find of a lifetime for a twelve-year-old boy he was on vacation with his family in Arkansas when oh he discovered a true diamond in the rough ABC's John Muller has the story when Michael debt laps family stopped at this Arkansas state park called the Crater of Diamonds he wasn't expecting much what they tell you're gonna find is these little diamonds that are so small so I kind of expected maybe to get a couple of those instead an estate best known for Little Rock the 12 year old found an enormous Rock we were probably there around 10 minutes and I was just looking around on the ground and I found it on top it was very glassy very smooth didn't look like anything else around him but dead lap and his parents didn't realize he'd found a real diamond in the rough we had pretty much looked at it and kind of dismissed it and then later on in the day right when we're ready to quit we let the kids go up to the rock identification people by themselves and when I brought this rock out of the bag the guy who's there he just went bug-eyed and he said hang on a second I need to take this to the back room so then people start coming from everywhere and they're like oh yeah it's a big diamond not just big but one for the record books more than five carats in the 27th largest found in the state parks history brazzers now say if it can be cleaned and shaped it could be worth as much as $15,000 if it can get cut and it is valuable I think I'd probably want to have it cut and sell it if it's not well then it's a great souvenir and while it may not be the largest stone ever found at the crater of diamonds a distinction that belongs to a 40 carat rock found there 90 years ago it's still not a bad souvenir especially for a rainy day it was actually a rainy morning and we're thinking of not even going but it's just amazing how much attention a five carat diamond brings The Good Morning America John Muller ABC News New York
