engines to fail from there</font> huge waves and high winds<font color="#CCCCCC"> forced the</font> ship to drift towards land<font color="#E5E5E5"> and she</font> became precariously close to grounding in fact she<font color="#E5E5E5"> was</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> only within</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> 100 feet of</font> grounding before crew restarted her engine the waves caused by the storm were an estimated<font color="#CCCCCC"> 26 feet high</font> passengers aboard the Viking<font color="#E5E5E5"> sky</font> described furniture sliding<font color="#CCCCCC"> and window</font> panes breaking the crew had begun with<font color="#E5E5E5"> a</font> total of<font color="#CCCCCC"> 1373</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> passengers but more than</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">400 passengers</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> were airlifted via</font> helicopter rescue<font color="#E5E5E5"> efforts during the</font> storm <font color="#E5E5E5">however 900 terrified passengers</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> were</font> left<font color="#E5E5E5"> aboard the Viking sky as she rolled</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">along with the angry waves of the</font> temperamental<font color="#CCCCCC"> Norwegian</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> sea number</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> 9 the</font> princess Hawaii the princess Hawaii is a<font color="#E5E5E5"> fishing vessel</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">so she is built to withstand moderate</font> waves<font color="#E5E5E5"> but the two rogue waves that she</font> crashed into on March 25th<font color="#E5E5E5"> 2018 or</font> anything but moderate the princess Hawaii<font color="#E5E5E5"> was about 400 miles north off the</font> Big Island of Hawaii<font color="#E5E5E5"> with the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> wave</font> struck the sheer force of the rogue waves were too<font color="#CCCCCC"> much for the 61 foot</font> fishing vessel the waves knocked five of the eight people off the ship<font color="#E5E5E5"> and into</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the sea the remaining people were forced</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">to</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> abandon ship as the rogue waves took</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the ship down</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> luckily</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the captain was</font> able<font color="#CCCCCC"> to deploy the ship's life raft and</font> everyone was able<font color="#E5E5E5"> to climb aboard it the</font> people aboard<font color="#E5E5E5"> the princess Hawaii said</font> that they had never experienced waves of <font color="#E5E5E5">that magnitude or waves that had come on</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">so quickly</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> they watched in shock</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> as the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">princess Hawaii sank into the</font> another nearby<font color="#E5E5E5"> ship was called via radio</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and came to the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> rescue the color="#E5E5E5"> on August 29th 1916 the USS</font> Memphis<font color="#E5E5E5"> a United States Navy armored</font> Cruiser<font color="#E5E5E5"> met three massive waves while in</font> the Santo Domingo<font color="#CCCCCC"> Harbor in the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">Dominican Republic</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> each of these waves</font> was over 70<font color="#E5E5E5"> feet damage in a reported 61 cabins luckily no one was<font color="#CCCCCC"> injured but those aboard</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font> Norwegian Don will likely never forget its run-in with the wave number<font color="#CCCCCC"> 6</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">HMS Albemarle the HMS Albemarle was a</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">British battleship</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> that came</font> head-to-head with something called rogue waves<font color="#CCCCCC"> on November</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> 7th 1915</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">rogue waves are unexpected waves that</font> come out<font color="#CCCCCC"> of nowhere and are much</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> bigger</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and fiercer than their surrounding waves</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">the ship was hit by two of these waves</font> consecutively<font color="#E5E5E5"> the waves devastated the</font> ship<font color="#E5E5E5"> her forward main gut turret was</font> flooded as water rose higher than her <font color="#E5E5E5">four top the waves smashed her</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> for</font> bridge and damaged countless other features five people died as a result<font color="#E5E5E5"> of</font> these huge waves<font color="#E5E5E5"> and 17 other people</font> were severely<font color="#E5E5E5"> injured making the HMS</font> Alba Mars encounter with the rogue waves one of the worst encounters in history <font color="#E5E5E5">number</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> five</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the discovery</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> On passengers said it was one of<font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> most</font> terrifying experiences<font color="#CCCCCC"> of</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> their lives</font> passengers were literally tossed<font color="#E5E5E5"> from</font> their bunks as a storm raged<font color="#E5E5E5"> some of the</font> waves measured a massive<font color="#E5E5E5"> 91 feet high</font> the waves encountered by<font color="#E5E5E5"> the discovery</font> are among some<font color="#E5E5E5"> of</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the highest waves</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> ever</font> recorded in<font color="#E5E5E5"> the open ocean</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> number 4</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font> MS<font color="#E5E5E5"> prince and</font><font color="#E5E5E5">face-to-face with freak waves on</font> february<font color="#E5E5E5"> 1st 2007 somewhere near the</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">antarctic segment of the cruise</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">waves damaged her elegant decks</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font> rogue waves which were a staggering 40 feet<font color="#CCCCCC"> high</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">damage the</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> ship but the force and impact</font> of the waves<font color="#E5E5E5"> injured 40 people and the</font> waves left<font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> ship in a mess</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the waves</font> hit with such force<font color="#CCCCCC"> that dishes were</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">broken mirrors were cracked</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and a</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">variety of other smaller objects were</font> strewn throughout the ship<font color="#CCCCCC"> it took the</font> crew of the MS<font color="#CCCCCC"> prince and dom days to</font> clean up the<font color="#E5E5E5"> debris</font> [Music] number three the anthem of the Seas<font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font> anthem of the Seas is<font color="#CCCCCC"> a luxury cruise</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">ship run by Royal Caribbean and like</font> most cruise ships<font color="#E5E5E5"> she's built to</font> withstand fierce storms into massive waves<font color="#E5E5E5"> but in 2017</font> she had a close call<font color="#CCCCCC"> with a</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> massive wave</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">there were four thousand five hundred</font> guests aboard<font color="#E5E5E5"> and 1,600 crew members</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">when the wave came crashing down</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font> anthem of the Seas<font color="#E5E5E5"> was enroute</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> to a port</font> in Florida but because<font color="#CCCCCC"> of the severity</font> of the storm she was rerouted<font color="#E5E5E5"> and sent back to</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> New</font> Jersey passengers held their breath as enormous<font color="#E5E5E5"> waves came crashing down</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font> with wind speeds of<font color="#E5E5E5"> 120 miles an hour</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">passengers were instructed to remain</font> inside<font color="#CCCCCC"> the safety</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> of the ship's walls</font> indefinitely<font color="#CCCCCC"> four</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> people were injured</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and numerous public rooms were damaged</font> before<font color="#E5E5E5"> the anthem of the Seas was able</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">to find calmer waters</font> number two the HMNZS<font color="#CCCCCC"> otago the HMNZS</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> Oh</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">taco is a tough warship</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> at 270 feet long</font> she can travel at 25 miles<font color="#E5E5E5"> per hour</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> and</font> displace up to<font color="#E5E5E5"> 1,900 tons of water</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the</font> ship is owned<font color="#CCCCCC"> by</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the New</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Zealand Navy</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and has extensive experience navigating</font> rough waters<font color="#E5E5E5"> she is no</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> stranger to</font> storms however<font color="#E5E5E5"> she met her match when</font> she encountered a crazy storm in the southern sea and<font color="#CCCCCC"> even this fierce</font> warship had a difficult time against the massive waves brought on by the storm <font color="#CCCCCC">the Southern Ocean is known for its gale</font> force winds and<font color="#E5E5E5"> waves but this storm was</font> particularly<font color="#CCCCCC"> violent</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> and the storm</font> brought enormous waves with it<font color="#E5E5E5"> the waves</font> which were an estimated<font color="#CCCCCC"> 65 feet</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> high</font> crashed over the front of<font color="#E5E5E5"> the ship in</font> fact the entire<font color="#E5E5E5"> bow of the HMNZS</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> otago</font> was completely<font color="#E5E5E5"> submerged</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> underwater at</font> times before<font color="#E5E5E5"> she was able to resurface</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">she battled hard though and beat the way</font> she victoriously cruised her way through <font color="#E5E5E5">the storm</font> number one the MS<font color="#E5E5E5"> Queen Elizabeth</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> - on</font> September<font color="#E5E5E5"> 11th 1995</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> cue nard lines the</font> MS<font color="#E5E5E5"> Queen Elizabeth</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> - was travelling</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> on</font> course from Southampton<font color="#CCCCCC"> to New York and</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">she was forced to</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> change course</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">hurricane Lewis was ravishing the</font> Atlantic Ocean<font color="#CCCCCC"> and to avoid the</font> hurricane she was rerouted but the swells winds and waves caused by the hurricane<font color="#E5E5E5"> were unavoidable</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> the winds</font> howled at 130 miles an hour<font color="#CCCCCC"> rattling the</font> windows<font color="#CCCCCC"> the MS Queen Elizabeth 2 hit</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">several smaller waves of around 40 feet</font> before<font color="#E5E5E5"> the big one came</font> the<font color="#E5E5E5"> Colossus 95 foot wave smashed into</font> the<font color="#E5E5E5"> MS Queen Elizabeth</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> 2 severely</font> damaging her in places passengers gasped as the unbelievable<font color="#E5E5E5"> wave crashed down</font> and the<font color="#E5E5E5"> ship swayed precariously</font> fortunately although<font color="#CCCCCC"> the ship was</font> damaged<font color="#CCCCCC"> no one was injured and</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> the</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> Queen</font> <font color="#CCCCCC">Elizabeth was able to</font><font color="#E5E5E5"> weather the storm</font> <font color="#E5E5E5">and</font><font color="#CCCCCC"> arrive safely ashore</font> however the massive<font color="#E5E5E5"> 95 foot wave she</font> took on
