whole world holy god holy mighty one holy immortal one have a mercy on us [Music] beautiful beautiful chaplet of mercy there and have mercy on us and on the whole world and as apostles of mercy we pray not only for ourselves but we're praying for the entire world every man woman and child in the world and as apostles of mercy i mentioned earlier the russian ukraine situation that we're praying for both sides we're praying for all the people involved we're praying for the diplomatic corps that are trying to find the solution and they're smart people and we ask the holy spirit to inspire them with a very peaceful solution and we ask lord jesus that that no more debts that peace will come very quickly before families lose loved ones fathers sons daughters mothers so we really we're praying in earnest we're praying with focus and we're praying with belief for this and just to say that this year the team of our conference is eucharist jesus real presence body blood soul and divinity and i shared last year been in hospital and at a low web that when i called out to jesus floodlights came on and it showed me this scene here if jesus presented in the monstrance in the blessed sacrament and round the altar like this full of priests with their hands extended some were living some were dead some had died and somebody some of the priests that i know had passed on they'd obviously come back to pray but what i learned out of that experience was and many people ask me well a year two years on what's what have you learned out of that and what i learned out of that was how pleasing it is to jesus when people come to a dorm in adoration that really pleases the heart of jesus and i would encourage everybody to come in your visit your local church if you haven't got adoration encourage your local priest to start it because jesus loves people who come it's an extension of the mass holy mass of course is the greatest prayer adoration is an extension of that and i'd say to you that the other thing i learned from my experience was that i said the people who please jesus most are people who come to him in adoration and really believe in his body blood soul and divinity who believe that he's really present here in the blessed sacrament in the monstrance on the altar and what hurts him most of all are people who don't believe in the real presence who don't believe that this is jesus here present body blood soul and divinity this is jesus and that's the message that we're sending out to the entire country and to the entire world this is jesus body blood soul and divinity and i'd say to you that i'd encourage people to come in adoration and as a country we are used to i i my parents come from leish county long for them when i was a young boy that neighbors would come in at night to the to my grandmother's house and they'd say the rosary and then they'd have a cup of tea and they'd tell a few years and that was fantastic so we have a tradition in ireland of meeting together in people's houses in neighbors houses to pray and i'd encourage people to do that in these times to come together to pray pray the rosary pray the chaplet and a good friend of mine father michael hurley he extended that concept that bit further and people now meet they pray the rosary or the chaplets sometimes both but they also share the following sunday's gospel and discuss it between themselves what it means to to them as lay people what is what the gospel is saying to them and i would encourage all our apostles around the country to do the same and indeed around the world because when we come to pray one coal on its own is a coal on its own when coals come together we have a fire with the fire of the holy spirit the fire of divine love and we're praying this conference now in god's divine will that's all we all want to do is to pray in his divine will so we'll come back to this notion of praying and father michael's movement is the cell community you can see it on the internet but just that idea of coming together as small groups to pray is so important so pauline will you lead us in another hymn worthy is the [Music] lamb who was slain holy holy is he [Music] sing a new song to him who sits on heaven's mercy seat worthy is the lamb who was slain holy holy is he [Music] sing a new song to him who sits on heaven's mercy seat prayer of the church and uh thanks to claire as well for for leading the prayer and thanks to pauline for the music and christopher so now we move into our next part of the program and uh claire is going to introduce father hayden williams who's joining us all the way from malta so father hayden is a is a capuchin priest that he's gifted in many languages and he has his own mercy channel called rahmeen rahmeen is the hebrew word meaning the loving mercy is a feminine concept the loving mantle of mercy the mother of mercy wrapping their mantle around the world and we certainly need that mantle of mercy around the world now at this very time and father hayden has dedicated his life to preaching a very gifted singer and preacher and he holds the unique accolade of the only priest in the history of the intercession of priests to be asked back two years in a row and that's from his fellow priests is a great tribute and no greater tribute could they give him so he hails from malta great lovely singer and guitar player and very talented communicators so i'll hand you over to father hayden williams [Music] peace be with you dear brothers and sisters and the lord who are following the divine mercy conference which this time once again it's being held online due to the pandemic we look forward at what the time will come again where we can meet together at the ideas to praise the lord to announce his word to open our hearts completely to his divine mercy i am father hayden i come from the island of malta and i'm a franciscan capuchin friar i would like to invite you to open your hearts right from the very start for whatever the lord will be doing during this conference with the team that you're going to speak about is about the eucharist and in my own talk i will be sharing with you about eucharistic healing seen from the perspective of praise but before i share these reflections with you i invite you that you open your heart for the gift of the holy spirit we'll pray for his anointing for his power and strength upon the word that we'll be hearing and upon the heart of each and every one of us listening so that we can open our hearts for whatever the lord wants to do in us and through us i would like to invoke the presence of the holy spirit upon you through a prayer that i prayed for you together with the whole congregation of malta in our eucharistic meetings that we hold every month so open your hearts ask the lord to give you once again anoint you once again with the gift of the holy spirit [Music] there's nothing what more i can ever come close nothing can compare you are living hope your present god your presence i've tasted unseen of the sweetest of loves [Music] when my heart becomes free and my shame is on your presence lord your heal us spirit of god come and inflame us with the love and the passion for jesus we welcome you holy spirit [Music] [Music] [Music] be [Music] your glory god is [Music] lord [Music] your presence [Music] the eucharist dear brothers and sisters is the prayer of the christian is the prayer of the church and if we had to go deep in the eucharist there are many facets so that we can't really understand the depths of the liturgy when we celebrate the mass i would like to focus on one aspect which lies at the heart of the eucharist which is the aspect of thanksgiving i would like you to understand that the lord in the old testament has invited his people to worship him but he also taught them how to worship as a matter of fact praise and thanksgiving in the whole bible can be seen that it has the developed in three particular moments it was foreshadowed in the old testament because whatever there is in the old testament is the foreshadowing of something that has to do with christ in the new testament so even worship praise and adoration is foreshadowed in the old testament then it took place in its real depths how really god wanted it in the christ event and then from that we go to the liturgy it became a sacrament how we live it in the church so there is the foreshadowing of praise and thanksgiving there is the christ event of praise and thanksgiving and then there is the liturgy in the church of praise and thanksgiving in the old testament when god instructed the jews how to worship him he gave them a particular sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving known as remember it which means both praise and thanksgiving now the jews the way god taught them how to worship him how to praise him when they offered this product it had two components one of it was a prayer of praise in fact we have the litanies in the liturgies which are also the psalms that the jews used to pray when they praised god but together with the prayer of thanksgiving they used to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving and the sacrifice of thanksgiving was made up of the lamb the bread and the wine so i'm explaining this very simply and beautifully so that we can get a glimpse and of the beauty of the eucharist so this is how the lord in the old testament prepared the people how to worship him when you go to the new testament what has been foreshadowed in the old now we can see it happening really in the new testament in the life of christ especially when jesus instituted the eucharist we're going to see that both components a prayer of praise and the sacrificial offering are united in the person of jesus christ for example if go to the gospel of luke luke when jesus institutes the eucharist explains this this way and he took bread and when he had given thanks the word thanks is christine in greek which means thanksgiving and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying this is my body which is given up for you do this in remembrance of me so here we have brothers and sisters what god foreshadowed in the old testament happens in the institution of the eucharist jesus give thanks and the sacrifice is himself the bread and the wine and the lamb of the old testament remember the three components it's made of the sacrifice of the todah the lamb the bread and wine are jesus christ himself at the moment of the institution of the eucharist he is the sacrificial lamb the bread and the wine are trans-substantiated we say as catholics in his body and blood so brothers and sisters the way god invites us how to praise him how to thank him is by offering jesus christ himself to the father by entering into the praise of jesus christ himself to the father and this is what happens every time we celebrate the christian the christian is nothing else but dimas we can call it the christian and to cherish the beauty of this as the catholic church explains it in its own catechism i would like to read some paragraphs from the characterism of the catholic church just for you to get the glimpse that this thanksgiving is at the heart of our eucharistic celebration the catechism of the catholic church the eucharist is the heart and the summit of the church for in it christ associates his church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to the father by his sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his body which is the church so here the question tells us that jesus associates us into his own sacrifice of praise in another paragraph the catechism says the sacrifice of praise is possible only through christ he unites the faithful to his person to his praise to his intercession so that the sacrifice of praise to the father is over through christ and with him to be accepted in him you know this is really the heart of the second part of the mass i would like to go through the second pass of the mass of the sacred liturgy and to show you that the sacrifice of praise this christian todah as it was foreshadowed in the old testament we live it every time we celebrate the eucharist so we said that the first part of this sacrifice of praise was a thanksgiving prayer now the eucharistic prayer which is the second part of the mosque as i'm insisting i would like you to understand its dynamism the priest starts by saying the lord be with you we say and with your spirit then he's inviting us lift up your hearts to the lord we'll live them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god and we say it is right and just and the priest continues to say it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks holy father almighty and eternal god through jesus christ that is how the eucharistic prayer starts and how does it end it ends like this through him with him and in him and the unity of the holy spirit or glory and honor is yours almighty father and be or say amen so this is the eucharistic prayer which is completely embedded in a prayer of praise but together with this prayer of praise we also have the sacrificial offering during the moment of consecration through the power of the holy spirit and the priest and the priest's words the bread and wine become the body the blood the soul and divinity of jesus christ and those are offered to the father so here we have the whole christian tada the prayer of praise together with the sacrifice of praise now brothers and sisters this is the beauty of the mass because we enter into the very thanksgiving that jesus gave to the father it's not another one it's the very same one now please understand that this attitude that we how we celebrate the mass which is an attitude of thanksgiving should characterize our christian life especially our christian prayer christian prayer is a prayer of thanksgiving a prayer of praising god we are called to pray eucharistically not only during mass during the liturgy but also outside of mass outside of the liturgy in eucharistic adoration in our personal prayer time in our personal devotions the prayer of praise and thanksgiving should characterize the life of us catholics and i would like to take this very seriously because i if we don't enter into this attitude of praying in the sense of thanksgiving and praising god then we are not becoming a eucharist no the eucharist has very facets it's the sacrifice of christ of the cross it's giving ourselves completely to others in complete agape love these are the different facets but one of the major facets of the eucharist to enter into its spirituality is the prayer of praise and thanksgiving saint paul in his letter to the colossians says continue steadfastly in prayer being watchful in it with thanksgiving so paul is insisting that what should characterize our prayer life is the prayer of thanksgiving now what happens when we praise god both during mass and outside of us something very beautiful happens listen to what the church itself prays in its common preface number four for although we have no need of our praise yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift since our praises add nothing to your greatness but profit for us salvation through christ our lord in simple terms what does the church says the church says that as we praise you no liturgically speaking we call this the anabatic movement it means that we offer our praise to god it's the movement that goes up in the liturgy no lift up our hearts we lift our praises to god as there is this anabotic movement in return there is a catabatic movement which means that god sends his blessings upon us the katapatic means descending down anabatic raising up as our praise raises up to god his blessings fall upon us so this is amazing brothers and sisters and that's why i'm emphasizing that this attitude this eucharistic attitude is a source of healing in our life because any healing grace that we need to receive we can receive healing through various ways jesus has various channels of healing graces but one of the most beautiful channels of healing races is praising god even our in our difficult situations as we are going to see in fact we find this also in the life of christ that before a miracle takes place he praises god he praises the father for example before the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves what does mark says and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to him and said a blessing that is a prayer of thanksgiving before the resurrection of lazarus john 11 jesus lifted up his eyes and said father i thank you that you have heard me you know this episode reminds me so much of blessed solanus casey a capuchin saint brothers and sisters who used to tell the people thank god ahead of time like jesus does now he praises the father ahead of the miracle ahead of the resurrection of lazarus no jesus enters enters into a eucharistic attitude a prayer of thanks to the father before the miracle happens why because as we praise god then he blesses us jesus since this is a conference also dealing with divine mercy inspired by sin faustina i thought of seeing a little bit also this kind of spirituality in the life of saint paul's scene and it's amazing what jesus tells faustina remember it's approved by the church so we're on safe grounds quoting her private revelations jesus once told faustina know my child that for your sake i write blessings to this whole vicinity but you ought to thank me on their behalf as they do not thank me for the kindness i extend to them for the sake of your gratitude listen once again for the sake of your gratitude i will continue to bless them isn't that amazing for the sake of somebody praising god being grateful to god he continues to bless the whole vicinity of saint faustina in another time jesus told faulty told faustina be grateful for the smallest of my graces because your gratitude compels me to grant you new graces this is my blogging your gratitude compels me to grant you new praises and jesus is saying here that our gratitude compels him it's as if it takes away his freedom once we praise him his blessings come upon us and that's why mass is the greatest healing service we can have because as we enter into the very praise of christ to the father all the graces of salvation all the healings miracles freedom whatever the lord wants to live in us we receive through the power of the eucharist jesus once again told faustina your thanksgiving opens up new treasures of graces your thanksgiving opens up new treasures of graces once we understand the power of the mass in this way it's healing power but seen from the light of praising god and the blessings that come to us through praising god once we understand this i would like to emphasize not to look at mass as something magical as something that we use it then so that we receive graces outside of a deep relationship with christ in our lives you know we should really desire to praise god but that should not be the motivation to receive graces you know we cannot instrumentalize praise we know that the lord works that way but we should never instrumentalize the eucharist so that we receive healings and miracles we should praise god simply to acknowledge him and then he has to be open to whatever graces and blessings he wants to give us now what are the major healings we receive through this kind of eucharistic praise and thanksgiving through this eucharistic prayer to this eucharistic attitude in our life first we receive the grace of healing from our own insufficiency why the eucharistic prayer as i have quoted already says our thanksgiving is itself your gift we don't know how to praise god and god himself gives us a way how to praise and we are insufficient now i'm speaking about mature christian life here brothers and sisters you know saint paul once said that the spirit helps us in our weakness for we don't know what to pray for as we are but the spirit himself enters scenes for us what we can say we don't know how to praise god but the spirit can himself comes to praise god within us and how he does that through the eucharist where we the holy spirit joins us to the very praise of christ himself in fact the catechism says the holy spirit who thus awakens the memory of the church then inspires thanksgiving and praise he inspires thanksgiving and praising our prayer by joining us through christ's thanksgiving and praise the christian tada as i already explained during mass during the eucharist how much we miss when we don't go to mass brothers and sisters another healing that we receive is the healing from our sinful condition in what sense i would like you to understand what saint paul wrote to the letter to the romans he told them for although they knew god they did not honor him as god or give thanks to him according to paul sin in our lives is in gratitude sin is knowing that god exists but you don't worship him you don't praise him you don't thank him for what he is doing in fact saint faustina had this i would say into wishing but it's deeper it's divine knowledge the holy spirit instructing her a very simple nun but had great theology faustina says sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude jesus himself told faustina oh how indifferent our souls to so much goodness to so many proofs of love my heart rings only of in the ingratitude and forgetfulness of souls living in the word another time he told her in return for my blessings i get in gratitude in return to my love i get forgetfulness and indifference this is the state of sin where we know that god exists but we are not grateful to him and brothers and sisters you know actually we could go to mass and if we're not grateful we could have the sin hid in our hearts you know in the book of isaiah in chapter 61 where where we have the the messiah saying that the spirit of the lord has anointed me to preach the good news etc you know it some verse is down he says that the servant of god anointed by the spirit will give to the people of god the garment of praise you know praising god is one of the signs that shows you that you are saved is one of the size that shows us that we are living in the redemption that christ gave us another aspect another healing that we receive when we praise god is the healing from the sense of independence that we have from god sometimes it's as if we live our life independently from god when we praise him we realize that everything comes from him and that we depend on him paul once told the christian community in corinth what do you have that you did not receive people who don't praise god take everything for granted but those who praise god they know that whatever they have they have received him from god himself another aspect that is healed in our hearts when we praise god is the healing from our judgment of god you know saint paul invites us give thanks in all circumstances even the bad circumstances that we come through because when you praise god in your toughest times it's a sign that you believe that whatever happens in your life is god's providence that you don't live life by chance god is good no matter is happening to you and god is powerful even in your sickness in your pain and in your suffering god can draw good out of evil and this is the greatest manifestation of his power the greatest miracle that can happen it's not the elimination of evil but drawing good out of evil as it happened on the cross so when we praise god in the most difficult situations in our lives our heart are healed from the subtle temptation of that the devil brings to our hearts that god doesn't love us that the father doesn't love us that jesus is not with us and the holy spirit has abandoned us when we choose to pray to praise the lord even in our difficult situations in our pain and our suffering in our family situations in the situate difficult situations of the church and depending whatever we go through in a secularized society when we don't grumble and we praise the lord it means that our hearts are acknowledging his sovereignty his presence that he is leading everything everything is in his hands we're not called to understand how but we're called to trust him and we trust him by praising him another kind of healing that we receive only praise god is that our focus is healed because when we grumble well don't praise god what happens we focus on sickness we focus on the devil we focus on the bad things happening around us when we choose to praise god we get our focus of us of our pain of our situations of our difficulties and we focus on the lord we focus on jesus himself you know and once we focus on him our hearts are open to his presence to his feeling power to his healing grace now this kind of praise and thanksgiving it's not a feeling we don't praise god because we feel we have to praise him well there is that feeling good luck to us but spiritual life life and the spirit is based on a decision and not a feeling so this kind of phrase is when you choose to praise the lord even in moments where you don't feel like doing it brothers and sisters there is tremendous healing that comes to praising god in our lives and this is the heart of the eucharist when we pray the mass when we praise god outside of the mass in eucharistic adoration by praying the psalms in other moments of praise even the the rosary could be a prayer of praise in our lives as we praise him his blessings descend upon him upon us especially the blessings of salvation and the blessings of healing spiritual healing i emphasized a lot the healing of the heart and our relationship with god but it could happen also the healing from not only sin but healing in our physical bodies healing in our lives healing in the lives of others you know god's greatest miracles are not sometimes an answer to our intercessory prayer but an answer to our prayers of praise and thanksgiving i would like you to spend the rest of this moment by actually putting into practice what i have been sharing with you i invite you to enter into a moment of adoration into a moment of praising god into a moment of worshiping him but as you're going to join me in this moment of prayer i insist that the position from where you adore the lord from when you praise him and thank him now is the position of your pain the position of your suffering praise him from your darkest moments because there you will experience his life coming in you now his healing grace coming in you now his healing power coming in you now as you fix your eyes on him in gratitude and you turn your eyes from everything evil from the pain and the suffering it becomes true just get your hearts prepared and come into this deep moment of prayer of eucharistic adoration praise and worship i enter the thanksgiving precedes miracles so to praise and thank god in all the things in life even the things we don't understand and that's the road to real faith real happiness and to really seeing miracles happening in our own lives and the lives of others so thanks very much father hayden for that beautiful talk and now we're delighted this evening to have bishop alfonsus cul-nan in the studio with us and bishop conan is from he hails from one of my favorite places in ireland lahinch in county clare where we go on holidays every year for the last 30 years they have a great beach and seaside fabulous place he was trained as a primary school teacher and in 1994 he was ordained a priest for the limerick diocese he was ordained in minute college and then he went to study in rome to study for his doctorate in moral theology in 2001 and he was came back to ireland and he became a chaplain in limerick and then he became parish priests in radkil county limerick and then in 2015 he was elevated to bishop of waterford and lismore so i'm very pleased and delighted to welcome bishop fancy kulner in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen peace be with you and with your spirit thank you don for that introduction it's wonderful to be here for the divine mercy conference and to open it with the mass what better way to open it we could not find dear friend whoever you are wherever you are may you know that jesus is with you that jesus loves you that he comes to heal to bless to pour out his mercy so let us prepare ourselves to receive that mercy acknowledge our sins and in that way to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries and i'm offering this mass for your intentions and for the people of the ukraine i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] [Music] christian [Music] [Music] let us pray grant we pray almighty god that always pondering spiritual things we may carry them out both in word and deed that which is pleasing to you through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god for ever and ever amen now let us see what the lord has to say to us in the readings the first reading has a reading from the letter of saint james do not make complaints against one another brothers so as not to be brought to judgment yourselves the judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates for your example brothers in submitting with patience take the prophets who spoke in the name of the lord remember it as those who had endurance that we say are the blessed ones you have heard of the patience of job and understood the lord's purpose realizing that the lord is kind and compassionate above all my brothers do not swear by heaven or by earth or use any oaths at all if you mean yes you must say yes and if you mean no say no otherwise you make yourselves liable to judgment the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] the lord is the lord is love the lord is compassion the lord is love my soul give thanks to the lord all my being bless his holy name my soul give thanks to the lord and never forget all his blessings the lord is compassion the lord is love the lord is compassion the lord is love it is he who forgives all your guilt who heals every one of your ills who redeems your life from the grave who crowns you with love and compassion the lord is compassion the lord is love the lord is compassion the lord is love the lord is compassion and love slow to anger and rich and mercy his wrath will come to an end he will not be angry forever the lord is compassion the lord is love the lord is compassion the lord is love for its heavens are hype of the earth so strong is his love for those who fear him as far as east is from west so far does he remove our sins the lord is compassion the lord is love the lord is compassion the lord is love [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] jesus is the lord the lord of all my heart he's away he's the truth and alive [Music] he's the way [Music] a reading from the holy gospel according to mark glory to you oh lord what god has united man must not divide jesus came to the district of judea and the far side of the jordan and again crowds gathered around him and again he taught them as his custom was some pharisees approached him and asked is it against the law for a man to divorce his wife they were testing him he answered them what did moses command you moses allowed us they said to draw a writ of dismissal and so to divorce then jesus said to them it was because you were so unteachable that he wrote this commandment for you but from the beginning of creation god made them male and female this is why a man must leave father and mother and the two become one body they are no longer two therefore but one body so then what god has united man must not divide back in the house the disciples questioned him again about this and he said to them the man who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her and if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too this is the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ some years ago a priest by the name of father jim boston priest who was just seven years all day ordained got a phone call from a family member in san francisco the other end of the country it was a cousin of his who was dying he was told with a fatal disease and could father jim come as he was a relation and help him on his way to the next life so he got on a plane to san francisco went to the hospice when he got there there was a a nun standing at the door of the hospice father she said i'm delighted that you are here i i know that you're here to see someone else but could you do me a big favor there is a man here in room four he is close to death he is very angry he is carrying something i don't know what when i mention the word priest or if he sees a priest he starts to scream but i know father that this may be his last chance will you call in to see him father jim agreed went to the room when the man saw him he was angry jim father jim stood his ground stood by the bed the man still cursing him but the priest said i'm only here just to be with you not to judge you he said there was a slight change in the man's tone of voice i believe jim said that the lord loves you can you tell me what's in your heart you have no idea said the man of the bed who i am or what i've done what have you done father jim said i spent years in jail the man said i killed a whole family once tell me the story father jim said so the man explained that he was a trained driver and also on drugs early in his life he worked in the railway company in boston it was my job he said to change the points on the tracks and one day i made a big mistake and two trains collided head-on and a mother father and three children were killed and i killed them there was silence the priest obviously moved said to the man on the bed was that 1976 what do you want to know that for the man said and jim said well that was my mother and father and i am their son was playing a football game at the local club that day so i didn't go with them he said you did not intentionally kill them you know you were on drugs you were high with the stuff i believe god can forgive you and so after many tears the man opened his heart and the priest heard his confession and leaving the room that day the priest realized that he had a chance to stand in for for jesus and to forgive sins he then went to his cousin and stayed sometime there doing for him what he could but of course on his way out he met the the nun again she was waiting and she explained on the way out to the door that she had prayed the divine mercy chaplet many times a day for the man in room four the power of god's mercy is mighty and the nun that day was certainly an instrument of god's mercy as was father jim it's a story that always moves me every time i hear it and it has a message for all of us in every age especially now i suppose as we behold on our tvs tv screens images of war it's extraordinary that they're on our screens as unfolding a human catastrophe pride greed there right in front of us we are in great need of mercy do we turn to whom shall we go if i try to put myself in the place of father jim and that story what would i have done what would you have done where did he get the grace to forgive the person responsible for wiping out his parents and three siblings where did this tremendous grace come from in a few weeks time the priest or the deacon at the easter vigil will addressing god the father will say to ransom a slave you gave away your son horus saint john puts it for god so loved the world that he gave his only son so that all those who believe in him and not perish but have eternal life we all of us are in need of god's mercy because we are sinners and it is because we are sinners that we need a savior and i know that myself i know i'm a sinner i know i'm always in need of mercy of healing and this is true for everyone in the context of marriage which jesus speaks about in the gospel today surely that same compassion is needed mercy so that the relationship can be healed and strengthened and compassion is born when i realize that i am imperfect made of the same stuff as anyone else and the more i know myself the more i realize that i am in need of mercy and the more compassionate i become if i can just overcome my pride and pour out what is in my heart so that the light and the mercy and the love and the healing of jesus can come in but did you notice in the story the role of persistent prayer i wonder would father jim's miracle have happened had she that good holy sister not prayed constantly the divine mercy chaplet and i'm sure many other prayers and i like to think that as he was in with that man in room four she was there in the chapel begging our lord to melt that dark and frozen heart so that a of light and heat would allow god to act mercy is a powerful thing it heals it changes hearts it overcomes all things friends i may be tempted i may be tempted to turn to a russian neighbor perhaps and there are many around i may be tempted to turn in anger or hatred or a wife or husband may be tempted to betray or anger or resentment i may be tempted to put myself first out of selfishness or pride surely all we can do is to throw ourselves at the mercy of god and to open up to allow him to change hearts to change our hearts to warm the frozen to melt the chill to bring the light of his mercy in and this we can do if we pray and pray not just a few prayers but to pray many prayers in a constant conversation between my heart and the heart of god so that prayer is not just some small compartment of my life but informs everything i do it's not only something i do in a church building but it's a conversation which is real between me and someone who loves me to distraction whose mercy is never ending talking to him talking to him who made all things who knows me who loves me and whose mercy will overcome with his joy everything if the good lord's mercy can break into a heart which has been carrying that burden for all those years having committed that dreadful deed surely he can break into the heart of anyone if we just turn to him and may the lord also use us just as he used father jim and that good sister to be agents of his mercy so that not only in healing us will the lord act but through us will spread his mercy to all so lord make us good instruments of your mercy as you heal us and bless us and may we bring that mercy to all we meet amen so let us open our hearts and pray in our prayers of the faithful so the answer to each prayer is have mercy on us and on the whole world have mercy on us and on the whole world for the church may the lord guide and protect our holy father pope francis our cardinals archbishop farrell and all bishops priests deacons religious and all the faithful may the lord strengthen us all and give us courage in times of trial in your goodness lord have mercy on us on the whole world we seek the intercession of mary immaculate mother of divine mercy and our lady queen of peace for the entire world especially for the ukraine we place all families in mother mary's loving care especially those undergoing trials through her intercession may we come to jesus with confidence and say jesus i trust in you in your goodness lord have mercy on us and on the whole world for vocations to the priesthood and religious life we ask the lord of the harvest to send laborers to his vineyard through devotion to his mercy may many people respond to god's call to offer their lives in the service of others in your goodness lord have mercy on us and on the whole world for the protection of the unborn may the lord bless and guide all those who work for the protection of the unborn and the support of those with difficult pregnancies may we always cherish treasure and protect the gift of human life from the moment of conception to natural death and we pray for healing for all those affected by abortion in your goodness lord have mercy on us and on the whole world for all who are sick the terminally ill and those caught up in addictions we pray for all victims of abuse may the lord grant them courage in their suffering a deep trust in his mercy and touch them with his healing love in your goodness lord have mercy on us and on the whole world for those who have died we pray for god's mercy on all who've died especially members of our own family and friends and all our apostles who died since our last conference and every previous one may they come to the fullness of joy in the heavenly kingdom in your goodness have mercy on us lord and on the whole world and we add to those prayers your prayers wherever you are let us not forget those who may have no one to pray for them heavenly father may these prayers which we have prayed spoken and unspoken rise before you may your blessing descend upon us so that now and always your grace will help and save us through christ our lord [Music] take me as i am [Music] i can [Music] take me deeper into you [Music] make my flesh life melt always [Music] make me like a precious storm crystal clear and finally [Music] love of jesus shining through [Music] giving glory back to you pray sisters and brothers that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father is at your hands for the praise and glory of his name [Music] as we celebrate your mysteries oh lord with the observance that is your jew we humbly ask you that what we offer to the honor of your majesty may profit us for salvation through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for just as through your beloved son you created the human race so also through him with great goodness you formed it in you and so it is right that all your creatures serve you and that all you're redeemed praise you and that your saints with one heart bless you therefore we too with all the angels and saints in joyful exclamation call out in your praise holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory [Music] [Music] [Music] is [Music] is he who comes in the name of the lord [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] you are indeed holy and to be glorified oh god who love the human race and to always walk with us on the journey of life blessed indeed is your son present in our midst when we are gathered by his love and when as once for the disciples so now for us he opens the scriptures and breaks the bread therefore father most merciful we ask that you send forth your holy spirit to sanctify these gifts of bread and wine that they may become for us the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ on the day before he was to suffer on the night of the last supper he took bread and said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and each of us for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice gave you thanks and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save the savior of the world save our savior cross and resurrection you have set us free [Music] [Music] therefore holy father as we celebrate the memorial of christ your son our savior whom you led through his passion and death on the cross to the glory of the resurrection and whom you have seated at your right hand we proclaim the work of your love until he comes again and we offer you the bread of life and the chalice of blessing look with favor on the oblation of your church in which we show forth the paschal sacrifice of christ that has been handed on to us and grant that by the power of the spirit of your love we may be counted now and until the day of eternity among the members of your son in whose body and blood we have communion and so having called us to your table lord confirm us in unity so that together with francis our pope dermot our bishop with all the bishops priests and deacons and your entire people as we walk your ways with faith and hope we may strive to bring joy and trust into the world remember our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the peace of your christ and all the dead whose faith you alone have known admit them to rejoice in the light of your face and in the resurrection give them the fullness of life grant also to us when our earthly pilgrimage is done that we may come to an eternal dwelling place and live with you forever there in communion with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the apostles and martyrs and with all the saints we shall praise and exalt you through jesus christ your son through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and [Music] as forever sing our men so shall it be forever [Music] at the savior's command formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever amen lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i
