[Music] i might upset some people but i don't know how anyone can like dewalt more than milwaukee they look great and no we're not sponsored by them we just bought some tools but they look great and they work amazing and that yellow dewalt just is not very attractive and when you when you run one of their their uh drills or whatever you can just smell that electric you know motor burning out like the instant you use i've never used one sorry dewalt people i'm not a fan so actually the deal with this milwaukee stuff when you spend thousands of dollars at your local seed and chemical business at the end of the year you get like free points free and so we ordered some stuff and these were some of the options things and stuff things and stuff this is a portable air compressor which i didn't even know milwaukee made that and then our sawzall is getting bad over there we've had it for probably five years and we use it a lot and so we're so we bought another one that looks pretty sweet this is gonna be handy when we've got a soft tire out in the field might take a while but it's better nothing and he's got a dewalt he said he loves it the wall so i pulled into the yard this morning i was doing some christmas shopping dad came home with some different piece of equipment now this is borrowed from a neighbor correct and it's a ditcher and it's got this big spinning thing that just chucks dirt that way water can drain we're gonna start setting it up and hopefully figure it out it's an eagle ditcher eagle butcher it reads the elevation of the ground you read it and then it tells you up or down to make it so the water will run so dad use this two years ago i think two or three and i was still in college so i didn't help with that so i don't know if i'm gonna be any help today but let's see what happens just put both these globes on we gotta calibrate it basically you hit okay and then you turn around and then hit okay again that way i don't know just to calibrate it i did go to school for some of that stuff so maybe i should know more but but i don't and that's just how it is also new sunny farmhands are out check them out links below sunny farms farm focused if you're interested in that it's also blistering cold it's only like 33 degrees but it's pretty windy so we're using a different display than we did a couple years ago and so we got to do some stuff on the computer and dad and i will probably be barking at each other by the end of the day so uh stay tuned i don't know if we'll get to ditching today maybe tomorrow can't be easy i think we got it may or may not work out there which would be more frustrating because then we got to drive back with our tail between our legs but dad's headed down to the field it's just on the other side of that section so it's about a mile away i'm gonna meet him over there with the side by side and we'll see if we'll see if it works so i am not very positive today people i remember the last time dad used this he was having trouble with it plugging it seemed like especially when we got into stuff where there was a bunch of weeds growing in there they really plugged this up so dad spent a lot of time digging it out with a little spade and then he'd go a few feet and he was having a lot of trouble i know the ditch that we're cleaning out today has quite a bit of growth in there things are pretty dry it was also really muddy when dad was doing it last time but things are dry now so hopefully that helps us out my main concern is that it just won't work at all we're gonna set some sort of line and figure out the grade and then it kind of does it for us i think i don't know don't ask me i don't know what the heck i'm doing this is the one where we had to basically split the field into two halves because there's this big ditch and right here there's some really big ruts from me pulling the four-wheel drive and the tillage machine through there trying to get to this side we're hoping by cleaning this out it'll help that water run our neighbor to the east is actually working on drain tiling his part and we talked to him a little bit about bringing drain tile into here and it'll help both of us out so hopefully we can get this thing drain tiled the problem is that's the other neighbor to the west water pools in his and it comes from a few miles away and so there's just a lot of water coming through here which is why we're ditching it we bought this piece of land about five years ago and the first couple years we didn't even know there was a water issue because it was kind of some more normal precipitation years but the last couple years have been wetter than usual and so the middle with this big drainage ditch just didn't work very good so he's gonna back up to the fence he's gonna hit set a i think and then it'll kind of figure out the depth there and then we'll drive along it go to the end hit set b i think and then it'll make the grade and it'll tell us what we need to do are you confident 12 foot 10. so now we're driving through the bottom of the ditch and it's just kind of taking measurements and elevation yeah and then we're going to get to those big uh those tire tracks that we're gonna have to drive perpendicular to that's gonna get bumpy so you always start at the top and you do your a b line and end up at the bottom but then once we get that pushed in we can go both directions okay all right we're locked in here we go we're doing it pluggage luggage [Music] so [Music] so so nice thing about this is level off when you're done yeah oh i suppose we don't want to chuck all that stuff right at the side by side though man it's chucking it [Music] [Music] so we got the first layer off which is kind of the hardest stuff there's those weeds in there and they get wrapped around that cutting edge here looks pretty nice i know during the summer there was a big pool this ditch should open it up we're kind of in the pool right now especially right in here is where the high point was corner specifically so basically right along there and right along there it's kind of higher now it should flow quite a bit better of course the water is going on our neighbor to the east and it's coming from our neighbor to the west the thing about water is you want to get it flowing get it flowing faster neighbor to the east they also ditched and so the faster we can get it off ours the faster he can get it off his really want to make it so it doesn't linger and like i said he's going to be drained tiling and we're hopefully going to tie into his drain tile and tile ours that way it can seep slowly into our tile before it gets to his ground but as a kind of a temporary fix we're doing a little ditching today [Music] so up close this is what we talk about the cutting edge all it is is a blade and so the weeds they're kind of getting on there and wrapping around and so that makes it so the blade just rides up above and it doesn't keep cutting and so that's why we got to keep cleaning stuff off every once in a while until we get the weeds out of the way but this is this works a lot better on dry ground and a little bit of moisture like they have i'm kind of surprised that we found this much moisture so we're already into december pretty crazy we're going to be calving here in february so it's just a few months away these girls start oh my gosh they're some of the fanciest angus out there so just like last year we're gonna start hitting them hard with the dakota gold pro pellets calming them down how does that work we bring them out the cattle see us coming they see the gator they know they're getting some of these tasty pellets and so then they kind of associate us with something they like these pellets and then while they're eating them i like to just pace back and forth hang out with them make them get comfortable because you know these girls are going to be in our herd for hopefully hopefully 10 years at least it's nice when they're calm and one thing we can see in the pastures is that when the mothers come its calf gets a good head start and it learns to be calm and get used to us right away as well you broke down yep so much for hanging out with the heifers a pin at one of the ends of a cylinder broke apparently raise it up son of a ditch some nice black dirt in there well we're gonna call it quits it's never a good day when something breaks on a piece of machinery that you borrow from a friend anyway i think that might have been a shorter video thanks for watching hope you enjoyed it we'll see you next time have a good one [Music] i just had to try it oh that's awesome
