[Music] [Music] welcome to the european team championship super league coming to you from this wonderful polish city of big gosh as you can see this is a bright and beautiful friday evening we're on day one of three days here in poland at the citizens floor krasowski stadium otherwise known and you'll probably hear me saying it for ease there's a visa stadium here in the north of big gosh well big gosh has hosted many sporting events particularly athletics events over the course of the last two or three decades most recently we were here two years ago for the european athletics under 23 championships and many of the people who are competing here on this famous blue track are back here in action trying to support their national teams trying to win the european team championships title and also there's going to be a big relegation battle because this year five teams are being relegated ahead of the next championships in 2021 there's the weather forecast a possibility of some showers later on but it is beautiful weather at the moment 26 degrees and frankly barely a cloud overhead and this weekend well we've got some excellent weather coming up as well so we're hoping for some thrilling performances fast times long throws big jumps everything you could want for from a top-class continental athletics meeting and the very first title video to be decided there's going to be 40 events contributing points which we'll go through over the course of the next three hours is going to be the women's discus alongside me i have my co-commentator you've heard her before michelle samuel good afternoon hello nice to be back yes always welcome well i'll take everybody through the discus in the meantime and we've got plenty of time to talk about it but uh what are you looking forward to over the course of this weekend and i know you're looking forward in particular given your particular interest looking at germany the reigning champions i was going to say i mean of course um i've been doing what everyone's been doing and adding up the points but actually i've left other people adding up the points but it's going to be a very tight battle between us of course the germans and the hosts the polish team because the polls really have brought the best of the best here because they really want to get their title back from the germans well it's going to be a german favorite who takes part in this very first event claudine vitter well she's thrown 66-64 this year she leads the european rankings uh even throwing even better than the renowned sander perkovic who's going to actually be throwing in the second league which are invarsion indeed we have four leagues going on almost simultaneously this is natalia semenova the ukraine thrower well interestingly she was here when the european cup when it was in its former format was here back in 2004 37 years of age not quite throwing at the best this is one woman who's quite impressive davia sukko world student games champion aliska stancover from the czech republic seven times czech champion just seeing their claudia vita well the european leader she should be in excellent form melania robert michonne again 40 years of age somebody who competed here in 2004 and robert michonne the defending a champion in this particular event kirsty law well multiple scottish champion the 32 year old from great britain northern ireland vanessa kanga well on the one of the previous european athletics under live streams she was in action at the european under 23 championships just missing out on a medal finland salah three times the finnish champion chris deltano one of the youngest competitors in this field at 22 years of age and a big cheer for the host nations daria zabowska 2017 european under 23 silver medalist greece well they've got a great battle to actually stay in this top flight of team competition but we have here installer 12th thrower to be presented to the crowd is june quintana of spain spanish champion two years ago [Music] and we can see they're already on the track the four hurdles are being set up as well so that's first up once these ladies get underway yeah so it's going to be seminova the first athlete in action here across these three days of competition someone over quite near the illustrious record she was actually the european junior champion as it was back in 2001 so she's been competing at an international level for almost two decades well the wind conditions here there is a slight breeze just trying to assess what direction it's going in because potentially if it's quartering breeze we could see quite a few throws over 60 meters and just to explain the special format of the european team championships well of course all 12 throwers do have three attempts each and then the top four in reverse order come up a little bit later when the spotlight is on them and it's 12 points for the winner of each individual event 11 10 9 and so on [Music] [Music] a good stone throat to start with there from seven over she's still throwing over 60 meters at 39 37 years of age and once again the ukraine champion took a european championships bronze medal in 2012 potentially the highlight should we say of her senior career and i think it's interesting there as well because obviously it's about team point so it's good that she gets a good like straight away on the board yes 55 30 for seven over to get things underway ukraine possibly one of those teams that'll end up in the middle of the table they can't afford to drop too many points or they could get lured into the relegation battle we don't necessarily see them challenging for the top three though and there we can already see lining up in the first track event off the night the men's 400 meter hurdles two heats we will have there we are on the outside lane in lane seven for spain sergio fernandes spanish record holder won a european silver medal in amsterdam for ukraine dennis nechoporenko 29 years of age for switzerland danny brandt [Music] all my european under 23 the silver medalist and there we have four great britain in northern ireland chris mcallister in lane four in lane three from france ludwig vale finished fourth last year in berlin at the european championships and in lane two alessandro sibilio who is a very accomplished relay runner for the italians so just to quickly reiterate from the inside out italy with sibilio into france with bayonne three mcallister for brandon five neche parencho in six and fernandez in seven this is the first of two fine air set heats with the final taking place tomorrow three fastest will go through plus the two fastest combined from the two heats [Music] there we go swiss brand looking good in on the inside there the french athlete beyond in lane 3 as well so those two are currently leading the stagger of course can be a bit deceptive but if you pay attention to when they are clearing the hurdles there you can see in lane 3 [Music] already made up a lot of the stagger there and he's going to be the one to enter the home straight first over that hurdle and now it's just down two more hurdles to go and this is when the lactic kicks in so it's about staying nice and tidy there and he's still looking very strongly they're strong coming through for spain as well fernandez taking that second spot in there it looks like chris mcallister for great britain in northern ireland has come through to get that third automatic qualification spot and um it looks like the swiss will have to wait there whether they can get through on times but it's ludwig vale for france who takes it time confirmed there are 49.88 for the frenchman which looked very comfortable there i believe [Music] so recap of the race and brands starting very quickly by on hurley murray cleanly only second at the french championships just a few weeks ago but clearly rounding into form looks as though he's going to be doha bound pick it up coming off the last bend the eighth hurdle and brown at this stage up on the shoulder of brown two lanes on his inside striding away over the final 50 meters not that far outside of his season's best so a good run for bayern possibly go into tomorrow's final looking to improve on his 49-35 recently just flipping a couple of hurdles over the second half of the race but comes through very strongly to put down a very good marker for the final and i was really impressed with sergio fernandes there in second how he came through if you look where he is there at this point um and then looked really comfortable there at the end as he clears that last barrier looks across and sees he's actually doing pretty alright and secures that second automatic qualifier yes fernando it's not quite in the same form that took him to european championship silver medal back in 2016 but still running comfortably at around the 52nd mark he hasn't actually run that much this year as well only three races for him and given it's fairly late in the season already he has had a number of injury problems last year really struggled to show his best form last year so we're looking at kirsty law going into the discus circle the briton [Music] yeah just to recap we're skipping forward a few throws but uh robert michaud and france just thrown over to 60 meters to take the lead at this very early stage in the competition 60 61 for the french woman and three meters better than law's ever thrown in alive tidy throw just edging inside the sector so gore gets a white flag looks as though it's pretty close to her personal best more well going back to 2012 57.79 for her name 57 66 just a little bit earlier this season see the 50 meter mark there and there's also a 60 meter mark out there so 54.78 a decent start for law perhaps the pre-event favorites has gone into the circle as well 5702 for the german at this stage there we have the results for that first heat in the men's 400 meter hurdles france there with the lead in that race 49 88 for ludwig we move along quickly to the second of these two heats just a reminder the first three in each of the two heats and the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers that'll go through to tomorrow's final on the outside inevitably going to get a big cheer patrick dobeck fastest man in this competition both on season's best and personal best he's running 48.99 recently [Music] without ever really taking one of the top prizes other than being the european under 23 winner back in 2015 finnish record holder oscar model added to his list of national titles last month hamper's big number two swede this year seeing carl bankster running the flat 400 meters also very confident 110 meters based in america for much of the year and salisbury university in maryland [Music] and costadine as knackos [Applause] european team championships two years ago when we were in leo reigning czech champion so just lanes two to seven being used and from the inside it's muller czech republic nacos greece campbell germany vidlan sweden morrow finland and dobbek of poland [Music] and it's campbell who's come out running very hard at this stage also running well on the outside in lens seven but campbell eating up the ground around the first bend and really starting to motor along the back straight campbell closing down on morrow two lanes on his outside also doing well at this stage dobak very experienced hurdler despite the pole only being 25 years of age something to prove he took the bronze at the world student games but i think he was a little bit disappointed with that so for just two flights to go it's dobbett now edging in the front camel's starting to tire as we see muller come through on the inside tomorrow also starting to work really well but it's poland czech republic and germany that's the one two three automatic qualifiers just to note that the race was a little faster than the first heat and currently in the two fastest spots we have danny brand of switzerland and alessandro sibilio of italy with 50 41 and 50 76 so these are the times we have to remember and have to see there we have the replay of the race here campbell is still looking quite good on the outside dobeg already leading but this is where then campbell starts to tire and miller on the inside is actually coming through looking a lot better there than the german and finland's oskari murrow they're also coming closely to the german campbell they're trying to get one of those final spots it's interesting there look his necklace on dobek's ear got caught and i always wonder about this with our athletes might not be irritated by various types of jewelry i don't know how you feel about it but personally i'd always strip off anything i mean i know there's a few people who like lucky charms and so forth but i'd always leave rings and necklaces in the uh in the kit bag not that you're wearing any right now that is interesting it really got caught there but looking really good there as well like long stride towards the end well season's best is the only man in this competition who's gone under 49 seconds this year so there we have it confirmation and indeed a season's best for dubai 48-80 not very far from his personal best muller second 49-62 campbell 49-94 those three men go under 50 seconds and are confirmed in tomorrow's final and here we have the full qualifiers and as we can see there murrow in that with that final search he produced there in the second he'd actually got one of those time qualifiers as did danny brandt in the first race for switzerland so those are the finalists tomorrow [Music] so into the discus circle it's greece's historic [Music] just drops rather short of the 50 meter mark he's thrown at best 61-53 two years ago i should be a bit disappointed with that you can see the grimace on her face well 56.80 better than it looked a little bit difficult to tell we do have the sun shining right away is very bright on the infield now june quintana normally would be expecting to see the spanish number one in there sandra ascension for quintana been brought in quick across the circle just under 50 meters there so should be looking to improve on that as she brings the first round to the close 24 year old has been in action predominantly in domestic competitions did finish fourth recently well two years ago at the european under 23 championship so has some international experience 48-29 so that leaves her in 11th place at the moment she'll be looking for throw substantially over 50 meters this is a repeat from earlier for the benefit of many polish viewers [Music] dropping down midway between those 50 and 60 meter lines that are marked out and there you can see 56.82 this first round still being led by molina michelro [Music] robert michonne and we can already see there the women's four hurdlers are lining up action rolling in thick and fast a lot of heat's taking place tonight in the sprints and this is the first heat of this women's 400 meter hurdles two names there maybe to point out and we'll take a closer look at them in a minute is in lane two suzanna hayne of our two-time world champion for the czech republic and then in lane five megan beasley for great britain in northern ireland of course ailey doyle has won this title three times but she's just announced this week she's pregnant and is expecting a baby in january so great to see that megan who had such a fantastic year last year at the european championships in berlin and won a medal there and get the call up for this here's the lineup czech republic on the inside with suzanna haynovar joanna lien kuvitz for poland anna kyafa megan beasley aurelie shabudi and hannah palmquist but i'm sure we'll get the full race introductions very shortly [Music] and the angle you can see there is actually a camera we can see from our commentator position quite well that goes across the entire field here we have in lane seven for sweden hannah palmquist 23 years old [Applause] lane six for france the former youth olympic champion and heptath lead aurelie [Applause] lane five megan beasley for great britain northern ireland already mentioned won a bronze medal in berlin last year at the european championships lane four for greece anna kiafa reigning greek champion they've just had their national championships not very long ago [Applause] for poland in lane three juana linkivitz won silva in 2016 in amsterdam at the european championships on the inside in lane two was initially down for the 400 flat and there's been a last minute change or spot with lada vondreva making sure that they will secure maximum points hopefully in this event suzanna hinova for the czech republic so quickly from the inside out hey nova czech republic linkivitz poland chiafa greece beasley great britain shabu de france and palmquist sweden so [Music] they're beasley already looking good in lane five made up quite some ground janelyn spinker of poland also looking good but beasley looking really strong there as she's overtaken two women from france and sweden on the outside [Applause] megan beasley very strong coming on the home straight here and on the inside as expected susanna heineva but really clips that hurdle there the check and a big draw from the polish crowd here as len cubits also comes through very strongly but hey nova takes it in 55-81 poland in second and megan beasley in third well not too much problem there for susannah he's never as you'd expect from a two-time world champion the check really stamping her authority in this race and still keeping plenty in reserve for sunday's final hedge number leads the european rankings with 54 11 from her running lasanna at the iwf grand prix meeting and she really doesn't need to do too much she ran a tactically very skew race and she knows you've got the flat speed just to come through to take linkovich and beasley i think the margin of victory there was very deceptive i think that looks like a much more confident run than you might imagine just look at the expression on a face not really working too hard and has the luxury of just being able to glance on her inside see where everybody is and keep plenty in reserve for the rest of this european team championships and i'm sure we're going to see her in the 4x400 meters relay as well but her clipping that hurdle there might be exactly what you were saying earlier in that because it was so relaxed that's when you start to lose concentration a bit and you could tell that actually yeah it looked it didn't look as straining as the 400 hurdles might be for the rest of us yes and of course at full pedals you've got your strides and an athlete of hanover's talent has really got her strides nailed down but when she's just relaxing and just working away yes of course uh perhaps relaxing just a little bit and your stride can just get out but never really in much trouble absolutely not as switch our attention to the second heat well if hanover was number one in europe we now have number two and three in europe and well this is vanessa camgo just nipping into the circle before you turn our attention to the women's 400 meters rather modest 51-46 in the first round for the swede who just missed out on a medal at the european under-23s in front of a home crowd in yevolor a couple of weeks ago well that looks like a much better throw probably in the region about 54 meters one of the rising talents of european throwing very amiable and affable woman one of the stars of the press conference when we were in sweden three weeks ago well can't go well quite as far as it's perhaps a little bit deceptive 5146 there we have the results of that first heat heinemann with 55 80 and the places to watch are the ones in fourth and fifth because they will be fighting for the qualifying spots for the final with the ladies in the second heat [Music] there is indeed the start list of the second heat it's very very loaded heat indeed and with looking at the women on the first two lanes anna richkova of ukraine is second on the european list this year having run 54-64 and just outsider i o follow run so third on the european list having won the world student games title in napoli just a few weeks ago expect a tight battle by the women in lanes two and three but this is celeste parallelo of spain just 15 years of age is the leading world under 18 athletes at the moment honor inside jackie bauman twice german champion daughter of the 1992 olympic 5000 meter champion dieter bowman this european under 18 champion and indeed talking about prodigious talent still the holder of the world under 18 under 13 best yasmine geiger 2017 european under-20 champion the swiss hurdler this is ayamide voloranso [Music] from the world student games title in napoli now 29 years of age last year's european athletics championship silver medalist when we're in berlin so just a reminder first three as of right to go through two fastest non-automatic qualifiers keeping an eye on the time as well on the outside of the very very talented young selma celeste parallel [Music] hey well there's one who's probably out the quickest also in late two well after a sluggish start coming out of the box rescue has really started fighting bauman also doing well at this stage on the outside in lane six up on the shoulder of celeste parallel and now parallel on the outside starting to fight back oliver and so [Music] also doing well at this stage as they come into the home straight and it's following who's just got a slight lead over baumann marishkova now starting to really work hard entertaining battle down the host right between the ukrainian and the italian and jasmine geiger as bauman goes backwards the swiss athlete yasmin geiger comes through to take third so good win battling win very strong home straight for anarishkova 56.28 for the ukrainian just etching out i don't follow run soft there we have the replay and you can see there follow run so still in the lead at that point but this is now the hurdle where the ukrainian rishikova is coming through and with a long stride just holding off for lauren so they're the world university champion and bauman really as phil already said going backwards there really quite the gap there between the top three and the remaining three so we'll have to take a look at the times and compare them to those of the first heat and see which eight athletes will be going through to tomorrow's final follower already had a lot of races under a belt this year the medical student quite a character quite very popular in the italian team so i'm really looking forward to this final on sunday between hinova rivakova and follow so there we have confirmation of this heat first three home was reishkova folaranso and geiger as you saw all three women under 57 seconds bowman just tiring rather badly down the home straight finishing a rather distant fourth just waiting for confirmation of who will accompany the first three home in the two heats as the two non automatic qualifiers there we have chevrolet and poundquist from the first heat france and sweden go forward but really this is going to look like a battle royal between hanover linkovich rushkova and follow run so megan beasley well she had a good run in the first of these two heats but i do fancy there's plenty left in the tank for ishkava and followers so interesting interesting should we bet get back to that on sunday take notes now put a couple of zlotys on the table each and we're now back in the discus circle with the european leader claudia vita another rather modest throw just over 57 meters to start how they're in second place at the moment [Applause] [Music] he's really risen to the top not just the german but the european standings this year she's made a huge improvement only finished fifth at the german championships last week which was interesting because a lot of the top names seem to be struggling in the discus and she's clearly one of those so 6109 so she takes the lead with a second round effort yes you're right but germans i mean it's so stacked if you look down the european rankings at the moment with the likes of nadine muller and um a whole bunch of very very good very talented german discus throwers so there's daisy asuka [Music] now we were looking at daisy asuka going into the circle but in fact that's alisha stankover [Music] stankover just throwing just over 50 meters the first round of 54 0-0 bringing up today had a foul throw you saw of 6109 was in fact recorded from earlier so we're now in the third round sort of bowled it there never really well probably beach or so short on her second round effort don't think that's any improvement on her 6109 [Music] on the world student game silver medal in napoli we were talking about follow run so of italy in the hurdles well this is another medalist from napoli 59.94 well she'll certainly progress for one more throw but still leads the way with that second round effort and here we see the men's hundred meter sprinters getting ready we've already had a handful of b races earlier for those athletes that are down in either the 200 meters or the relay so they get some runs in but here is now the main heat and we can see the lineup ukraine greece spain sweden france and the czech republic in this first heat and again as in the 400 meter hurdles we will have the three fastest from each heat plus the two fastest time qualifiers going through to tomorrow's final [Music] maybe just quickly worth mentioning earlier in one of the b races christoph le metro won the men's race in 1031 but now focusing on these qualifying heats in lane two there we can see for the ukraine alexander sokolov on the ukrainian indoor title over 60 meters this year just 21 years young in lane three constantinops stay cause for greece he's a finalist at this year's european indoor championships in glasgow and next to him who i'd like to call the kim collins of europe 39 years of age angel david rodriguez for spain and while i mentioned his age at 39 next to him this man henry glasson of sweden just 19 years of age and won the european under 23 title lane six jimmy rico for france co-holder of the european hundred meter record and on the outside czech record holder jan velez so from the inside out sokolov ukraine seacoast greece rodriguez spain larson sweden vico france and velva czech republic three fastest automatically go through and there we can see on the inside sokolov from the ukraine looking good as does jimmy be for france looking very strong the european record holder dominated that race but on the inside 21 year old alexander sokolove also looking good he called pulled out of the french championships finals as a precaution because the weather was poorly but 1007 there with just a little bit of tame wind looks very good in this heat [Music] not exactly the fastest start by jimmy vacuum but he pick up from 30 meters was absolutely outstanding was able to relax over the final five to 10 meters and he still came home in 1007 unofficially which is just 500 away from his season's best he's had all sorts of injuries over the course of the last year or two but at his best it's worth remembering is the co-holder of the european record at 986. and what was really nice there to see was that angel rodriguez was celebrating that third point there clinching his fist because it meant that he had the automatic qualifier spot for the spend yes as you can see there season's best and jimmy because 1007 they're really showing his dominance in this first hit [Music] times to remember 10 51 and 56 for czech republic and sweden for the second heat coming up these guys will have to hold their breath and wait and see whether they've done enough to qualify for the final there we see the little electronic trucks that have become so much part of international athletics meetings bringing back the implements salaziponen well she's kind of way down at the moment she's down in ninth place so she needs to improve by 25 centimeters to get herself into the top eight and she needs to make a much bigger jump forward needs to throw over 57-12 to make it into the top four and qualify for one final throw well that's a good effort from her opponent has a best from last year of 58-36 not as far as that the three-time finish champion just manages to stay in did a little dance around the rim but gets the white flag from the judges by the cage well sepona nearly gets into the top four 56.88 so good points from finland but she's going to miss out on that fourth round there we can see sort of all 12 women doing the permutations what's going to get them into the fourth round so chantal tana lying in 12th at the moment with 47.72 the second round effort tana 22 years of age didn't make the final oh and that's not going to improve her standing so tanner has to settle for 47.72 and switzerland will just take one point from this particular event the rest of the point still to be decided of course switzerland's first time in the super league and they'll be very much fighting not to get relegated but of course up against some very big nations here yes so now [Music] in the last round just two throws to come after her [Music] oh that's so good that's a very long throw indeed that's there all their about compared to a second round effort quick across the circle rangy thrower perhaps not one of the stronger throwers in this competition but launches the implement from a long way back well not quite an improvement 57.50 but she still stays in third place getting good points for the host nation [Music] and there's a good chance very good chance indeed of going through to the fourth round just four throwers to go through and have a fourth effort at the moment ristola angonostopalu is lying in fourth place and just kidding towner of spain to come after her so 57 12 from the last round for the many times greek champion third in this competition might be a slight improvement and certainly you can't falter for willing it through the air she's happy you can tell she thinks he's a good throw her season's best 58-77 [Music] in greece of course also one of those nations who will be battling to stay in this super league well 58-92 a season's best for the greek moves her up into third as well yes so quintana the very last woman to throw in this third round spaniard lying down in 11th place at the moment 50 63 so quintana well she's gonna have to add well over a meter to her personal best to get into the top four if she's to progress any further but of course every point counts well that looks like a best effort of the competition but i don't think it's going to move her up 10th place at the moment is canberra of sweden who we saw a little bit earlier 53-32 in 10th place so rueful look on the face there of kintana just four centimeters shy of her second round effort so she stays in 11th place at the moment and the top four are decided which will be vita robe michonne and gestopolou and zabowska so this is the second round of the men's 100 and meters man to look out for here is out in lane seven the quickly improving italian marcel jacobs [Music] having run a personal best of 1003 recently the italian this is the reigning german champion though michael poll [Applause] on his outside the familiar face of harry potter former world junior champion of this distance 100 meters tremendously of poland [Music] 2017 took medals of both this distance and the 200 meters at the european under 20 championships sylvain chuard swiss under 23 champion last year the man i mentioned lamont marcel jacobs around that 1003 impedia recently fourth on the european list this year [Music] so as they settle into their blocks from the inside in lane two it's paul of germany akin is of great britain olshovsky switzerland on the outside in lane seven jacobs of italy well jacob's away very very quickly indeed so too is the pole in lane four ole now jacobs has the luxury of easing up and paul comes through very strongly in lane two to take second place just give you a confirmation of who got the third automatic qualifying spot with purler the finn pulling up and just jogging his way across the line well good run there from jacobs it's going to be a very intriguing battle between him and jimmy vaku 1009 for the italian but quite a bit more wind in that one the first one was plus zero five and now this one was plus 1.6 but as we could see there both the pole and the italian coming out very strongly and on the inside michelle paul the german champion holding on strongly with harry aquini zariti the team captain for the british team [Applause] making sure that his team gets the spot in the final yes it wasn't a particularly good run really from the britain although he did take third i mean he's coming into this competition with a 1011 clocking to his name so he's the second fastest in his field had a lot of ground to make up over the second half of the race there we have it so indeed it's uh jacobs of italy taking the plaudits in that second heat at 1009 followed home by paul of germany and nikin is irt of great britain and there we have the confirmation for the finalists and we can see the poll oslevsky from that second head made sure that he went through with 1037 and then jan meliba from the first heat for the czech republic also gets a time qualifier spot quite looking forward to that final between biko and jacobs let me switch back to the field confirmation of the current standings going into the fourth and final throw with germany france greece and poland represented in that last round cloudy bitter leading the way with that throw well over 61 meters he has a very good chance of getting the defending champions off to a very good start here in bid gosh 12 points for first place [Music] wrapped crowd here at the cevica stadium norway is very patriotic you can see flags we can see from where we are sitting plenty of polish red hats and t-shirts scarves and i can also see a very large swiss contingent behind the hundred meters start and i'm sure they'll be there cheering on well you were talking yesterday to me and there's a huge enthusiasm for this competition with the swiss let's just switch back though to the discus circle dario zaboska fourth place at the moment looking to don't think that's an improve for her [Music] 58-38 the naked eye that doesn't really look as though it's getting to the 58 meter mark i think she knows it as well you saw the disappointment on her face as she came out of the circle no 56.80 so nine points for poland good points nevertheless and a very consistent series there from her 56 58 57 and 56. another woman with a consistent series to her name it's actually exactly the same in terms of meters ristola and axed apollo agree possibly the noisiest woman in the discus competition now that's a big throw from the green a season's best with a third round effort of 58.92 that looks as it might even be a little bit better on the 60 meter mark just uh maybe 50 centimeters or so shy oh an improvement 5902 but it doesn't move her up but 10 points for greece she'll be pleased with that good improvement melina robert michonne well she won this competition two years ago in front of a home crowd in lille now 40 years of age i don't think she'd object to her being called the evergreen robe and skips and hops away across the circle and that is a very good throw that's over 60 meters again went over 60 meters in the first round with 60 61 i think that's a slight improvement but i'm a guess and say it's not going to dethrone vita from first place nevertheless two throws over 60 meters 60 47 so not quite as far as a first round effort but france finished second and back 11 points well confirmed as the winner claudine vita had a massive throw recently 66 82 let's say 66-64 slightly misreading my notes there top the european rankings that doesn't look like a good throw at all never looked quite right did it goes out of the circle gets the red flag nevertheless germany get off to a fine start here in big gosh with 12 points the defending champions really putting up a strong showing in the very first event can i cheer yet i don't want to jinx it we'll allow you a few little cheers if things go go well for the germans over the course of the next few days like a little cheer jar on the table very much i mean she had fine credentials in junior competition but very much the new face of german discus throwing and we've talked in the past about maddie muller shani's craft and i think that's again showing what the germans are doing right especially in the field events in making sure that the younger athletes are coming through and it's something that mujinga kambunji actually mentioned yesterday in the press conference in how good of a competition the european team championships is especially for up-and-coming athletes because it means they really get to mingle with the seniors they get to have lunches and dinners together they ask their questions and she said for herself it was very important to be part of these kind of competitions and to learn from the older ones and i think claudine vita is one of those athletes who will greatly benefit from being here and to learn from the more experienced athletes in this field and on her team of course you just saw their few shots well this is david zee or sakui but uh we're trying to bring you more details of the mascot we've been caught a bit by surprise by the mascot we thought it was going to be something else trying to yes i mean didn't study anything in the zoological area but it's very very hard to determine what kind of animal it actually is and has he got measles all right we're just making fun of the mascot but certainly it's one of those light-hearted moments during the course of the program shortly coming up the women's hundred meters as well there and the other event to be decided tonight is the men's javelin coming up with some very fine throws indeed that's going to be one of the really good competitions in the field this weekend and would it be uh rude of me to say that the germans are also the great favorites in that event well you do expect the germans to really put up a good showing in the throes there we go confirmation claudine meter winning with 6109 taking maximum points 12 points for the germans as they defend the title that they won two years ago leo good throwing as well for melina robert michonne 6061 and the season's best for the greek for anger stop hollowed just keeping an eye on the flags on the far end of the stadium actually it looks like the wind might have died down a little so almost perfect conditions here there isn't much of a breeze at least up here on the tribune the sun's still out and the crowd is filling up nicely as well so really good conditions on this first night that sees a lot of heat in the track events as we take a look at the first heat in the women's hundred meters there you can see great britain in northern ireland ukraine italy czech republic poland and finland making up this first heat and again the first three in each heat will automatically go through with the two fastest time qualifiers also and there we have a very big start in poland actually eva boulder lining up in lane six there we will get back to the lineup very shortly but a very accomplished athlete still only 22 years younger i feel like she's been around a lot longer but has been very successful on this particular track one european under 20 title here in budgosh and of course very popular with the crowd let's take a look at the full lineup of this first heat of the women's 100 meters in lane two daryl neeta for great britain in northern ireland's been part of a very successful british relay in the past in rio and in london 2017. lane 2 victoria rodney cover only 20 years young so a very young field here with zainab dosso of italy only 19 years of age won the italian title earlier this year clara seidler for the czech republic czech record holder over 60 meters and here is evas for boda the personal best of 11 12. big crowd favorite here in poland and on the outside lane for finland hannah maria 18 times finnish champion across french events 31 years of age so we've got a quite the gap here between the athletes in terms of ages so just to reiterate nata great britain ratnikova ukraine dossier italy sidelover czech republics for boda poland and la villa finland so boda of course already won two european titles this year with the indoor title in glasgow and the under-23 title just a few weeks ago in gabler good start there from daryl neeta on the inside lane we've got a really strongly supervaldo now falling more into the race following up nato there but it looks like the britain is taking that victory with voboda coming through in second 11 19 confirmed there and as we can see yes the wind has died down a little from that previous men's heat as the athletes are re-watching the race on the board well an excellent start from anita she really does get into her running very quickly good pick up and starts to really stride away from srimoda samoda i think aware that she's qualified in the third three without any problems srivoda though on the replay you can see he got absolutely left in the blocks and when you consider that she's the european indoor 60 meters champion from glasgow in march that was a disastrous star had a lot of work to make up but nevertheless in the end neither coming through with a season's best unofficially 11 19 we'll see whether that's adjusted that's not that far away from that time either i'm very hard for third place there between the czech and the italians so very close i can see the results coming up and i think it's the check who gets given the knot here in this case and the italian will have to wait and see whether her time is enough daryl neeta clearly pleased with herself there here we have confirmations of those results and it is indeed salavar who gets the third automatic qualifying spot with josso having to wait and see but season's best there from darren lita and yes she did really look in fine form still only 22 years young as well it looks like one of the athletes stands for the czech team this is a good point just to say a big thank you to european athletics international partners spa leguire and eurovision for their assistance in bringing you this live stream from the european team championship super league here in big gosh and it's not the only live stream that's going to be coming to this summer we of course have live streams coming to you from the first league in san nes and as well next month we are off to minsk the belarusian capital for the match the inaugural european versus usa outdoor jew so i hope you can join us for that well women's second heat they would be just coming out and as we are waiting for them to get ready you mentioned the match there in this competition of course is an important part in the qualifying process for the match because the winners of the event here will automatically get invited and then we're going down further the list and the top four athletes in the european standings will also get invited to the match against the usa cameraman just picking out maria vicente of the spanish team there in the crowd the very very prodigiously talented now european under 20 heptathlon champion i think she's doing the long jump this weekend and speaking of the spanish team i actually bumped into ruth baitia just behind the commentary stand and i think she's here as one of the coaches for the spanish team so it's nice to see that as we mentioned the youngsters really are learning from the more experienced even retired athletes and those accomplished athletes staying in the sport 2016 olympic champion and a fine ambassador for the sport and i'm sure she'll be watching gian basale who's in lane two here although the favorite has to be well it's between france and switzerland the carol zahi frenchman 1101 last year 11 23 this year and the rising swiss talent of salome for uh just briefly toppling very very experienced machine gun jay from the leading swiss position on the inside in lane two we have daniella busk of sweden perhaps one of the slower editors in this competition just recently winning a european under 20 championships bronze medal over 100 meters ahi well 1101 last year winner of this [Music] well i'm intrigued to see how this young woman runs medals at 100 and 200 meters in napoli at the world student games on the outside for germany lisa me so as they settle into their blocks spanish dukaki hatsuriga taking her time to settle the greek second at last year's mediterranean games from the inside sweden betsui spain zahi france does the greeks [Applause] this halfway point it's ahi now really starting to get into her running zahi looking very very accomplished indeed season's best of 11 21 unofficially for the fresh woman pours it on over the second half of the race swanna dukaki hatsurigi doing well to come through in second time adjusted to 1120 for zai there we can see zahi really getting out of the block really well next to besute of spain really found her way into that and on the outside you can see the german lisa marie choi you're also coming through strongly don't think she's done enough there to keep up with the greek and the spaniard but it's interesting if you compare the spaniard there next to the frenchman how long she keeps her head down coming out of the block so completely different style but really good running there from zahi in lane four bit of a disappointing run i think from kawaii when you consider that just three weeks ago she actually took medals in napoli in the world student games over most sprint distances just looks a bit tired well they also had the german championships just last week and they had to run the rounds there three of them and so i think it does show [Music] very composed there from zahi very accomplished run from the fred shulman gets herself nicely through to the final [Music] and confirmations are he 11 20 season's best as well for rafaela 1143 to get spain the 19 year old spaniard automatically qualifying why 11 43. there's maria vicente again cameron's founder and he's not going to let her go so daryl neeta 11 19 leading the way in sahih 1120 going through his non-automatic qualifiers kwaii at 11 of italy from the first heat at 11 49. you get them started young here in poland fans of all ages well this is a great sports city it's not just athletics i mean i've been here a number of times going back 20 years to the very first iwaf world youth championships as it was in 99 a couple of world cross country championships have been here as well but it's renowned for its basketball teams it's speedway and particularly it's canoeing and rowing because they're the city is at the junction of the raider and visual rivers and they've got this newly cleaned out big gosh canal as well so very much a sporting environment here in bingo and one of the volunteers on the way back from the airport was actually telling me that red gosh of course um is very much in competition with toronto another great polish athletics host um in terms of which is the better city and and said one of the things that but gosh is very proud of is the fact that they have two rivers whereas tauren only has one but apparently tauren has more bridges so we'll get counting on that well torrance also got a very fine indoor stadium and we go there in two years time for the european athletics indoor championships in 2021 i'm glad you got my hint there as we can see we're moving back to the 400 meters start where the men's 400 meter heats will take place very shortly we've got ray for italy schneider for germany papas for greece sadie for france amelco for poland and enva for finland but we'll go through them very shortly as we introduce them properly we can see david ray there with his 44-77 set an italian record this year actually bettered it twice first ran uh an italian record in geneva and then bettered it again at la shorter fall 45 so he is the fastest in terms of season's best in this field actually it comes from a downhill skiing slalom background and used to do sprinting just to stay fit and then had a few accidents got injured and ended up staying in this sport and look where he is now the 26 year old there we have schneider for germany who's in lane three i can't quite tell who this is it could be the frenchman but let's go through the field here [Music] [Music] again just as in all the other sprints three fastest will go automatically through christopher envel for finland said his personal best this year rafael very accomplished relay runner the pole was part of that relay that set the world record indoors last year fabricio sadie of france in lane five mikhail pappas of greece in lane four also set his personal best this year 21 years young patrick schneider of germany in lane 3 and the men i already mentioned earlier there david ray eventually the 26 year old italian record holder keep an eye on lane five fabricio cedi 20 years young new european under-23 champion from a few weeks ago from the inside out ray italy schneider germany papas greece sadie france omelco poland and envel finland [Music] and ray looking good they're going out strong alongside him schneider's also not looking bad they've already made up way on the great mill but then also amelco there on the outside lane six looking very good so it's right on the inside rey for italy and omelco for poland also looking strong is sadie the young frenchman reigning european under 23 champion and the crowd is roaring on rafael amelco but it's david ray who's leading on the home straight now the italian record holder holding on there very strong finish from the young frenchman fabricio cedi they're coming through in second and third automatic qualifier goes to raphael amelco of poland [Music] winning time 45 86 confirmed for david ray and he'll be very pleased with that yes he'll be pleased but i thought he had to look at work a bit harder than i imagined considering he's run almost a second faster than that well indeed more than a second faster than that he had a lot of ground to make up as well as you can see as he's coming into the home straight on the replay to claw back a little bit of a deficit from sydee in particular and omelka as well on his outside had to work hard down the home straight in the end coming through though for the win i think that was a bit of a deception because he did actually look like he was coming on the home straight with a lead but i think he's just looking across there i wonder whether he was actually watching himself on the screen in front of him and then just looks across and makes sure that he has that spot automatically secure the german schneider we'll have to wait and see but he's really tying up there as you can see whereas the young frenchman looks very comfortable there it's a very long stride well i was very impressed when i saw sydee on route to winning the european under 23 title in hievler three weeks ago i mean he really has a huge amount of talent the frenchman i think the 400 meters is one of these events where yes you can do a lot with speed but i think part of it is also experiencing really knowing how to play your cards so for him 20 years young he clearly has a speed he seems to be looking strong at the end and i'm quite intrigued to see what he can do once he gets the experience as well this hasn't really been a vintage year for european 400 meter running at least in the men's events there we have the results confirmed so 45 86 confirmed foray and patrick schneider with 47 dead and purpose for greece with 47.47 will have to wait and see whether their times will be good enough to get them through to the final yeah so just continuing uh the on the theme of not being a vintage year for european 400 meter running we've only had one man and that's indeed david david ray who's ever gone under 45 seconds this year and it was in the very very accommodating should we say accommodating climate of cho davon the famous swiss meeting which is uh at altitude and certainly an assistance for fast times but he had of course that 4501 uh in geneva as well so he's been consistent in that regard has run quite a few races but with regards to times we obviously have to consider world championships are still um well over a month away yeah about six seven weeks away aren't they and so a lot of these athletes have actually been preparing completely differently this year they've planned out their seasons differently we're seeing national championships are being held later we've still got four more diamond league meets to go we have the match to go um and so fast times will come yes and just following up that as you look at the start list for the p2 of this men's 400 meters the winner of the competitions the individual competitions here in mid gosh will get automatic selection to the match which is a for a side competition between europe and the united states the other places being filled by the european lists and the host nation belarus get 10 automatic places 10 guaranteed places so on the outside of this charles devonte of switzerland the 2018 swiss champion money's inside oscar jose was in fine form last year but has had a few injuries minor injuries at the start of this year carl bankstrom who was so impressive over the barriers in yevla taking a very very well received gold medal over the 400 meters hurdles of the european under 23s capturing swarm of czech republic three times check champion he's in lane four danilo just missed out on a medal a few weeks ago at the world student games the ukrainian when he was in napoli and on the inside the fastest man in this field on this season's form is the 34 year old dwayne cowan he's part of the lloyd cowan a very fine hurdler in the 80s and 90s and now his coach approached to many very good british athletes i'm sure he's watching on at the moment cowan won the 400 meters at the european team championships in leo two years ago it's from the inside cowan great britain daniel ukraine salmon czech republic banks from sweden jucila spain devonta of switzerland of spain in lane six who started very quickly almost immediately within 100 meters up on the shoulder of devontae on his outside cowan now took his time getting into his stride but now really working well down they home straight the back straight coming into the bend priscilla's clear lead at the moment cowan though long legs of the britain starting to eat off the ground on whosilis in just the space of a few minutes a few moments it's coward now challenging husillas who still is fighting back though so this is the battle between cowan on the inside and lucille's power [Music] spain one great britain and northern ireland two priscillas 46-66 so considerably slower than the first heat interesting see who comes through as the non-fastest automatic qualifiers i was going to say i think it's daniel dalilenko who secured that third spot there coming through strongly there we can see the replay so really not much between the britain and the spaniard ucla's really hanging on there fighting a little harder i think you can see cohen looking over a bit easing up and jose los taking that win and danny lenko coming through there in lane three for ukraine so those three the automatic qualifiers now do you think that car bergstrom there the young swede comes through look from very far behind here where the swede there in the yellow and blue [Music] catches up with the czech athlete and secures that full spot and i think he might have done just enough to get one of the time qualifiers i'm intrigued to see that not just that i think he's very close to his personal best thrown in at the deep end here he's obviously got the strength from the 400 meters hurdles so really does very well indeed down the home straight over taking soam on his inside no doubts at all about the winner it's oscar hussilas of spain so a little bit slower than the first heat but hussulas takes the win in 46-66 cowan 46-82 for britain and danielenko 46-96 for ukraine beckstrom of 47-16 indeed it is a personal best by a few hundreds i think that's maybe enough to see him through as a non-automatic qualifier because i've got it written down here and the two automatic non-automatic qualifiers are indeed patrick schneider here we have them coming up for germany and carl bankstrom this weed so great to see him perform when it matters personal best there and make sure that sweden is in for a chance for extra points there well there'll be a reformatting of the european team championships in 2021 so that it's five teams that are going to get relegated from the super league on sunday evening because we're going to slim down the divisions down to first second and super league of teams of eight from the current 12 team divisions it's very hard to see so many teams go i think that but it also makes it very interesting because there will be a very close battle for those remaining spots when we go back to the format that we had under the old european cup i for one am in favor of that i actually quite like that as well as we move straight back to the track to the women's 400 meter heat and there we can see a lady i've mentioned very briefly earlier lada von drovar of the czech republic who was initially down for the 400 hurdles swapped with susannah novar and is now down in the 400 meters flat has a personal best of 51.71 so really really strong performer and i think it was clever that they swapped because i think points really matter for the checks here first of all here in the outside lane in lane 7 award sofia spielmeier three times a german champion and a big role here from the polish crowd for the lady in lane six justina last year's european champion maria benedicta czecho for italy in lane five won a bronze with the relay in 2016. amira chokairi for finland the finnish champion this year and in lane three we have lada von drovar who won europeans under 23 silva just a few weeks ago at this event and also did well over the hurdles already lorena for casa for spain completes the field here in lane 2 really quite the mix here of various accomplishments and ages in this field but the lady or the woman to watch in this race lada von drobar of the czech republic as well as justina sveatercetic of poland in lane six bokehs are for spain on the inside one dravara czech republic shokari finland chicolu italy's yeti yesterday poland and spielmeyer germany there seems to be a bit of noise on that side it doesn't look too busy on that side but actually on the home straight and on the back straight it has filled quite up nicely considering there's only two finals tonight i think that's pretty good green card is being shown to all the athletes as it was no one's fault and it was the decision of the starter to call back the athletes of course false starts aren't seen uh or aren't very popular in this event in particular as every point matters for this team and competition polish team actually did suffer a bit from that in the last edition because they did see a couple of their athletes including evas voboda in the 100 meters disqualified last time round so hopefully no fall starts here quickly going through the lineup again because spain van der vaczek republic jakari finland chickbolu italy svetti asitic poland and spielmeier germany [Music] [Applause] [Music] and of course on the inside van der vaar going very strongly but of course ersetic has a fantastic finish and is now realized and she has to kick a bit to keep chickpolu off her case a little but on the inside ladavondra for the czech republic looking very strong indeed and it's those three women who are coming on the home straight first satige leading the field here for poland to the delight of the crowd and she's looking very relaxed indeed the pole really made up a lot of ground there on those last hundred meters it's second for italy and lada vondrava for the czech republic coming through in the so those are the three automatic qualifiers in this first heat of the women's 400 meters [Music] time confirmed therefore justina's viation 52 32 very comfortable running there from her of course quite a bit off her personal best but i mean this was a very easy qualifying round for her indeed it was but i was very impressed with you by the running of chipolo of the italy and she was in fine form a few years ago back in 2013 and it's starting to come back into that sub 52 form this year after a number of injuries and just lots of form yes she tired a little bit over the final 50 meters bondravo coming through to take third place vonderva tried to double up in yevla and she got a silver medal in the flat 400 meters sixth in the 400 meters hurdles she's very strong athletes and of course we are going to see all of these athletes i'm sure in action in the four by four hundred meters on the final day here in bid gosh and here a very interesting step on chickbolu from our statistician mark butler which is that her grandfather julius chigbollu was ninth at the 1956 olympics in the high jump for nigeria so if that isn't a little fun fact i don't know what is can you name who won but i the tell you how high he jumped don't look at your notes how high did he jump how high did hoojum the the winner oh a granddad a granddad sorry granddad jumped two meters and he was won by charlie dumas of united states you looked that up beforehand i didn't either i knew that there we have the results of that first heat justina confirmed the winner uh czech bowler in second who will have to wait and see whether their times will be enough to get them through to the final i will concentrate on 400 meter running now not high jumping from 60 odd years ago you used to be a high jumper maybe not 60 odd years ago maybe not no [Music] so there's the start list for the second heat in this the women's 400 meters and the name certainly to look out for is in lane six that's leah sprunger european 400 meters hurdles champions last year in berlin and the european indoor champion this year in glasgow well sprunger hasn't run an outdoor 400 meters flat competitively this year that time of 51.61 actually dates from her win in glasgow still makes for the fastest time on current form in this field there's deborah sanadez of france just a close-up of the french woman who also came away from berlin with a medal part of the french silver medalists in the four by 400 meters relay [Music] as with all the track events today it's the first three who go through as automatic qualifiers to the final and two non-automatic qualifiers this particular event has its final tomorrow evening so quick recovery time for these women some of which will be used to running back-to-back heat some of which perhaps less so you can also see in the background the javelin throwers warming up and that competition the second field event final if you like due to gets underway in just a few minutes just after eight o'clock local time here oh grease plate replacement for european silver medalist maria bella picassi leah sprunger without doubt the favor for this heat and possibly this event has improved to 51.55 this year a very talented french woman who won the french title just a few weeks ago amy alcock 25 years of age [Applause] relay bronzes last year world indoors and the europeans well she was the european silver medalist back in 2012 had a maternity break and is now back competing for her country and on the inside also wearing a yellow vest sometimes might just have a few problems distinguishing the swedish and ukrainian teams as you can see very very similar outfits on the inside katarina of ukraine so as they settle in from the inside is klumiock of ukraine helmer of sweden alcock great britain northern ireland france springer of switzerland and on the outside water or grease [Music] well springers you might expect away very very quickly and the tall swiss runner up on the shoulder already of water of greece on our outside cena is running well behind us so to alcohol at this stage [Music] on the inside really doing very well indeed down the back straight as they come into the second bend and cena is up on the shoulder of sprunger sprunger though looks as though she's taking things away in a very relaxed fashion [Applause] all in second place coming through very strongly off that pen york of ukraine and now springer just starting to go through the gears just look at the way that she's accelerating let me look on the inside i think she's come through almost unnoticed women on the outside but probably didn't notice clint on the inside but sprung up i think she might have just been pissed by well the cameraman's picking out springer 52-57 with that huge surge down the home straight just took it so easy through this second and third phases look at the gap there that springer makes up on these last 80 meters as you said on the inside the ukrainian looking very strong indeed but stronger with just a few strides next to the others and just the length of her legs really helps in regards to that but really great running there from the swift athletes coming through strongly and a good finish from the french woman as well sanones next to sprunger manages to hang on there and also gets one of the automatic qualifying spots i have to say with sanne's head just thrown back like that it looks so labored she's very quick across the ground but it looks as though she's making hard work of it but springer she's making it look very easy indeed so there we are it's the confirmation leah sprunger in her first outdoor competitive 400 meters winning in 52-57 france and ukraine thanks to sanani's including go through as automatic qualifiers sweaty acidic a bit quicker in the first heat 52-32 all cocker henchmen get britain and sweden through to the final as non-automatic qualifiers so battle royale to be anticipated between sweetie ursatic and sprunger i think in the final coming up tomorrow evening not to write off the other two women from the first heat gigboli looked really strong there indeed and also the young check as we move back to the field now with the javelin throw and dimitrios set sauce for grace there one european junior bronze or under 20 bronze this year just 18 years of age has a personal best of 77.79 for spain also just 21 years young set a new spanish record earlier this year and for the ukraine alexander youtube more experienced athletes also through his personal best interesting introduction there from the italian and here is a very accomplished throw in the diako badlich for the czech republic the defending european team championships champion and there's a man from a very strong javelin nation germany julian weber just finished second at the german championships last week lucas moutad for france and another young athlete tom hewson for great britain in northern ireland again just 18 years of age six times swedish champion kim um has been battling with injuries in recent years but it's good to see him back here and tony kusala of finland lining up next simon villand who won the european under-20 title earlier this year as a bit of a surprise and completing the field for poland martin trakowski the national record holder gets a warm reception here from the crowd as we have seen earlier in the women's discus throw again four attempts in total everyone gets three attempts and then the top four athletes get another final attempt and at that point the attempts or the throwing order will be reshuffled so the leader at that point will be throwing last this field really is quite interesting if you look at the makeup as i mentioned quite a few youngsters in there quite a few of those athletes that we have seen compete in the age group championships over the last few weeks bronze medalist at the european under-20 championships demetrius doesn't come close to his personal best here just over 70 meters about 72 meters so he looks a bit disappointed when he released it but again i think it's worth noting here 6770 so well below his capabilities but it is worth noting that it's always good to get a first mark on the board and then you can concentrate on improving so here's the spanish record holder manu kiera spanish under 23 champion that one looks better over the 75 meter mark as you can see superimposed there the distances that line you could see there was the 75 meter mark gets good height there this wind has nearly completely died down now if we look across at the flax that are flying over the stadium and there we can see 75 64 for the spaniard so it's a good mark to get on the board there next up we have alexander nucci for the ukraine has thrown over 80 meters this year already [Music] [Applause] just comes down very drastically there close to the 75 meter mark but not quite over it of course completely different preferences amongst javelin throwers some prefer throwing with a headwind others with a tailwind others wanted completely wind still um let's see what we've got on the board there 72-43 first for him such a fussy bunch the javelin throws italy the 26 year old italian champion so there's a terror pit kameki there [Applause] again different techniques get very close to the 75 meter mark there not quite i think so probably in the high 74s but very close with his hand to the line there so he has to be careful to not foul 74.48 for the italian i'm always quite concerned about those throwers that fly after they're javelin i'd probably break my wrist if i did that there have been a few injuries in their time it was terrible accused you rightly say popularized it and it's almost a kamikaze style jacob bartlett there of course the reigning defending champion in this event the check he's one of the ones that likes to bother the germans a bit and there we can see he gets very close to the 80 meter mark there and shows his dominance in the event won silva at the world championships two years ago and will certainly be looking to add another medal to that later on in doha but that was very close to the 80 meters and um let's put a good mark there on the board i'm sure he'll want more from that but actually i think there we go 79.88 of course has come close to 90 meters in the past as we go back to the track and the women's 100 meter hurdles same spiel as always fastest three plus the next two time qualifiers will go through the final for this will be on sunday you can see second place in europe this year in lane two for finland annie marie quarter will be one to watch and another woman who's gone [Music] under 13 two other women one under 13 this year already so we can hear the crouch here but i'm sure we'll go back to the javelin shortly looking at that field that is not anime corte that is fannie queno off france in lane five but i'm sure we'll have the lineup coming up very shortly you already hear the music [Music] there we go inlay to for finland annie marie corte very promising junior athlete had a lot of injuries and subsequently a number of surgeries now come back with a finish record and another very accomplished athlete next to her cindy rowe later for germany european champion in 2016. elizabeth pesirido 4 greece 12 times a great champion fanny quinoa second at the french championships broke 13 for the first time at that race in lane six for switzerland noemi sparren former athlete and in lane seven marlene gorkstrom for sweden another heptathlete so very interesting mix in this race but certainly the three athletes to watch here lane two three and five quarter row later and cueno the three sub 13 performers from the inside out quarter finland rollator germany pesirido greece quinoa france sparron switzerland and scorstrom sweden uh there we go courtney got out really well there rollator always takes a little bit to get into the race now is making up ground the grease athlete also making up very good ground there pesirodu rolida they're coming through with a strong finish that we used from the german won bronze last year in berlin and corte also qualified so 1304 four-row later would have wanted a bit more there i imagine but then again it is a heat and i'm sure that elizabeth jesse do who we're seeing there will be quite pleased with that with the automatic qualifier and as we've seen we were talking about with the javelin in the background the wind dropping down and the the mascots getting in on the axe what animal it is please do let us know there's the time confirmed winner senior leader 1304 a german champion [Music] as you can see there quarter getting away very quickly indeed dwarfed by the very tall figure alongside her of cindy relata but then relator not the best of stars but then really eats up the ground between the hurdles she's very quick between the hurdles and being a tall hurdler almost barely needs to break stride to get over the barriers has of course dabbled with the heptathlon as well um and said that that really helped her overall with the hurdles doing a bit of long jump helps with getting the diff the distances right between the hurdles but there we can see just towards the end how she dominates and that's how she won a medal at world championships in the past really just over the last few hurdles dipping through and securing those vital 100th and 10th inner race that can make or break a spot for a medal here it's just about qualifying for the finals of course that's a redo very tiny run over the barriers there we have the times confirmed 1304 1311 and 1320. in 1362. i don't quite know what happened there of course she had a very good run at the french championships and stayed a little under her abilities there but top three confirmed and 13 62 and 66 are the times we'll have to remember for the second heat here's a man who's definitely one of the favorites there we can see the replay and i think that's the rule we heard just before the start of that race um in the men's javelin julian weber for germany was leading all the way through the final round in the german championships last week and then andreas hoffman just came through but they're 86 86 very good performance there from the german to lee the men's japan and that will take some following up so there's the start list for the second heat in the women's 100 meters hurdles and a very loaded heat this with great friends cindy of philly in lane two a 1260 performer at best four years ago and europe's third and fourth place athletes this year luminos pogliolo of italy recent winner of the world student games and on the outside carolina color check well just a brief pause in proceedings while the officials just tidy up some of the hurdles from the first heat there we go confirmation of the start list again so very very good indeed season's best shown as you as you can see on your screen to the right hand side of the screen on current form color check is the fastest woman third fastest time in europe this year with [Music] 12 75 back in june local meeting in charleston [Music] quite a familiar figure on the international circuit sixth at last year's european championships when we were in berlin last summer two-time silver medalist at the european under 23 championships [Music] so here we have in late two cyndio philly fourth of the 2016 olympics lucy could look over [Applause] second of the check championships recently the spanish number one for a number of years carried out hannah cena now 32 years of age regular face improving 24 year old luminosa oglio took the world's june game title and as always a big cheer for the polish athlete carolina so we saw relator win the first heat in 1304 from the inside we have a philly of great britain cordell over czech republic head spain plotted cena ukraine bogliolu italy and on the outside colorcheck of poland was wavering in the blocks but they didn't call them up and away well is bogliolu on the inside of philly running well philly's running very well indeed but it's bogliolu and on her outside police italy poland great britain that's the one two three and a very good time indeed oglio 12 83 that's the second fastest time of her career into a 4.3 meters per second win so poglio has really brought her best form here carrying on the form that took her to world student games title just three weeks ago and there we can see she really got out the blocks well as did cindy ophelia on the inside but the italian they are really executing that race incredibly well alongside her the pole college egg almost pipping on the line and i think cindy o'fili will be pleased with that tore her achilles tendon last year but there we can see the pole in the italian almost shoulder to shoulder the entire race through and just on the inside are really sneaking through for that third automatic qualifier spot i guess i feel you started very well but just uh struggled a little bit over the final four barriers i think it's just the race frequency lacking a bit as i said to her achilles tendon last year took a while to recover has only started racing later on in the season became an arm just earlier this month no last month when her sister tiffany porter also an accomplished hurdler had her first child so um but i think she'll be pleased with that and getting ready ahead of the british championships of course that are coming up well there we go there's the result luminosa bogliolu 1283 and she's closing gradually on a long-standing italian record it's been on the books for a number of years christina carolina check i should say at 12.85 just running a very very close indeed with cyndia philly confirmation that she takes third automatic place into the final should be coming up on sunday evening swedish fans out and falls there as well just waiting for confirmation of the time qualifiers in that women's hundred meter hurdles and who will line up on sunday yeah just a opportunity once again as always to say a big thank you to european athletics international partners spa la gruyere and eurovision as we go back to the youngsters in the javelin throw spanish record holder has an 81 personal best it's not really coming together for him here quite impressed to manage the fact that he managed to stay behind the line there doesn't look that pleased with his effort as well but really close there how he managed to hold that he's had a lot of competition so he went to jevla for the european under 23s as a medal prospect but only ended up finishing fifth and that was a big disappointment for him his brother nico also throwing over 80 meters although wasn't the spanish record holder that was just a few centimeters shy last year now of course he's got it but of course as we said it is important for the younger athletes to be going to these competitions to compete alongside the more experienced ones and to learn from the older generations let's just say here's someone who has his fair share of experience alexander nuchi porchuk for ukraine finished 10th at the european championships in zurich in 2014. actually has thrown his personal best this year but stays well below the 75 meter mark it is also slightly cooling down in the stadium which might pay your part in that here we have the summary so far he's in fifth at the moment the ukrainian end julian wieber of germany is leading this men's javelin with his first round attempt here is the italian tomorrow so far in fourth with his first round attempt as a reminder the top four will get a fourth throw there no improvement for him on his previous effort off 74-48 now of course there we can see jacob batledge who's currently ranked in second with a 79-88 first-round effort we'll be looking to improve on that i am sure has this title to defend and as i said he's someone who likes to challenge the german javelin superpower little managed to secure a diamond league win back in 2016. but that looked a little lackluster and you can hear him saying oh there so he's clearly not quite pleased with that as well don't think it betters his 7988 effort from the first round he's still got another attempt of course probably even two if he stays in second position i was hoping we're going to see julian vapor but it looks as though we're switching our attention to the track well at least we got this other one in replay but let's hope so there's the results of p2 of the winds 100 meters hurdles no i'm sorry that's a that's actually a startlist from a previous event we're coming up with the men's 100 meters hurdles he was a bit confused there by the names but what i think that was supposed to be the qualifiers for the final we'll give you those in a bit but let's focus on the men's event here here is the start list for the first heat in the men's hundred and ten meter hurdles but guys to watch in that probably in lane six pascal martinez became the european champion in berlin last year but let's take a look at the whole field in this first heat here we can see gregor trevor of germany the german champion last week wasn't very pleased with that run so he'll look to improve on that in lane two here we can see from ukraine carrillo comenco it's been improving quite well this season elmo lacquer for finland ten times the finnish champion [Music] only four constantinos du validis the great record holders indoors and out yeah i've mentioned him earlier already gregor the german champion i'm the man to watch in this race pascal martin lagarde is second at the french championships behind villain pelosi on but he is a championship performer and on the outside lane there in lane seven sweden united hall of course the hurdles anything can happen really but from the inside out komenko ukraine lack of finland duvaliedes greece traba germany martino lagarde france and holm sweden [Music] there you can see drama gets out pretty well also duvalied is and now it's time for pascal martinu lagar to come through the frenchman looking strong gets through the hurdles pretty neatly and as i said the clear favorite in this race 1341 so really not the fastest gets corrected to 39. you can see there's a slight tailwind as well but for a lot of these runners it's actually about not getting too close to the hurdle so a tailwind can't doesn't always have to be beneficial for these hurdles there as we see the replay yes trauma gets out very well indeed but it doesn't take very long before martino lagarde really starts to pick it up martin oligard when he gets it right he's such a fluid hurdler dublin is running very well coming through strongly on the inside so it was lanes four five and six the men that qualify fair to say also holm on the outside had a good start but really couldn't sustain it after they're about the fourth hurdle martino lagarde i said he was a fluent header he did have one major crash at the eighth hurdle but nine out of ten blossom pad unfortunately he's another one of those who gets hit by injuries from time to time but as he said when he gets it right he gets it right and has just got a very good technique traba on the other hand sometimes a little more ragged in his approach but secures a spot in the final there for the germans which will also take place on sunday there we have the results in martin luther 13 39 47 for duvaliedes and sharba with 55. alaka for finland came through there on the inside on lane three and home in 1382 those two will have to wait and see whether they have qualified for the final yes it is cooling quite rapidly here at the start of the program at about 6 30 we're enjoying 25 26 degrees and i think it's probably a good five or six degrees cooler than when we started did you bring your blanket there we can see the throw that we were hoping we'd get julian weber the german leading the competition with 86 86 from the first round the only man to have gone over 80 meters so far in this competition his second attempt here and it looks good again not quite over the 85 but again over 80 meters again so very consistent here similar to how he performed last week at the german championships where he was leading right up until the last round and then performed his best throw in the final round and still got beat by andreas hoffmann you've got some insight into this michelle just looking at the distance coming up for faber there we go no improvement 8375 but still very consistent yes i mean the the first uh selections for the german teams going to the world championships was announced today four men in it but it didn't include faber and i know yes you were right to mention that it is an interesting one of course we have the reigning world champion with johannes vetter who has a buy we have a diamond league champion with andreas hoffman who also won the german title thomas roller of course always consistent and good in championships those are the three that were kind of set but then we have been at seifen there who's been throwing consistently over the course of the season but of course we were half expecting julian weber after his strong performance at the german championships to be part of that team so i'm intrigued to hear what's following up from that but back to the track now yes the second heat of the men's 110 meters hurdles and this is the pole damien shakir running very well at the moment 13 14. on the inside well better known as the catholic former world under 20 champion hasn't broken 14 seconds so perhaps just really making up the numbers just getting a point for the czech republic hasn't recently improved to 14 i should say 13 44. now this is the man the very good spaniard orlando ortega ran 1305 in lausanne very recently just one tenth away from his spanish record jason joseph european under-23 champion hugely talented really one of the up-and-coming stars of european hurdly damien shakir personal best dates from two years ago but he's getting back to that sort of form twice fourth of the european championships and he finished third behind joseph in yevla the british representative cameron fillery 2019 european under 23 bronze medalist [Music] [Applause] so we'll tell you comes here in flying form at the moment with his best for three years with that 1305 but from the inside it's sakura czech republic for the italy ortega spain joseph of switzerland czechia of poland just taking a long time this team this group to settle into their blocks and the lineup completed by fillery the 20-year-old britain out in lane 7. one ortega is indeed away very very quickly shakira doing well at this stage as well ortega crashing through the hurdles though not as impressive we might expect but now over the final three barriers pulling away villarry gets through for second and it's very close between fafana and chickier for third but fillery ran an excellent race over the final three or four barriers really motoring 13 39 for ortega not desperately impressive but there's plenty more to come from the spaniard i think it might well have been a personal best for filler it might have been but just quickly i've been getting some comments on social media it is indeed a links um getting back to the mascot but there we can see ortega getting out very strongly as we were expecting from the spaniard there in lane four check here they are still looking good at that point but then on the outside really looking good cameron fillery the 20 year old under-23 bronze medalist sneaking through on the outside probably stayed out of trouble there a bit you can see there chick you really hit that one hurdle ortega very smooth through these hurdles but similar time to martinez in the previous heat big surprise there is i think jason joseph who is eulogizing as one of the great talents in europe had a dreadful race lots of woodwork everywhere crashing barriers and i think he's not going to feature in the final no that last hurdle looked almost dangerous there so i'm glad no pretty good for matchsticks now well it's getting colder so we might meet them shortly but good race there from orlando ortega and he looks pleased and as you rightly say he gets a big hug from a lynx a lynx very common in poland and we did talk about it you didn't think that it was the links there is the results yes ortega confirmed 1336 villarreal in second just four hundredths outside of his personal best in 1364. and shakir just edges out for fana so poland take the third automatic qualifying spot in the second of these two heats for 1369 and a rather disappointing run for jason joseph of italy we'll just give you the summary in a moment back to the javelin and there we have martian krakowski for poland and he's had a foul in the first round which means this second one could actually be vital because otherwise he might have a bit of pressure in his last attempt so let's see whether he can get a mark on the board there because otherwise the poles will struggle a little and then he does very good indeed moves him certainly into four at least might even move him up a little further and of course the top four throwers will get a full attempt so good for him to see there that he moves up 77-15 for him which means he's up in third now so that will mean he will sigh a bit of a brave breath of relief there so there's the confirmation of the eight men who go through to the final led by orlando ortega with that 13 39 clocking the same as pascal martin oligar and indeed lacquer of finland and fafana of italy do go through as fast as non-automatic qualifiers and straight on to the next spring race of the night the hurdles have already been cleared away they're very efficient here in poland and we're moving on to the last two sprint events of the night the men's and women's 200 meters there we can see the first heat off the men's 200 meters lining up already with richard kilty there in lane 2-4 great britain in northern ireland twice the european indoor champion at 60 meters world indoor champion at 60 meters here now in the 200 meters and actually ran a very good relay leg at the recent london diamond league so he'll be looking to improve on his 200 meter time set his personal best way back in 2013 so interesting to see what he can do on the inside lane there we go on the outside for ukraine sergei schmelik the defending champion at this event william reyes for switzerland just 20 years young casper kardashian for sweden finished seventh at the european under 23 championships just a few weeks ago and the french champion in this event muhammadu fall for france [Applause] sherman's love sloikovsky for poland there gets a big cheer it was the polish champion a few years ago at 100 meters and the man i already mentioned in lane 2 on the inside richard guilty for great britain in northern ireland [Music] again three fastest in each heat plus the time qualifiers the next two time qualifiers will go through to the final on sunday from the inside out kilty great britain and northern ireland slovikovsky poland france kurdistan sweden rios switzerland and shmaelic ukraine we go and it looks like the swede kardashian had a very good start there in lane five of course now of france fall coming through very strongly and richard guilty on the inside also looking very good indeed pulling away from the frenchman now and on the outside shmelig for the ukraine also coming through so great britain and northern ireland france and ukraine the three time qualifiers [Music] there we go in the end very comfortable for richard guilty we don't see too many 200 meter races from him confirmed as the winner in 2072 [Music] well guilty away quickly as you might expect from a two-time world indoor 60 meter champion perhaps a little bit tight on the bend but it's the long-legged muhammadu fall coached by the french national high jump record holder michael hernandez and then kilty comes through very strongly again with another change of gears over the last 50 meters and smelic of ukraine takes third place great britain france and ukraine that's the one two three in this race paul's an interesting character despite it being now well into his twenties has only been training seriously for two years last year was his first serious season in the sport and i'm really impressed with casper kardashian the 20 year old swede there who comes through in four and i think he got a personal best if i see it correctly on the screen on the far side there so really good performance there from him on the big stage with some very accomplished athletes there richard guilty not sure whether he's not pleased or whether he was thinking he could do a bit more then we can see personal best confirmed for kardashian fourth but it's richard kilty fal and schmelick the three automatic qualifiers so kardash darling race in fourth and fifth we'll have to wait and see what happens in the second heat as well nightfall defend descending over big gosh as we move along to the second heat of the men's 200 meters there's some interesting names in there not least of which is pavel maslak three times world indoor 400 meters champion concentrating very much on 200 meters this year after some injury problems and fitness issues at the end of the indoor season samuel garcia also better known as a 400 meter runner he's helping out the spanish team by dropping down distance that's one of those things that is great about the european team championships as well because you do sometimes see people step it up and take one for the team as we say um and the other thing that we're seeing a lot here is the fact that there are quite a few multi-eventers taking various responsibilities for their teams yes we'll see that over the course of the weekend i believe geraldine rockstar for instance the european under-23 heptathlon winner is throwing the javelin well she's very accomplished individual javelin throw so here we have garcia very very tall figure he always stands out in a crowd about one minute three then there's desalu of italy on the outside the 25 year old italian made last year's european championships 200 meters final let's see personal best of 2013 last year he's just starting to round into that sort of form well what a medal in berlin last year as part of the spanish four by four hundred meter team sunwell garcia in lane six is trivisas of greece the greek in late now five years of age his personal best dates back a decade well not quite in the sharpest to form over 400 meters but useful over 200 asgardi later 83 this year and on the inside stephen muller 2019 german champion another man who's improved this year 28 years of age has gone down to 20 42 as they get ready and move to their blocks starter calling them on their marks from the inside it's mueller of germany letting them finland maslak czech republic trevisas greece garcia spain desalu of italy not much to choose between these runners right the way across the board well it's ass the greek moves away quickly desolute on the outside also running well at this stage now coming off the bend garcia really starting to eat on the ground and muller on the inside still very even between germany spain and italy on the outside muller running well so too coming through quickly masslax so it's germany cherry republic and italy but i'm not quite sure that's a blanket finish i hesitate to call the order of those three first three going through and desalu out on the outside in lane seven gets the birding twin 20 86 there'll only be a few hundreds between him and stephen muller and pavel maslak just waiting for the one two three the confirmed order there we have the replay and you can see really on the outside not phased by any of the rest of the field desilu for italy looking very good miller coming through like a storm on the inside masslax still hanging back but of course as a 400 meter runner just take a little more time to get rolling and that's why he has such a strong finish miller is now really tying up on the inside on the outside desalu is still looking good and i think maslak might have caught mueller there just at the end miller actually a last minute replacement for robin ivera who was initially down for this team but he's looking in good shape just a bit of a surprise that the spaniard garcia just weakens a little bit over the final 50 meters but i think he's probably done enough to get through because it wasn't a strong heat that first heat fourth place outside 21 seconds of course a former air american football player in the german league and only started sprinting just to get faster and then was brought to the sport and actually is doing pretty well for himself here so as the results come through there well they took a bit of time deciding the standings but uh desalu 2086 vaslak and muller same time 2089 second and third split by a few thousands and garcia 2097 well he's inside 21 seconds so i can tell you he goes through as the fastest non-automatic qualifier the spaniard in fourth place in that heat there we go casper kardashian the youngster sorry i had to talk over there but i'm very excited that his personal best actually got him through with that last qualifying spot no doubt at all about the fastest man in there those two heats going through to the final richard guilty at 20 72 leading the way [Music] let's hope we'll go back to the javelin because we can hear some clapping in the background because i think it's the pole of martin krakowski who is lining up and he's currently in third position thanks to a 77 15 meter throw in the second round so this is his third attempt can he come close to julian bieber and he's looking pretty good i think that was an improvement it's close to the 80 meter line looks like he's saying well kind of fell down towards the end but i definitely think he's moved closer to the 80 meter mark there yeah really steep curve there towards the end but it is an improvement 79-54 for krukowski the polish record holder and he is still in third so weber still leading from batledge and kukovsky there in third currently in fourth is manu quiguera spain and those will be the four guys getting one more attempt we're now reshuffling the throwing order so we'll go back to fourth quiera will throw first followed by krukowski vatledge and weber the other points will be decided based on the throws from the first three rounds so we can see there great britain and northern ireland make up the end of the field i'd love to know what julian babe is actually going to say after this competition i wonder whether he feels he's got a point to prove because he's the only man who's thrown over 80 meters and he's done that with all three of his throws as we just see a replay there of the final throw from marcin i mean it is in germany with the javelin throw it's just such a tough event looking at the level there so the guys always know that they have to compete against each other but i see where you're coming from with regards to trying to prove a point at this competition as we see the replay of this row again now we are in the final round the fourth round there [Applause] manu quiera the spaniard set a spanish record of 81-31 earlier this year the 21 year old can he improve on the fourth position he currently holds it's close to his first try is his last round effort but i don't think it's an improvement for him so i think he will stay in fourth position yes there was quite a golf between quejada and the man in third krakowski nearly four meters there we have it confirmed another 74th row for him so okay decent performance they are on the senior international stage for him he's happy with that so that's very good but now we are getting to the top three positions so the difficulty for krakowski of course now is that he's only just thrown because he was last in the throwing order up until that point and now he'll have to get ready again he's already you can see there has to take his tights off pretty swiftly and throw again because of that reshuffling off the throwing order so not a lot of breathing space for the pole here 34 centimeters between prokosco in third and jakob vadlich of czech republic in second place at the moment and as i was saying their time is running out you could just see the clock there the throwers have only got a limited amount of time on the runway so now the entire stadium is looking at this final round nothing else going on here and it's all eyes on martin krakowski the polish record holder can he improve on this current third position no i don't think so as you can see there the superimposed line of the second place jakub battlage there it's close but it's not close enough i think he looks like he knows it as well but we can see there again like his previous throw towards the end his javelin really comes down very steeply another good throw 78 for him 78-90 but it's not enough to get close to this man the world silver medalist from london 2017 but he will certainly would have expected a bit more from this competition has a season's best of 85 75 and has come close to 90 meters in the past jacob vadlej what can he do no improvement for the check here either fauzi to save the officials a bit of time which is very nice of him because we can see the women's 200 already getting ready so he knows of the timetable clearly second place for jacob butler here dethroned from his winning performance two years ago and now it's all eyes on julian bieber the german silver medalist from the german championships last week a very consistent 80 meters plus series here from him and has already thrown a season's best in the first round here with 86 86 so can you get any closer to the 90 meter hut than that [Applause] certainly looks good again [Music] [Applause] but it's not close to his leading throw but i think every throw over 80 meters the only man in this competition to go beyond that mark and i think it's been a showing of german javelin dominions as we expected or i expect well notwithstanding that they also went to form this competition the one two three on paper before the competition started ended up as one two three in the scoring and 12 points to germany again good start to germany the two finals to be concluded tonight maximum points in both of them the women's discus a little bit earlier thanks to claudine claudia vader and now julian weber gets the defending champions off to an admirable start and we can always see great camaraderie amongst the javelin throwers as well often uh things like javelins get lost along the way to travels in a lot of times they will be sharing coaches and training equipment there he gets congratulated by the rest of the field and the officials as we are getting ready for the final two track races of the night i'm sure he'll show his spikes there was that one loose i think one was loose it looked like he or he'd lost one i think i think he was actually maybe the last throws actually had a damaged boot there someone physically wasn't too impressed with what he dug out of his kit bag there it's been in there for a little while it was hot i know that feeling [Music] i've pulled a few things out of my kit bag after a long day in the summer and had exactly the same expression but i'm sure the poles will be pleased with that third place finish in this event i'm sure julian mieber will feel that he has proven a point here really has performed well as i said last week at the german championships and i think phil you're looking at the placing table am i right i am i'm just doing a big quick bit of arithmetic uh and it does look as though at the moment it is poland with two victories there for 24 points after two of the 40 events very early stages in this competition and poland have 19 points in second place at the moment but a very very long way to go another 38 events to be concluded over the course of the next two days of competition and actually i've said something wrong earlier because i said there's only two track races remaining and in fact it's three because we have two 200 meter races as well as a non-scoring event that is also on the timetable the mixed 4x4 relay women are being led out it's just a slight hiatus in proceedings you've probably seen on every single competitor's bib here the iron clean legend which is european athletics is innovative online learning program to educate athletes about anti-doping ethics and procedures and of course it has been mandatory now at the european under 18 under 20 and under 23 championships for athletes competing at those competitions to undertake the learning program coming up this winter in tilburg i should say la in lisbon silberg was last winter's european cross country championships it will now be mandatory for senior athletes to undertake the e-learning program before competing and now we are focusing on the women's 200 meter races as we said slight delay there but it was very good that we had the entire stadium attention on that last round of the men's javelin to really give those athletes the attention they deserve and now final two 200 meter races there on the outside we have paula sevilla for spain in lane six hannah murray latvala who we've already seen earlier today so her second race of the day i wonder she'll probably run a relay as well so busy weekend for the finn and certainly one of the favorites here mujinga kampunji the world indoor bronze medalist at 60 meters last year for switzerland italy's gloria hooper they're in lane fort and jessica bianca vesoli the world student game silver medalist this year for germany in lane three and completing the field in lane two yelisaveta rishkina for the ukraine [Music] again it has cooled down a bit and they've been standing there for a little so that's why proceedings are going underway very quickly here now from the inside brishkini ukraine vesseli germany hooper italy kambonji switzerland latvia finland and sevilla spain and kambunji there the swiss athlete in lane five got out really strongly we can already see she's made up the stagger on the finnish athlete vessel of germany also looking good there in lane three but it's all eyes on kampunji the swiss sprinter who trains in great britain and she comfortably leads that pack vessel in second and i think just on the outside paula sivie of spain got that third automatic qualifying spot very very good performance there from kampunji indeed you see her more often over the 100 meters or the 60 meters so it's great to see her with a great bend in the 200 meters confirmed time there 2304 for the swiss i think that's a very good time in these cooling conditions as we look here cambodia getting away very quickly and really once she starts motoring she did look as though she just tired up a little bit in the home straight but she'd done more than enough at this stage she did all the hard work around the bend at this stage she has a good meter advantage over vestly on the inside and just keeps pouring it on just tires up just a little bit but also has the opportunity to relax over those final meters good run as well for vessely as well coming through in lane three i wonder whether the italian actually managed to pip the spaniard there because she does have a very strong lean in the end and i'm quite coming back from very far behind there gloria hooper keep an eye on her there in lane four as sevilla is tiring quite a bit and hooper does seem to have a bit of a pip towards the end my money's still on severe nice how much money [Laughter] well as you know i haven't been to the cash point yet i've been borrowing money off you know me some money because it is indeed pooper who comes through so kambunji no question about that in first vessely in second and gloria hooper there in third so paula sevilla will have to wait and see but she was very close to that it's just a few thousands separating hooper and sevilla there we have the final result of the men's javelin throw julian weber of germany taking 12 points for the germans jacob ledge in second and krukowski there with the third position for poland so two wins in two finals for the germans on this first day team standings after two events as we can see 24 points for germany poland in second with 19 points and finland currently in the bronze position with 16 points from great britain and northern ireland after two events leading up the rear down in 12th place but you've never had many throwers so i'm sure i'm sure steve backley might disagree with you i said many well actually i mean no disrespect to tom houston whose english schools champion was going into this competition as an 18 year old but where have the english british javelin throws gone anyway we'll debate that off air a bit later on as we now look at the second heat of the women's 200 meters [Music] [Music] by 400 meter relay teams like a few of the athletes in the men's 200 meters dropping down distance but french woman just third in the french 200 meters a few weeks ago lisa lillia of sweden [Music] already running the 100 meters a short while ago and jodie williams jd williams former world under 20 100 meters champion medalist at commonwealth games and european silver medals at 200 meters coming back to the best form she showed a few years ago has run a season's best of 22.75 and williams the fastest woman on current form in this field so as they settle into their blocks from the inside it's williams of great britain spanish of greece leah sweden france kielbasinska poland and percover of czech republic out in lane seven [Music] and williams away very quickly kielbasinska also having a good start around the first 50 meters keel basinska really getting into a running williams now oh williams had a terrific second half of that bend and he's really pouring it on down the home straight the greek on her inside doing well at this stage and the battle for third between parrot and kielbasinska but no doubt at all about the winner jody williams winning in 22.97 and what an emphatic run by the britain very nice running indeed from jodie williams who after a few years in the wilderness is now starting to really come back and show the talent we knew she had as a teenager and was demonstrating amply on the international stage with those international titles and as you can see there she had a fantastic start and that bend was absolutely magnificent there she's run a fantastic 400 meters recently as well but look at the lead she already has coming off that bend there and also looking really relaxed it's not really tightening up or anything there she's easing up now and the gap between her and the rest of the field is quite staggering there could run there from the greek athlete next to her and also nice to see that anakil basinska is coming through for the third automatic qualifying spot for the polish team but what a run from jodie williams who after many years of injuries is coming back into great shape now having relocated to the us a while ago lives in trains in phoenix and she is really the one to beat in the final on sunday if you ask me oh without a doubt but also a good run though from spanish on the inside she made the final of the 100 meters with the season's best and this was a first outing just looking at my notes her first outing over 200 meters this year she's coming as a late substitute for maria beli bakarsi in this event as well and we saw a great substitute coming in for bella bakassi in the 400 meters williams enjoying a little moment in the spotlight this evening here in mid gosh well that's the last action of the evening as it counts towards the european team championship super league title one more event on the track to come the mixed four by 400 meter relay a non-scoring event just to emphasize it won't count towards the team standings and there will be a b under the a race as well so i'm just looking at the start lists now that are coming through so the first one will consist of great britain and northern ireland spain and france and then the remaining teams well before we get on to that just a quick thought then i mean we've had lots of heat we've had heats in all the sprints events williams very impressive just there we as we see confirming her time 22.95 spanodaki hatsurigi just 500 outside of her personal best in her first 200 meter out in gilbert also gets through to the final with para taking fourth poles staying until the very end they love their athletics in poland great success over the years as well there's confirmation of the athletes getting through to the final and it's para of france and latvia of finland the two women with 23.58 who get through paula sevilla getting through as well so there we see it split actually i'm just checking were there nine women who were given we'll have to check on that but you can check the live results on europeanathletics.org probably already know about that if you're watching this live stream coming to you from big gosh and you are right phil there is actually nine women qualified and it is because the remaining two that are based on fastest times have both got 23 58 so presumably can't be quite split by thousands of a second either it does seem that way well they can't because they wear different heats is actually fortunately a nine-lane track there we have the b race of the non-scoring mixed four by 400 meters as i said great britain and northern ireland spain and france in this b race and it is actually a nice opportunity for athletes to also show their form i was at the warm-up track yesterday and listening to some of the teams as they were discussing the relay [Music] spots and one of the british team coaches mentioned the fact that this championships really is a chance for everyone that is here to prove their form to show that they can run a relay so regardless whether you are in the mixed one or individual one it really shows whether you have to understand the tactics for the relay and it's a great opportunity for the younger ones as well to go out there and represent their country on the international stage of course a mixed relay also at the world championships in doha later this year but here we have the b rays french team consisting of maurice trinkler sally and han always leading off the team there [Music] and on there inside in lane three the british team consisting of baker liverpool turner and this and as you can see there on the lineup a lot of these teams really with a lot of young faces giving them the opportunity to run a lot of these will be brought in as backups for the individual relays as well so it's a good little run out for them today in this mixed relay that is not only a world championship event but also an olympic event next year so from the inside great britain and northern ireland spain in lane 4 and france in lane 5. again it is down to the team to decide the order so that's why you see the spaniards actually starting off with a woman and the other two relays starting off with men and that's where team tactics do come into play because for now it will look as if france and great britain northern ireland will be leading by quite a bit but the spaniards will of course catch up once their men are running yes we've got very much the substitutes the teams running here but mixed relay is becoming an ever more popular part of international athletics competitions you were in yokohama at the world relays earlier this year and it was a thrilling race so let's see how team tactics here are playing out as mentioned of course the french and the british relay will be the first two to hand over the baton as is the case with men racing women but i'm quite intrigued to see how this all pans out with spain of course then having ground to make up it's a bit of a mental side of things as well there is we can see first two coming on the home straight i think they're pretty evenly spaced out still bearing in mind that the stagger in the relay looks slightly different than it does in individual races so pay attention to where they are handing over the baton i think the french team they're very close he's tied up all looked horribly wrong for the french though i think the judge is going to be reviewing that very very difficult there but the british team confidently there you can see yasmin miller taking the lead there now she moves on the inside lane and of course it's getting interesting now where the spaniard echeveri whether he can close the gap that has significantly been built up there on the first leg and then you can close this gap a little but it's a very evenly split race there between the brits and the french so far but now this is where it gets interesting where we can see echeverry closing the gap a bit as he moves past the women on the outside miller still leading so far but the spaniard now overtaking the two women and handing over to aviles his teammate and as you can see there the brits with a different tick tactic have got another woman as do the french so we will see three women in this leg and then on the final leg there will be four uh three men as well so [Applause] very evenly split here [Music] quite intrigued they're impressive confident running from jessica turner of great britain in northern ireland who's now taking the lead with 200 meters to go really building up quite a gap there and for france zali is really nicknacked with a spaniard now all three men are getting the batons off their teammates but great britain and northern ireland really dominant here and i am very intrigued to see what the two relays here in this b race can do half for france is very keen to close the gap on the back straight so he doesn't have to run around as they go around the bend but those two relays who are catching up with the brits have of course a lot more ground work to do nips for great britain and northern ireland is hanging on for dear life the french athletes now starting to tire a bit and airtalk or spain catching up with the frenchmen but great britain in northern ireland take the win in this mix four by 400 meter relay of course non-scoring in the team three 1940 there for the british team consisting of a lot of youngsters there and of course the links in there again there we can see that very first exchange [Music] i think that may well end up with the french disqualified it was a handover that was well well well outside of the zone we'll wait and see good second leg from echevardi one of the stalwarts of the improving spanish four by four hundred meter relay teams [Music] just see the replay there of the final leg where nips are very good in northern ireland bringing his team home his father probably well known ralph nibs the very very fine rugby player from the 1980s a very good sprint to himself ralph nims certainly some good genes being passed on to his son i'm just trying to see and it doesn't look like there is actually an a-race schedule tonight no this is the very last action on the track as we see coming home nice win there for the brits alex nibs just 20 years of age he was a four by 400 meters bronze medalist in a british fest at last year's world under 20 championships and this occasion really showing he's one of the rising talents also very good 400 meter hurdler he was in the final of the 400 meters hurdles at the european under 23 championships in yevlow recently and as you can see the stadium has emptied very quickly so yes it's starting to get a little bit cool and britain it may have been a non-scoring race and they may have been bottom of the table at the end of the first day here in big gosh although i think we can expect britain giving their heritage to and the talent of their team to certainly not be at bottom at the end it would be a huge surprise with looking at britain perhaps not challenging for a top position on this occasion but certainly putting up a good showing [Music] great britain having finished third on a couple of occasions including the inaugural european team championships back in 2009 when we're in latvia in portugal and also in 2013. [Music] so there you saw it a little bit earlier the team standings after two events germany leading the way with 24 points poland and finland complete the top three and in the relegation spots spain ukraine sweden switzerland and great britain northern ireland but tomorrow we have another 20 events to be concluded and at 18 on sunday so lots of action still to come over the course of the next two days tomorrow transmission on the european athletics live stream coming to you from big gosh the european athletics team championship super league will start at just before four o'clock local time and the first events to get underway will be the women's pole vault and the men's long jump so as we look at the team standings i think it's time for myself phil mitchell and alongside me michelle samut just to say goody good evening to you we hope you've enjoyed the first day of these european team championships and once again please do join us you
