last week on design genius Marta Anya and the leaf went head-to-head to create designs from materials found in hospitals in the end Marta was sent packing while Anya and elite will be challenged by a new contestant this week on design genius a true designer seems nothing the possibility they see potential it's all that surrounds them success is in the vision but it's not always smooth selling each episode designer to be plunged into the unknown will they survive three designers three challenges run overall look inspired by the objects of my choice two will be safe and one will be eliminated with the winner of the series taking home $25,000 come on it's a great kick you stress I give up this is design genius I have no idea what they're gonna throw at me this time I'm just hoping it's not too difficult and I just can't wait to start the game plan is to stick to the inspiration and make something with just go ahead seven all the looks I'll be Tanja and I'll surely with this new person konichiwa designers almond our CEO in this is design genius international TV personality entrepreneur fashion designer and celebrity stylist in - EO is one of the youngest designers ever to show at New York Miami and Los Angeles Fashion Week you're here because of your design talent but can your talents adapt to my challenges Tanya Lilly you were successful with the last challenge which said Marta home packing and today you'll be joined by a new opponent meet Ivana my name is Ivana vasilica and I'm from London my strengths as a designer is to be free and to create things I really considered to be beautiful I don't contemplate on my weaknesses I prefer to focus on my strengths I rather build on those and make those even bigger she's very talented and very competitive so if you want to win this money you're gonna have to step your game up my biggest advantage on the new person is the fact that I know what material we get to work with and how the machines work I'm quite confident but I'm hoping that the new opponent you do not come with lots of experience that can give edge over me so I'm quite afraid of that I bet you guys are wondering what I have in store for you today well first you'll be designing an accessory then an undergarment lastly a wardrobe apparel piece of your choice you'll be given mandatory materials for each challenge how you use them is up to you I'm sure in your high fashion world you're used to the finest materials well today we're takin all that away for your first challenge you'll be creating an accessory using what your inspiration the grandfather okay I do not like this clock at all I do not like anything about this clock you can be as literal or as figurative as you like in your designs it's about making the unimaginable fashionable one of you could be the design genius and walk away with $25,000 one hour on the clock your time dart now I saw this Ward and I went like oh my god at this stage I really had no idea was to do out of this prick they were solid breaks when Sanka has saw this little shredded wood and I thought oh perhaps that could be my rescue oh absolutely not inspired by the grandfather clock love the big pile of wood you can do loads of things with it so I decide to stuff fabric with the wood shavings and create a bird shape out of it five minutes already gone I am completely shocked right now I do not know what to do that is so not going down coming up on design genius machine is not breaking - that time is gone in conceptualizing I didn't know what's going on it's a competition it's a game just have fun and supply name I am super pissed no it looks like you got it out of a drunk drawer you're definitely gonna have to step it up the next two challenges if you're gonna stay in the game it's about making the unimaginable fashionable at this stage I really had no idea was to go out of this break they were solid bricks I am completely shocked right now I do not know what we do I'm trying to cut the word but it's not helping me and it's singing a lot of time so I don't know what to do like I have to think instantly again machine is not working oh good luck with that I had the same problem god that's the worse man that happened especially when you need to hurry crazy sewing machine it wasn't set properly and it really kind of said oh my god what am I gonna do if Vanna would happen to your finger god what a story some moment I thought I'd lost my finger that's terrible timing put ice on it very quickly and swelling seems to go down and it's blue you didn't break though we have to do all this work here my needle broke and my fingers busted and I busted my ankle and everything so difficult here it's a competition it's a game just have fun and stop whining honestly hey designers do y'all hear that I think it's the sound of the grandfather clock ticking you guys have 30 minutes how fun that time has gone in conceptualizing I don't know what going on I'm trying to drill a hole and it's not drilling I'm a designer not a carpenter I am super pissed now one minute left five four three two one your time is up Anya but this is this table oh I'm interested to see what you came up with I love my cuckoo and I'm sure other people do too so I don't think they'll send me home because of the cuckoo but I don't like the judging moment so I don't really want to go in there but we have to I definitely feel my belt the best out of all the three pieces and it's actually an item which is bearable trapped in my concept rice and not me not many people can understand what I have made so I'm very nervous like designers for your first challenge today you were asked to create an accessory using wood your inspiration the grandfather clock ivana talk to me about your creation and how you use the materials and the inspiration I created about I used the inspiration of the clock by using two colors gold and white then the middle layer I've used the wood off the clock using shredded wood and the back layer which is white leather is the back of the clock it looked more like a fanny pack a potpourri fanny pack at that than in actual belts I also would have liked for you to challenge yourself a little bit more with the mandatory materials lolly there are so many places in the world where booming their gold all the time so I took that all the inspiration and put it in my accessory I use the chains as a form of pendulum all together so I put it around the entire neck piece to show off my inspiration well I can definitely see the inspiration in the clock with the hanging chains it looks like you got it out of a junk drawer it's all clumped and balls together you turn it over it's like glued the tool cheapened it you're definitely gonna have to step it up the next to challenge is if you're gonna stay in the game Anya talk to me about your creation so I made a little bird which doesn't really look like a cuckoo but it's inspired I filled it with the wood shavings I was actually trying to find some see-through nylon like stretch I am kind of satisfied with the result I love this I would however like to see some more wood other than that I think it's genius and I actually gonna probably wear it next episode so well done designers you still have two challenges left I want to see the unimaginable fashionable so bring your a gave I was so excited and I shall loved my bird and the fact that was inspired by him so I'm feeling quite confident now cuckoo toys was my piece is more of a fashion piece from the challenge I think I wanna is not at all creative designers for your second challenge you'll be creating an undergarment keep in mind that the inspirational item needs to be referenced the material you'll be using for this challenge is beach ball how you make some fashionable is up to you again it's about making the unimaginable fashionable so you guys will have two hours with two hours in the clock your time starts now are you down I can create wonders right now so I'm gonna make a stencil which looks like a buttock trait or something which can match to the world clock and I'm gonna spray-paint it that's not my idea beach balls falling from the sky it's a fun material but they all have these ghastly prints I don't want to spray because plastic dries slowly and then it comes off so I'm just go ahead right and make some bloomers at this stage you didn't know what I was going to do I thought I'm just gonna pick the colors first and then I just start cutting and then I'm sure that some ideas will emerge okay I'm sorry I think art of the third scissors away oh no he'll miss Ivana took all the scissors and pretended nothing happened so I'm like oh my god is this part of the challenge do they take away our scissors but no miss Ivana had them all I don't really trust her coming up on design genius is breaking like at this point your execution could cause you elimination I need clothes that are wearable for your second challenge you'll be creating an undergarment at this stage I didn't know what I was going to do no my machine again no please don't do this to me no way no it's breaking please not using I'll use now everybody using yeah sorry dan are you sure you're done more or less yes so she stops early she's like oh I'm done and I'm like okay you can always finish up little details she won't she asks if anybody wants her help and I'm like please stay away from my garment just don't touch anything I'm doing I just don't really trust her ivana $25,000 honey you sure there you don't want to use this last minute really like at this point I'm trying to give finishing touch to my bust here and um I cut it and it's a big hole right in front now I have to cut another hole to make it symmetrical which I really don't want to do under time is clicking 59 seconds three two one time is up designers you had two hours to create an undergarment I'm very interested to see what you came up with I feel really good right now because you know I have done the best errand and I'm really excited for the concept my bikini came out fabulously I really love what I've done I'm happy about my bloomers I like the idea but I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that they still look like a beach ball so we'll see designers for your second challenge today you are asked to create an undergarment using blow-up beach toys let's see what you created Anya tell me about your creation and how you used the material and incorporated the inspiration I use the circular shape of the clock I decided to go make bloomers because they're kind of round they're feminine and I used beach balls with a circular pattern I think you did a great job incorporating the mandatory material and it's actually so ugly it's cute I think it's fun funky and youthful also I'm not really seeing the clock inspiration in the piece I thought so in order to keep it clean surface to produce piece I used the same colors should I use the white beach ball too great to press caps and I created a little brat chopped there's a lot of detailing on the back I love the colors I think it's classy its elegant it's sophisticated and overall it's sexy I don't know what girl wouldn't want to wear this top however the neckline is uneven and so are the straps while you were wasting time you could have perfected this piece Lily my inspiration then I saw the clock I saw a beautiful print in it so I created a bust here here with the help of the print and I have used all the mandatory material I haven't used any of the other material which was provided on the set that's my bust here I love that you just use only the material however your choice is when it comes to detail are disasterous the garment should be lined and finished you have the concepts and the ideas but your execution could cause you elimination designers I want to see innovation and I want to see more use of these mandatory materials I need clothes that are wearable you have one final challenge to take this home or one of you will be going home I tried to put my heart and soul into the into the bastion I'm worried about going home if Vanna stopped you don't see the beach ball it's just something that you might find in another store so I don't find it really innovative I miss bloomers it's not a fashion item it's it's it's not variable I didn't like any of the pieces to order true to Santa mate so I feel I hit the best designers your final material for this challenge is banana unique beliefs it's all or nothing six hours on the clock your time starts now these aren't a banana leaves I'm familiar with like in European normal banana leaves which are smaller you can make lots of things with it but these are massive leaves that really easily come apart my initial idea is to make a skirt which can go right away with my last year so I'm making a bottom piece now I've never used banana leaves but I know how to handle them so yes I sort of leave and it's just look so beautiful I really love the variable decoration and I knew there was going to be really hard to use coming up on designs you come on you're gonna do a lot of whining what should I do come on no way I'm looking for the Spanish and I can't find it and I'm running out of time I'm really freaking pissed off that there's nothing I can use it's over for one of you or maybe two of you the final material for this challenge is banana knee police I've never used banana leaves but I know how to handle them so yes please machine dressed like this and nothing works and then it starts and it doesn't stitch you want to do a lot of whining my thinks I'm missing what should I do come on Anya yes I know I do I saw in here guys so bad food a show in whatever genius you can do anything right I basically used all the tape and set it's sticking together it doesn't fall apart and I'm happy facing a lot of problems right now and stitching the entire Jersey with such a heavy material it's such a problem and creating a pattern out of it say god I saw this domestic sewing machine hanging around I was concerned that the needle wouldn't have been strong enough for the Siq bamboo leaves Oh no way I'm sitting the zipper and zipper is broken bad luck again two minutes left time is ticking everybody's pantech and my leaves are starting to turn brown and I'm thinking like oh my god what can I do now I already did the varnish the lacquer the blow-dryer and nothing worked and I'm looking around trying to find something to help me and I'm really freaking pissed off that there's nothing I can use I'm looking for the Spanish and I can't find it and I'm running out of time wool one minute come on just have to put this vanish on try chap clean it up and I'm done and dot it's over for one of you or maybe two of you well I'm quite relaxed after the final challenge because the piece is coming out really good I have no idea what to expect the only thing I'm sure of is that I used only the mandatory material but I'm really really nervous so comparing my word was the other word I bet honey bee to bee sting I think both of them should go home if somebody goes home I would like it to be Ivana it's not really fair because she's really good I just like Lily better he's more fun to work with designers for your third and final challenge you were asked to create a wardrobe apparel piece using banana leaves and neat beliefs let's see what you created Anya tell me about your design and how you use the materials and your inspiration I was trying to make a dress it ended up being a two-piece I chose to make it a pin-up look based on the bloomers and that's why I made it much shorter in the back than in the front so I really appreciate the fact that you were the only designer to just use the banana leaves to create a full garment so definitely get props for that unfortunately though you glued and tape the entire garment this is a fashion show not an art show Lily I tried to create a skirt which can be worn with my bust year so I have tried to create the pattern and surface with the Leafs so I try to weave them so I have also used three tassels right at the right side of the skirt so that's my idea I loved your colors it was brilliant and the fact that you used the banana leaves woven as the face of the dress I thought was genius I don't know what you were thinking lining this garment with lace it doesn't stretch like the spandex and it looks awful on the model Ivana I created a course of dress in order to keep cohesive as the previous pieces I stick to the same color range I created the understructure so the bamboo is protected and it was wearable so it doesn't scratch on the skin makes the garment more longer lasting and wearable it is help to be strapless so we could use under wrap his decorated earlier and we could actually see the detail so I thought it was really elegant and classy it was a great color palette the fact that you used the materials as boning was brilliant however your potpourri fanny pack is never gonna be in fashion I don't know what you were thinking with that you didn't really use the materials and I couldn't see the inspiration sometimes you only get one shot and one opportunity it's important to make every second count congratulations your state the next time you may not be so lucky I'm really happy you like my dress and he said I'm saved Lily Anya you both were the bottom two Anya it's not about individual pieces but the overall vision and that's why I'm gonna give you one more shot Lily I'm sorry today you're not a design genius I never thought that I'll get eliminated so I feel no it will be a big challenge to win on this competition I'm not happy about Louise going home sorry to lose the weight goodbye design genius
