[Applause] this is definitely something you don't see every day a sunken or beached boat maybe a little bit of both so I'm on the far end of Brooklyn way out basically in the middle of nowhere exploring what they call dead horse Bay it's an area made famous by horse rendering plants in the 1800s and then a massive landfill that is slowly eroding away into the ocean it's really it's truly incredible to come here and see this this is a scavengers dream to come here and pick out marbles and old bottles and shoes and keys I've even heard of people finding rings and watches things like that back in the 1800s this area was home to horse rendering plants what is that that's basically when they take dead animals dead horses and make things like glue out of them and they would dump a lot of that waste or by-product into the ocean so as you're walking along the beach you can find pieces of cut up or chopped up bone from various animals big thigh bones and things like that it's uh it's it's an interesting place all right see look these I believe are horse bones like a horse horse vertebrae and the beach is it's lined with these this is another one possibly from a horse bone I mean they used all kinds of animals but it's more famous for the for the horses since dead horse Bay once the horse rendering plants were gone the city started to use this area as a landfill and sometime in the early to mid 1900s what homes were here were bulldozed and whatever was left in the homes also went into the landfill there's quite a bit of garbage here I think in some places it was built up as much as 16 feet high and now as as time goes on the waves come in and erode away the embankment exposing these treasures if you will it's definitely a hidden gem that a lot of people do not even know about look at this perfume bottle sitting here on the beach here's a collection of some things that I found a couple irons they have the actual knobs on them this one has a control for I don't know Heat who knows it's pretty old and then these nice property of horn and Hardart property of horn & Hardart Co looks like a butter knife found a couple of these just some interesting things here alright so look at this tree it's been uprooted obviously due to the erosion but it must have grown through all this garbage and you could see just random bottles and tires all entangled in these roots and actually digging around in here I found this this old wrench and this marble it's kind of cool I mean who knows how long this stuff has been in here it's like a time capsule almost look at this I really share how old but they look pretty old this one has a wooden heel to it there's a ton of them out here ton of shoes so basically what the speech is just thousands and thousands of bottles all different colors most of them are broken by now every once in a while you could see a scavenger or somebody looking through the mud for something something unique cool bottle I've heard stories of people finding gold watches and jewelry whatever was left behind [Applause] it's incredible how many crash boats or beached boats there are out here it's straight out of the movie Jaws big holes in the sides it's weird or if you can actually see inside this one let's see living in there crazy came up to another boat here obviously been here a long time oh shoot collection Souls just weird to think like whose boat was this how did this end up here this boat is all the way up here into the weeds probably the biggest one on the beach here this is what's left of the controls looks like it was probably a pretty nice boat at some point who knows how long it's been here definitely gives me that sinking feeling no pun intended so that is dead horse Bay I'm gonna get out of here go get some food and since I'm in New York When in Rome I'm gonna go get some pizza thanks for watching hope you liked it make sure you follow me on Instagram mobile instinct and if you have any suggestions of places you want me to see go on my website the mobile instinct comm and send me suggestion maybe I'll come and check it out thanks for watching guys there better not be anything living in here like a family of raccoons or something I'm not gonna do this
