DID WE JUST BUY OUR DREAM HOME?! | Touring Mid Century Homes In The Northwest | VLOG | Home Tour

today's episode's going to be a little bit different than normal thrifting adventure and what's kind of fun about today's episode is i don't know how this is going to end because in a few hours i'm going to find out if our offer was accepted on our dream home which is so exciting but first you need a little bit of backstory so let's rewind [Music] do you guys remember a few months ago when i told you that my husband and i were getting a rental home so that we could take our time to find our forever home and not be in any rush and not have to worry about getting our hearts broken over and over again because it's a crazy market to buy in well [Music] it was i was on fire our house our dreams we were dancing on a wider record it seems [Music] it was about four months into the pandemic when jesse and i decided we wanted to move back to our hometown and be closer to family there were two main things on our list nature and family and they were equally important so when they were driving on the country back roads and we were just checking out properties trying to get an idea of what was available out there and we saw a house that was not on the market but it had all the potential in the world it needed a ton of work and i remember jesse saying like man if we had the money to put into that that could be our dream house well someone else had the same idea as us and they bought it back in november and they put the money into it and the timing is just insane we agree with shannon and brandon finally on a date we're gonna list our house and then this actual literal house that we said could be our dream house pops up for sale it felt like the universe was lying saying this is your home it's here for you it waited for you someone else already did all the work so you don't have to what's your first impression that's cool that love it yeah what about the the shape that's cool that that's cool so far it's checking somebody i would change this garage door okay to something a little cooler okay paint color's cool okay and i really like that you like me [Music] as soon as we walked into this house it looked just as amazing as the photos did online one of the things we love are original elements to the mid-century era including a built-in planter box the living room space was a really good size that had these huge windows that looked out into the backyard and as you came around the corner of the dining room area it opened up into a beautiful kitchen one of my favorite features of this kitchen is that they kept the original cabinets so many people when they were remodeling they tear out the original cabinets they would have knocked down this wall and open the entire space up and i think it's wonderful that whoever remodeled this kept all of these original touches including the original buffet and this beautiful amber glass partition wall this is a three level home so now we are headed into the downstairs area and this section here it looks like was converted from a double car garage into a single car garage so here's the original single car garage and then the other space they turned into a great secondary living space there's a really good size laundry room and then over here on the right is the one bedroom that is downstairs there are three bathrooms in this house one on each level and you can see right into the backyard there's the nature we were talking about this is the bathroom on the main floor and as you can see they did a great job picking all the finishes everything in here is completely updated and very current what's kind of interesting is that the bathroom here in the master bathroom looks like a very european bathroom to me where it is floor to ceiling tile and the shower is just right there in the center of the room with a tiny little sink some people might find that a little weird i found it a little bit charming and just off of the master is a beautiful large guest room one of my favorite features in this house are the cork floors it's really hard to tell if these were original or if they were added in but the cork floors run throughout the entire home and cork floors are classic mid-century to us the beautiful thing about this home is there's almost nothing that would need to be changed about it [Music] let's go check out the outdoor space so right here is another single car garage that has kind of been converted into a studio space already which would be wonderful because as you know i have lots of vintage and i need lots of storage space beautiful backyard with plenty of space to entertain there is an upstairs deck which comes right off of the master and a great little patio where we could have a fire pit and spend summer evenings with our family when we walked inside it looked like a time capsule they had the original cabinets with original hardware the fireplace went all the way up to the ceiling it had a built-in planter which jesse pointed out would eventually become a kitty litter box and it checked all of the boxes that we said we were looking for so once we toured the house we walked down into the living room and brandon looks at me and i think he could kind of tell i had an interesting look on my face and he was like laura tell me what you're thinking right now and i said this isn't our home nothing about this home is our home and it was so unbelievably strong because everything in that house was what jesse and i said we wanted but nothing about that house felt like us and we both felt it it was pretty unbelievable we were on the exact same page and then it was like all right we now know this time to pivot we want the classic mid-century modern elements but we just wanted it to feel like a home and that felt like a magazine and i don't want to live in a magazine it was just not the one for us and we were so happy that we got to learn that lesson because it really helped going to the second home now there's no way i can purchase a home without my sister's approval so of course she was going to come tag along with us and she wanted to make an entire day out of it so she picked another listing and sent it to us and said what about this house it's five minutes from my house not 25 minutes from my house and jesse and i looked at it and we were like okay there's potential i could see there possibly possibly being potential [Music] [Music] so [Music] uh it just felt so right it was like this calming place and i could see jesse and i spending the rest of our lives there and being really really happy sister we could make a little fort back here for the kids yes this could be so fun for the kids to play back here oh my gosh oh my gosh what are the ruins maybe we spent the first 20 minutes that we were there just in the backyard we didn't even go in the house and i think we all knew that today was gonna end up with us putting an offer in on this place after we finally wrapped up outside we checked out the garage there is a large two-car garage with an entire studio space above the garage it'll be the perfect space for me to sell my vintage out of and as if it couldn't get any better there is a huge rooftop terrace this is one of my biggest dreams in life is to have my little italy garden on a rooftop terrace overlooking this backyard overlooking these trees i can just see it all right now i am already completely in love with this place done over how am i gonna get this to be my home the house was built in 1962 and it is a three level house so on the main floor there is a bathroom there is a large kitchen with beautiful tongue and groove ceilings the kitchen needs updating and the stoves don't work but the house is being sold with an entire package deal of brand new stainless appliances and you can't beat this view out the kitchen window let's go check out the upstairs this is on the other side of the house from the shop that we were just in and if you look out this door this is the other entrance to the rooftop terrace and then there is a beautiful bedroom right here again with the tongue and groove ceilings we love post and beam construction with tongue and groove ceilings that was super high on our list and this place is checking all of those boxes there's another full bathroom just before you get to the loft space upstairs and this loft would be perfect to turn into an office for my husband it would sure be the office in the pantry at the vancouver house that he had to work from for over a year [Music] let's go check out the downstairs area this is the second living space and i think that this would be wonderful to fit our entire large family for game nights i love these original parquet floors wood paneling the beams in the ceiling this place is just magic this is the main bedroom in the downstairs area and it's a really good size and it also has the beautiful tongue and groove ceiling there's something so calming and familiar about this house and very comforting i feel very at home here already well the plan was we weren't serious but now i'm serious i want this backyard so we're going wine tasting with our realtors and my sister right now to figure out what do we do what do we do here you guys it's an acre in the city five minutes from my parents house up here is a rooftop terrace that would become little italy and i can't wait to show you guys what that means and then that would be my work studio where i would work and store all of my vintage right there perfection right where are we going to the beach we're going to the beach and it's going to be a girls day no boys allowed you love the taste of your allergy medicine that's what you're excited about right now and now and i get two you get two allergy medicines just because i'm sick self deceiver [Music] tell them where we're going we're going to the beach for a girls trip yep girls all right i'm going to give you guys an update on what's going on with the house so first we just got to the beach we already had this girls trip planned with my sister and this little cutie right here and we just got here and um so it's kind of weird we're gonna find out if we got the house while i'm here and i'm not with jesse my husband so it's kind of weird to be getting such big news and not being together but at the same time life is kind of crazy right now so it's going to be fun i figure if we get the house we can go celebrate out on the beach if we don't get the house i've got a bottle of wine inside and we can go cry on the beach but i know it might not be meant to be it's just so hard not to get hopeful it was a beautiful house and we really like it so i should know it's 2 45 i should know here in the next two to three hours i think our listing or i mean our offer said they had till 5 pm to let us know also i want to show you guys the cutest airbnb ever this is my brother's little beach house and they bought this thing and it was a dump and they remodeled the entire thing all themselves i'm so happy for them and they did such a great job and it's so fun to have a little cute place to come and stay so we're going to be here for the next few days here is my little loft for the next couple days my sister-in-law irina did such a great job decorating everything in fact i kind of want that thing she got almost everything except for all the bedding second hand she's an amazing thrifter too and i think she did such a good job putting this together in such a cozy and kind of a cottage and cabin mixed vibe it's just beautiful they did such good work here i love traveling with my sister because i'm always bringing like super healthy snacks and carrot sticks and we got goldfish we got mini oreos we got croissants it's gonna be a good week you're gonna have s'mores sister there's marshmallows in here this is gonna be great oh yeah s'mores we got graham crackers this is gonna be great cinnamon toast crunch i love moms they always bring the best stuff oh look how sweet they are they have a cute little note for everyone thanks for the free wine brother i'll take it hi shannon hi so i just want to know what you're going to put in little italy first so i don't have the documents back yet but i've been told it's all been signed as a wet signature not a document so the documents have to be scanned um and they're going to send it back to me this evening so we've got some stuff to start doing no counter or anything no counter no it was the the text that i got said they accepted it wow sorry i didn't know hiding congratulations yeah thank you so much wow we were planning on making your job so much harder we're going to take you to cool houses all summer well i think i had a whole army of uh instagrammers and youtubers out there putting out good vibes for me so that's awesome yep that's that's definitely true i think it works [Music] close your eyes get some rest up by your side lay your head on my chest i know you've had a really bad day but i'm right here it's gonna be [Music] be okay [Music] we're gonna be okay [Music] is the number one ant in the entire world ichirara is the number one aunt in the entire world yes yes oh wait oh wait i thought you meant it oh wait i thought you meant it were you just copycatting me were you just copycatting me okay so what you're gonna do you can handle this you can do this sister i promise so you like we're gonna squeeze a little bit of lemon then you chew it up a little bit of lemon you're not gonna puke you're gonna do it and you're gonna love it okay cheers to your birthday love you sister magical oasis for us and that is where if you ever see me reply to your youtube comments or your dms i guarantee you i'm going to have a cup of coffee or a cup of tea and i'm going to be sitting in little italy messaging you so the bones on this house are there the quality craftsmanship is there and we cannot wait to move in and make it our forever home so to all of you i have to apologize because i had every intention of taking you guys on such a fun journey touring a ton of homes really getting to see inside a lot of very neat mid-century homes in our area and that's not going to happen because we got the house but you are going to get to see us transform this place and i don't know if it's going to be over 6 months or six years but i'm going to take you guys along with me on the entire journey and i just want to say thank you to each and every one of you for watching my videos your support means the world to me so thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart
