[Applause] [Music] welcome to the afternoon session here on day one of the European Athletics under-20 championships coming to you from the Rio Val and athletic stadium here in borås just about 50 60 kilometres west of Gothenburg well he had an interesting morning we had heats in the 100 meters for both men and women we had the first two disciplines of the heptathlon we had plenty of field event qualifiers just look at that it's going to be about 23 degrees had it hike this evening perhaps a little bit cooler as we go towards the end of the session about quarter past seven and with a bit of luck although we have great clouds above us the rains going to stay away I'd be lying if I said we're going to get through the next four days without any rain it's looking very damp tomorrow and Saturday but for today we're keeping our fingers crossed that we're not going to have the heavens open on us the crowd here at the rear valence stadium starting to come in they are providing great support for not just the Swedish athletes we saw a little bit of the Swedish flags out fluttering around but for all 51 member Federation's of European athletics represented here there's the timetable for this afternoon and we get underway in about five minutes with the third discipline in the heptathlon the shotput and then we go through the first rounds of some middle-distance events the women's 800 the men's 1500 we have qualifying in the high jump the long jump and we finished the day with the first rounds of the men's 3,000 meters but before that we have the fourth discipline which will decide the overnight leaders in the heptathlon now last week we were at the european under-23 on the other side of sweden in the Evra and the heptathlon was an absolutely thrilling competition through every single one of the seven disciplines well alongside me is my co commentator Alex fel I'm Phil Mitchell good afternoon to you Alex great morning wasn't it to start proceedings here good afternoon yes we've set for another excellent heptathlon I should think so it really came down in particular to the javelin Geraldine Brooks to the teammate of one the swiss athletes down there in the center and a fifty four meter throw of course she competed in the javelin individually as well but that really put her in the driving seat come the time for the 800 meters but a number of these women at under-20 level have lots and lots of Phebe's you feel in their lock of the improvement is just waiting to happen over the next two days and it's going to be a real pleasure to watch it happen we've already seen Holly Mills look impressive this morning Carlin and Vicente as well we expect to be the other real gold medal contenders but don't discount Kate O'Connor as well the Irish senior national record holder who was at the Commonwealth Games last year as we see the standings capable on the screen so it was 34 points after two events Mills from Vicente after one event sorry and then 90 points our two events as you can see Mills from Carlene well just to let you know as we're getting ready for this afternoon's session you can follow all the results as well if you're listening to us you already know where the website is but all the results reports interviews around WWWF European - athletics org now Alex you're also following everything on social media that's right so Facebook Twitter Instagram in particular as well so lots of highlights and clips and quotes as well plenty to keep across and the hashtag for this event for us 2019 so do let us know what you're following who you'll be supported now we're looking at the projected standings if everyone achieved their lifetime bests O'Connor there in fact is in fourth place number one now she has an incredibly good shot put and javelin but in particular to watch out for but we do feel that some of the other athletes like Vicente and Mills as I mentioned have a few TVs to come also a strong second day and we saw down in ninth place at the moment but true bank over the Russian competing as an authorized neutral athlete well she's projected to finish fourth well we have a lot of fun with predictions last week in yellow regarding the heptathlon and Decathlon predictions they weren't quite as accurate as perhaps I think they were hoping to be but nevertheless it's quite nice to speculate as we look now at the women's heptathlon shop put both groups operating side by side and well we just look down the list of the competitors a shout out for European Athletics international partners Eurovision and Lagoo year whose assistance has been invaluable in bringing you this European athletics live stream and this isn't the only live stream for this summer well we've already had one in ávila last week at the European under-23 s coming up next month the second weekend of August we have European Team Championships live streams from the Super League in B'gosh in Poland and also the first league from sanh nests in Norway and then moving along to the 9th and 10th of September a live stream from the match which is the inaugural outdoor Jul between Europe and the USA that's being held in the Belarus capital Minsk and we'll be bringing you all the action from there yes so a few strong shoppers in this one as always in the heptathlon there's quite a variation in quality some that have made recent good improvements thanks no doubt to some good coaching as well but for others it's perhaps a little bit of a case of damage limitation 14:40 Johanna Siebler the German is one of the better heptathlon this one but she's not really featured too much earlier on down in 13th overall in the standings after a 163 high jump so could certainly do with maximizing her potential from this next event O'Connor this could be a real opportunity for the Irish senior national record holder that's a 5,000 881 overall score new lifetime best in fact this year of 1348 Holly Mills has also improved her Shoplet 1265 thrower early on Holly Mills 1345 in the hurdles worth a thousand and fifty eight points and that is in fact the fastest by a GB under 20 in a heptathlon beating 1346 by Jess Ennis thanks to John Wall keen on Twitter for that one yes John avidly following one of the world-renowned statisticians and always very good with his own multi events analysis Cena saw a number of good Czech kept athletes at the under-23 there were particularly good runners and high jumpers as well but maybe and not as consistent as some of the other athletes overall [Music] although Herbert over I mean she's throwing over 13 meters I think she's one of the better throwers if not the best yeah unfortunately only managed a 157 high jump and that's why she's in 19th place in the standings but opportunity to move up a fair few places here you have thought slightly pained expression as she waits for the measurement to come up so twelve meters and sixty that's worth seven hundred and one points quarter Rodwell of Sweden the circle on top of the a just like in Boris is pronounced with an O sound you're getting very good as Swedish you had a few trips here this sauna hum new well it's because I've been working with us a Swedish commentator and a linner a sunny who was at that part of the organizing team for this one was helping out co-chairing the press conference with the Peter Sanderson of European athletics so always good to have a native helping you and that's the case for Rob Lowe who's having a bit of help just a bit of analysis and coaching following her throw kienast well a few strong Germans in this one perhaps not quite as strong as Sophie Heisenberg who was very close to taking that under-23 title she was incredibly consistent and there was an athlete who came in having broken a thousand points across four events so you can see 1162 her best had not one of her stronger events but I believe she's also competing in the long jump individually the best is 639 yes it's not unusual at the under-23 s and under-20 championships to see some of the athletes also competing in individual events we saw it with Gerald a rut Stoll who went on to throw the javelin Maria Vicente here is also going to be doing the long jump yeah it was unfortunate for a rich doll that she she threw further in the heptathlon than the individual however she would have need to thrown to have thrown even further than the 54 meters that got her thee up too they have tough on gold in order to improve on her placing and get a medal around 55 meters that was needed this is Dobson of Great Britain and Northern Ireland's future reasonably well so far 172 high jump started off with a 1539 hurdle so that perhaps wasn't one of her stronger events [Applause] so 11 meters and 40 that graphic shows her as being in first place but that is in group a which features those with the shorter personal bests generally although there have been a couple of split seeding so far that have changed that [Music] sadhika of Latvia they got just their third ever gold at the European under-23 championships in the 200 meters with Scindia books sir 10 meters and 39 it is a season's best [Music] [Music] [Music] Louise Miraval of France here 9 meters and 78 here is Maria Vicente I think it's fair to say that she hasn't looked at our absolute best across the first two events so far certainly not sir compared to the previous times I've seen the world and European under-18 champion so using the glide technique there and just not quite able to stay within the circle losing her balance the Spaniard was also European under-18 champion in the triple John 18 year old from Catalonia Janette Han ski of Finland is next that's a throw over 12 meters well that is a very very rudimentary technique that's a technique that stops being used by elite shot putters well back in around the 1960s the front on approach as opposed to facing the back of the circle nevertheless she has thrown 14 meters with it so it's very strong athlete she was even using conventional training shoes rather than specific specialized shot cutting shoes it still goes out a long way for the Phinn Carlene ranked number one on heptathlon the personal bests 5952 1256 we saw there her shot that maybe [Music] also the Swiss endure long jump champion as well it should be a really good battle with Carleen vicente o'connor and mills you feel those you have the strongest chance of that gold medal I think O'Connor really has the bit between her teeth and Mills of course with those two lifetime vests but O'Connor is capable of really pulling some huge throws out the bag [Music] maybe a little bit more heptathlon experience as well compared to Holly Mills so 1348 is a shop at PB Island have only ever won a handful of gold medals in the years this European under-21 under Junior Championships as it was for many years has been contested it was inaugurated in 1970 so we're talking here about 49 years of these championships and the first ever women's medal just came two years ago from Gena AK / Moses in the hundred meters so her corner but be interesting to see how it unfolds because we saw the predictions they're suggesting that she has a chance of even taking the gold potentially be just Islands second ever female gold medalist and they've only ever won four gold medals and a handful of other medals yeah as a similar case at the world under-20s last year with the relay team running a national junior record and saw Maliki jumping 1 meter 90 to get a silver medal that was really impressive stuff for them after years of few medals I always see another of the Irish medal prospects in action very shortly because we were about to get the 800 meter heats underway we're looking at Clara rad Bo set personal bests in the high jump earlier though fouling her second attempt so now the first track action of this afternoon and it's the first of four heats of the women's 800 meters seven women in this particular heat so I think we've lost what we've lost gosh dad or Norway looking at the lineup but we do have Lenna Paz Nia on the out something inside her a very good Swiss runner has won multiple medals and a defending champion in the 1500 meters Delia she clobbers alysha's josh and an empty lane lara peluquero Sarah Calvert the written and on the inside Inessa Hesh dari of North Macedonia well 3 to go through to tomorrow's semi-final with a final on Saturday so for the top athletes reasonably quality from comfortable qualifying conditions although three races in successive days it obviously progressed progressively harder suave us the big favorite she's got the European lead with two Oh 301 which he ran in the lisanna i SS Dyna League meeting two weeks ago posniak of Germany caliber to Great Britain nor mind also pretty useful and just jostling for tension the north Macedonian getting left trailing in their weight somewhat so it's just boiled down to five runners Calvert has really made a big impact this year the 18 year old Britain who only just turned 18 two weeks ago so 6241 pretty useful timing that while some races last week at the under-23 s go through the first four hundred meters much slower than that oh now it's starting to heat up and Calvert's taking the race by the scruff of the neck with two hundred meters to go glob s and storage the pole starting to struggle a little bit entire Cowell Bert Thomas hella corridor and Stosh and the Germans not being dropped yet but looks as though she's tiring and scrubbers just looking at cross motion doesn't have to work too hard and she'd not bother about getting a Pyrrhic victory one might say so Sara Kalman takes the win in the first heat 206 72 for Calvert unofficially now official - Oh 705 for Shabbos making it very easy palak auro ran really well 207 69 for the Italian setting a personal best so those the three that get through as automatic qualifiers as I said across the four heat for non automatic qualifiers serikov at one of two sisters from Scotland really holding a forum look at that determination on our base down the home straight to her sister either possibly even watching back home in Scotland [Music] Wozniak a little bit disappointing but the German crosses the line fifth still in with a very outside chance of qualifying for the next round there you can see a roundup of the results with Sarah Calvin winning in 206 72 could be B therefore hello Caro so let's take a look at the shopper and ski with her second round 1238 in the first pointing out in the first round she has the very very old-style technique of starting facing the front and just a hop and a skip across the circle never actually changing direction 14-meter thrower at best which she's managed this year Mariya Huntington did well for Finland particularly in the high jump that she had to drop out unfortunately midway through the competition we never got to the bottom of that did you hear anything about why Mira Huntington I I didn't because though she was going well we presumed injury because of the the heavy strapping right from her back down to her heel 12:44 so Ben improves slightly this is Carlene these are live pictures then 1178 in that first round just 647 points for the athletes who is certainly a medal contender so it comes down absolutely shorter than what she managed so far around the same in fact it could be a few centimeters improvement yeah on that 12 meter mark 1208 so advantage 30 centimeters further and were 666 points now Kate O'Conner full of confidence [Music] 13:41 in the first round 755 points so leaves those live standings but that's with not everyone having registered a mark just yet they're pretty comfortable they're in the circle so don't prove it for her but still very close to that lifetime best which would be worth four more points 1348 I can tell you that lo ban of Ukraine has also managed 1341 Maria is Chantay with no measurement in the first round as we saw 1160 her PB [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 1196 it is so an improvement for her [Music] to the second heat of the women's 800 meters so starting on the inside with starting on the outside about Sofia for barley average then sophie o sullivan the daughter are Sonya one of Ireland's greatest distance runners George over Bulgaria Biff stats of Sweden and Lu on Kosovo Ron Oscar of Poland and then Kili Hodgkinson European under-18 champion in your last year [Applause] where she beats Sophie O'Sullivan the camera focusing on a Great Britain athletes Hodgkinson burn-off scred le bouff stet George Ava O'Sullivan and Pahlavi who's the Italian under-20 silver medalist so we actually saw Sonya O'Sullivan here by our commentary box a few moments ago she says she's hoping that her daughter's getting a bit better with each race 206 runner at best but of course I'm sure her mother has high standards when you were you know a four-time Olympian so let's fight the Italian for volley leading them out skinny Hodgkinson also brought quite at her best this year but she did run toe to toe in Manchester with the former European champion Lindsay shark which should really impress everyone it wasn't the fastest time but it showed certainly what she's capable and really really spiked at the front the varlets burn off skirt Hodgkinson top three to go through automatically and then the next four fastest advancing to the semi-finals so sclab has won the first heat in two minutes sorry calvert one the first eat in two minutes six point zero five prompts Clavis [Music] [Applause] still as you were with that bleeding trio bevarly shoulder to shoulder with Hodgkinson burn Oscar and Sullivan hope to finish fast in the last 150 meters and make it into that all-important top three trying to run past the wide shoulders of brent Oscar Hodgkinson looks as though she's going to come through down this home straight ahead of Pahlavi and O'Sullivan to win the second heat in two minutes six point one by happy with that performance and then the cost of the athletes I think they had a runner in the 400 meters the under-23 is Rita hi Deanie I think the big news is really there is Liliana Georgie haver is running so badly she was the silver medalist two years ago in grosseto was a 17-year old but she's not really ever to use the phrase have used on a number of occasions kicked on a bit and she was out the back door very quickly there I know she had injuries last year but still she for she might be a bit more competitive today having run well 208 this year that it wasn't to be Georgie haver struggling a little bit wondering whether she'll line up for the 1,500 meters can here once again the microphone picking up the breathing of Keely Hodgkinson part of that race just about breaking sweat but not too much hodgins him from Pahlavi another strong Italian to come in a moment's time the career or the Italian under-20 champion in facts [Music] should we have a look at the shotput and see how things are getting on in the heptathlon Holly Mills this is no measurement in the first round just like Vicente who did manage to improve so Mills a little bit short of what she wants following the very high standards that she has set in the first two events 10 meters 24 so just a moment to consider how things are going [Music] overall two thousand five hundred and fifty six points thus far Kate O Connor as things stand two thousand six hundred and forty points through 97 points more than Vicente and 210 more than Mills hashtag quick maths trubin over there neutral athletes if away off where we expected her to be she won her national under-20 combined events champions in Smolensk in Russia five thousand eight hundred and seven points there so 1279 [Music] 12:53 no imprudent in the third round but still solid efforts Jeanette Lansky of Finland has improved through her series thus far carlene waiting in the wings [Music] so here is the finish a fleets a ski [Music] looks like good improvement for her 12:44 the previous best 1292 so she continues that improvement [Music] Carleen compete over switzerland the European Senior Championships in Berlin last year we'll have been hoping for more than 12 meters and eight here 1256 is her PV was in the second and we're all coming in might slip and fall here especially considering how much corner has impressed but when you consider that this is an under-20 competition the amount of international experience that some of these athletes have had I just said Kaleem competed in Berlin last year of corner Commonwealth Games [Music] many of these athletes ever competed got cysts as well so the third heat of the women's 800 meters [Music] standout performer is corey off he's improved this year to 204 24 the Italian the best of a good group of Italians in this particular event she's actually very good 400 meter runner as well but finished fifth in this particular event two years ago ingre set off as we reached the inside lane it's Mia knows of Spain and Dora from Switzerland raucous an of France choreo of Italy bucyk of Norway and Sydal of Latvia the six women looking for the three automatic qualifying spots stagger starting to unwind and through on the inside be honest at this stage running well as they head for the curb cutting across sterile of Latvia Carillo at the moment just biding our time so all six of the athletes bunched together nobody drifting off the back at this stage Braca sam took the French under-20 tight all in on chairs just a few weeks ago it's clearly another very useful runner [Applause] ricca-san sixth and seventh of this year's European under-21 so 6565 it's the slowest of the three heats so far makes life difficult for the women who finish outside of the top three to get through as non automatic qualifiers practice and running very well at this stage they come up to midway through the back straight and 250 meters to go they're on Dora the tall Swiss runner trying to find her way out of the pack [Applause] bucyk just looking a little bit caught by the break they're just trying to find a way around the flag against the rule who's looking to as though she's out of it now but it's still raucous out at the front on her shoulder Mia knows [Applause] Carrillo coming through on the outside but it's reckless and looking very strong practice on having a very good run in this particular heat and as the luxury of easing up 15 meters from the line take your pick between be honest of Spain and Koryo of Italy for who got second and third but both women got through to the semi-finals tomorrow to 1054 be honest it was who got second to 1093 and choreo to 1095 rather slow race Baracus and showed commendable maturity over two laps of the track covered every break then headed for home over the final 200 meters we though did not terribly comfortable at times I will be a runner who can handle a fast pace but then it starts to struggle tactically when it's a little bit more uneven like it was here in Boris conformation it is reka san me our loss hoody on you get through and or just bit slower with to level 50 we will have to wait see whether she has a chance of qualifying as a non automatic qualifier [Music] so it's high time we caught up with what's happened in the Shoplet the Cente of Spain overall strong contender here just 1196 rice ball she knows that won't be measured she's had sort of difficulties over this opening trio of events not looking like the favorite that she started out out as the start of the day not sure it's entirely fair to compare but Elena's shook was off form in yelets it's a little bit like that with Vicente but we'll see what the rest of the event has to follow this is a Maia Scott of Great Britain and Northern Ireland then 13.5 1352 I should say in the second round another enormous throw close to the 14 meter mark [Applause] so Scott who managed to Phoebe and the hurdles delighted with that new lifetime best worth 790 points in the shop at 1377 for her so Vicente no luck in the last round how about Holly Mills but she was leading by 90 points coming in Holly Mills frustrated another throw short of 12 meters so after two pb's in two events 1086 for her so O'Conner very much the athlete with the upward trajectory at the moment with the javelin to come suddenly things getting very very interesting was Siebler in fact with the furthest throw of all close to 14 meters then that PB we just saw from Amaya Scot and Kate O'Connor and there is quite some points difference as we'll see in a moment O'Connor the major beneficiary given that she was a high at the standings I think in fourth place coming into this Vicente also losing out 658 points and their Holly Mills 586 points so here is how it affects the standings after three events Kate O'Connor into the lead it's closer than before fairly significantly so Scot in second place to PBS for her and Holly Mills Carlene Vicente some things are changing by virtue of a shotput competition as often happens in the heptathlon is full of quite a variation in quality not least in technique as well as we saw in particular from the Finnish athletes it's time then for the last heats of the women's 800 meters the enemy outs neutral athlete on the outside good thinker of Austria Kelly and then Isabel Buffy of Great Britain the European under-18 champion in 2016 seemed a long time ago now Corbett's of Poland's then Joe keen over Ireland and Daniela Garcia of Spain so Buffy one of the standout athletes in this field two minutes 3.8 for this year she's won seven out of nine national titles she's ever contested the first being in 2015 beaten only twice once by I'm Katie McDonald and once by Keely Hodgkinson who is in this competition we saw when he had heat early on so the neutral athlete yaddam the ants on the outside Garcia of Spain has all close together [Music] staring into space but focused on the task in hand first three going through plus four time Paulo fires and at the moment I could tell you that two minutes six point eight five would get you through [Music] so Corbett and yaddam Yantz Poland and the mutual athlete from Russia when t2 so it's not as quick as the first two heats [Music] so still rather congested swim safely and flaafy as well running right on the outside trying to get themselves into better positions Goffe has done that moving to the front Joe Keenan of islands now in a good spot in second place Courbet of poland Oh perhaps saving something for the home straights so to get him yonce and it's those two who break on the outside can they close down the leaders garcia of spain coming through on the inside gonna be a really good battle right at the death of this race coffee just easing across the line two minutes nine point zero five the time showing trackside about heat one by Isabel coffee of Great Britain Northern Ireland's Garcia of Spain and then keen it was spot [Music] [Applause] so well-timed run there from the Great Britain athletes and keen of Ireland just beating the pole I'm just waiting to see who qualifies by time it may actually be that Corbett just misses out British runners taking three of the four heats so obviously Britain coming here with all guns blazing in the 800 meters confirmation of that results Buffy Garcia and keen Ireland got a bronze in the women's 800 meters through Nadia power at the European Honor 23 s in yella I think I saw a couple of comments on Twitter saying she was one of the most improved Irish athletes in 2019 let's have a look then at who advances through to those semi-finals Kili Hodgkinson was the fastest qualifier but we did see a couple of heat sir easing down across the line can't read too much into those times when it comes to the final it's all about booking your spots could be a rather cagey and tactical race we saw plenty of those at the European under-23 switch if you didn't catch too much off by all means go back and watch and they're also plenty of clips on social media as well which mean fine is on the most straightforward ways of scrolling through there was some terrific highlights well I have to say Phil I'm still catching my breath from that shock book competition which has really shaken things up as far as the heptathlon is concerned and you can just see the way that Kate O'Conner is throwing and moving and just her general aura in this stadium is really one that could bode well especially with a strong day to to come yes Mills really needs to bounce back in the 200 meters but she is a very fine sprinter indeed so expect to see some good times being caught by some of the leading contenders in the heptathlon not least of which would be Holly Mills and then of course Mills does have her best event to come first thing tomorrow morning which is the long jump yes bright green Slovenian supporters there they stuck out particularly well at the after-party where it was dark to say we've commented a couple of times on certain kit similarities but nobody's got kit like the Slovenians that how would you describe it lime green and electric blue I think yes well then Liverpool Football Club actually had a very bright yellow a couple of years ago and it was officially named toxic Liverpool in their top six trip kicking from right to left nothing against Liverpool Football Club but it was a rather nasty color at their toxic was the road well sometimes particularly as far as a goalkeeper is concerned I understand that they've used fluorescent colors in order to distract the eyes of the opposition so that's got anything to do with slovenia's design or indeed sticking out but it does help from the Colin commentators purview yes they do stand out in a crowd well as we were saying the Swedes and the Ukrainians have fairly similar kit I also find at a distance it's a little bit difficult telling apart the checks and the Latvians can always tell who the Finns are as you can see the heptathlon has Finland just going around the far side of the stadium so while we were talking about football momentarily tell you that just adjacent to here is AF Elfsborg which is based in burrows French supporters as well many many parents and friends have come out to watch some of the athletes race [Music] used to be difficult to tell the Norwegians apart from a lot of the other red kits as well but now they've swatched switch to a white kit at a distance the Norwegians and the British sometimes look very similar but well then maybe my eyesight's going as well the Norwegian kit is a great one to be at the moment because and I have to say on the track in the field and in the stands as well they sold out with this let's study on fought for the Oslo round of the diamond league earlier this year we have the European team championships first league from sand nests whether it should also be live-streamed I'll be there and you'll be in big gosh for the super league as well so you know do keep an eye for those events which are coming up early August and coming up very soon in a couple of minutes time we have the first heat of the men's 1500 meters just two heats first four men then the four fastest non-automatic losers go through to a straight final in the field in 20 minutes time qualifying for the women's high jump we've sought Beauty Levchenko in yellow win that gold medal someone who's very much established at senior level a world medallist someone who is regularly on the diamond league circuit battling Murial assets ken is so fantastic that she supported that event check it was very good high jumper but she didn't quite shine the way that she's moved on to I think if my memory serves me right she got third in Eskilstuna at the 2015 European under-21 so don't write in if the recess is my memory are a little bit faulty another Ukrainian of course the who chick features in the high jump yes along with so Maliki someone I mentioned earlier winning the Medal for eyelet of the world under-20 championships in Tampere quite a lot about a Yaroslava no chick wants the high jump qualifying gets underway and I'm sure we'll see quite a lot of it as well but now the attention switches to the track out to the far side of the stadium the 15-hundred meter start for the first of two heats in this the first round there you can see they line up well the men to make out is Joshua Lai of Great Britain norm Ireland but there's 11 men in this heat and I'll give you a rundown of all the names once they get underway well lay he's improved enormous ly this year to 340 138 there he is it's all Britain when the England under-20 Championships in Bedford not so long ago set his personal bests in a meeting in Watford on the outskirts of London for those of you who don't know you geography of Great Britain just a short while ago no Yakka being AB returned in case you are wondering he's decided to run in London this weekend at the I double F Diamond League he's the defending champion so the eleven men in this competition er ball toss of the Netherlands Bollywood Norway P era of Portugal Montero Portugal Pollini Slovakia lay Great Britain Vermeil of Netherlands dinelli of Italy the Hyden of Belgium fagner Germany and pucks of Latvia and they're still all in it's as they come around the far bed [Music] they can see in their sight three laps to go ting Appel easly fairly pedestrian first four in each heat to go through automatically looking at times the names that stand out apart from leh are and Hayden of Belgium and van real of the Netherlands as well as the era of Portugal so it's the tall rangy Norwegian bollard on who's taking it out all the rod well 17 years of age it's a 346 performer I've seen anything of him in the past so I can't really say very much about more abdullah chats follow rod [Applause] SETI's personal best in oslo recently [Applause] [Music] indeed when he was racing in Oslo he was racing in the B race 1,500 metres good opportunity for him and he took it [Music] so the 800-meter split as you can see on the right hand side of your screen 207 29 well it still as we look from left to right Pieta being just nudged out into Lane 3 Magna lay and bowler rod nobody making a decisive surge at this stage could well end up in a lust lat burn up which is so typical of these first round Heat nobody really wants him to commit themselves at this stage and all 11 men still in contention even pucks the Latvian who's just run under just inside four minutes so there's the bell and Lagos to the front this is going to be a race over 400 meters rather than 15 but it's lay now starting to speed up and stretch it out being followed by Danny le or Italy the tall Belgian for Hayden on the inside how lynnie of slovakia going around the outside of this stage before dropping back a little bit Kiera coming the long way around getting slightly boxed [Applause] he's following the tour Belgium almost slip sleep streaming the Belgium the Haydn hits the front and now this is a real battle for those places lay at the moment sit in second place and real of the Netherlands gets through in a non automatic qualifying stop his fam Hayden lay man real now let's see who gets that fourth place cuz it was tight for Hayden winning in foot 349 91 [Applause] [Music] so a very pedestrian first heat to be honest there are men in the second heat too if they use their common sense we'll take it out and make sure that the second needs is faster doesn't have to be that much faster for the time around 346 347 would almost certainly guarantee some of the men who finish in fifth sixth and seventh spot in the next race through to the final here's all the action from 40 meters out for Hayden just riding away lay looking comfortable so to van real and on the outside piera of portugal against the Norden for the fourth automatic qualifying spot [Music] confirmation it is from Hayden lave and the real and Pierrot who get the four automatic qualifying spots Danielli having been involved at the front for so much of that race drifts back to fifth 350 87 pull any personal best for the Slovakian middle distance run up run down books takes about five seconds off his official personal best so that the Latvian possibly won't go through to the final but can take great heart from having run a personal best here at the European Athletics under-23 championships like women here getting ready for the high jump yes we have the women's high jump getting underway very shortly just after five o'clock quite big fields two fields of 12 competitors and those are probably familiar with now and especially if you're an athletics fan which is why watching this European athletics livestream well the automatic qualifying high T is 183 or the 12 best performers go through we haven't really needed to get up to those automatic qualifying heights here in what a sore last week at the under-23 s in yella 183 covers about the top 12 women more chick well the Ukraine jumper cleared two meters in Eugene a weak little while ago 12 centimeters better than anybody else in Europe so also the javelin getting underway in just over 15 minutes time calling to the schedule that will be qualifying round group a the women will go in two pools at the high jump alongside one another but the first group of javelin throwers to come up shortly and then about an hour later so 6:30 local time the javelin group the men's long jump also to come in an hour and 20 minutes time on the track we've got another heat of the men's 1,500 meters and 100 meter semi-finals first for the women in around just under 15 minutes and then for the men in 40 minutes time 6 o'clock local time to women's 15-hundred meter heats the Taplin resumes at 625 here in Sweden with the 200 meters so heat 2 or 2 for the men's 1500 let's take a look at this lineup spectators watching on the background traffic driving past - we're focused on this race Lopez on Spain Antonia Lopez they're all giving the camera a bit of a friendly wave now or something more inventive Jovie of France 342 11 on paper that's the fastest in this heat that baby was in local in Belgium this year Thomas Kean alongside him European under-18 3000 meter champion bobbin from real finalists last year in Tampere in Finland and Alexander Chomsky there on the outside those who's just inside three minutes 50 this year yes in fact it was Rick van real his younger brother by two eighteen months who was running in the first heat and who qualified could be the bomb real brothers contesting the final as we get underway Joby over France battling for space with the Dutchman [Music] but is it all check athlete on the inside Antonia Lopez I'm Spain on the outside they won the and the 23 gold medal with bomb tears in the air black [Applause] looks like he's smiling enjoying himself out there coming through with three laps to go 45 74 at this stage thomas keen on the outside did wonder whether we had to see him in the 1500 or the 3000 meters so tightly packed there at the front so bomb real and Gervais are the two athletes with lifetime bests beginning with 342 the two fastest if king closely behind three 4397 billing as though there may be a few slight drops of rain coming down in the stadium who says ten stably Sluka of Germany looking powerful looking strong there on the outside [Applause] two laps to go 65 second lap there so not too many cards being shown to their opposition all a little bit cager here trying to get inside that first of all exactly the same 800 meter split to the hundredths as the first heat so tough to separate them across the two heats not least on the track as we see it now Lopez of Spain for real the Dutchman now shoulders shoulder does look as though it's quickening up now with 500 metres to go which the acceleration started a lot earlier than in the first heat [Applause] get ready to light a match this will be a burn up over the last 400 Lopes on the inside as you work unreal trying to follow brother Rick through check athlete little bit boxed on the inside just going to be patient gotta stay calm all my goodness we've got a follower there Thomas Kean since it's strange its but it's more than 2 seconds quicker than the first heat Keane getting straight back up and fighting to get off his back he would really make it though the German now on the outside Sluka said he was looking strong with a couple of laps to go unreal looks like he's saved something but the home straight burst for to go through automatically running right out into Lane 3 selling the Turk appearing as if from nowhere as Luca beginning to tire now fun real likewise but is he just gonna hold on the Portuguese athlete finishing past also 3 49.0 - that was a little bit of a messy race Keane having fallen over comes home just crossing the line there [Music] Selleck I'll turkey be interesting to know where he was with 400 meters to go so I didn't see Sully coming through quite as quickly as that although is a good runner yes a 344 runner this year have a look the Keen there that's tragedy for the Rinne takes down one other person and also the check impeded as well that changes the whole complexion of this race and it will change the completion of the final but celli left everybody for dare did that run for the line the diminutive turk out in lane three took his chance i'm just wondering whether there's going to be protests over that the you often is when these fallers like to have another look at that incident but for the moment it's Selleck taking the victory set the portuguese athlete finished fast it's a lifetime best three forty nine forty six so i known as the fastest in this field but it does mean going to the computer that he takes that last qualifying spots let's have a look at it again watching carefully here with keen just brushing up against the czech athlete well is anyone at fault there I don't think anyone's at fault but I think there's a legitimate protest from the French and possibly the Czechs I think the Czechs can say that their athlete was impeded and then I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Frenchman being put through to the final as a thirteenth finalist it has happened plenty of times before in that sort of situation and I think that might be fair and of course the Frenchman Gervaise was the fastest man in this field surveys did finish picked himself up at the off the ground and finished in 353 but I'm sure the the French will be looking at perhaps protesting about it [Music] well there's the 12 finalists and curtisha who got through as a non automatic qualifier was also heavily impeded didn't go down but certainly lost quite a few yards on the main pack [Music] we'll see how this pans out and we'll give you all the news as we hear it I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the French make a protest and there is plenty president for putting impeded athletes through to the final in those sorts of circumstances so the high jump really the only name that we need to worry about in certain respects is mochi she's a 2 meter jumper she's such an outstanding athlete she won the European under-18 s last year when we're in your went over to Tampere when the world under-20 title as the rupee very useful jumpers in there as well you have to go a long way back some alecky well some alecky hasn't been in the quite the same form that took her to the silver medal in Tampere behind the who chief last year nevertheless very good jumper as well yeah she's also been participating in the Fox am Swedish gone free series a couple of times this year where she's faced the likes of young curse arming the popular Swede that we saw well with my chick having jumped two meters Muse on whether she can beat the championship record which stands at 195 who've also got the chaplain going on as well so javelin you just saw the lineups there so we've got the first of two groups starting running now and then the second group coming up at 16:30 in 1836 30 local time here in borås we are of course on Central European Time here this first group includes Alina Zingo the very good free-throw ER the only thrower over 61 metres this year's that gone out to 6148 we're going to focus our attention on some semi finals in the 100 meters now firstly the women followed by the men and we'll bring you up to date with the javelin as it progresses and the women's high jump has a long way to go so this is the women's semi-final in Manuela alia was such a convincing winner in her heat this morning are you best of eleven fifty first three through to the final tomorrow and the two fastest non automatic qualifiers but a Leo well she'd have also taken note of demi Banda vildan Berg's very very good runner in her heat also under eleven sixty this year is prep ins of Germany and Stefanovich of Poland [Music] there's the complete lineup mr. finna goes in Lane three London Wilden Berg for Lu five and preppin six so this is Chiara gallery of Italy who got through as a non fastest automatic qualifier reporter delighted response this is gal Cadman of Israel very good Magdalena Stefanovich she actually even ran 10:47 last year Demi van de ville de Burgh a very quick Dutch sprinter a little bit like Daphne skippers you might say the Manuela a Leo McKenney bunch of very good sprinters who she will be looking up to Talia prep burns wasn't completely convincing in her heat this morning I have to say Cynthia Riddler perhaps one of the outsiders to qualify for the final [Music] and on the outside in Lane eight Bob darker takács we're looking at a Leo around 10:15 Tucson earlier this year he's had a whole series of races in the United States didn't actually win the European the England Championships but nevertheless really rounding into form now yeah Amy hunt winning those and she's decided to focus on the 200 meters so as they settle down Galla Cadman Stefanovich from the buildin burg lu prep ins ber enla and takács well van de ville de Burgh had a flying start there Stefanovich working well we're now getting into a running is a Leo and prep ins as well Thunder vilgum burg drifting back but it's a Leo who comes through Stefan a holds her form and take second wasn't the best of starts from a Leo but a terrific pickup and from 30 meters she was flying step in a 1164 to get through in second place so good run there well right on the outside we'll look at that again Bob dark attic hatch and if that's Koresh who Tkach would have taken a big chunk off her personal best and prep ins gets through for fourth we did see van de ville de Burgh go backwards over the second half of that race after that terrific start so Lu doing very well at this stage now really getting into running challenge two lanes to her inside best in at vinovich Tkach did get up indeed it was a blanket finish for 3rd 4th 5th and 6th we were watching a Leo and Stefan a so Tkach gets through to the final but nice were there for maleo yet the California State University student le you stephannie and tech outs world takács just to hundreds outside her personal best in cooling conditions it has to be said prep ins and rain low renin are getting a personal best of 1171 will keep an eye on whether they can get through as non automatic qualifiers Amanda vildan Berg hugely disappointing run over the second half the race just wondering whether she tweaked something coming through in eighth place just inside 12 seconds for the highly rated Dutch woman so that's what the runners in the next semi-final have got to aim for Ali really making a statement though there this is Frick home in the high jump got over 165 now attempting 170 for the first time high jump Oh nice jump there from trickle back to daylight although she did clip the bar with her heels automatic qualifying height in the high jump 183 I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see magic come through until well into one 70s she usually comes in a 185 in international competitions [Music] Jurgens so they're all jumpier 170 which is in every case quite shut a long way adrift to their personal best the audience has a personal best of 186 [Applause] [Applause] so input from a coach Jessica Kihara I won ninety jumper at Baskar Hara on those people who could potentially challenge for medal and just showed their how and why [Music] so Kihara makes it look very easy but probably have afforded to wait out a couple of heights but it may be wise because I'm just wondering whether the rain is going to fall yeah quite possibly [Music] to the javelin a shot took men on Turkey will get this underway so throwing parallel with the home straights the wind fluctuated quite considerably this morning [Music] took men lifetime best of 52 51 52 meters in fact the automatic qualifying standard or else of either top 12 going through to the final [Applause] so high jump and javelin underway on the field over to the second semi-final then of the women's 100 meters now how do you separate this one how do you find three women who are going to qualify through to the final two-time qualifiers will join them so we start off with the Jumbo gorilla Ireland on the inside world on a 20 silver medalist in the relay on that national junior record along with the Kiera Neville Molly Scott and Gina play Moses bunting of Switzerland 1180 this year so the outside chance of making it through their own best way national under-20 record eleven point four three and round one to make it through Shemp of germany 1164 this year Fontana was the fastest are coming into this competition but the best ways since changed that all about this and 11.37 for the 16 year old and Katia sido national under-18 best in ran one young blue Inga lifetime best of 11 60s and then miss can I had a great start but just fade a little in the second half of her heat the world under 18 champion in 2017 Sato was absolutely delighted when she crossed the line in her heat and just right she really shot onto the scene as a 14 year old she broke Daphne shivers age group 60 meter Dutch record very exciting Talent jumbo gula manting best way team Fontana Sado rim Linga and I the second semi-final of the women's 100 metres once again I were the good start so so Remlinger alongside her watch out for best way with that new lifetime best gym trying to come through so to sido and Fontana as well close finish that one 11.40 another really strong performance as the camera focuses on Sato she did indeed get it and Victoria Fontana has a responded to those running faster than her in the heat she won a national under-20 record of eleven point four two for Italy and best way of Spain makes it as that third also qualify through to the final what we said this one would be tight she is one of those who will wait for the official results to come up to see if she has made it we've impressed you the most dear film well easy choice said oh of course didn't have the best of stars Fontana came through well I was in a qualifying position for probably about 70 meters before drifting back over the final 30 meters pursue a very very ragged running style but still pretty effective she covers the ground quickly but sido it's going to be an interesting matchup in the final between her an ally oh of Great Britain well there we go 11.40 the official time national under-20 record that's have been equal by Fontana best way and who has also had a very solid competition thus far Shemp indeed does make it along with I through to the final of the women's 100 here we are well hard to pick contenders out of this field just what is sido capable of [Applause] that was a tight semi-final a quick semi-final Ally you in the other stuff Annabeth's perhaps more to come from them also [Music] so this is Stas sister sick of Slovenia it's best of just over 51 meters just shy of the automatic qualifying mark but a good throw indeed from the Slovenian 52 meters required might be close to a personal best 51:56 her best 51 16 so exactly 40 meters 40 centimeters shy of her personal best have nevertheless a very good stoke throw to start proceedings from the eighteen-year-old Slovenian [Applause] and now it's the turn of Julia Aldrich now she's one of the very good throws in this competition through 64-61 recently well over the automatic qualifying distance so Ulrich can put a track suit on and just watch the rest of the throwers again I think that's quite close for personal bad no that is a personal best 55 55 for all bridge but now she's realized it all smiles braids twirling in the air here nice throw indeed from all bridge takes us up a few places on the European 2019 list as well she was in 8th place at the start of this competition probably gone up two places so in addition to the javelin we've got the women's high jump going on the women's high jumpers got a long way to go so this is karolina visco visco very creditable international record number four on this year's European list and that's another throw over the automatic qualifying distance probably not quite as far as Aldrich's not to personal best but this go finish fourth of the world under-20s and indeed took the silver medal at this competition in Grosseto remember visca celebrating wildly it was only 16 at the time and got a very very memorable silver medal so this is the best woman in Europe this year Zeng go of Greece no not quite on this occasion [Music] is through over 61 meters in that meeting that we've talked about quite a lot in Haller on the first of June so she's used to international competition at this level 5021 with 52 meters as the automatic qualifying mark well there have been about 14 women over 52 meters this year in Europe so I think she will take a few more throws that's by no means are not a guarantee that she'll get through [Music] Gyrich of serbia personal best just below the automatic qualifying mark a meter and a half below it where are the short comparatively after those great throws we've just seen from Albrecht and visca [Music] so 47 79 for the Serbian courage through a personal best in the Balkan Championships recently as we now see Leone troika just short of the automatic qualifying distance [Music] foger has the best of 57:12 [Music] 50:57 for troika Mackay haver of Belarus like Ieva back in 2017 was 6th in the world under 18 championships [Music] well deceptively fast he was rather slow on the runner but just gets the right angle on the javelin and it's art its way over 51 meters Mackey haver at best 57 12 throw up produce the effort on home soil in Minsk not so long ago one of two very good Bella Russians and so early finished second at the Belarusian under-20 Championships so now we start the second round of throws we've had three women though over the qualifying distance of 52 meters this is Ezra Turkmen the terminal has thrown over 52 meters this year certain 17 years of age 2002 birthday so she'll actually be eligible to compete again in Tallinn in two years time 48 52 for the Turk sous-sous dosage of Slovenia well she was quite close to that automatic qualifying mark with the first attempt it was 40 centimeters short of a personal best no not as good as her first round throw [Applause] sister cinch was ninth last year of the world under-20 championships [Music] not very happy with that throw she was a lot more pleased with her first effort so her this stays at 51 16 October of Czech Republic [Music] 51:28 er best [Music] [Music] [Music] shy of the 52 meters lines probably around 50 meters well 48 97 so her best remains 4908 [Music] men's 100-meter semi-finals due to get underway in about five minutes time three semi finals in this instance as we look at but here watching over she's attempting one meter 78 has cleared 186 this year [Music] well drag their bar down the Russian competing as an authorized neutral athlete [Music] touching over one of three Russians in this woman's high jump qualifying Val Tannen rather disappointing 4637 in her first round that's much better that's a lot better for the pin you might have expected it given their javelin throwing tradition well over fifty two meters for var turnin 5321 so there's twenty centimeters short of a personal best which dates back to years she was a terrific under eighteen athlete but has struggled with injuries over the last two years but that's to come back to form for bar turnin and our first sight of Yaroslava mayorchik come in rather below what she usually does [Music] very very effective but remember last week it was Ukraine's New Year Levchenko who won the competition there in Avila banks of height I think that'll have scared the Wits out of every other high jumper that was a very very effective first competitive jump here in borås for one of the most overwhelming favorites here so Yaroslava magic [Music] another of the Russian trio in this competition Adelina calico like her compatriots jumping as an authorized neutral athlete [Music] rattles it with our ankles but gets over acts of daylight between the torso in the bar 186 her best [Music] so sendou slightly disappointing 50 22 for the Greek who leads the European under-21 team this year no problems there that's well over 52 meters and she becomes I think the 6th automatic qualifier just look at the powered which Jeff Rose really pushes through the length of javelin it's such a difficult technique to master transferring all that energy from the speed that you built up on the runway it's a national under-18 best as well 53:17 the saying goes the only troika what can she do actually seen a compatriot Julie Albrecht go over the qualifiers and she follows suits she was close with her first to ten to fifty 57 now that wasn't the pic come out to you technique I think she does though just tripped up over 53:27 in fact she's the sixth automatic qualifier so now we have the men's 100-meter semifinals three semi finals so the qualifying conditions just the first two in each of the semi-finals and the first two non fastest of automatic qualifiers so here Robert Christian Brianna who improved in his heat to 10:47 that was his personal best [Music] Gina van beek 1064 performer at best there's Chad Miller who sped to 10:43 when winning in Mannheim just a few weeks ago phase this man Simone wolf [Applause] the compact Frenchman I'm not a VM or more to the south to prove to 10:47 this year ruslan kiss lick Russian competing as an authorized neutral athlete and on the outside VASIMR could think this is the toughest of the three semi-finals you've got six men inside 10:50 on personal bests compared to three in the both the second and third semi-finals spot-on analysis from Alex only two men to go through and six into two is going to be some fairly tough division [Music] so they settled from the inside it's Liana over Rumania Van Vleck Netherlands Miller Great Britain Wolfe Germany Priam France who Sal Turkey his Lich Russia authorized neutral athlete and mokosh of Ukraine well it's my couch on the outside who's away quicker now they tall German starting to eat up the ground Miller police hey don't hit a hard way but he comes through to take take the win oh he struggled over the first hundred meters but then went through the gears and managed to pull away he looks like the German wolf who will have got second who was running alongside him yes wolf 10:53 so those are the two automatic qualifiers from this very tough semi-final briam gets a personal best of ten 65-53 [Applause] so Priam gets a personal best yeah once he gets into top speed though Chad Miller very impressive not too dissimilar to Shamar baldasar two hundred meters at the end of twenty threes they're also a great two hundred runner focusing on the shorter sprint here and wolf one of a number of really fast Germans I tell you what they're going to have an incredible relay quartet you'll see why in a few moments time when you see Cotter bar and answer pepero in the remaining seventies Thank You Burton I've got a pretty sharp quartet as well as always with Britain although their baton passing has improved in recent years you do sometimes wonder what they're going to bring to the track but confirmation Chad Miller 10:47 Simone wolf 1053 same time as I'm Eric free amber Priam just run out despite that personal best the Frenchman will just have to wait and see whether he gets through to the finals one of the two fastest non automatic qualifiers yes opposed you could say he did the best he could to what he needed to do and we'll wait and see after three semi finals how things shape up cook tava well she's not likely to get through to the final unless she improves by a meter or so Oh suddenly she digs deep and send it sends him flying over 52 meters [Applause] so does she get the white flag that's the all-important question [Applause] yes she does personal best of 50 to 69 Fork October excellent robe for the young check so talk to her answer over a meter to a personal best and what a time to do it to ensure her place in the final [Music] number of delighted javelin throwers in quick succession just a reminder we have the second qualifying group coming up at 6:30 that's 1830 local time just about 45 minutes from now we now have seven women in this group over the automatic qualifier so it's gonna be tough for anybody who's not thrown over 52 meters it's not gonna be many spaces available in the final for non automatic qualifiers well the javelin throw concluded a moment ago that was cocked over with a recorded throw all British leads the way we'd 5555 that massive throw from the German personal best for her and then you had visca troika of Altona and Zengo also qualifying with person personal best for Turk men sorry not turn men and cocked over getting over through as well Mackey hey Bert so seven women in that group that's correct yeah so the second group coming up in 50 minutes time sorry just a bit of misinformation there you were seeing Zeng go with that national under-18 best well obviously that's not not right because she's thrown over 61 meters this year I was wondering about that I was slightly distracted about that truck charm over the Russian no so catch on over in difficulty here [Applause] semi-final number two of the men's 100 meters well I thought the first one might be the toughest wait and see when it can it of Spain here 1054 this year yo man of Romania his PB 1070 actually most his men have set their peepees in 2019 lifted the pole alongside then Lucas and sir Petra part of the world under 24 by 100 meter relay protect the olive on pedal every side or Estonia one of two Italian that Lorenzo's this 100 me the competition he's the junior champion leaving he said it left shortfalls altitude Toby you're in family three Brits across the semi and then Samuel Portola European Indoor semi-finalists and Grosseto under-20 silver medalist over 100 and bronze medalist over 200 really putting Finland on the map in sprinting terms which isn't often the case he's not too far off Tommy Harlan's 2001 national record of 10.2 one so first two only going through automatically and then two-time qualifiers cannet bribe inflictor answer Petra site PI Sun organ kami and parola so watch out for answer pepper the tour figure in the center hi Sam the Italian going well lifter of Poland coming through very flows on the line there to dip from lifter and also pie stand by my money it's those two plus answer pepero will have a chance of making it through ice and does take the win ahead of lifter the two who time their finishes particularly well and then yes indeed answer pepero but only those top two getting automatic spots through to the final that's tough on the german came through fast towards the finish hi Sam second in the European rankings this level has to be said a rather disappointing run from parola there he so much was expected of him yes he's not at his best this year I think it's fair to say that real breakthrough in 2017 but delight porkpie son of Italy only Jeremiah soo [Music] has run faster of course at junior level this year there's so many sprinters from around the world though that although Python is the second of the 20 in Europe I think he's 36th overall in the world soap lifter with that PB ten point four six makes it and we've still got one semi-final to come yes as we look heard Mary chick she flew over 178 and a two metre jumper should have no problems with 181 and she didn't that was just wonderful smooth technique to watch she just got so much athletic ability as well well there were 14 jumpers over 178 so they have decided to raise the bar to eliminate two more jumpers [Music] now calloc over the Russia cheese nicely over over one meter eighty-eight jumper at best [Music] yeah the neutral athlete is one of all with perfect records at this stage in the high jump so your guns and the journey is nicely over as well live in new Jurgen z-- of 186 jumper so she's doing well at the moment Higgins got a bronze medal at the world under-18 championships two years ago is one of the youngest women in the field Jessica Carter just crush through that she has cleared one meter 87 ok says personal best there are 190 I have to say I'm struggling to find that result Zito goossens the Belgian got a clear record Farah 181 for the Belgian [Music] Goossens went to the world under-20 championships last year in Tompa ray didn't make the final on that occasion fair chance of doing so this time around so her first fate here in this competition flawless record up to now spyridon over another of the Russians seen watching over eliminated which is a bit of a surprise but spirit and over very effective very quick on the runner she answered a guest say almost certainly qualifying for women now over one meter 81 as we look at the third and final semi-final of the men's 100 meters at the moment in the hot seat from the previous semi-final is answer pepero and foot ala of Finland 1048 1052 for those two men so if you don't get in the first two can you run faster than those times [Music] Tobias Larsson 1065 for the Dane this year [Applause] Hanuman a has improved this year to 1056 man who I have a tilt are getting in the final our new mum this is jeremiah zu fastest man in Europe this year with at 10:27 he ran in Mannheim recently and a very very impressive heat winner as well a skin Satya skin the Turk Samuel Ceccarelli has also improved this year to 1058 summers nimac my beam contention if you can run at ease best and the man who I'd say alongside a zoo you'd look at on paper and say should be the man who gets to the final Nick Kosovar [Music] [Applause] course of our faith in his last major competition the 2017 world under 18 Championships so from the inside as they settle into their blocks it's Larsen of Denmark Marie of Island mum of Spain a zoo Great Britain asking turkey Ceccarelli Italy nimesh Czech Republic and costs of our of Germany a zoo away very well so to Kosovar on the outside in Lane eight so it's looking to be between the German and the Britain at the moment as uno edges sifrin running very well also Mun the Spaniard in lanes free he came up really well over the final 30 meters fastest heat so far 1037 so very very convincing win in cooling conditions 1037 for our zoo Mon makes it to the final with a personal best of 10:45 slicing account Kosovar well Kosovar i make it just squeaks into the final along with these compatriot and sir pepra but there's no doubt at all and I think we've got a very clear favor for the men's 100 meters and he's name is Jeremiah Zoo and he was telling the camera don't forget as zoo don't forget the name he had doing a tunnel vision sign he was doing a DJ sign but they were all singing to his tune in this third of the semi-finals they were chasing him Monet that an excellent job of doing so with that new lifetime best as you said at 10:45 so two asking of Turkey who looks like he's just going to miss out also a PB 10:53 confirmation at home but there's the results of this specific semi vinyl as who am on a get through as a right personal best for the Spaniard in second Kosovar it is confirmed we'll go through as a non automatic qualifier at 10:52 a skin looks like he's missing out but 1053 personal best so lots of credit to the turk there for coming here and really really doing very very well indeed confirmation of the men that go through to the semi-finals should say the final and indeed it's Lucas answer pepero who joins his teammate Nick Kosovar as the two non automatic qualifiers but Jeremiah's who look terrific and even easing down 10:37 without much trouble to be honest [Applause] so those finals take place tomorrow evening so the evening session on day one here from Bordeaux in the European under 26 wonder how they're getting on in the hi John here we are so Jessica kajada thanks hi toh 178 made a little bit more hard work over 180 one but hugely talented seventeen-year-old fin turns 18 in two weeks time nicely done as I said personal bests on screen says one meter ninety but can't find a performance anywhere notice done at least 187 so there's mixture of nationalities Germans Lithuanians watching Zito Goossens she's over I once again Nagy is in his three centimeters short of her personal best the Belgium nicely done Ferguson's here just look at that cold stare at that up at the bar and hope that it would stay up it did indeed do so checks and Latvians you can tell from the inscriptions on their track suits and sweatshirts [Music] so good good crowd here this evening this is PA Tony her second attempt to 181 oh she gets it right nice jump there from the Italian no fear only that equals a personal best so I think that's gonna be good enough to get it through to the final which you might not have expected ocelots key [Music] Slovenia she's over the bar I've lost count I think that's eight women now over one meter eighty-one by my reckoning by the way Jessica kajada cleared 190 in Kuopio indoors that might be wise this is some early key second last year at the world under-20s nine quite as good form but that was a useful jump and so she's over 181 I don't think the bar is going to need to go up to 183 which is the automatic qualifying height so I think she's number nine yeah that was a national junior record that left he set in Tampere last year the same occasion where two randa who won that gold medal did the same 192 it was a terrific competition and just shows what can happen in a high jump when you get into a rhythm and the competition is strong around you up to the next height keep going and the challenge remains as we look yes is the track first round of the women's 1500 meters just a recap very quickly on the high jump 9 / 181 5 women having third attempts at 1 meter 81 so the first round of the 1500 meters and the name to pick out is the woman on the outside Delia she clobbers well she won the 3000 meters two years ago as a 17 year old also the very good Irish woman in this loaded heat Sara Healy although this for to go through automatically and for to go through as non automatic qualifiers so for the like of Healy and SH glob ass is just going to be a case of conserving energy ahead of perhaps getting through to the final so two heats Healy terrific performances at the European under-18 s last year in your went to the 1500 meters and 3,000 double following in the footsteps of schlaf ass who done that two years before in 2016 in Tbilisi in addition to spa bus and Healy perhaps the standout performers are sonica of Poland and cannon or Great Britain Northern Ireland so we mentioned four of the runners in this final before that we'd pick out possibly to make it through the others include Abbess of Netherlands Discoverer of Slovakia Chatard of Franz Keefer Luxembourg angle seat of Norway second French gentleman full chittim of France and that's your are the Frenchwoman getting to the front pretty decent pace from the looks of things we'll give you some splits at 400 and 800 meters [Applause] sometimes we see fairy sedentary middle distance races but no hanging around here I think this is good tactic from Girard as well she's got an outside chance of getting through but if you keep it quick even if you drift out of the top four you've got a fighting chance of making it through as a non automatic qualifier so good tactics from Sharad often see people unwilling to take up the pace and basically leaving it down to the sprinters yeah we've seen that in a few particularly the 1,500 meter races thus far you said this was a loaded heat you weren't lying at all Havas incredible quality so one 11:05 for the first 400 meters now it's Sara Healy to the four no problems picking out Healy with that all green attire she clobbers just staying out of trouble just tracking a resource grab us get through comfortably in the 800 meters heats this morning just taking it very easy and just drifting through in second place to qualify with the ease to Frenchwoman Chatard and on just behind the leaders the two class acts on paper and the rest all bunch behind them Pali Canon at the back bouncing lane to staying out of trouble and cannon very good runner indeed as well four women have run under for 20 in this field that includes cannon who's now starting to move up in lane three but this is still being led by Sara Healy Sara Healy leads the European list this year and she's still only 18 years of age has run for 12 this year her 409 25 came last year in Germany around 412 and a very good European athletics permit meeting in Marseille it's been a fantastic array of distances healy european standard across the distances from 800 up to 3000 as they hear the bell going through in unofficially around 316 they went through 800 in 221 so we keep an eye on those marks especially for the second heat so to our bass actually ran in the heat of the senior European Championships in Berlin last year and at the World Junior Championships took a brace of bronze medals over 800 and 1500 meters against the very best from the rest of the world so coming through now around the outside sonica we just under 200 meters to go and Helias she's done over the last 600 meters still just taking it out Wow bass doesn't look too tired after this morningbut sonechka coming around the long way around falter on having a very good run hanim struggling cannon looking very Laden but it looks like it's the pole Sun echo who comes through to take the win Eenie second class third falter on 4th they look like the four women who go through automatically but a good good race I think she's laid down a bit of marker there soneca that she's got a good finish now of course we do expect the final to be significantly quicker Sarah Haley could ever possibly even run it as a Time Trial and it would be doubtful that even Sklar Bass can follow her that sonica if it is a tactical race might still have something to say about where the medals go nice run there from the pole with a very very tired [Music] better nice vulture on picking up that fourth automatic qualifying place as the rest battle for the normal automatic qualifying spots sonica doesn't look too out of breath either she's run for 1707 so that made a third in this race on paper behind the two big guns if you like of Sara Healy and Delia Schwab ass so Olivia Saturn ecchi takes the win in front of Sara Healy and Elliot grab-ass and better nice folder on full Kurama gets fourth place Keefer of Luxembourg has to wait and see whether she gets through as a non automatic qualifier good finish as well from Keefer yeah Sara Healy Delius flowers to women who have done the double at the European under-18 Championships slap-ass did it in 2016 1,500 and 3,000 meter gold Healy followed that up last year in Hungary so star cover the young Czech high jumper very very promising talent very quick on the runner bags of height the erratic technically I've actually seen her in action a few times she was competing indoors this year at the famous banská Bystrica high jump competition so she's a 181 with a third attempt yes there in the end so that's 10 over 181 so this is funny your TIA dossie 183 our best so she's been over this high in the past oh that was painful we were good 50 meters away well she's pleased I think we can say that I think she started screaming before she'd even touch the mat at a yachty Dulce makes it 11 women over this height so these are all the qualifiers 11 women over 181 you've seen every single one of the clearances no problems for Kali Cobra and Matt Mero cheek clean slate and scraping through to the final into Ukraine's Elena Zamir clean slave up to 178 but didn't get over 181 but having a flawless record up to 178 means she progresses and these are the people who didn't get through and to be honest not too many people who would say it was a surprise to see them knocked out just all a fluke on the Swedish high jumper they're one of the three 15 year olds at these championships the youngest athlete is who shocked the Ukrainian race walker 15 years and 261 days we I think see her arms today is it and the race walk take place and of course race walks at under-20 level take place on the track in the stadium last week at the under-23 s it was over 10 kilometers 20 kilometers I should say on the roads around yeah blur looking at the contenders there as they just start to get ready tracksuits unzips mens long jump qualify [Music] [Music] looking at end of Slovakia McKenzie of Great Britain just keeping an eye on the men's 1,500 meters earlier which we saw a faller Thomas keen also j'avais of France there's been no change of that results as it stands on the computer but we'll keep you up-to-date talking of 1500 let's take a look at this second for the women then top - of Turkey that's a great name the Cardo of Portugal alongside 7th of the world and 20s in Tampere last year full of 10 at best so one of the strongest overall butts flab are some Healy I think you have to pick out because they are top 2 on PBS there is Aaron Wallis very talented triathletes as well the Commonwealth Youth champion back in 2017 and Dawn of Belgium here on the inside first ball going through automatically like we saw a moment ago and then fall based on time qualifiers so underweight kasnia of poland was their VP on the inside but swallowed up the cardo and topped us leading out this stroll I think you'd have to say it's bad [Music] so for 2608 at the moment gets you through that's the time of harvest the Dutch woman who finished eighth in the first teats they went through in 61 seconds through 400 meters incidentally a few moments ago still topped at the Cardo you've got the German house door on the inside Mendy haver the neutral athlete on the outside 80 seconds sorry it was 71 seconds in the first seat obviously and 80 yes [Music] [Music] [Applause] yes so Mikado at the front Aaron Wallis and Gosselin Vint of Switzerland so the athlete from Great Britain then the Swiss Mikado Portugal before ten runner at best so plenty of quality in her shoes Mendy aber the neutral athletes still just on the shoulder just behind the leaders well this is going to be tough potentially on whoever finishes fifth and sixth particularly [Music] still keeping it steady for the moment Aaron Wallis just shading in the tall bigger the Scottish athletes second at the World Triathlon grand final the Gold Coast last September in the Junior race the Cardo of Portugal has had a finalist last year in Finland at the world under-20s top - on a Riggle her way through the center not finding much space at this point one lap to go still biding their time now visibly beginning to move quicker [Music] van Doorn dropping off the back having tried to push the pace a little earlier on top - now taking the lead Aaron Wallis staying composed in the center likewise Mikado on the outside still no clear top for athletes no clear leader at all Mariana Mercado of Portugal now a meter or two behind Wallis in second place the Polish athlete Kasmir Scott beginning to feature they're running for breaths down this home straight top - wanna squeeze her way through working her arms hard is Mikado Wallace what has she got in terms of final gear likewise Casimir suka looks like these will be the top for the Germany is finishing quickly but not fast enough so it's Mikado top tasks as Mishka and Wallace making it through eventually well even as they came through towards the finish pace didn't increase dramatically for 27.1 for in the end that's good very very Illinois frankly their coaches should have told them to go a lot faster over the opening parts the race I can confirm that the winning time in this heat was slower than the eighth place in the first heat so these women just the first four to go through and I would have liked to have seen the lights of hausdorff and binned in particular actually be a little bit more courageous in the early parts of the race yes hausdorff had a bit of a sprint finish really it was so slow over those opening opening laps that they gave themselves no chance they're all slower than ninth place indeed from the first feet for that win for Portugal's Mariana [Music] and there is the confirmed results in terms of who makes it through to the final led by sandecker Healy sklavos and those absolutely all three of those will be medal contenders all have really good versatility as well interesting to see how doubling up might affect Julius glass but a phenomenal runner one of the top medal hopes for the Swiss we were speaking to the guys on the Swiss Federation here making content and they really singled her out as one to watch the Geraldine Brooks shawl and Jayson Joseph fulfilled their potential at the under-23 s and they have Teflon and sprint hurdles respectively so we'll see House Clavis goes on here as she attends that 800 and 1500 meter double about an hour's action still remaining the men's long jump to qualifying groups about to get underway very shortly followed by the fourth discipline in the heptathlon today that's the 200 meters and we finish off proceedings with the men's 3,000 meters and we actually have two heats of that event but we also are going to have the women's javelin second qualifying group 52 meters the automatic qualifying distance and just as a reminder seven women got over that distance in the first heat just about an hour ago some good throwers though in that second javelin group [Music] second traveling group where you saw the lineup there includes Alexandra Kanchana of Belarus who stands second on this year's European under-21 almost 69 metres back in February so we don't really know much about her current form but machi ava also came here and through very impressively in the first heat the Belarusians generally well their throws are good of course you just need to think back to the 2016 European Athletics Championships which were won by Tatiana colada you see the women's javelin throwers there's the men's long jumpers just stripping off and getting ready for their particular qualifier no finals today on this the first day but they're going to come thick and fast during the course in the next three days 44 gold medals to be decided here in borås over the course of Friday Saturday and Sunday so to the men's long jump flatness of Norway here lifetime best this year of 765 in Oslo is also in 1535 triple jumper and best [Music] long way behind the board he was a good 10 centimeters before even the woodwork 693 in the opening round poor flock nurse the qualifying standard is 755 the best 12 performers 70 76 this year for us Mandy of Hungary wasn't able to reach the final the world under-20s in finland last year TV in his country's capital Budapest in 2019 it's also a 10.67 100 meter runner and a 210 high jumper they should just about be reaching peak form by the time the world championships are in Budapest in 2023 [Applause] so here is the Hungarian you can see not too far back from that qualifying mark on the board beside the pits a second pit is alongside once again way back from the pasta scene touch better to be that side of it though of course he will get the measurement in 730 capable of more quite a shave closer to his lifetime best had he been closer on the board woopsy with effectively the same name as the Latvian 200 meter gold medalist the female sprinter Scindia book sir who won gold at the European under 23 s that was with a K absolutely it was andreas Samuel Luke sure this is 795 this year the athlete who won the bronze medal at the world under-18 championships in 2017 well once again way back from the board wonder whether they've all chosen to start their run ups from a certain point and whether that's having effect I doubt it it's more of a coincidence now you can have to restrain me because I'm almost jumping out of my seat ready for the next event in this heptathlon Kate O'Connor leading the way by just 31 points but with the wind in her sails and Maya Scott new lifetime best in the shop book Holly Mills Wharf the leader after one event after two events and then a disappointing shot book for her I've seen the Briton slip back so we have the first of three 200-meter races in the heptathlon to bring this 7 event discipline to a close at the end of the first day usually is the women who are not quite as quick who go in the first of the heats and then it gets progressively faster and faster so as we scan across just looking at the lights of Matilda rain as Jeanette henskee and very good shot put so did it see blur it's not so quick over 200 meters so give you the full lineup from the inside Stephanie Gannon of France Johanna Siebler of Germany Jeanette Han ski Finland Mathilde ray of Switzerland Clara Robbo who we saw go well in the high jump Swedish athletes is in Lane five Amaya Scott very Britain six Amanda serviço Latvia seven and on the outside a second British athlete Olivia Dobson number of these girls have run inside 26 seconds but this year on time the fastest is Dobson on the outside at 2605 and their away running well at this way stage it's a Vika Dobson looking as though she's having all sorts of problems in the middle as well coming well it's clad yo Brad fo rather and on the inside Janine naturally streaking away she's doing very well so she ran a very good Bend and second off the race well Scott came through well that'll progress her points tally she's like second overall after three events but Jeanine who's the best sprinter in that race on career standings of 25 77 25 21 a big personal best for her and Scott as well personal bests all down the line Jeanine Scott savvy Corrado all personal best for the top three women home 25 25 good run and Jeanine and that all goes well for the races coming up delight for Amaya Scott Olivia Dobson looks as though she's struggling there although she's run 2605 so far this season as the French streets away and some good running from Sevilla and Scots on the outside it's not terribly refined the sprinting technique of daphne ganene but it's effective but of importance at the far end at Meijer Scott with that 2558 adding 830 boyle points to a total takes her along to a running total of three thousand four hundred and forty three points keep an eye on that one and Siebler as well gets a good total three thousand two hundred and ninety three points for her yeah Amaya Scott was second overall coming in by virtue of that excellent shot Burt throat and we'll see how O'Connor bills and Vicente and others to Steven McKenzie in the long jump so the two groups going alongside one another this is the first round for Mackenzie [Music] seven meters 59 this year better on the board and some of the others we've seen absolutely no question of that 726 so third in this group and indeed third overall also [Applause] we saw the jumper book sir which is the best thus far has Mandy the second-best and Mackenzie as I said the third so we've seen the top three behind that one centimeter back Marco Seco of Croatia seven meters 25 1 centimeter less than Mackenzie this is the new DAF of Belarus so accelerating down the runway hoping to hit the boards not that close that qualified mark that's reflected on the expression one or two Belarusian jumpers here capable of 740 at best this year 693 so a solid start but you feel he will need to improve in order to qualify well if you're ready I'm ready let's have this second heat of the women's heptathlon 200 meters just gave a tutor of lithuania in lane seven Shifa incidentally of germany is a dns in Lane eight [Applause] Louisa Carson lifetime best in every single hope tap long event this year La Bam of Ukraine alongside her clever Chava after Czech Republic Schiller of Austria Bielek over Ukraine fantastic technique in the high jump earlier on and Tim eNOS of France so the fastest athletes to come as Phil said a little while ago two of these that we see here have our own sub 25 seconds in their lifetime kabocha ver of the czech republic who's in lane four and just kept a tutor of lift-away Nia in Lane seven there she is nearest the camera on the outside so Tim eNOS Billick Shula watch over Alabama Carlsen just kept a tutor shipper unfortunately the DNS there is Yulia LaVon of Ukraine focused and ready to begin good start by terminus on the inside all about the time getting maximum points there watch over just edging it coming into the home straight teman s ran a good Bend and now chasing the check out leak down eyes on the clock then 24 76 there's seasons best that should lift the check athletes up a couple of places in the standings chatter disappointing 157 high jump which didn't help her cause the second blows raspberry that we've seen following the race on these challenges but I love the fact that the microphones I write down their trackside to pick up all these little reactions even though some of them may be fairly high-pitched but we're not measuring decibels we're measuring meters and seconds with all those horse he knows noises I suppose you could say she's galloping her way to victory yes but only on day one here consistency across all seven events so important it's a learning process at under-20 level also some of these women haven't competed in that many heptathlon in their lifetimes let's not forget that kid watch over 912 points she earns for that twenty four seventy three time very very interesting to see how they go in the 200 Kate O'Connor fantastic so far Holly Mills has to recover from the disappointing shotput Maria Vicente you'd have to say she's in a similar boat so get Lee to be as a personal best 52 93 so is thrown over the automatic qualifying distance this year and she's done it again that looks like it's a personal best doesn't show much emotion takes a lot to exciting Estonian as we know two days of your Hannah's erm last week going through all sorts of barriers so 53 83 and all he gets he's a little little one smile nevertheless that's a pretty good throw from deadly to key [Applause] high time we headed back to the long jump Lincoln of Germany which reasonably pleased with that first round efforts bit of room there to spare 7:55 automatic qualifying 750 so that is the furthest so far very very solid from the German in round one so now the third and final heptathlon 200 meters heat on the outside the event leader with that gold bib Cato Connor who's had a terrific first day personal best in the high jump 181 not the quickest of two hundred meter runners 2488 is women are a fair bit quicker than the her just looking at maria vicente and it kallen the second in the standings at the moment Kalin the very good swiss at elite kindest turin over the russian shopping over down in 13th at the moment and mad eval well mara valleys are very good 200 meter runner not a good throw though so she's down in 18th at the moment for the fastest woman in this field and the only ones who have gone under 24 seconds this year you can see her in shot alongside o'connor is maria vicente well know the Spaniard is down in fifth at the moment and I think she'd have been expecting to be a couple of places higher no really bad events she just hasn't really sparkled and we've seen a host of personal bests from some of the other athletes shot she was a bit down so it's Maribel Mills tripping over kind Callan Vicente an O'Conner Vicente starting to make up a bit of ground also running well is Mills as we'd expect Mills a very good sprinter who sent a away at the moment leading but Mills flooring back the deficit matter fell on the inside running well at the moment so this pioneered bouncing back oh it's good that equals her personal best Vicente so after some light loss revenge she's finished the day with a flourish and it's adjusted to 2376 personal bears marry val takes just over a tenth of her best and 2406 Mills just two-tenths outside of it so crude points from all three women home things are so close in the standings Phil overall that I make that 2376 worth a thousand and four points from really at the sent a that could put her in the lead from Holly meals by just two points and then O'Connor into third twenty two points behind the overall lead now by Maria Vicente she needed to bounce back so did Holly Mills they both went out pretty hard in that 200 meters determined to call back the advantage that they'd lost that's also a personal best for a corner down in fifth place that 2482 takes six hundredths off her best and is worth 903 points for a terrific run from maria vicente 2376 by far and away the fastest of these women Merivale this was her showcase event and she sparkled - a personal best of 2406 also a pee-pee though from o'connor 24.8 - so with this not necessarily being one of her stronger events it does still keep the 18 year old in a great position the irish senior national record holder or goes very well for o'connor back to the long jump as manny we saw him jump 7:30 that's a little bit closer this time to the 755 follow five standards once again a long long way behind the ball hood it is 7 centimeters closer so another decent jump and that is the fourth furthest that we've seen thus far should be enough to qualify lawdness Norway can he get over 7 meters Wow terrific job looks like it gets the white flag as well again far far better on the plasticine which matches the colors on his KITT 746 for the Norwegian big big improvement in the second round of this competition here [Music] books of Romania world under 18 bronze medalist 795 his farthest when they could jump we saw his 735 earlier 749 so there's only six centimeters off booking an automatic place in that final it's worth the third jump you would think that's the stand where the athletes are all gathered from the various nations so margarita sakala as a personal best just over 52 meters the automatic qualifying distance that falls just short about 51 meters 51:33 for Sue Carla well with eight we mean over the automatic qualifying distance that gets her into a position as a non automatic qualifier for the final now federico bata oh that was quick on the snap there nicely over 52 meters for bata thrown over 55 meters this year [Applause] she's the second-string Italian behind currently Nabisco who we saw in action in the first group and comfortably throw over 53 meters so bata gets herself into the final with that nice throw over 52 meters so two Italians already confirmed in the final four in the second round of the long jump at the moment just over seven meters is needed to qualify on marine one of those looking to improve it's a fantastic job great speed here just look at his energy so raring to go dive through execute that jump into the sandpit seven meters 53 no automatic qualifiers so far but pas Maria France is just two centimeters off so at the moment the top 12 is backed up by a SHINee knee in 12th place of Great Britain seven meters and six another Frenchman this is Tom Campania lifetime best of 780 in Toulouse this year and followers the teammates producing the goods [Music] so Group A and B going alongside each other the Belarusian in the background in the other group cam Vanya 734 so that lifts him up over all into seventh place out of 12 of course all beginning to get pretty condensed talking of which so the women's heptathlon that's the results of the third heat no less than four personal bests setting that race maria vicente leading them home in 2376 for personal best for mara Val Colleen and O'Connor and Callan O'Connor as well as Vicente very much in contention for medals and so after four events at the end of the first day Maria Vicente shoots to the top of the table 3565 points just two in front of Holly Mills and 22 in front of Kate O'Connor Anna Callen drops down to fourth but she's only 59 points away from top spot and a Maya Scott as well 122 nothing in it really then a bit of a gap to Lovisa Carlsen in sixth place with 3311 there's the rest of the competitors well trubin over has a good second day was most quite a lot of points on and off during the course of the four events today we're expecting truven over to be much closer to the top 10 than that there's the rest of standings we've lost jo-ann Schaefer but still 22 women in this competition yeah and there's not that much separating them on long jump lifetime best Holly Mills 651 647 for Vicente so that's about 13 points between them Kate O'Connor that's one of her weaker events but she's got an incredible javelin throw national under-23 record holder 4946 all still to come it's going to be thrilling fear of Switzerland in the long jump now the big improvements in the second round here we're back from the board good final phase of that jump to strain to get every centimeter out of is waiting for this measurement to come up then on the screen at 7:52 the series thus far hi-five coaching staff Avram Iancu of Ukraine just outside the top 12 and would like to learn better than that does get the white flag [Music] yes Oh in 13th overall just one centimeter of Alessandro Giannini seven meters and six continuing the ukrainian color theme in his shoes 693 there's one place you don't want to be it's 13th spot overall of Germany one of those who if you didn't have this third round effort still be fairly confident of going through but of course in the final and have another set of three throws at least so worth building the confidence through the series as well as making absolutely sure sites himself up speed down the runway thinking of Germany don't think that's gonna be any better than the 750 who's already managed but he gets the white flag 7:17 port lincoln silver furthest so far past mandy of hungry who's our only automatic qualifier yeah so this in fact just a moment ago while we were watching the German straining to hang in the air for as long as possible Mandy fills his spots and he's the only one over 755 thus everyone else yet to have their third go but one other has finishes competition Fabio pagan of Italy he's just the 11th place inside that top 12 it's gonna be pretty tight so coming towards the end of the first day's action here in borås hope you enjoyed these European under 27 ships thus far as we get ready for the final action on track of the date the men's 3,000 meters so two heats of the men's 3,000 meters the longest event or at least the longest running events we have the 10,000 meters walk coming up later on in the championships and these 3,000 meter men well trying to get through to the final Saturday 10 men in this race first four to go through to the final including and also for non automatic qualifiers 11 men in the second heat coming up a little bit later [Music] yeah the very good poll says our neck run eight 1218 this year says real neck the fastest European over seven a half laps of the track 20 champion as well as bombing four medals here he's probably going to be bombing four medals at the European cross-country championship later on in the year this time around in Lisbon and we're looking at max Hayden as well max Hayden the Briton best of just outside 8:14 pavements made a big improvement this year so as they go to their marks should wait for the guns ago just ten men in the field I can give you a rundown quite comfortably we also have Carly of Austria Whitfield second britain in this race an act an of turkey rim of germany Reaver of italy McEvoy of island bamm-bamm turret of netherlands and top and rude of the netherlands [Applause] oka Carly decided to take it out this is wretchedly slow nothing more to say Benedicta let's see six seconds there or there about four 200 meters yes I think we could concentrate on the women's javelin for a few minutes so Patterson and Norway [Music] [Applause] just dropping shine what a disappointment for pettersen pettersen big expectations over 56 metres so 49:13 just trying to work out where 12 places at the moment no 51 meters 51 16 is going to get you into the final so Petterson who's one of the better throws this year and through earlier in the euro 56 metres cheese out that's probably the big surprise in this competition we go all the other big guns through the Pettis Ernie is eliminated [Applause] [Applause] well this is really rather sad entry I think is the word once again I mean just to repeat what I said earlier in the 1500 meter heat I'm a little bit surprised that some of the other runners who are not amongst the better runners don't take this out at a faster pace and give them a fighting chance of getting through as a non automatic qualifier you've got to have a bit of courage from bravery unless you know that you're actually a very good sprinter so 49 96 for the Germans so far all that's a good throw from having Richter that's a personal best for sure she's the third stream German in this competition I've seen all Richard Troy go go over 52 meters big personal best for half an Rickster 52 52 for her that's over a metre improvement for the German an inch three Germans now in the final all with automatic qualifiers so now got ten automatic qualifiers out of the two groups still few more throwers in that second group [Applause] yes there's three more throwers to go in that second group well it's just speeded up a little bit [Applause] well kulusuk last throes to go just shy of 52 meters but it's better than a previous effort she came into this third round with the best of 4930 looks over 50 meters indeed it is 50 57 for kulusuk a bit disappointed and that may just be good enough to see her through [Music] it's two more throwers left to go in this group view of the javelin now Kanchana the Belarusian 49 97 in the second round [Music] she's another one that's going to be eliminated who would probably have been looking at the final from Sheena best of 58 meters where we saw one of her earlier throws that was quite disappointing so the good Belarusian is eliminated she's the big-name to go out along with Petterson from Norway well the first thousand meters was three oh five oh one and the way that they're going it's going to be another twenty seconds or so before they passed the 2000 meter mark well at the moment obviously it's going to speed up that's almost inevitable over the last lap well I was a bit quicker at 6:03 [Applause] so they went 258 for that last kilometer and the Mac tano's just injected a little bit of pace followed by Hayden rude he's on the outside in third place at the moment [Music] often rude with the 2002 birthday eligible to compete at these championships again in two years time when we'll be off to the Estonian capital Tallinn tall Dutchman probably tallest man in this field and fourth place at the moments Qatar Lee up in the front says he's been through most of this race but a mac-10 now they'll come around the bend and see one lap to go so 500 meters to go in this 3000 meter race it's picked up over the last lap it was just dreadfully slow over the first 2,000 meters this has just turned into attacks per 1000 meter race basically nobody [Music] now as you can imagine the Hammers gone down my mac-10 the Turks still leading the way only one man adrift everybody else still in contention says Roenick as you might imagine up there wearing the sunglasses but is kuqali at the front now useful turn of speed from the Austrian has the best of eight 21:45 Aiden sprinting Walker bruises come through very well a mac-10 and the pole is the fastest man in Europe this yeah or at least the fastest man in this field he's struggling badly so it was kuqali rude Hayden and I think the back time the Turcotte the fourth automatic qualifying place for Carly 834 64 well it did all speed up over the final kilometer and hurt the Dutch friend I thought it was rude our mac-10 gets through Hayden also gets through their third and fourth McEvoy came through very strongly to take the fifth and final automatic qualifying spot I have all been dawdling around the back for much of the race and at one point I thought it's just about to get detached about 600 metres to go and they've got his second wind and Caterham very strongly [Music] it was difficult to see but in fact it was the other Dutchman in the race for [Music] van debt second-place chasing down quarterly but it's clear that says Olynyk is not in great shape and this is manager on a twelve this year leads the rankings of the men who are here sokka curly confirmed 834 64 for bandit Hayden and a Mactan also going through as does McEvoy so they're on air just has to wait and see whether he squeezes in so does Wickford but now the men in the second heat know what they have to do and some of those runners who've got personal bests around the 825 8:30 mark well they might fancy their chances of just picking up the pace making a long run for home make you an honest race [Music] so I bring you up to date with what's happening and has happened in the long jump this evening session on day two comes to close I say evening sessions because just as it always is in Swedish summer time some long time to get to up boss here we go Alberto mein coat last time we saw him he was in 13th place overall it's well going through not too bad on the board but is that going to be enough improvement seven meters and twelve and that does put him in 12th place crucial [Music] Bennett winkin 750 thus far in the first round pretty comfortable let's see whether he can improve though does look like a good jump just the one automatic qualifier has and ii of hungary 761 improved with each jump pretty much perfect on the board there from thinking does look confident technique looks good so does the distance 757 to over that standard that was set before the competition started here so we'll see the confirm results in a few minutes but extraordinary that that last round job with a bromine co 712 compares to 7-eleven in 13th place so this is the summary of the qualifiers there was no improvement by the people who were throwing after bata so consequently the qualifiers are led by that personal best from Julia Albert at 55 55 we had 10 women over the qualifying standard sue Carla also squeaked through to the final as a non automatic qualifier from Group E as did sister sick of Slovenia from Group A that's a certain she was one of the surprises not getting beyond 52 meters as we now switch back to the track yes the second heat of the men's 3,000 meters big burrows mural in the background this is Baptiste Google of France 8:12 this year the European under-18 champion in the 2000 meter steeplechase alongside him yeah check the Polish Junior 5000 meter champion 8:15 this year Cavalia of Italy the last of each as we scroll through effectively Tremmel the German under-20 Indoor champion and west of Great Britain just three track races this year coming into this championships all in the 3,000 meters top 5 going through automatically and have been a movement a little bit of tension on the start line will this one be just as kg as some of the earlier middle distance races that we've seen [Music] so looking at result briefly from heat number one kuqali the Austrian eight thirty four point six four and the time in tenth place benedict bream of Germany eight fifty one point three one we'll keep an eye on the split times also but do y'all certainly one of those you'd expect to qualify with that eight twelve lifetime best really standing out among this field it's the tall Dutchman hoping to follow was teammate Verve and debt through your bents that is eight nineteen point two six this year lifetime bests also the 800 and 1500 meters the app check red and white of Poland and then been West Great Britain and Northern Ireland also got extremel in a decent position on the inside boo-yan completing the top five just at this stage so the last action on the track as part of this second session of the European under-21 Gothenburg camera goes into focus the athletes full of focus determination concentration coming through with six laps to go now so next time around we'll see what the 1k split is it was three minutes and five in the first heats six minutes and three and a second this just looks a bit quicker and a bit better than the first heat in terms of time and I think that's very sensible leading the way the Dutchman that really puts him in a good position if he just printed then at least he's got a fighting chance of getting through there's a non automatic qualifier [Music] is that so wide tactics forum bends as they come round well I think they're going to be about 10 seconds quicker than the first heat let's slow down a little bit at this stage the years they go through the line in two 5343 wow so best party 12 seconds faster fence first name yours rather than Mercedes the tall Dutchman they're Google now beginning to just move through a little get himself into the best possible position to really strike last a couple of laps maybe leave it down to their home strangers so many of these middle distance races have done so the Italian really tucked in there possibly fighting for a bit of room is Alan curve on yeah I'm just looking at this race the men with personal bests of eight twenty and perhaps a bit slower well they just need to just keep this tempo high and just get the sense that it's just rocked a bit on that last lap so the lights of a morel and goo yawn well goo yum doesn't need to worry too much he's very quick but now it's just rocked down to a very sedentary pace and bents is one of the quicker men and he's got a good sprint finish but some of the others just need to pick it up and make sure that they're still running at around ten seconds faster than that first team which is well within their capabilities that's not going to be too painful just cranking out a time that's going to take them around in let's just say two to 55 for the next kilometer so 65535 555 553 well within every single man's capabilities in this field but they're just getting very slow very bunched and in addition to possibly taking themselves out of convention who's every chance that they're going to start ripping up over each other yeah there was a bit of that in the men's 1,500 meters earlier on well the last lap they came through in four minutes and three after that 253 first kilometer so it was a 70 second lap [Music] doyeong my fault and west so another 70 second lap there Maya is just trying to pick up the pace and nudge things along a little bit yeah only slightly the Dutchman bents now right at the back of this pack I'm starting to pick up the tempo a bit after a couple of slow laps when I thought they were dawdling and I was a bit surprised that they weren't carrying on the work that they've done in the first kilometer Cavani are still being squeezed a little bit as we see a bit of a breakaway albeit of what eight nine athletes the tall Serbian weak working his way around the outside that's Milazzo it was 547 through that second kilometer so good 16 and seconds faster than the first race yeah so they slowed even more over that second kilometer it's just chopping and changing at the moment we are check the polish athlete polish jr. 5000 meter champion 8 minutes 15 this year 812 we goo yon light on the inside Cavalia seems very comfortable in what could potentially be a tricky position but the shortest way around [Applause] [Music] so once again it's going to be heartbreak you'd think for the athletes finishing in sixth and seventh positions the app check doing his best not to be there an iPhone I think they've got every chance all the non automatic qualifiers are going through from this heat it's well at 2,000 meters it was 16 seconds quicker than the first heat but there's bit of pushing and shoving as they hear the belt yoku you're using his elbows there scramble fighting on the outside [Music] so yes these nine athletes would well all go through now beginning to really spread out on this last lap 250 meters to go scramble leading the way the German under-20 Indoor champion 818 this year my fault on his outside that's it's the tall Serbian minnows melissa [Applause] [Music] the less of it 8:19 this year leading the way down the homestretch Breville trying to find another gear the Ukrainian finishing fast krokov etske and he's going to take the second heat back of Etsy Melissa Trammell who yan and my fault [Music] so the time coming up eight twenty three point three seven in certain of the Czech Republic that is confirmed as the official time so coming up with a small Q next to his name we'll wrap that all up in a moment's time Ben West also 8:26 the time for him there was a bit of pushing and shoving between Milosevic and Myo and the whole year sick but I think that he very much the quicker of the two heats I think all 10 men who finished will get through the only man we've lost I think is the check at picking up the rear yes indeed I think the 10th man Benz who we saw so much up during the early part of the race was actually faster than the winner from the first heat [Music] indeed so crack of etske a twenty three point three seven that winning time for him big queues along with less of extremel gu yong and michael the last action on track of the day Cabana at West V at check a morale and Vince also making it through to the men's 3,000 meter final [Music] so confirmation of those who will line up laps on the track we've lost one or two big names or expected finalists and medal contenders and we lost one from this particular event as we'll see in a moment as the screen turns over Sara neck of Poland is out this is out and he's the fastest man in this field it was the fastest of the competitors the 21 men who went into the heats of the 3,000 meters so that final 1635 local time on Saturday evening the men's 3,000 meters these are the men qualifying through to the long jump final led by coach Mandi of Hungary 761 thinkin of Germany the other automatic qualifier but as you can see the far less distance was needed in the end and as the result turns over you can see just how little separated them for men and four centimeters between them seven 12 in 7-eleven out [Music] [Music] so that brings to a conclusion the first day here at the 2019 European Athletics European under 22 in ships well we hope you've enjoyed the first day we've got an action-packed second day with plenty of finals to come this first day well it's been really a set of qualifying competitions but tomorrow we're gonna be having some gold medals decided in the morning we get underway at 9:15 with the first qualifying group in the men's discus and we also overlap with the heptathlon by having the decathlon tomorrow we have the first five disciplines in the decathlon so the morning it's all qualifying Zoar that we've got some interesting hurdles semi finals the men's 110 meters hurdles and the first round of the women's 400 meters hurdles includes the morning just before two o'clock and then in the evening well you can see there whole set of finals the long jump men's final gets underway at 1705 and we've just seen the qualifying so I'm sure there'll be quite a lot of names to remember their men's and women's 100 metres finals well that's going to be quite some races Jeremias ooh a clear favorite in the men's 100 meters but perhaps well no clear favorite in the women's 100 meters Emanuela as you well she's the slight favorite in the women's 100 meter so it could we'll be a British double in the 100 meters but it's time to say good night from myself Phil Mitchell and alongside me lxf Dale join us tomorrow morning for the best of the second day of the European Athletics under-20 championships [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
