what's up prop mob in today's video we're making a scarecrow [Music] [Applause] Halloween doesn't wait for anybody so we better get started uh for this absolutely awesome scarecrow I'm using one of the noodle bodies and if you're new to this channel we made these on one of the few tutorials back and it'll be linked below so we're using the noodle body and then I have this pumpkin that due to the weather broke apart and I'm going to use that as the head of the Scarecrow try to decide which have to use so if I use this half this is flatter I'm going to jot down with a pencil with the face but the kind of face that I like I want it to be very subtle but creepy I'm just trying to keep this equal on both sides not perfect but kinda equal [Music] [Music] [Music] that's looking a little bit like Halloween 1978 which is a very organic look I'm using this cut-off wheel and I'm going to make the cuts in different places just kind of random kind of where the corners are so it looks like it's just rotting or something else we'll see how that turns out [Music] well I think less is more so that is the look that I was going for a little bit rotten and we're going to paint this so it's not going to look just like that the next step I'm going to do is I'm going to put some black mesh in the back so that it looks nice and dark inside I'm going to take some creepy cloth and just fold it twice lay it here and then kind of like soak it with uh liquid latex and then we're going to stick it in the back and let it cure [Music] I want a pumpkin to kind of look down so I'm going to glue a piece of PVC in here to set up that angle like that on the inside so that I can slide this onto the body foreign thing to be glued so I'm going to use the Dremel tool and just uh cut a little bit of this out I'm not going all the way through but just so that this has a place to sit and the glue uh to set [Music] liquid latex has dried up it looks good it's nice and translucent so this will go inside of this we're going to paint both sides uh I'm going to do that outside so let's go and paint that I'm going to spray it and then wipe it off with this so it gets just a little dingy right and I want all this flesh to look rotten so I'm going to spray all this black [Music] foreign [Music] thank you it looks cool huh I like it we're gonna make it even more grungy but that is kind of like the base it has some of the orange showing through so before I seal it I need to do some uh preliminary work so this is a lamp kit from Amazon nothing too fancy has nothing for a light bulb a switch and a plug so I have to like fish that through here somehow to come out and then attach inside of the pumpkin let's see how we do that it's not just gonna slide through so let me try something about a piece of wire see if this works but I put it backwards let's try this again plug comes down at the bottom foreign then I need the let's hit the fit the switch yep no problem this is one of those flame light bulbs it was a really cheap one from Walmart I think it was three dollars so I'm going to see if it fits I have to finagle this this thing that we made earlier that is translucent I'm going to glue it in front of the ice so that you cannot see the light bulb right so I'm going to trim these little pieces and then uh we can assemble everything it doesn't matter how much I measured and tried it's not going to fit that way so it's going to have to go like that right not perfect but better than no light so this was kind of like a placeholder but this will attach to a tube that comes up there so let's do that all right see that fits it comes from here with the cord that cord goes up comes out this way now I just need to put this here and pull it out but okay this is how the head attaches to the rest of the body I glued that there and then the neck comes through here this cable has a place back here to go in so let's assemble this a little extra there's nothing fancy here I'm just going to put a some sort of a zip tie to hold this in place and then this guy's done with the mesh inside will go right here all I'm going to do is glue it with a if I made epoxy so I won't bore you with that all right let's do this here carefully that is perfect I'm going to go find some sort of elastic to hold it like that until the glue cures this should be dried now there you go so now it's kind of loose right so I'm going to glue it with some sort of epoxy here when we decide the final position so now we can start corpsing this right we got the cable here we'll do that later I'll show you what it looks like now the best discoveries are by mistake so I'm going to show you something really cool if you take uh something like this it can be like like a pick like this make some random lines I wonder if a knife works too but uh try this one with a knife and then you put the heat gun to it foreign it starts I don't know if you can see it but let's see starts getting some striations almost like uh you know a little more organic so I might do that I'm going to heat it and scrape it like this one right here that is looking awesome it's getting a little texture almost like a like a wood grain but uh or maybe like a Vine right so I'm going to do that all around and then we can start uh now these are the leftovers from cutting the ribs I save them all because I'm going to turn these into Vines I'm going to start gluing them randomly all over this thing I'm also going to glue some creepy cloth on it uh and at the end is when we paint it and I might even use a liquid latex just to give it more texture and stuff hanging so then we can bring it over here but the idea is that the vines have grown all around this all right so that's one and I have several here and I'm gonna go and cut some more out of another noodle that I have over there and I'm going to do this all over now as you can see those are kind of square so very gently because this will go melted right away we're going to round them up just a touch that's all it takes to make it look nice and creepy and if it melts that looks so weird it's even better because it's like a happy little accident right I'm wrapping some of these Vines around it pipe and then hitting it up with the heat gun and they get a little bit curly like this one so let's see how that looks super easy don't burn it just [Applause] perfect so now we can hang this all over the place as well so let's keep at it I'm going to start adding some of this uh creepy cloth just randomly in different places I'm not just going to cover it all the way just a little piece here there so that there's little bits and pieces hanging and I'm just going to glue it no mystery there and I'm going to mix it all over and then we go to the next step I got these at the dollar store and uh I'm not sure if they're gonna work but we're gonna try I'm gonna have to spray them with some gray or black paint just to make them a little bit grungier but I like the Fall colors of it it's going to blend with all the other materials so let's weave this in between I've added a piece of PVC which I will show you in a second and I gathered actually I had my son go and gather a bunch of branches and we are going to attach some pieces here which I will show you as you can see there's a PVC pipe that I put through here it's a little too long but we'll cut the excess off so I'm going to hide it in here I'm going to cover this and cut it up melt it to make it more organic but I'm going to take a this piece of wood glue it in there drill a hole here and that will become this broken arm now the ends were pretty Square so I had to figure out a way to make it look like wood and I think I figured it out let me show you so we'll do it on this side all right let me zoom in so you can see what I'm doing and it's like magic which is really cool so we're going to do the same as we did before and cut some lights to look like wood grain and then we're going to cut a bunch of slits here some straight ones like that some diagonal and maybe some The Edge like this let's go random right and your little more and then uh some of these fat pieces you can just uh cut into strips every eighth inch or so because they will split up and I'll show you so now we take our trusty hit gun and we're going to make this melt just enough to look like wood and you'll see it will start splitting looking like wood grain which is awesome so are these long ones you can just cut all the way through like that and like that and then give it a little more and it just looks like splintered wood so I think there's an awesome technique I'm sure somebody already invented it but I ran into it by mistake [Applause] since it rounds up the the foam it looks like wood that has been worn out by the weather right so it's kind of sharp but it's kind of rounded kind of like driftwood I'm going to start painting and you can do this with a brush I'm going to be sorry I'm going to be using a brush eventually for some of the details but for the sake of efficiency I'm using either the 10 dollar Harbor Freight airbrush or this 13 Harbor Freight sprayer these both require a compressor okay the formula that I'm using is a very well known formula in mask making which is a third of a paint a third of water which is distilled water and a third of liquid latex I'm gonna use this gun and then I'm going to make the Woody Parts Brown I'm also hitting the leaves with a little bit of spray paint just to darken them because they're just too bright they don't look right so I've been adding layers of that brown and black with the spray paint and now I have a mixture of black latex paint and water half and half just to stain it all over and it'll take some of the shine away and it will soak into all the creepy cloth and it'll stick kind of like paper mache that's what we did with that guy now this is the coolest tool there's a link below you don't need a compressor this pushes the air you put your paint here and it blows out and then all you have to do is clean this part and you're good to go you can cover huge areas real quickly so those big props not a problem for the frame where I'm going to hang the Scarecrow I'm using some scrap wood this is a one by two and uh I want it to be not too tall but maybe like here all right so this is ready two screws to there that you cannot see I'm going to stain this with the black paint and also I added some branches here on the right I mean on the left and on the right which they don't look the same colors I'm going to stain these as well [Applause] I absolutely love this tool that was 10 seconds the other thing I made for this guy out of the scrap foam is a stem right so I'm going to uh glue it there and I'm going to hit it with the with the heat gun to make it look a little bit more like a like a woody stem and then somehow we'll we'll blend it right here and it'll look really cool you'll see and the last thing we're going to go mount it on the frame then I'll show you the surprise that I have for you guys and after that we'll turn everything on and you see what the final product looks like and what my entry would have been to the pull noodle challenge to make the stem I put a piece off wire right here and on to that I'm going to slide the piece of foam and I should glue for like ever so I'm going to hold it there and the next thing I'm going to do is just curl it the way that I want with the heat gun to give it a little bit of texture all right the next thing I'm going to do is put a few tendrils coming out of the stem so I'm going to mount this guy to the frame but also if you can see I added a PVC pipe that I'm going to go right through the wood to the back side and then it's going to come down and we're going to put fog coming through it now I thought of this after assembling it so obviously I don't have any holes out of this tube so I'm gonna have to figure out a way to drill the holes we mounted the Scarecrow right here and right here and then here comes the pipe out the back and down where we're going to attach the fog machine the Scarecrow is all plumped up let's do some testing on the fog and let's do the dry brushing and we're done usually you dry brush a lighter color which will be the white WC by the way to be Pure White I want it to be more like a gray so I'm adding a little bit of the green that we sprayed earlier mixed with the black that's a nice dirty Grace so let's get everything off that brush there you go now let's go dry brush I'm going to start here on the ribs so you can see what I mean and I'm going across the grain right so grain is going that way I'm going up and down so that the paint doesn't go in the cracks so this will bring all the Grain and all the detail that we put into this thing and you can do it on the on the fabric so it looks worn out and bleached if you want you can do it on the leaves and that way it's not just a black scarecrow which makes it harder to see that three-dimensionality of it I'm gonna walk you through the details and then we'll turn her on and see what she looks like with fog and lights [Music] if you love that you can support monster tutorials we have new merch [Applause] that makes you officially staff of the prop mob [Music] and that's how you make a scarecrow with a pool noodle body and a pumpkin [Music] I think it turned out really cool so if you want to see more of this make sure to hit that subscribe button I put tutorials all year round and not just Halloween and uh yeah I'll see you on the next one see ya
