time I'm hosting these awards so I don't care anymore um I'm joking I never did MBC clearly don't care either fifth time so I mean Kevin Hart was fired from the Oscars because of some offensive tweets hello lucky for me the Hollywood Foreign Press can barely speak English and they have no idea what Twitter is so I got offered this gig by fax so let's go out with a bang let's have a laugh at your expense shall we remember they're just jokes we're all gonna die soon and there's no sequel so yeah remember that but you all look lovely old old up UK marina limos I came here in a limo tonight and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman so no shush it's a it's her daughter I feel sorry for okay that must be the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to her and her dad was in wild whacked um but tonight isn't just about the people in front of camera in this room of some of the most important TV and film executives in the world people from every background but they all have one thing in common they're all terrified of Ronan Farrow he's coming for you he's coming for you look talking of all you perverts it was a big year it was a big year for pedophile movies surviving r.kelly leaving Neverland two popes I don't care I don't care many talented people of color were snubbed in major categories unfortunately there's nothing we can do about that the Hollywood Foreign Press are all very very racist so fifth time so we were gonna do an in memoriam this year but when I saw the list of people that had died it wasn't diverse enough they just no it was mostly white people and I thought now not on my watch maybe next year let's let's see what happens no one cares about movies anymore no one goes to cinema no one really watches network TV everyone's watching Netflix this show should just be me coming out going well done Netflix you win everything good night but no no we got a drag out for three hours you could binge watch the entire first season of afterlife instead of watching the show that that's a show about a man who wants to kill himself because his wife dies of cancer and it's still more fun than this okay spoiler alert season two is on the way so in the end he obviously didn't kill himself just like Jeffrey Epstein shut up I know he's your friend but I don't care do you like to make your own way air and your own playing didn't yet right but seriously most films are awful lazier remakes sequels I've heard a rumor but there might be a sequel to Sophie's Choice I mean that had just been Meryl Streep going what it's gotta be this one then all the best actors have jumped to Netflix and HBO you know and the actors who've just do Hollywood movies now do fantasy adventure nonsense they wear masks and capes and really tight costumes their job isn't acting anymore it's going to the gym twice a day and taking steroids really but we got a we got an award for most rip junkie no no point we know he'd win that Martin Scorsese the greatest living director made the news for his controversial comments about the Marvel franchise he said they're not real cinema and they remind him of theme parks I agree although I don't know what he's doing hanging around theme parks he's not big enough to go on the rides tiny right the Irishman was amazing it was amazing um that was my fact mostly it was great long but amazing it wasn't the only epic movie once upon a time in Hollywood nearly three hours long Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him even Prince Andrews like come on leo mate you know you're nearly 50 son the world got to see James Corden as a fat [ __ ] he was also in the movie cats but no one saw that and the reviews are shocking I saw one that said this is the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs right but Dame Judi Dench defended the film saying it was the role she was born to play because she I can't do this next day because she loves nothing better than plonking herself down on the carpet lifting her leg and licking furball furball she's old school and it's the last time okay Oh Apple roared into the TV game with a morning show a superb drama yeah a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing made by a company that runs sweatshops in China so will you say you woke but the companies you work for I mean unbelievable Apple Amazon Disney if Isis started a streaming service you'd call your agent wouldn't you so if you do win an award tonight but don't use it as a platform to make a political speech right you're in no position to lecture the public about anything you know nothing about the real world most of you spend less time in school than Greta Thumb Berg so if you win right come up except you little award take your agent and your God so it's already three hours long right let's do the first award the first award the first award is for Best Actor in a television series Musical or Comedy to present the award are a couple of actors off the telly what can I say Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I like to not know what's gonna happen I like making memories sometimes I do go this crazy around my colleagues just so that they can tell their friends I did it rather than talk about myself just briefly I want to just talk about my John Rowe stand-up comedy is an incredibly American John rrah I don't think any other country could produce this many comedians and unbeknownst to many people in this audience I don't think there's a pinion that it exists in this country that is not represented in a comedy club by somebody each and every one of you has the champion in the room we watch you guys fight but when we're together we talk it out I know comics that are very racist and I watch them on stage and there was laughs and I'm like that means that don't get mad at them don't hate them we go upstairs and have a beer sometimes I even appreciate the artistry that they paint their racist opinions with man it's not that serious the First Amendment is first for a reason the Second Amendment is just in case the first one doesn't work out we gotta let some air out of the ball man the country's getting a little tight it doesn't feel like it's ever felt in my lifetime so tonight I am honored that my colleagues are here and comedy and in music I want everyone in America right now to look at me look at me smoking indoors I didn't ask anybody I just did it what are they gonna do kick me out before I get the prize now early this is called leverage the thing I like best about tonight was that so so many people from different parts of my life like friends that I grew up with here in DC friends of mine from Ohio then and now friends of mine from comedy clubs all the musicians that blew my mind you guys have no idea how inspired me I want to give a special shout-out to my og Tony woods Miles Davis has a quote it's one of my favorite Miles Davis said so much cool but one of the things he said I was loved he said it took me years to learn how to play like myself you know he would watch other musicians and he would try to play like dizzy a bird all the guys who were great Tony woods is my Disney and bird if I was a Myles I was trying to play like you were you were the first person I ever saw to do it absolutely right who feel this he told the truth there's something so true about this genre when done correctly that I will fight anybody that gets me a true practitioner of this art forms way because I know you're wrong this is the truth and you are obstructing it I'm not talking about the content I'm talking about the art form the understand do we have an agreement and what I really want to be saying tonight and I'm glad I get the platformer do it I'm gay I'm gay and I can't wait to see what this does for my career being gay like this so many special shout outs one of the main architects is to come back in the century my brother and my mentor the mighty Stan Lathan I'd never dreamed that I would be able to work with someone as great as you these last 5 specials straight fire I wouldn't want to do another special real oral tradition in our house I knew the word griot when I was a little boy a griot was a person in Africa who was charged with keeping the stories of the village everyone would tell gril the stories and they would remember them all so that they could tell future generations when they got old they'd tell him to someone else and they'd say in Africa when a griot dies it's like a library was burnt down and my mother used to tell me before I ever thought about doing , she said you should be a griot and she filled me with every story of black life you know she's educated in African American Studies and she would let me understand the context that I was being raised in I'm being raised in a hostile environment that I have to tame but Tyler was 14 years old I was in nightclubs mastering an adult world she's terrified crack epidemic was going on and my mother were here gunshots outside and be scared of death maybe it's my son but early in my career you remember mom he used to sit in the club with me she'd do a full day of work you'd be back there fall asleep just waiting for me to go on she would watch my show every night do you know how long that car ride is home how many of you have ever heard your mother say jokes were a little too much tonight son [Applause] I was a soft kid I was sensitive I cry easy and I would be scared to fistfight and my mother used to tell me this thing I don't even know if you remember but you said this to me more than once you said son sometimes you have to be a lion so you can be the lamb you really are I talked it like a lion I'm not afraid of any of you when it comes word to word I will gab with the best of them just so I can chill and be me and that's why I love my art form because I understand every practitioner of it whether I agree with them or not I know where they're coming from they want to be heard they got something to say there's something they noticed they just want to be understood love this genre it saved my life so tonight my I would like to honor you in a very special way that I cannot do on my own but because now I will land with great and influential friends I'd like to ask my man Thundercat to come out on
