[Music] good morning and welcome to Rose Red Homestead this is our Discovery day and um as you can see all the tents set up behind us we are in downtown St George for the city market and it is a sort of a combination of farmers market there's live entertainment there's um well I'm looking at some of the vendors here there's corn dogs there's food there's drink and so and it's it's just barely past 8:00 in the morning and it's already it's quarter till 9 okay it is uh already very hot so since I don't do heat very well we decided to get here early it's going to be 104 here uh later today so so we're going to check this out and see what we can find and we're going to take you along with us looks like live music setting up here we'll see what they're going to do so this is just all kinds of Market things [Laughter] jewelry oh here's a fresh produce let's see what they've got cherry season apricots wow $7 a pound for Cherries they look beautiful $7 a pound good heavens lots of doodah oh look even feathers oh yeah here's More Produce let's see what they've got melons apples here's cherries $5 a pound they are beautiful changeing short fresh squeeze lemonade looks like kale would be we won't be stopping there kale and we don't get along with kale Gourmet mushrooms look at those wowow mushrooms wow hi hi how fun aren't they so my gosh tell me what these are oh tell me your name my name is Dax hi Dax and do you grow these yourselves I do we grow them ourselves we're from Hurricane okay but we have a golden oyster mushroom and this is a blue oyster mushroom what do you do with them which one do you want you can do anything you want with them so say for example you use your regular button and crini mushrooms yeah these will just take the place of them not only will you get more health benefits but the taste is outstandingly better oh fantastic you know um you get a lot because it's a really neat mushroom a lot of these are like these blue oysters right here see how big these caps are I'm looking at big meaty you chop those up and you put them in a in a alfredo sauce oh my goodness I think we need to just try some of these Jim what what do you think yes maybe we need to let them know who we are oh we're Pam and Jim canant trell from Rose Red Homestead oh wonderful we're on YouTube when we have over 300,000 oh my goodness subscribers and we are doing a series on um local resources for great food oh wonderful well thank you for stopping by we appreciate that so if we're I mean I've only been a grocery store mushroom person sure so what do you think I should start with well a lot of it has to do with how you want to use it okay okay so that the Lion's m is such a big meaty mushroom people can use it as the main meat Source in their dish wow people cut it about an inch or a/ inch thick and you can make it a flat iron state wow season it Grill it up on your grill it's wonderful it shreds just like chicken or like pork I've seen people put barbecue sauce on it and make a p pork sandwich wow my goodness um these back here the really tall light brown ones these are poos these would go great in a stir fry any type of Asian dish that you that you you're willing to cook up would be wonderful in there it's got a really long stem a nice meaty cap goes a long way how long does it take for these to get to where you can bring them to Market so from the very starting to the market Harvest is about 4 to 6 weeks depending on the mushroom there are some mushrooms that take months to grow and you have some in the process oh wow or your shiak and your RI mushrooms will take anywhere from 4 to 6 months but uh some of these varieties are about 4 to6 wow okay well I think you've sold us so what what's good what should we take if I want to do something like what do you think a stir fry maybe that sounds like a good idea okay so so a stir fry I would recommend if you're going to use it if you're going to make the stir fry within the next week I'd go with a fresh mushroom okay if it's going to be a minute the dehydrated mushrooms have a really long shelf life and they reconstitute quite easily by soaking in some warm water oh okay okay so one of the things that we do is emergency preparedness and we are stocking up we have a where we call level one food storage which is an integration of your refrigerator pantry and freezer okay and so we're showing dishes where we can just go grab stuff off of our food storage shelf so maybe we great yeah I think so too tell me who you are my name's Brock and Brock and I'm Janie hi so are you all family we are we're brothers I belong to him and we're brothers so okay oh I could never tell that so do you grow these in like a greenhouse or a special shed or so we have a we have an inground bunker that we' converted into our grow operation it's great because you know we're 78 ft underground which means our temperature stays relatively consistent they've got to be between 68 to 72° the whole time so not only is it cool but it's all enclosed so we can keep the humidity relatively high they need to be up to 95% humidity wow in the in the Fring rooms that sounds like rain weather yeah so rain weather yeah exactly that's how mushrooms know it's time to come out of the ground or out of the wood wow so let's see what what is what is good whoa what is good for um thank you honey for um stir fry have some question so your yellows and your Blues which really good and the tallos we don't have we only have fresh if you're going the dry your goldens andami flavor on they're Dy so they're really good in Asian dishes if you're looking for a more mild taste you want to go with the take these I did the freshh just the other day with zucchini squash onions you are making my mouth water they're delicious they have a really great place okay so we'll take these so that's really I've always been really curious about [Music] korabi I'm going to think about this I might want to come back and take one home okay so here is a honey stand $23 a court wow popcorn cookies cookies let's see what these guys have cabbage for five [Music] bucks homemade jam looks like they've got some plant starts oh yeah there's some kabi that has been trimmed kale beets cabbage onions some carrots over there some apricots right [Music] here oh these apricots are beautiful and then to have it right next it's K and cucumbers green beans so she's one of our employees that followed us so like most of the employees followed us so that tells you something Kayla hello morning how are you good how are you I was looking at this beautiful produce and it was reminding me of a couple weeks ago when we were in your Warehouse so are the um pickle yeah so everything on the table is from our field we had just we have a few slicers in here but most of them are going to be your uh Pickers okay because I want to get about 8 lbs of pickles but maybe I just need to come down to the warehouse sometime and pick those up um we have them right now if you want them right now box are in how much are they uh 50 cents each I think I I don't know if I want to carry it around right now so how much is a basket of apricots uh $3 and one PB in one pound in basket okay I think maybe I'll take a basket of apricots just for eating okay okay all right and your carrots were so good I'm going to get another carrot as well I'm [Laughter] okay so this is our first pick a cucumber our I could for ready to leave but I would get them here I don't know how many we pick over there this morning CU I came over here okay so if you want local ones I get them here okay so and these are 50 cents a piece yeah and if you want 8 lb we can weigh out 8 lb for you we can just go ahead and carry with us honey 8 lb are you sure well I can take it back to the car or we could just come I'll just take it back to the car on to them and when you're ready to leave us going pick them up okay let's do that all right then yeah so these are fresh out of the ground this morning wow wow are you doing a batch of pickles today uh not today but I will be later in the week so Michaela is from fries fresh produce weh house where we were a couple of weeks ago on our uh videos okay that's perfect I'm going to I'll give you a little bit of a deal on those so you have the Cucumbers or I'll hold guys okay and then a carrot and an apricot yes okay so 1425 okay once again we get a really good price from fries fresh produce so we've got pickles we're going to try so Jim got it some lemonade and I picked up a pound of cherries and so we're just sitting in the shade at a picnic table having a little snack and a rest the musicians are tuning up we're right here by the live music well you guys can hear that we've got our classical band over here getting ready to uh getting tuned up that doesn't sound classical to me [Music] this has been really fun it has been and uh we came away with a pound of cherries and some dried mushrooms that I'm so excited to try and then some other things and tune in again on Wednesday and you'll see what we do with at least some of the stuff that we picked up while we were here so we're going to head home now and um get going on the rest of our day so thanks for being with us on this discovery and we will see you on Wednesday when we disclose what we're doing with what okay take care bye-bye [Music]
