let me take a one of these request things on the telephone hello is there anybody there let me take one of these request things on the telephone hello is there anybody there Wow hi oh thank goodness you came in there Bessie who is this how are you wait what do you where you phoning in from Walpole Massachusetts Walpole Massachusetts I'm being there for years yeah you've been to [ __ ] for Stadium with a New England Patriots of plays hush my mouth it's faster there Betty what song would you like to hear I'd love to hear China girl okay yeah thank you very much busy yeah we'd love to play Johnny go for you sure it was no need to be a mind that's all we getting out of it yeah what I around 17 I realized I was a mind trapped in a man's body so I mean this is really quite embarrassing to talk about you know anything to do with mine in America it's embarrassing to talk because you get killed by clowns over there according to good minds you probably would have been a good mind it was it was kind of a revolutionary company that I was with and because they spoke well that's not a mime that's why they were revolutionary no wait and also you tried to you study to be a monk yeah I realized one day when I was around 18 that I was a monk in a minds body no not yes I kind of you know I I you know I was young fancy free and Tibetan Buddhism appealed to me at that time I thought there's salvation it didn't really work then I went through Nietzsche Satanism Christianity pottery and ended up singing there's been a long road what kind of audience you're going to come back to face I don't know what do you think I don't know I'm thinking in the kind of way you may have to create a whole new scene for yourself know what can't qualify that I'll just come back and play my songs the last verses grow those the last verse to me it's math man-hands misery on to man it deepens like a coastal shelf so get out as soon as you can and don't have any kids yourself that's an English power minutes so you didn't like your mom and I know what they done to you is over dog there's a funny note in that one you see what I'm trying to get up no I'm even more confused when I first started but oh I don't know I still going through tubby the to burn by cause you're big yeah yeah yeah I got a I got my own side plastic kind of an art site that really the idea is to help graduate students find some kind of way to show their work and get known without having to pay huge Commission's to dealers who usually take about 50% of what an artist makes so a better deal than you had in the 70s in it with your I just see mine bad you'll get about 10% of your total fee well I wasn't that lucky because you made nothing for you nothing at a lovely wardrobe oh yeah lot of good it does you when you're kind of you know trying to find someplace to live when you dress like that look at the fat yes what insane outside obviously might befall he's got a knitted cozy and his legs missing in his arms to be sitting at least wearing like a fur thing and wants to know if the rooms available [Music] I'd be taller than sorry if you put Clive on his back he beat alright now listen you've got these high heels the very high heel shoes well I'll give you five foot ten and a half yes David I'm still big Bowie you read your reviews and you when you when your new album comes with a new album comes out you really look to see what they say I love reading other people's reviews especially if it's something I don't like very much yes person's talking sense in the next weakness to you David Boggs that guy just doesn't understand really really he's got his own agenda probably in the pay of a record person exposed to Jenkins is one of my all-time favorite albums she was she was kind of a socialite in the thirties in New York and was so famous that she could pay people or bribe them to come and see her sing and she was probably the worst singer ever in in America but she thought she could do opera and she would do these little recitals or soirees in her pad in East Side somewhere and all the local Doyle's would go round and watch her and laugh secretly what she thought she was getting a bigger and bigger fan base so she booked herself a Carnegie Hall it sold out in a matter of minutes and everybody when she started singing just fell into the aisles nobody could believe that this woman could be so awful she died about a month later of a presumably a broken heart but she's one of my all-time greats she's well for those who haven't had the Florence Foster Jenkins experience yeah we've got some a little piece of her from her album here have a listen and this is legitimate - we haven't made this up this is taken from her album I'm gonna cover one of the things [Music] and she brings it home to this rug there's a note here she can't quite reach [Music] [Applause] it's called the glory with for question marks of the human voice yeah it's a wonderful picture of her she was a big lady I got the most extreme you a story of your eyes story of my eyes let me take one out well when I was about 12 or 13 I had a very good friend called George and probably the person at the time that I liked even more than George was his girlfriend and I unfortunately started trying to date her and so quite rightly he hit me and I ended up in the hospital it paralyzed the pupil so it's a very simple story but there wasn't music that that the engage or was it this obscure mashup of it all it was really it was it was really the music and the showmanship of it all on the line with mr. Boies this is Paige Paige tell them where you're from hi I'm from Puyallup Washington yeah he wallet yes fine I'll let that go completely it took me 20 years to learn how to pronounce it oh that's so much better thank you I mean Paige what what would you like us to play for you well you know my brother used to lip-sync your songs back when lip-synchs were bagging everything oh that's correct when lip syncs were big what does that mean exactly was it like I was pretty much asleep in the eighties but is it saying I should predict like if is it like a milli vanilli thing you know talking about Wow and what weather like shows locally lip-synching shows and stuff really yeah they had contests did your brother ever win I think he usually came in second to his best friend sorry I'm sorry so tell me yeah well you know he used to do modern love in let's dance and [Applause] absolutely adored supplied to you I have to I have to bring this up this this pin is actually a great only supposed to be they know that said that was talking about the pin yeah that's like there's Jandra here I have to talk about this which piece of green tundra that is a high honor from the from the country of France is it not yeah from the French government allo Alou yeah they're keeping tabs on the exams on me yeah they give you give you an award a microphone just to make sure you don't sell your war to anybody this is what tell us what that award is well it's the order of Arts and Letters and I'm not sure if that's the knight of the order of the arson it is or commander because they sent me both which was wait you didn't have to go and get it in a formal ceremony thing is with awards they expected to turn up for them and I don't go because I don't want to have to do that to get an award right because they say well look you come here and we'll give you this award for being a great person and if you don't want to come we're going to give it to somebody else and so I said well that's fair enough and give it to someone else because I only want one that you really mean right anyway I told the French that I couldn't come over for the award thing and they put it in an envelope and sent it to my house that was the hippest kind of thing I'd ever assess the only one I ever wear well I got this buy envelope yeah you're just going through your like mail and gas bill electric bill oh my order of leather of our to slap that on and you know the amazing thing is that you know through all that well that created creativity through drugs and you got through it in the end yeah I mean yeah it's well I guess all that period was pretty fine you know I was the later years that later part of 70s but that my story in terms of drugs and the alcohol and all that is no different than anybody else's and it's almost a textbook stories except you said what I did yeah tell me because it faster been researched so everybody you saw a guy on CNN a doctor was talking about the effect that could Kane had on the Bingaman brain nobody changed your mind about drugs but certainly had an effect of making him not want to take drugs oh that actually yes no that didn't put me off at all actually when I saw I don't know I saw that in like it was in the seventies and I saw that and I said whoa too cold I didn't look like it was they're showing a brain of cocaine users and all holes that were in it then great huge holes I thought yeah that's me they didn't occur to me that this was a bad thing I'm the gunman coming for quite a while later hell of a beautiful once you'll get a kick out of that she's an incredible looking woman and she could do better you're right Oh agree with you more you are lucky look at that yep she's gorgeous see that little baby how old is she now 22 months that's wonderful but you're a lazy dad aren't you don't do the nappies and stuff are you kidding me no you shouldn't be proud about that you should be somewhat nice not proud on just you know I'm resolved that this is not my you know and I'm resigned is more the word learning and that pretty resolve believe me now simultaneously and you haven't have a brand new album just art which has already been a huge hit any minute is is it actually out here in the States it's just out a week or so yo is that you and um the title that is scary monsters and yeah one might feel there's some link between that title and the fact that you play something that could be described as a scary monster in the play but is that just cancel it synchronicity synchronicity I mean I what is why not give me exactly what you said what kind of a coincidence that it's well let's go into the Union side of it it no it's um it's something I was working on as I say before the thing actually was cemented it's quite likely that the idea of Elephant Man did stay with me as a title but I know just on my memory reference that it actually came from a Kellogg's cornflakes packet on the back they were giving away I said oh by your oat buy your copy of the black copy you're gonna cop well these days you may well get a bit portfolio of kennels cortland by your packet of Kellogg's cornflakes and inside you will find scary monsters and superheroes so presumably found Superman and right nice for r2z we're coming back to England intermittently we're doing the Phoenix festival any truth in the room Ziggy so there anyway you were running bound out did you yeah yeah not a chance no I wouldn't like to chance in hell I wouldn't have thought so not just the hair just there [Applause] the first one is owned by Richard Branson on Virgin Airlines no they're fabulous Virgin Airlines are great except this one it's a 747 200 series and they've left the old chairs on the Chinese chairs but they've just put virgin material on it and you can't you know it won't go anyway so and so a slip like that but I really just got I've been up for 29 hours this is my straight buddy how are you doing good you used to stay up for seven to eight days at a time I did indeed yes a lot of friends you've got to give friends time was that the drums but they're attracted the friends you mean the reason I had friends probably yeah disappeared when I stopped doing drugs so I think you're probably right on the money I've grown up as much as he's grown hopefully I'm going up a bit faster because I've got to be a bit a bit further there yeah but it's um it's it's been the most rewarding thing for me and probably the most fulfilling thing in my life but did you actually tell them you mean about all the things you went through in the 70s in Los Angeles with drugs and say oh yes you know it's all about this yes well what is because I wonder myself what can I tell only I'm the last tooth well what the work their sex problems have you had no not about sex problems but I mean drugs you've done and I'm sure I can find the books I want to be there you know help her through the dictionary help her build a library up things like that a teacher walking and talking stuff myself I mean it now it's like ideal because she's had a conversation today this just unbelievable it was approximately Kathy hello darling hello buddy there's a character on Big Brother who talks just oh I have to make as many decisions as anybody else every day yes I do have to make decisions but you consider myself fairly responsible I presume I wasn't doubting your urine self-responsibility bland saying you are better equipped than most people to make that kind of firm decision about your own future I will do a I would not what you said at all that's what I met if it's a if it's aa if it's not what I said [Music] [Music] so young [Music]
