on the wall I kept going back and forth back and forth back and forth trying to figure out where exactly I want my child to start where I want it to end and well I went a little bit past where I wanted to start which is fine with me it's just less tile that I have to cut so I did decide to go a little bit farther past you know by bringing the ledge down a little bit further past my original marker which is fine less time to cut less work okay okay so now using my little handy notch which I got for like was 99 cents I think I got this one from Lowe's I'm just going to use the same side that I use for the herringbone pattern which by the way I'll have the link down below to the herringbone pattern that I have up on the back part of well does the backsplash okay the backsplash alright so now putting my tile in place I'm using a beveled edge subway tile and you see I'm jiggling it a bit just to kind of get it in place once I get that one in place I'm gonna go ahead and measure and cut a 45-degree angle for this other piece this is where the herringbone pattern with pretty much end and then my backsplash will start but first I have to finish this area so that little triangular piece came off of that other piece there that I had to cut to create a 45 degree angle so I'm gonna speed this up a bit just so you guys could see the process it's very easy I honestly believe anyone can do this I use a manual tile cutter which was $20 and I got that one from Home Depot and I'm also using spacers to hold my tiles up because they were slipping all the way down onto the ledge but I also wanted a little bit of space between the ledge and the tile itself I'm also going to show you guys how I make my cuts to go around the countertop I do plan on changing the countertops and you know priming the rest of the kitchen this green color that you see is the original color of my kitchen we had the whole kitchen primed except for this area and this is like right behind the stove that's why you see those white areas right there and then all of a sudden it's green that's was that was my husband being a little bit lazy but it's okay I love him so much okay hey now using my rotary tool I'm going to cut out this little triangular part and this is going to fit exactly around the countertop and the wall to you know not give it that unfinished look and I'm using a diamond blade the diamond blade is the dremel brand I did get some from Amazon those work really well so if you don't want to get the Dremel brand get the one from Amazon make sure you use a bit of water this will help make the blade cut like butter and also reduce the amount of dust in your kitchen because I still had to use my kitchen I mean I still have to use my kitchen after you know I finished doing tile so so as you guys could see it fits around that corner really well and I'm just putting it in place and I also realized right there if you notice I have a little X on that tile right there I was supposed to take that out but then I decided to keep it because I just didn't want to do the extra work okay but right here I did have a little tile they remember I had a little triangular tile there I took that one out and now I'm just going to cut a piece of tile to fit there perfectly I'm not too concerned about the other tile because you're not gonna be able to see it once the stove the new stove is installed so that one that I just marked out and drew out that you'll be able to see so that's the one I will be working on right now all right so I make little cuts at a time and remember use a bit of water you can use like a little dropper or a spoon with a cup of water whatever is easiest for you I ended up using just a spoon and a cup of water but I think it would be much easier to use a dropper or even a little bottle with a hole in it you could squeeze the water in place but this piece of tile I didn't use any water because I was in a rush and I was trying to get this done so that's why there's a lot of dust kicking up like that yeah alright so once I got my tile nice and cut and it's clean it's perfect I'm gonna put it in place and remove any extra adhesive you don't want that to join in place or else you're gonna have to scrape that off in order to put other tile okay now for the frame of my backsplash where I'm gonna put the full marble tile I'm gonna use two clamps these were ninety-nine cents each and a bit of water to cut my 45-degree angle I actually use that same ruler from my herringbone video to mark out my 45-degree angle and you definitely want to make sure you use water to cut this angle if you're using a rotary tool okay you want it nice and clean and pretty much perfect I did drop one of my pieces about three times you guys I had to go back and get this same piece of trim about two to three times it was so frustrating but yeah I stopped dropping it because I was trying to see how it looked and it slipped out my hand so I'm a little clumsy sometimes alright so this is what it looks like when you got your top left and your bottom left together okay so that's what we're going for now I'm gonna cut the middle part because the two pieces of trim or a bit too short so and instead of me doing just two pieces of this tile trim I ended up doing three so two with a 45 degree angle on the right and left and then one regular bar in the middle and I want to apologize before the rest of the video continues on that part of the video was not filmed you guys so I really really I'm sorry about that I didn't realize my camera stopped filming while I was putting the tile up okay but it's pretty much the same process you put your adhesive on and you place your tile on to the wall and you pretty much you know put it together I had a bottom left and a bottom right and I had a top left and a top right angle and as you can see I'm using the blade to smooth out the cut so that it's nice and neat and perfect because you know you'll be able to see these lines you know when you put your tile in place and you frame out your stove backsplash alright guys so here I'm making the centerpieces so remember I had to cut two pieces down to size for the center part of the frame because I couldn't do just two pieces of the trim because it was too short so I just went for three instead of just two and I actually think it looks great with the three on each side so I'm just smoothing them out I actually clamp them together to make sure that they're nice and even and perfect alright so now going back in with my leveler I'm gonna check my measurements again okay and as you can see if you look on my left I already put the trim up so that's my bottom left and my top left and then my middle part that I was cutting so that's pretty much what I did I put the adhesive there and I put it in place okay so the leveler I'm used to make sure I have the center of my backsplash because it's very important that I get the center correctly because of the way I will be doing the tile on the backsplash which I am doing a subway tile style and also for the middle part of the trim which I'm putting up right now so you could see that I'm happy that part at least got film okay so basically what I do is put up my adhesive and put those in place so I just marked where it would stop just to keep me on track I also made a mark on the tile itself to know where the center is so not just you know eyeballing it so here I'm putting on adhesive by the way I didn't put in the top-left part cuz this was the part of the video where I dropped that piece okay so I actually finished that part in the end oh it wasn't film but I put that piece in pretty much when I was completely done with the backsplash all right so now I'm gonna go ahead and put on my first piece of tile which I measured out and cut using my rotary tool and my tile cutter I will be showing you how I do that this tile is not like the the the material is not the same as the subway tile that I use on my backsplash it's all almost more of a slate type of material is very hard so it doesn't easily cut using a manual tile cutter I had to use my dremel tool to create a very deep you know kind of score cut in it just for it to snap okay and I also used a wider notch to put on the adhesive since these are bigger tiles so just checking to make sure it's in the center cleaning off any adhesive that's on the top of the tile you don't want to let this stuff dry on top of the tile it's gonna be hard to clean off and it's just extra work so just checking the tile the space and this is the middle part I also mark this part but I'm also gonna double check using a tape measure to see that this is in the center these are 12 inch wide or 12 inch long tiles and just checking for the center is really easy okay so you're gonna see me use a tape measure to see if it's exactly in the middle all right so as you know I said it's it's a little bit extra time to just check but definitely worth it and definitely helps with my nerves because I know how I am and if something is not done right you know certain places where you're able to see it it's going to bother me if you can't see it and then I don't care okay all right so once I have that tile in place I'm just gonna use a screw this is a drywall screw to hold it in place because the tiles were slipping around so I'm gonna go ahead and measure out my cuts for the sides I'm doing this in a subway tile pattern so yeah I have a couple of cuts to do I'm trying to not do it too you know the exact measurement just leaving a little tiny bit of room so that I can put in my spacers so here I'm using my diamond wheel blade on my rotary tool I already have water on the tile and as you guys could see it's not cutting like butter because this is a stronger harder tile I think these are floor tiles if I'm not mistaken but they had them displayed as wall tile in Home Depot so they could probably be used for floor floor tile if you want to or backsplash it really just depends on what you want to do with it okay it's tile okay alright so as you guys can see you know I was getting some sparks from my journal my manager Moe my rotary tool I don't have a journal jermel's or expensive so that's why I got the Walmart rotary tool and I'm just using you know a diamond wheel on there so now I go in with my manual tile cutter and then I'm able to snap this tile in the parts that I need it okay not directly in half because the side is not exactly six inches wide so it's definitely shorter so I'm just you know applying adhesive as I go and cutting tile as I go I did not pre-cut all of the tile okay so just so anybody asks I cut the tile as I went I know some you know professionals or you know people who lay tile for a living pre-cut all their tiles so it makes their work easier for them but I don't have a tile cutting machine certain tiles I'll cut majority of them beforehand like a 45 degree angle cut I'll cut a lot of that like when I did the backsplash around the countertop that was easy to do but this part I didn't pre-cut so I just put adhesive as I went and I cut tile as I went all right you guys so now I'm gonna go in with my two other pieces which I actually I totally forgot to tell you I had to cut these pieces I had to cut about an inch off of these pieces so that they can fit in the space that I had there all right so I did have to cut those on the outer part I cut an inch off the middle ones I did not cut but the one two two you see how that one was sliding so these two I didn't have to cut and accidentally put that one on the wrong side because I am following a pattern that I did layout that I did do and if you notice the foam marbled marks are following a pattern so I did lay them out so that I can do a certain pattern you know that's that looks nice you know when you look at it so here I was driving myself a little crazy because I think that I need to realize that it looked off a little bit outside oh my gosh okay but yeah I was still trying to figure this one out and I was just you know whatever they're all going in the same direction that's fine with me you know it's very important that everything in my kitchen looks good to me cuz that's where I spent a lot of my time you know I do have three kids and I'm a stay-at-home mom and I from home YouTube is my job okay I haven't a whole other channel which I do mostly beauty related things and I also have a Cooking Channel so YouTube is pretty much my source of income besides being a mother which is my 24/7 365 job with no vacations no pay no nothing all I get in return is love and that's fine I'm okay with that but I do cook a lot and you know it I need to be in a space that I feel is beautiful so that's why I'm doing majority of the work in my kitchen to my liking so as you guys could see I'm scoring the tile he's a very strong tile by the way so you want some hearty tile you know go to Home Depot and check this one out alright so once I got my scouring done I'm gonna go and use my manual tile cutter make sure this is centered and then snap it in place okay when I snap it in place but snap it and apply my head adhesive and I'm using the same small notch this little notch is the best thing ever okay I do own two of the bigger kind but I prefer two small ones I have small hands that small and works for me so do whatever it is that's comfortable for you I know some people recommend it I use a bigger notch and whatever or a larger trial but I I like my small notch and my small trial whatever you want to call it okay works for me and gets the job done alright so on the bottom clearly as you can see I am going to have to do two pieces so I used my 1 by 2 scrap piece that I had leftover and put it under my towel just to keep my towel in place while I cut the two pieces that I would need to continue on the pattern honestly I don't think this was going to bother me because it was such a skinny piece I really wish I didn't have to but whatever it is what it is it still looks gorgeous ok so here I'm just putting the spacers in between all of the tile to make sure it's nice and even and the two pieces I cut off camera I just pretty much cut down the middle well not down the middle but one-third of the tiles to create those two smaller pieces and you'll see them all right now so you see that right there those two skinny pieces it's basically I guess yeah I guess a third of the tile or one fourth of the tile and yeah I got my middle part so this is the finished look I hope you guys enjoyed the video hope it was helpful to you if it was make sure to comment and subscribe and thumbs up the comments help the channel and the liking helps the channel so I just wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate your time and I appreciate you watching and I'll see you all very soon in another video love you guys bye [Music] [Music]
