hey everybody and welcome to another video in this one we're going to look at using white maps with d-force before we get started just let us say thank you to everybody who has subscribed so far you're all awesome and it's really amazing to see how many of you want to see my content and if you haven't already subscribed feel free to jump on over there and hit the subscribe and the notification button maybe give this video a thumbs up if you liked it let me know what you think in the comments below also a shout out to all of my supporters on subscribe stuff whether you're supporting my work for my youtube videos or one of my games your help is always appreciated and yeah thanks ever so much for that it means a lot to me let's jump in there so what you'll have in real-world situations is maybe you want to create something like a tablecloth that you want to pin to a table so that it falls but it doesn't slide off completely or you want to hang some clothing on a washing line or something like that so what you need is a method of pinning your clothes or your d-force item in place in certain positions so that the simulation doesn't affect those parts of the cloth what we use for that is weight maps so what we're going to do is we're going to create a new plane I'm gonna give it 50 divisions we're going to create it one meter it doesn't matter how big is for the purposes of this explanation which has given us a nice little square just there so the first thing we need to do is obviously select our plane and we're going to go to edit object geometry and we're going to add a modifier static surface so we're telling the simulation that this is a d4 surface so the next thing that we need to do is we need to go into create we need to just open up this so we can see we definitely still got the plane so later we're going to go to create and we're gonna come all the way down here I'm going to go to nudi force modifier weight node and it'll ask you to give it a name we're just going to leave that as default hit accept and now you'll notice that the plane has a new property ad force modifier wait note now without touching this it doesn't make any difference we have to actually now edit this and this is where a lot of people stumble so what we're going to do is we're going to select this tool here that looks like a barbell with a brush through it and we're going to open our tool settings and we're going to check that we've got our default modifier white notes selected in scene tab and what you should be seeing in the tool settings is all of this and what we want to do is we want to hit add map and that has added a weight map now red means maximum effect so this is all currently this entire square is going to be affected by the simulation so what we want to do is check that we've got our paintbrush tool selected and we're just going to hold down the Alt key and we're just going to paint over this section in the center so what we're doing is we're subtracting by holding down the Alt key we're subtracting influence off this now this gray area means that d-force does not face this section at all so if we were to go into simulation settings now and hit similar as you can see the tablecloth has fallen down except for that area we paint it now on its own is actually not a bad example of how we could use this to create an effective maybe like a small end table you could have provide sitting on top of it the mesh itself isn't high resolution enough to really pull that off but it demonstrates the principle in that one thing I should say is that when you've finished the steps that we've talked about is come back into the properties tab of the plane and check that the simulation is set to dynamic surface make sure that it's not on static surface so there we go now let's clear that information so let's just create another object and we're going to come back into our way my page sleep before we do anything else we're gonna select our g-force modifier weight node and we're actually going to paint that area of influence back in so that it defaults now affects the entire surface alike so marvelous and we're gonna create a new primitive we're going to create a sphere and it doesn't matter how big it is half a meters fine there we go and we're gonna drag this down and to the side note that's no good like so and now when we hit the simulate button you'll see that the cloth slides right off which is obviously not what we want so we're gonna hit clear again and we're gonna do a little bit of magical positioning to make sure that simulation is going to not look completely bonkers so make sure that that's not poking through like fat snow this should be minus 50 because it's half a meter and we know that our plane is exactly on zero at the moment so we're now going to move that along until there and what we want to do is select our default modifier weight node again come back into our tool settings we're going to select our weight modifier tool hold down the Alt key and we're just gonna make sure that the area of influence is gray at the top of the sphere like so if you click off of it just reselect the object now when we run our simulation you can see that the tablecloth has now pinned itself to the top of the ball and draped itself around so this is incredibly useful on for example items of clothing if you want them to stay in certain places or if you don't want them to fall down around someone's shoulders or anything like that it's a really handy tool that you can use it's very simple and quick and it gets you the results that you want so I hope you found that tip useful and it's a quick one but I'll see you in the next one thanks very much bye bye
