let me start look on a message out later hello everyone i hope everyone can hear me okay uh let me just confirm if you can hear me okay please uh post in the chat so by the way we have uh kushal shah with us uh we have uh interviewed him before as well he's a petroleum engineer by his degree and um he then pursued masters in industrial engineering i guess right yes from us then he did masters in data science we have had a session with him before it was a recorded session where we talked about how he did his masters for free so if you are planning to pursue masters in us and if you want to if you're worried about the financial cost you can watch that video now kushal is joining tesla as a data science intern from monday so we'll we'll be talking about his tesla internship the whole process experience and also uh today's theme is data science internship so if you have any questions related to data science internship or general data science question please start posting we will pick questions in a timely order uh but before that kushal thank you very much for uh coming on on this live and let's discuss your uh tesla internship experience so how did you get internship at tesla so i for uh before five months ago i started preparing for that so i got my first internship in last december but uh i was planning to do a co-op starting from fall in tesla so i started networking i also applied online but i heard from one of the recruiters from tesla that you are they get 70 000 applicant applications for one job seventy thousand so that's a very a pretty huge number so i knew that my or my chances for from only online application would be very less so what i did was i started networking i connected with a few of the recruiters or like so in tesla if you see there are full-time uh recruiters for full-time roles and recruiters for internship roles and for the internship roles uh they have a domain specification as well so a supply chain then uh manufacturing computer or like a software development engineers something like that you know so i started connecting with the people of my interest and the hiring managers and hr people and one of the hr posted this particular opportunity and i reached out to him and i said that okay i might be a good fit for this position would you be able to have a quick chat with me and then i started uh had a i had a conversation with him he connected me to the hiring manager hiring manager entered with me and i got the internship so i think it was all about networking i see so that was an hr from tesla yeah oh so you connected with hr from tesla on linkedin yes and that's how it started okay so the tip here is networking linkedin linkedin is very powerful when it comes to this kind of opportunities uh one of the complaint that people have usually is when they send a connection request to other people usually their connection requests are not accepted they get ghosted so do you have any thoughts on how how do you send a connection request so that the person on the other end accepts it i just felt the same kind of difficulty so uh when i i was on the same boat but after our last uh recorded uh interview i got around 600 of requests from different people on linkedin so let's think about it from my perspective okay now uh i'm not going to accept 600 people or 600 requests because it would be too much for me to answer all of their questions right so i always check that whether a person has sent a personalized invite or not so in uh linkedin you have the option that uh uh that when you send a connection request you can tell a person that why you are connected connecting with her okay oh so add a note actually yes add a note so that would uh help the other person to understand why you are connecting with it now if you are a recruiter you would be getting like literally like 100 000 200 000 requests for like a week or so you know so it would be very hard for you to cope up with everyone so you have uh i specifically wrote that i'm uh i'm connecting because of this purpose if i'm just connecting you know by by random choice that uh okay this person is looks good and i need to include my or include him or her into my profile what i would do is i would write that hey see our domain is connecting and uh your journey is inspiring and i would i am following the similar journey and i would like to connect all with you uh online for future reference you know so that's how i connect with him and uh with him or her or anyone so that you know people get to know that why i am connecting with it all right great also everyone will start picking up the question but let me ask one last question to kushal so when you applied in tesla you said you applied through networking and then they did interview now i know you're joining tesla so based on your comfort level you can talk about the whole interview process um yeah sure i can do that yeah so go ahead uh so first that oh there was a hr call phone interview where he asked me some specific questions about you know behavioral things and so on and so forth which was very easy sorry my way which was very easy then uh he connected me to hiring manager and hiring manager did up behavior around as well so it was uh it went well and then there was a technical round and in technical round they asked me a lot of things regarding data science a lot of things and the key to convert this kind of interview is to always check the profile of the person who is going to take your interview so what i did was uh if you see data science there are it is a very huge domain like let's say uh you can i can at least name 20 algorithms for data science right now okay and uh even though if you even if i ask you some questions you might not be knowing as well because you know it's a huge topic it's a huge topic right so uh the a day before my interview i went through all of their profiles and i i completely knew that they were working on time service so that was one of the component which i never knew the time series i knew the basics but i did not know at the advance table and uh there are three interviewers and i saw their profile and all of them was working in time series so i prepared well for only specifically for time series i see and um i uh they asked me i think uh i think 10 or 15 questions only on time series and i i actually answered very pretty well regarding that so that's why i think i converted that so that's how it's a key that always uh do some background check and always prepare for that but in advance do you have a way to know who is going to interview you yeah or whenever they send you an email right they specify that who is going to interview you oh so tesla yeah okay i don't think many companies do that but maybe tesla is doing it which is good so now till till date i have interviewed with many companies and all of them sent me the name of the person who was going to interview me oh wow okay that's interesting very good because see you as you say data science has nlp gans computer vision such a huge field so if your interview is working in computer vision maybe you can prepare better better for computer vision got it all right so now let's start taking questions from people and while we are answering those questions if you want to discuss more about your tesla experience or other internship experience we can discuss that while answering those questions i'll take first question which is from garvid khandelwal he's a commerce mathematics student can i become a data scientist garwith yes i will answer this question garvey definitely you can become data scientist kushal is kushal is a petroleum engineer he became a data scientist i know i have interviewed a couple of other become background people who have become data scientist or data analyst so for you i would suggest like targeting data analyst career first but let's say if you're good in math and statistics if you're ready to learn programming definitely you can target data science as well all right uh kushal if yeah unless you don't you want to add something we can move on to the next question i think uh we can move on so atif azad is asking how to get internship in such big companies i think you covered some of it but if you want to elaborate more yeah so always start networking because in big companies they have many applications for each of the job requests so getting into a big company would be very hard if you are only applying online and linkedin is a very good platform and recruiters post about uh about the like you know opportunities over there so let's say in my case i was already connected to the person who posted about that internship okay and he was the person who was hiring for that so if i would have applied online my application would have been doomed but since i directly contacted the hr he forwarded my resume to a hiring manager so that's the key always start networking uh have a conversation with recruiter and you can go from there and another thing i would like to add is uh make sure your linkedin profile looks good make sure you have added all your experiences properly make sure there are no grammatical mistakes and even if you can engage on different type of post in linkedin and if you can connect with different data scientists machine learning engineers throughout the world then you will learn a lot and it will make your profile stronger as well let's say you are engaging with some data scientist and if uh let's say that data scientist writes a nice recommendation from you for you then you know that will show up in your profile so linkedin is very important i i personally didn't realize the power of linkedin until last two years actually so kushal i i spend minimum half an hour to 45 minutes every day on linkedin and it is you said it very right networking is the key here i would like to add few points over here so whenever you are making a linkedin profile you have to add everything whatever you have done in your professional and your educational career in addition to that of having or there is a section about yourself okay make sure you write very well summary of yourself in a professional manner whether you are connecting to any person whenever you are adding a note make sure that your note is in a professional way don't say hey uh i uh hey what are you doing or what's up i mean that's not a professional way linkedin is very professional in that terms so people won't accept or people who won't have a conversation with you if you start like that and make sure that your profile picture or everything is kind of you know uh professional if that is not uh that would add a bad impression as well so having a perfect linkedin profile is a must before you start reaching out to anybody anyone not only hr anyone so please emphasize on that and that would help you in a longer long run all right adhinat kolapuri is asking roadmap to become data analyst adena i have a video on that so please watch it bhushan devulkar is asking how difficult is it to get a job job as a data analyst i'll answer that i don't think it's very difficult uh it's if you prepare well it's there are plenty of job opportunities abhishek sharma is asking is he working from india are you working from india no i will be i mean yes okay so he's in usa uh because of covered maybe it's a virtual like a remote internship but let's see if the whole pandemic situation wasn't there or which office would you be working in in that case uh san francisco bay area palo alto palo alto all right what skills are required for applying for a data scientist intern so i would i would just quickly answer that question because i think we have discussed that before so in terms of skills you need to know about python or r as a programming language sql is something you need to know machine learning general algorithm math statistics uh and at least one bi tool like tableau or power bi do you want to add anything to that kosher uh yeah i would like to add a specific things when we say that you need to know you don't have to know the codes behind that okay uh you need to know the procedure of how to apply an algorithm google is always there for you to help help it out believe me even today i do not know how are the codes of matplotlib or cbon which is a very basic um data visualization libraries in pa in python but i know how to google it that's the key okay so when you know the basic stuff that is enough don't try to mug anything data science has never been about mugging the codes or something like that it's all about the analytical skill set so develop something like that and you can go from there all right ziyad ullah is asking which software of skills is best for data analysis tableau power bi or by using python which one have more scope as a data analyst i would say all of it you learn see when it comes to bi tool zia either learn tableau or power bi you don't need to learn all type of bi tools there are like 100 tools so just learn one tool and and then learning the remaining tools will be easier and python you need to know at least one programming language either python or r i've uh i've seen people asking this question again and again so i need to clarify this i think i would like to add a few points uh tableau or power bay or let's all tricks or google analytics or there are a lot of tools out there okay and you will see a lot of tools mentioned in the job description i would say if you know the table learning power bi would be a piece of cake for you okay so know only one tool okay if you know the python learning r would be a piece of cake answer for you okay so know only one tool at any time it's okay second thing again data science is not about uh learning tools it's never been about learning tools so please emphasize on that and uh try to develop your skill set uh in math and statistics to get understands of understanding of algorithms and how to implement it in different uh tools because uh in i have interviewed for 50 plus position 50 plus companies just for data science intern position and they have never asked me about uh how uh please quote this in python they have never asked me okay or show me your data visualize uh data visualization skill set they never ask this kind of questions what they ask is okay uh how uh tell me the optimization algorithm behind svm that how does svm optimizes the margin or the boundary that's one of the questions you know so getting uh knowing the algorithms how does they work how to implement that that's what data science is about it's never been about learning this tools please put that in your mind okay atul is asking how much salary of pressure can expect depends it's a very vast question so uh are you asking for usa or india so let's let me uh let me tell you for both if you are from india uh like in uh india the mentality is very orthodox so if you are from iit or nt you will get a higher pay if you are from a media mediocre college you won't get that much pay but i would say for data scientists entry level data scientist you can expect around eight to 12 lakhs per annum or that uh for in usa you can expect anywhere between eighty thousand dollars to hundred and seventy thousand dollars for antelope data scientist position depending upon location so let's say if you are in oklahoma or you might get 80 or 85 because living costs and everything in oklahoma is very cheap if you are in bay area you might get 150 or 170 because the living cost and uh every the other expenses are very high so depending upon that you get the salary range justified and it's same in india as well if you are in bangalore of course you expect higher package versus if you are in let's say some small town indoor in madhya pradesh yeah it's less so yes it's a very vast range and atul there are websites such as levels.fyi or glassdoor or pay scale where you can search based on a company position city and they will tell you the salary range so you can look into those websites okay we'll move on to the next question raju m is asking what are the skills required for data analyst and please explain the data analysis career this is again a very broad question sorry we have discussed those skills before so i will move on to the next question again to summarize sql python business understanding as question mentioned like which algorithm you'll apply for what given problem these are all general skills okay uh harsh weather in powertale is asking i think similar question so i'll skip it madusha is asking is finishing masters he is must to start in turn as a data scientist no mature nowadays we are getting into a world where some companies don't even require degree you don't need to even have bachelor's you know some companies have started that route so yeah if you uh like i have seen my friends like who was petroleum engineers and they uh started their career as data scientists right after getting matches in into petroleum so i don't think so that uh it is there is a bar of degree or level of education that you must have to get some kind of jobs uh you can do it if you have the skill set and you if you are willing to learn that particular domain uh library ahmad is asking what level of math do you use uh i would say basic level of like 11th or 12th back in india or i would say linear algebra price must basic of probability and statistics and a little bit of mathematical modeling so with that i think you are good to understand all of the algorithms which has been developed in machine learning is asking what is kosher strength in data science what are what are your strengths and what are your areas of interest i would say my my strength is mathematics because that's how that has always been my strength that i was good at mathematics and that's why i started pursuing data science as well and second i am a gujarati so i know the business very well my father is a businessman and uh when uh when it comes to business uh my i think my understanding of like getting uh my like you know willingness to understand any business is very good so data science is about two things domain knowledge and mathematics if you know this too you can excel very quickly because programming language or bi tools anyone can learn that but this just skill set is i think the most and i think that's my core strength and i think this is a core strength for any data scientist like people get into fancy tools you know they start using fancy tools but if your fundamentals of math and statistics is not solid that will that will affect you right so i have started math and statistics uh playlist for data science so you guys can watch it in a very simple language i explain theory and i explain python code as well so go check out that playlist we'll move on to the next question uh akash is asking can fresher get can get into big companies i think the question is yes so if you look at kushal he has done his master but he's he's actually refresher right and he got into tesla it's uh it's super easy like you just know oh okay if you if you do not have any workouts i would say it is a little bit harder than uh the person who has the perk x that is definitely yes but given that it's not uh that you cannot get it you can easily get it and people have got it it's all about you know uh clicking at the right time at the and at the right place so uh it's more about luck as well that uh if you connect with right people and uh if you get the opportunity at the right time then you are good uh otherwise you are doomed so i have seen people who is who are very intelligent but they haven't got any internship okay so believe me it's more about luck as well but given that yes you can you can easily get not an issue okay siri is asking how long does it take for kosher to learn data science because you come from a petroleum engineering background and now you got into in internship at tesla so how long did it take for you to learn data science so uh for learning data science i would say two months two months is more than enough to you know start building the understanding of what data science is uh getting uh you cannot know data science completely never because that requires at least i would say 100 years of work x because yeah yeah exactly so that is there is no upper limit uh the lower limit you can set uh you can achieve that in two months after that how much you practice it depends upon that okay so once you take the data set once you start applying your skill set on some projects or problems like uh the the problems given on the kaggle website or something like that that's when you start learning about how the different algorithm works and when to apply what algorithm so i would say two two months is enough and uh if you want to be on the advanced side of the data science i would say seven or eight months but when i say seven on or eight months i would expect that you are working 12 hours a day for straight seven to eight months okay that's how i uh calibrate my seven to eight months if you are not working like that you can calibrate according to you as well got it and uh just just in case you don't know so kushel after doing his petroleum engineering b tech from india came to us did his ms in industrial engineering then he did amazon data science actually so he spent whatever one and a half to two years in studying data science so that was a time period he was studying it right but yeah if you're doing self study then uh i think kushal already answered it dsk7 is asking how can one build their profile in data science to get notified by recruiters uh do do many projects two internships so if you do not uh let's say if you do not have any computer science background right i i would say getting a first internship would be harder for you but uh start like start working with some companies start getting internship in data science do some two to three internships in various startups like companies and then uh build your profile like that so that you have a core work ex and once then uh you can start reaching out to people and once you uh when you are reaching out you should be confident that okay uh let's say you are or you are reaching out to guy with a guy who is in facebook right so you should be knowing the expectations that uh what uh what it is look like to work in facebook as a data scientist so if you check that out you know the what or what kind of expectations are there for that particular company and uh you know that whether you will be able to fulfill that or not that's how you calibrate and that's how you reach out okay so if you do not feel that you are or you are eligible for facebook don't go further i would say start with some you know startup level company build your profile and once you're confident shift to that if that answers your question i think yep another way is i know many students who give talks in technical conferences so let's say if you prepare well and if you are able to give a talk in some technical ai data science related conference then what happens is in that conference many recruiters will be present so if you're a speaker and if you give a good presentation recruiters will reach out to you you know so that would be one other way open source contribution is another way open source contribution don't think you have to be like super smart you can still fix small bugs in let's say pandas or whatever data science packages are there so open source is another way to build networking and to get notified all right uh right i'll take the next question maurice jose is asking should i focus on machine learning if i want to apply for a data analyst position i think the answer is no will it help in the future yes if you have machine learning knowledge it's an add-on it will help in the future but it's not a requirement for a data analyst role specifically if you're talking about data scientist role then yes machine learning is something you need to prepare for om bure is asking i am mechanical engineer i have done data analytics courses can i apply for data analyst internship ombud we have interviewed couple of mechanical mechanical engineers on our channel who became data analyst so please watch those videos you can definitely apply for internship data science is not like a different domain data science is is a discipline that can be applied into different domains it could be mechanical engineering petroleum you know it's kind of a sub domain within all kind of domains so don't think that if you're a mechanical engineer you're kind of transitioning into a different world you're just applying data science into maybe your field so maybe some mechanical engineering company if they have a data analyst or data scientist role they will prefer you because now you have domain knowledge of mechanical engineering and you know the data science skills right you want to add anything crucial to that no i'm good all right prajwal upadhyay is asking i think the similar question which we covered but let me ask again just in case you have additional tips to share a crucial how to network on linkedin how to send message requests that sound appealing yes [Music] sorry oh my god oh i had a glitch could you repeat so the question is uh how to network on linkedin and how to send message requests that sound appealing so this goes back to our original discussion where you send requests to someone people don't respond usually they don't accept your request so uh let's let me tell you a difference okay so the ones which i do not accept is like you know with no notes or with the notes saying that hey what's up hey what are you doing screw you i don't care yeah hey how are you like you know i'm i'm here for someone who needs uh who needs something okay so uh the ones which i accept is like hey um i uh saw your interview on code basics so uh i'm uh i'm currently learning data science and uh i would like to know a few things about that could you please accept my connection request and have a quick chat with me that's all so it it shows your willingness to learn it's very concise it's very brief uh so let's say uh let me tell you let me tell you what i sent to the recruiters okay hey uh that's just uh i uh i hope you are doing well i saw you on your post regarding this internship at tessa and i'm uh i'm i feel that i might be a good fit for this position i would really appreciate it if you if you can connect with me and have a quick chat regarding this position so that i can uh show you what uh what my skill set looks like and how am i good fit for this position so i'm telling him that okay you have posted this particular job and i'm interested in that that's why i'm connecting you and that's what he's interested in as well because he wants to hire people that's why he posted right so he will see my profile if he feels that okay i might be a good fit fit then he will accept okay so there are two things first i send out note so he will go and send or check my linkedin profile now my linkedin profile has to be better as well if that's not that it's not better he will throw me away so two uh two things first message second linkedin you are golden i will tell you my experience crystal so i get linkedin requests many times where people send the resume and in the first message in the linkedin that add note request itself is hey the world i would like to connect can you review my resume i'm trying to apply but not getting interview call now when you are when you're connecting with someone think about other person's situation like i get 500 messages every day if i start even if i spend one minute in reviewing your resume i have to spend 500 minutes it's it's impossible like for me i have tons of messages in my gmail and my youtube comment in my linkedin it's impossible like i do youtube on part time i have a nine to six job so if you think about other you are that other person and how would you how would you perceive that incoming request if you just apply that common sense then you will know what to write and what to ask for and never in the first conversation never ask for some selfish intention you know like sometimes people send a screenshot of some python errors that they are facing and they're like okay i'm getting this error can you help me no way your connection request is not accepted okay you have to be a little respectful of other person's time start with a good note okay i learned from you i would like to connect to explore more to collaborate whatever then once you build that rapper once you have connection then maybe on a second conversation you can ask for little help but if you start like in a first conversation it's surface a few days back kushal i uh someone sent me a message same like okay can you tell me salaries of data scientists whatever and i didn't have time and that guy asked me a question it is so rude that you are reading my message and not responding nothing what's gonna happen you know that never helps you yeah and uh that actually like converts my attitude as well so next time if person if a other person ask me something i might respond to him because i had a very bad uh experience with someone else as well so please whenever you are reaching out to a person please be humble and if he or she does not reply to you he might be in some difficult situation as well so don't directly assume that he has ignored you he or she has ignored you okay there might be some uh you know some things going on in their life as well because yeah private life as i said think about this person's situation like people send me so many messages like i do youtube for free like look at my channel i don't even have monetization on right now i'm earning zero money like zero money from youtube i do this million weekend i have nine to six job i have family i have things to take care of right a couple of my window curtains are broken i need to fix them there are weeds in my grass i have a life guys give me a break so if you are respectful of other person's situation you can be a better networker you know like you need to learn the basic fundamental principles of networking it's not a rocket science yes all right let's move on to the next question rhythm jane there are several specialization you can do in the field of data science what would you suggest to do if i don't have any background knowledge in the specific topic which recruiter which the recruiters are interested in so redeem i think you are asking a question whether you should specialize in computer vision or nlp which or which domain i would answer that question see depend just pick one domain that you are interested in there are enough opportunities in computer vision nlp reinforcement learning there are enough opportunities in pretty much any area of data science so you just need to pick your own like what what thing you are interested in because if you are working on something you are interested in not and not what specific companies looking for then you can excel at that work i think uh the people's motivation behind getting into data science is salary i've seen that like yes you know just because data scientists have been paid a lot of money that's why people are moving into data science but i would uh only say that say this that if you do not have any domain knowledge or you're not if you do not have domain knowledge you're not going to excel so uh let me tell them or tell a brief about my journey which i already have explained but to uh to answer this question i would like to give you some introduction so i started in industrial engineering with major in supply chain management i saw that there are a lot of uh applications of data science in supply chain which was required and i saw that there is a future in those applications that's why i moved to data science the second thing was my interest in mathematics and statistics when you're asking this kind of question said that uh let's say if you if you ask me the similar question on linkedin by the way i would never answer this question because you are asking asking me that where should i specialize see once you learn the basic of mathematics probability statistics and a little bit of pi any programming language you you will know that how does it interest you if you do not find any interest in those things just move on just do try something else there is a huge buzz regarding data science that's why people are moving but don't be don't be a an animal who is following one heart be be a lion and make your own choices you know what is going to be good for you right so once you once you do when you once you specify some domain if you have some specific questions then reach out to people but uh when you're when you're trying to figure it out you would be knowing you should be knowing whether you you have interest in that or not and even after or even if you do not have any interest in that and even after you are pursuing that you are going to be doomed you are not going to get a like hundred thousand dollars as a data scientist believe me you are going to get screwed all right just shy is asking what are your daily tasks so yes just to clarify kushal is joining tesla on monday so maybe after he has spent some time we can have another conversation to just to know about his life at tesla but do you want to add anything to that question no no all right yeah yeah all right pranay power is asking what are the things required for data science this is a very vague question so so friends please ask a specific questions so that we can answer them better on nikhil gupta hello sir i am a bachelor in mechanical engineering third year interested in data science i have learned c plus i really want to be in this field but sometimes there are problems like job look nikhil is gonna take time don't think there are problems it's it's gonna take time that's a reality you have to have persistence and keep on learning keep on applying it might take six months eight months i know it it could be frustrating if you're looking for a job if you have family who depends on your you know on your income it could be hard but the thing is there are no shortcuts so keep on starting keep on learning i know many mechanical engineers who have become a successful data scientist i'd like to add few things for a year i was just like you because i was from petroleum engineering i started my job in data analysis domain and i did not know any about it okay i believe me i have been through that phase but you will eventually get out of that and you will excel just it's just a matter of time some people get it in like you know like this or some people for some people it takes time but hang in there and you will be colder believe me depends if you have interest or not all right mark honda scotland is asking msc data science after bca is it good or bad from where should we start for data science so it really depends on your uh on the course curriculum and which university you are doing msc data science okay so many universities offer master's in data science program some courses are useless uh some courses are really good so it depends on the university so if you had specified a university or given us some idea about your curriculum uh we would give a specific answer um i would i'd like to add a few things over here so even if you do not uh once you do not know where to start start at something okay what uh what would go wrong you uh you would end up knowing that uh you know that was useless but it's okay you at least knew or you at least got the position where you or you knew that it was useless okay so start from somewhere i started from industrial engineering okay so i i had our interest in data science okay some of the courses from industrial engineering are totally useless but it prepared me to build my career in data science so once you start from something you are going to you are going to be somewhere at least okay so even if it is users it it's okay they say you either win or you learn right so even if you do something there is nothing like losing yes all right giri mother is asking congratulation question on your new role are you fresher or having any relevant experience i think we answered that question he's fresher actually he just did his masters um i would uh i would add no i am not a fresher i had a one year of work ex not one year up to be precise nine months and on the top on top of that i have been working as a research assistant from last two years which has helped me help me to build my profile in data science because my research work was mainly into analytics domain as well so i am not a fresher so okay so i did not know about it sorry so what was your work ex i think it was in india right yeah which company it's a center of excellence for geothermal energy it's a very uh research startup for geothermal energy and but your work experience was it in data science or different domain of different domain i would say okay okay so i think i think that's that's what i was referring to that you don't have any work ex i think in data science other than your research experience of course that that's obviously very valuable but yeah his nine month experience he talked about was in into a different domain okay subba ss is asking can you specify what which to focus and revise for data science jobs in multinational companies i know basic ml and dll included in my course is knowing pytorch other than tensorflow a must um very good question i would say i do not know tensorflow i have worked on it uh for a few occasions but i do not know so it's not uh it's not required skill set i again i let me tell you again programming languages or any tools is not requirement for any mnc if you go to any mnc they would not ask you to uh you know yeah they would or they might be having a basic uh you know a coding interview but that's not about the ml or something like that using python or tensorflow perfect perfect okay they will ask you about or what kind of algorithms you use or something like that okay so if you know the basics of ml and dl i think you're in a good shape to interview for mncs uh it just depends for different teams because let's say uh if i'm going into tesla right so there are two teams i'm i'm in supply chain team okay so for me uh like i had to uh know about the supply chain domain knowledge for other teams they are working in deep learning for all for automatic driving and uh some stuff like that as well for that surprising knowledge is not of any mandatory right so it depends upon different things when you are targeting any mnc the uh the situation would be the same because they have very different domains let's say like finance operations core data science core machine learning so i would say rather than um rather than going into that kind of stuff i would say you are in a good shape if you know the basics of mlndl i see so domain knowledge uh based on what you just said is kind of important and they during the interview they they might ask questions about domain knowledge right so in let's say if i'm applying in some mnc and i'm from supply chain domain what kind of question they asked like just give us like few examples of supply chain questions what is the reorder point and how do you predict reorder point so reorder point is uh one of the terminology regarding supply chain and uh how do you predict that that's from the data science you know how what kind of algorithms do you use so that is one of the question then uh it's there are a lot of questions so second would be let's say if i'm an interviewer i would ask this that okay i would give a use case regarding some religion that this has happened this has happened how do you apply your data science skill set to resolve this issue yeah so there is some domain specific and there is some data science everything is combined you know something like that so business and domain understanding and then i think even more important is how do you apply data science knowledge for a given domain problem so that requires analytical thinking and i think that that's the theme of most of the data science interviews uh as we discussed they will not ask you to build a model in pytorch because that's a matter of syntax you can learn syntax by googling no one remembers the syntax i just google all the time yeah no one remembers right so it's just uh okay for this given problem maybe i need to use decision tree and then i'll google okay how do you do decision tree in escalant you know so yeah that as simple as that okay devati nitin is asking how to get a job in tesla so you have covered all like some tips but any other tips like there are a couple of people who wants to get into tesla i would say start networking with kushal that's point number one no i would not i would not suggest that uh i don't have any other specific points other than networking networking is only key to get into you know okay don't get me wrong i have seen two two of my friends who got into tesla by online applications so i'm not saying that online application do not work it's just that with the networking you have the higher probability that's all okay which course or undergraduate program i have to prefer again very generic question for data scientists there are many masters and bachelor's program run by different universities and it depends on the quality of the education that particular university or online course is giving so it really depends on which university or college you're targeting when we did the interview with koshel last time we talked about some good universities in u.s uh maybe i'll do some other video on good universities in india okay akash chakrabarty can fresher get into big companies we already answer yes definitely abhijit suther i am in the training industry with 5's experience can i switch to data science and get job abroad so abhijit i think to get a job abroad if you are from india the best way is doing masters kushal would you agree with that i agree but yeah uh you are seeing the exception dawa is the exception that he was in india he did not do any masters but he came to usa he is working in bloomberg so it is possible yes but uh you would see one in hundred thousand examples you would see only one person who has done that in hundred thousand people so it's very hard so i would say yes come to mass account for masters builder profile and uh then start doing job in uh if you are planning to come abroad yep okay all right sanju kumar what would you like to suggest me i'm a third year currently doing google data analyst course on coursera will it be enough for entry level job or what else i should command it so by the way this google data analytics program on coursera is becoming very popular everyone is talking about that so that course is good but it will not guarantee your job let me tell you front no degree no course certification will guarantee your job i would like to add one thing so when i started my journey um i uh that was one course programming for everybody it was offered by university university of michigan and it was very popular at that time so i started learning that i started learning that i uh i paid few quotes on my broadly and cborn and i was like okay i'm a data analyst right now but you're not believe me you're not if you go to any uh any particular company and if you if they ask if they throw you some question you might not be able to answer on the other hand my friends who did not do any of the certifications they were literally very good with uh with data analysis because they they had an interest they were doing many projects so it depends upon what kind of skill set do you have and uh how what have you learned from these courses it's never been about getting a certification and you are going to get a job no if you if you have done of some very good projects and have built the understanding of data analysis then yes you are golden for any company i would say any company it's not about being upping into amazon or google you can get into any company but given that if you do not do something like that you would screw yourself sorry to say that yeah okay and see and the unfortunate thing is there are many expensive certification they they say okay job guarantee program see they are all liars no one can guarantee your job based on the course certification it depends on your interview performance and your resume like what kind of resume you have like do you have any special achievements such as open source contribution or have you done any special projects and things like that okay we'll move on to the next question nikhil arora is asking i am mca second year student have a good control on programming especially python very good and statistics what should be your advice for me to get data analytics job i would say don't don't aim for data analytics or since you are so good at statistics and everything start applying for data science jobs so there is a very thin difference between data analysis and data science where into data science you start going into predictive modeling side okay i would suggest that go for that and uh i i know that uh once you know that you are you must be doing some very fancy projects as well so now it's time for you to get an internship or uh get a full time in that particular domain because you know the things what you should be doing to get a job you're golder and nikki laura you have to really focus on projects so practice more and more projects on my channel we have done some couple of projects using tableau and power bi for data analysis role and for data scientists role also i have done some couple of uh end-to-end projects so i'm not sure have you done any end-to-end projects you should mention that on your resume then focus on linkedin spend at least half an hour every day on linkedin building connections things like that and that should be helpful i think uh we need to emphasize on this point that how to build the network okay because when we say building the network it might confuse people because i have seen that after our last video uh people were i felt that people were confused at how to uh do some specific things so let me emphasize more on this that how to build your network you know the you know the things that you you want to be a data scientist let's okay i'm talking about data scientists but it it would be applied to mechanical engineer electrical engineer anyone once you once you know that you are good enough to be a data scientist okay you should be having a clear vision that okay what kind of companies are doing what do you like to work for so do you like to uh work for cool tech companies or do you like to work for finance companies because uh once you specify this kind of companies it specifies your domain as well okay because there are literally million companies where you can work okay so you need to first specify some domain then specify some companies then start building your network around these companies because let's say if i add connect one connection in test from test and i if i add one connection from jp morgan i am trying randomly okay in that case i would i do not see that there are much chances that you would get into either tesla or gpm jp morgan because you are you are very random in your choices once you be specific okay when uh when i want to uh when i how about heard about the tesla i started uh looking for only tesla people five months ago okay it took me five months just imagine five months to build my connection for tesla and get an internship so you need to know the domain you need to know the companies you need to start building around those companies because let's say if i'm into tesla right if you reach out to me saying that hey kosher i want to work for tesla i've seen your profile it kind of aligns me with uh what your luck what you're doing and uh do you have any tips for me or something like that okay so what i would do is okay if i feel that you are very good and you can be a good fit for some positions if i know someone who is recruiting i would directly forward it to you that's how connection works okay but for that you need to have some um confidence that okay i really want to go for this company that's when you can say that okay because shooting uh random messages to people won't work you need to be very personalized when you say some things about your dream or about what kind of job you are looking for or something like that do some stuff like that and build your network around this company and since many people are asking questions the rajan dev quota is also asking questions on how to build connections so we can probably have a separate session on our building connections as well and maybe i'll i'll make some videos on that so that it is helpful sai sujit gola is asking is there any scope of quantum computing in machine learning or ai i would say quantum computing is still in a very early phase so i wouldn't worry too much about it okay we are reaching at one hour uh so kushal if uh if by the way if you have any question if you want to pick a question yourself or maybe i can pick one or two last questions and then i think we can end this uh i think you can go on okay ah let's see ziad allah is asking can i become data scientist by learning python numpy pandas material machine learning because i'm confused about other algorithms i think yeah those topics are good enough right yeah uh uh sorry so the question is like uh once you know the libraries you are you can be a good sign a data scientist that's the question is yeah and i think you answered that right like this it's not a bad life okay again let me say complete no once you know the library that does not mean that you are a good data scientist you need to know the algorithms and you need to practice those algorithms because once after practicing it you will get to learn a lot of things that how these things work so the summary short summary is basically having a business understanding domain knowledge understanding problem really well and how you can apply these tools to solve that problem i think that analytical thinking is probably more important than knowing just the syntax of a particular tool or a programming language yes yes all right great so there are so many questions we are really sorry it's already one hour we didn't realize how one hour passed by uh we will have more of such sessions live sessions in the future on my channel so please watch out for those sessions usually i do i do live sessions on weekends and i i announce one or two day in advance so if you have notification icon on you will get to know about it uh thanks kushel again this was a great conversation thank you for your valuable time and tips pleasure is all mine double thank you okay i'm gonna end the stream now
