"Disciplines Of A Dynamic Disciple" Sermon, Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr.

I want to talk today about the disciplines of a dynamic disciples say that their disciplines of a dynamic disciple look at your neighbors I wonder do you have the disciplines of a dynamic disciple ask wait for answer all right you can be seated it's taking you too long to answer the mission statement about churches developing dynamic disciples developing dynamic disciples to discipleship discipline and duplication that's what we want we want to be a church that has dynamic disciples not dynamic believers there's a difference between believers and disciples believers believe but they don't necessarily do the difference between the believer and the disciple is what you do a disciple does Jesus said the scripture teaches with clarity that we have to be doers of the word and not hearers only we got a lot of people who believe the devil believes say just say that the devil believes but he doesn't do it doesn't do we want to have doers we want people who put in practice who walk out who live their faith who are practicing their faith and I wanted to use the example of the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego in order to talk about this come on same and talk back at it brother talk back at me in this particular story Shadrach Meshach and Abednego are three men who are put in a situation that is incredible here's what they do has a matter of fact the King has created a golden image and that golden image is 90 feet high and nine feet wide is huge and he's made a decrees he's given a command that when the music plays everybody is to bow down and worship this golden image that the King has created the scripture says that when the music played matter of fact if you read verse number seven verse seven says so at that time when all the people heard the sound of the horn flute ARP and lyre in Symphony with all kinds of music all the people nations and languages fell down and worship the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up everybody bowed down I need to talk about this with you today because that's a part of what's happening in our culture we live in the midst of a community and a culture where everybody's doing stuff and we think it's okay just because everybody's doing everybody plays the lottery you can play the lottery everybody divorces their spouse moves on to the next one you divorce your spouse everybody does this everybody shacking you shacking come on look at your neighbor say don't do it just because everybody else is doing it I can tell right now I'm just gonna be a tough service right here that's gonna be tough right here they played the music and everybody everybody bowed down but these three Hebrew boys Shadrach Meshach and Abednego were the only three who did not bow down as a matter of fact their response to this situation troubled the King because everybody else had bowed down and so he beckons them to his to talk to him he caused them forth and when they come forth he challenges them that they have a responsibility to bow down as a matter of fact he said to them now you're gonna either bow down when the music is played and worship the image that I have created or you're gonna be cast into the fiery furnace I love the way these guys respond their lessons for you and how to learn about the way they respond which I'll allow me just a few moments to talk about the way they responded I'm hoping the child will listen and say Amen has I talked about the way they responded I know you may not like the way they responded but I love the way these guys responded it is an incredible response they responded in a incredible way because they had some character traits they had some disciplines in their life that caused them to respond in a positive way how did they respond here's number one they had in their life principles precepts disciplines that were powerful here's the first one they committed their life they were committed to living a life of uncompromising convictions let me rewind that and give it to you again they committed to living their lives they committed to uncompromising convictions now this is let me back up and say this for a moment this is what my goal is my goal in life is to develop dynamic disciples I'm trying my best to help people not just be churchgoers I don't want you to just walk in here with a Bible under your arm and a cross around your neck but you live in a raggedy life we want you to be doers and here is and-and-and and this is what I'm shooting at if this is my goal and and and and I want to talk about it through the sense of how these disciples how these three guys were guys who were walked like the disciples but they started off committing their life to uncompromising convictions now let's talk about what a conviction means a conviction is a principle which you purpose to follow whatever the cost that's what a conviction is I'm going to do this no matter what it costs now where Christians have today are not convictions we have preferences now what's the difference between the conviction and the preference a conviction you're gonna do whatever all the time doesn't matter what goes on what people say who's in the room when you have a conviction you'll do it all the time if you have a preference you will do it you will be a Christian as long it is it is convenient to be a Christian and that's the way some of y'all are several people on your role our convenience Christian preference Christians going and looking down the rosy view to figure out who the preference Christians are the preference Christians are the people the craft the preference Christians the preference support people who live by preference live their faith while is convened into salata y'all are like chameleons and all the comedian's it's a little lizard and that lizard changes colors based on where it says it has learned to blend in with its background we got a lot of people who learn how to blend in with what the backpack yeah yeah if you're around church folk you can blend right in you know you can you know how to talk the language of Christian people you know you can you know how to say I'm blessed highly faith you get that round you know how to you know how to sing the Christian song so and they see somebody break out in a Christian song you know that song but if we move you from the Christian environment to the worldly environment you can blend right in with the what the world is doing you can be right with them you won't stand out you won't stick out there won't be any difference about you nobody will be able to determine that there's something unique about you you blend in you can talk to talk of the world you can see in the music of the world you can jump on the dance floor and dance with the world you got it all down you are you're only a Christian when it's convenient to do so when you're around Christians then you sing then you remember the First Baptist Church of Glen Arden when you're around other Christians but God wants us to be people who don't have preferences our Christian standard but we have convictions and that we will operate and walk in Christian principles and concepts no matter what the circumstances no matter who we are around no matter what people may say about you look at your neighbor say he preaching better than you're saying amen tell him he's preaching better than you saying Amen now here's what the Supreme Court did the Supreme Court in a case where a particular person said they had convictions and those convictions were being challenged by the opponent the Supreme Court in a very profound way defined what makes a conviction three things number one a conviction must be seen so if you're a Christian and you say you're Christian they ought to be some evidence somewhere in your life it ought to be seen it ought to be visible if I what if I if I follow you around and you say you're a Christian you're a disciple of Jesus and I follow you around there ought to be some evidence other than on Sunday mornings that you are a disciple of Jesus oh I'm preaching better than y'all to say Amen number two it must be consistent it must be consistent that means if you are a Christian and you have convictions that conviction must be consistent it must be evident in your life every time you have an opportunity to put it in practice if your conviction if you have a conviction to be a tithe that you just don't tithe when when you had a money I'm sorry I got it I see we got some people here who don't have no convictions Amen preacher pastor it's got to be consistent it must be consistent in your life number three your conviction must not change it doesn't swing with the popularity what people say it doesn't float that doesn't go around it's consistently the same and what's great about these Hebrew boys is they have convictions and they had a conviction that they were not going to be willing to compromise or change you and I ought to have convictions in our life you and I ought to have things that we believe that we will not compromise and those convictions are to be driven by biblical precepts and concepts in other words we ought to have conviction of how we're going to live our life we are Christians we are sold out to the Lord Jesus he's the master of our life we love him we are sold out to him and what because we are his disciples we are putting them in place in our life and we're gonna walk in them regardless of what anybody else says what kind of conditions aren't you aren't you to have you ought to have some uncompromising convictions you ought to commit to some uncompromising conviction well let me just say what a few of them ought to be let me tell you what a few of mine are first of all I have a conviction that the Bible is the final authority for my life this calls the shots for my life right now this not Tony Robbins not Oprah Winfrey not who else y'all be listening to dr. Phil this right here calls the shots in my life this word right here if this says it doesn't matter what anybody else says I live my life by this but that's not how some of y'all love something I'll say I'm not there yet or you say the good Lord upstairs understands when you stop calling him the good lord I know you'd have done something bad this is the rule by which we will be judged these are our convictions are driven by this principle right here that's a conviction for me here's another my body belongs to God it is his temple your body autumn along to God not to some Joker that you're trying to get him to marry you if your body is not here Amen pastor IC is gonna be a tough sermon here your body belongs to God not to the drugs not to liquor not a cigarettes not to anything else not to some other person your body belongs to God it is his temple number three your money should be earned and managed by God's ways and principles your money should be earned and managed by God's ways and principles your money should be earned and managed by God's principles what does that mean that means that the lotto is not the answer to your financial dilemma Oh y'all gettin quieter and quieter I can tell right now that this is striking home with y'all because I know when the money get to a certain account to a certain level when it gets to the millions of dollars y'all start saying maybe the Lord wants to bless me and you going out there playing and putting your good money on the lotto can let me tell you something you gotta earn your money God want you to earn your money God wants you to work for your money not from the lotto leader lot taller I'm gonna see them had to start preaching on this a lot more the MGM is about to be built around the corner and I know I got to talk about it because I told you all the time I see the Saints sitting in a 70 levin in the lap towline I see him in the live towline and I know you remember the First Baptist Church because when y'all see me walking to the 7-eleven I see you just keeping your back toward me doing better which way I'm going whenever I go I see you just there you are standing back what's in the line everybody else looking forward you looking backwards I know you'll remember the First Baptist Church of you leave the light all alone stop taking trips up to I knew you have new werewolves who said somebody said if Downs I didn't know Calvin gave it to you thanks Helen praise the Lord pray for them y'all praise the Lord you got to earn your money to the right way your marriage here's another conversion your marriage ought to be a lifelong commitment to God say that your marriage there should be a conviction your marriage is a lifelong commitment reading marriage today they treat it like a car if it gets too many miles on it you trade it in get another start causing you trouble problem not working right had to spend a lot of money on it that's how people treat marriage when you got married I won there but you said til death do us part you say it for better for worse richer or poorer sickness and in health you would be committed and not til divorce to your part but till death do you part marriage is a commitment God speaks that marriage is a it's not a contract it's a covenant marriage of the covenant it ought to be a conviction the hands are true for them that is my wife and I've been married 34 years come August see if we make it to August 23rd it'll be we're gonna make it 34 years I hope we're still together not because we haven't had tension not because we have a head intense fellowship not because we haven't been angry upset pissed off we've had all of that we've had we've had many reasons but we're still together because divorce is not an option for us it's not an option it's a lifelong commitment I told her when she was trying to leave me one time she was packing up her clothes to leave me I said we are in this together for life so I'm gonna pack up my clothes I'm going with you wherever you go on eyeballed the trip ain't gonna leave me here with all these kids by myself you know lost your mind are we going together people gotta understand you can't keep going through marriage after marriage after marriage you can't keep jumping out of one marriage I don't want a relationship to another you got to learn to stick with some stuff fourth season of time marriage is a lifelong commitments have you been through three or four marriages and the problem is you too common element in each one of these marriages I know you want to say that everybody else is the issue every one of the three of all people you were married to is the issue every one of the three or four people that you be married to have problems but you are the common component nothing nothing else wrong I tell you what is wrong something wrong and let's just say for the sake of our discussion all of them are jacked up and messed up then the one thing that we know is wrong is your judgment come on talk to me with just a second you've got a judgment issue you got to work through marriage you got it in dirt you gotta hang tough you got to wrestle through it it's tough marriage is tough y'all y'all don't bought into this concept that the world is taught that you don't get married and just skip down the flowering rhodanese for the rest of your life and everything gonna be happy and you just go pee we're all to see because because and wonderful thing keyed up because because because because because because because because we hope to see no ask my high rose baby you skip for about three seconds and you hit something that stops you for a moment you gotta wrestle through troubles and trials and issues in it you might skip for a couple more music BAM something else go wrestle with you and tangle you in make you wanna you gotta work through it yeah you can't quit then you're just wait to your work do that then you go skip low anymore then BAM there's something else trying to pull you down try to bring drama your kids BAM well no you don't get where you're going but not without issues and not without challenges and not without stressing not without arguments you don't have to pray and you will have the fast and you would have to endure you can't keep quit I got to hurry up that's the conviction you gotta have conviction to raise your children according to God's ways I'm raising my kids I got catching my breath scuse me for a second Oh many what it used to be I can't just you gotta raise your kids not let your kids raise you you raise your kids have a conviction that you're a parent you know I tell my kids I'm not your friend I'm not trying to be your friend I'm your parent now we get along fine but that's not the goal the goal is not to get along my responsibility is to raise you to love the Lord and live your life in a certain way hold up don't clap yet' wait I finish then clap cause I want them to hear what I'm going to say my job is to raise you up teach you and train you to love God and live your life according to biblical principles so you can grow up and live life get you a job I got to raise you so you can get you a job and not come back home now go ahead and clap right a mrs. Amen praise the Lord that's right that's what my responsibility is that's a conviction of mine not trying to be your friend I might try to make you happy one of my kids I'm not gonna call Johnny by name but Johnny came to me one day and said soy-sauce parents let him do XYZ I said that might work for their house but that don't work here that's notthat now if you want to go down there lid down there with your family right there feel free I hope you move on down there that's fine but that's not how we do it here we've chosen this day to serve the Lord and pass for me in my house we will serve my son said to me one day he said I can't I want to do you want to do something I can miss church one Sunday oh yeah see what you don't understand is one Sunday becomes two Sundays to Sonny's become three Sundays three Sundays become folks on these you can't live here and be able to go to church and not go to church amen you will go to somebody's church on Sunday morning OC or Sunday night sometime on Sunday you gonna have to make it that's my responsibility parents you have a responsibility I don't you today I'll get this 17 18 they living in your house under your roof they need to abide by your rules you that's a conviction somebody look at your neighbor's that you gotta have convictions these guys have convictions I'm taking my time like I got all day it's 11 o'clock I'm out let me go to number two I got to hurry up I can't go through all I wanted to that's number one what did I say number one was what was number one did I give y'all number one did I tell y'all what number one was commit to uncompromising convictions his number to walk with unwavering confident walk with unwavering confidence here's what I want you to know verse 17 these fellows said to the king matter fact let me start over 16 when the King said to them you gonna have to serve God or else be cast sort of burning fiery furnace and who's the cop that's gonna deliver you in verse 16 and 17 years with Shadrach Meshach and Abednego say they said we have no need to answer you in this matter we don't have to discuss this we're going to be careful about it if that is the case our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and he will deliver us from your hand O king I like that these guys had confidence that have been trusted in God and obeyed God that God will eventually bring them out God will deliver them that's what you have to have you have to have a level of confidence in the God that we serve that if you trust him if you obey Him he has the capacity to bring you out now this is the problem because some of you don't believe that God has the capacity to do that and you need to have the ability these guys said how God is able to deliver you and here's what I like about their attitude they said I like this right here they said they he will deliver us from your hand okay y'all mr. great faces fresh out let me tell you what that mean he said one way or the other we're gonna get delivered either God is gonna deliver us to your fiery out through the fiery furnace or if he doesn't deliver us to the fiery furnace and we die we will still be delivered from you God somebody gotta say man y'all y'all miss that right there I like their attitude they said we will but we believe that God is gonna bring us out he's gonna eat you now to know that God we serve a God who has the capacity and the ability I don't care what you're facing or what you're going through if you trust him obey Him live by conditions he will step in the domain of your circumstance and He will bring deliverance to you you've got to know that you got to believe that you have to have an unwavering confidence that we serve a god to has the capacity and the power to step into your situation and bring you up here's what I know about God I don't know a lot about him but I know this about God that if you obey Him and commit to him he will step into your life and fight the battles for you I am persuaded I am convinced I like these fellows that they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that somehow God was going to do something they wasn't sure what perhaps they thought that God would changed the Kings mind or maybe they thought that the fire would go down before they got put in or maybe they believe that if they burned up that God would bring him back to life I don't know what they believe they just said we know that the God we serve will deliver us from your hand oh I felt a shot when I think about that when I look back over my life and the circumstances and the situations in my life when I held fast to principles why everybody else laughed at me and thought it was crazy for me to live the way I lived and do the things I do and trust it in the God that I trusted when they laughed at me and talked about me but to see God step up and deliver and bring an answer how oh I give God the praise for his power and his might is there anybody here has seen God step up when you help pass the truth and he worked it out on your behalf somebody hollered say he did it for me HiFi your neighbors say he did it for me high-five him on the other side say I got confidence that God is going to see me through no matter what the case may be I know he's gonna fix it for me he will bring me out I like that and he said he will deliver us from your hand O king but in a verse 18 he says but if not somebody say but if not just in case he doesn't just in the event he doesn't bring it to pants just in Divini doesn't let it be known to you O king that we do not serve your gods nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up let it be known to you this is what you got this what you got the lady see we've got to say let it be known to you I ain't sleeping with you no more that's what you got to say right there let it be known to you that just cause everybody else was playing the lotto I'm not playing the lotto come on say let it be known to you just cuz the rusty all our drinkin I ain't drinking just let it be known to you y'all can get high I'm not gettin high you gotta have some convictions let it be known to you I ain't going down that path I'm not compromising what I believe and I might suffer the consequences I might lose my job I might be talked about but it's okay I know God is gonna make away some house for me somebody say he's gonna make away some house for me that's what I like about these guys they were willing to accept they were willing to accept what they didn't want to happen and you gotta be willing to accept what you may not be wanting to happen you have to be you have to be willing to have that kind of courage and confidence and and and and and they said whatever the case is no matter what happened we're not bowing down I'm I'm trying to get some people let me tell you what I'm after I'm not after trying to keep the church full I'm trying to keep the church pure here's what I'm after I want I want to raise you up to be convicted to be convinced and convicted of living by convictions or being mad at me so much as you're in combat I don't want people to come to church who are comfortable in sin I don't want you to be comfortable living in sin I I want you to get uncomfortable eating about I want you to be mad and it's okay if you mad with me I'm not trying to be your friend I'm trying to be your pastor I'm trying to preach the non adulterated gospel to you I'm not trying to get y'all okay I don't want you to be entertained by me I want you to get mad at me I want you to get upset I know you don't want me to talk about Shaq and I know you I know you don't want me talking about homosexuality and lesbianism I know you don't want me to talk about the lotto I know there's a lot of stuff drinking you don't want me to talk about it but a charge I have to keep in a god that I must glorify and I'm preaching it to try to bring change in your life trying to bring a change try to bring a change finally I'm not after you liking me matter of fact I hope you get so mad that you don't come back but if you get that mad and go down the street and go to a church that you like better but get saved praise the Lord that's all we're out can I get a Amen right there from anybody that's what we're after people who have convictions let me close this because I can't leave the fellas in the fiery furnace because in fact the Kings threw them in the fiery furnace look at verse number 19 let me read this to Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach Meshach and Abednego he's spoken commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated and he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach Meshach and Abednego and cast him into the burning fiery furnace these three men were bound in their coats their trousers their turbans and their other garments and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace therefore because the kings the man was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach Meshach and Abednego yo y'all missed hold up listen this is a this is significant right here the soldiers who were told to put them in the fiery furnace got killed tell your neighbor don't mess with me but not mess with me you may not try to throw me someplace somebody better need to know that the people who try to hurt you they don't get hurt the people who try to destroy you they gonna get destroyed and these three men Shadrach Meshach and Abednego fell down bound in the midst of the burning fiery furnace then the King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished between verse 23 and 24 there's something that happens at the verse at verse 23 they fell down in the midst of the fire burning fire furnace but in verse 24 the king was astonished and he rose in haste and spoke saying to his counselors did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire they answered and said to the king true Oh King look look look come on it's a look he answered I see four men loose some of y'all gonna be thrown in the fire and you don't realize you'll get loose for what you've been put into loosed and walking in the midst of the fight wait a minute here they were walking in the fire they ain't supposed to be walking in the fire y'all mister grace face this out right there they're not supposed to be walking y'all need to understand it you're gonna go in the middle of something God's going to give you the ability to keep on living life you still going to work you still got your family you still doing what you're supposed to do you still are living you're walking and he said they are not hurt and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God somebody Ben look at your neighbors say God is with you every step of the way if y'all don't hear nothing else I say have this thing right here notice if you don't hear nothing else I say today know that God Jesus is walking with you he said no I'll be with you always even to the end of the world he's with you I know I'm I'm way over time I'm Way over time but I got ass like I can't end right there tell your neighbor we're going into overtime we're going into overtime verse 20 2016 never kinesia went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke saying Cheramie shaking the bendigo servants of the Most High God look how his conversation changes y'all got to get this to people who are ridiculing you and the God that you serve when they see God do a miracle in your life then we'll start talking about the God that you saw he said service of the Most High God come out come here then Shadrach Meshach and Abednego came from the midst of the fire and the st. wraps administrators governors and the keys counselors gathered together and they solved these men on whose bodies the fire had no power the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected and the smell of fire was not on them you ain't gonna look like what he bachata you ain't gonna look like what you've been through when you come out you ain't gonna look like you've been in a fire you ain't gonna smell like you've been in a fight hallelujah y'all excuse me I feel a shout deep down inside of me when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all he has done for me my soul cries oh thank God he delivered me save me heal me watch me hey hey his name is Jesus lily of the valley bright and morning star his name is Keith I don't know what I'm preaching to it I appreciate you today somebody need to go home and get out of the situation Church in have the courage to have convictions so I may need to change the situation to share half convictions God can't deliver you because you keep on compromising tell your neighbor don't compromise tell them on the other side don't compromise amen today's dynamic message from pastor Jenkins is one that has the power
