holy mary mother of god amen pray for us oh sinners this is oh oh pray for us oh oh pray for us oh holy mary mother of god oh unto the holy spirit mercy towards us from jesus foreign marriage give as we forgive those who trespass against us this is mm-hmm in the name of the father son of the holy spirit the lord be with you to prepare ourselves to celebrate these sacred mysteries let us call to mind our sins i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fault through my fall through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy let us pray grant us lord our god that we may honor you with all our mind and love every one in truth of heart through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god for ever and ever a reading from the book of sirach like the choice fat of the sacred offerings so was david in israel israel he made sport of lions as though they were kids and of bears like lambs of the flock as a youth he slew the giant and wiped out the people's disgrace when his hand let fly the slingstone that crushed the pride of goliath since he called upon the most high god who gave strength to his right arm to defeat the skilled warrior and raise up the might of his people therefore the woman sang his pray the women sang his praises and ascribed to him tens of thousands and praised him when they blessed the lord when he assumed the royal crown he battled and subdued the enemy on every side he destroyed the hostile philistines and shattered their power till our own day with his every deed he offered thanks to god most high in words of praise with his whole being he loved his maker and daley had his praises sung he let singers before the altar and by their voices he made sweet melodies he added beauty to the feasts and forever the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to mark king herod heard about jesus for his fame had become widespread and people were saying john the baptist has been raised from the dead that is why mighty powers are at work in him others were saying he is elijah still others he is a prophet like any of the prophets but when herod learned of it he said it is john whom i beheaded he has been raised up herod was the one who had john arrested and bound in prison on account of herodias the wife of his brother philip whom he had married john had said said to herod it is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife herodias harbored a grudge against him and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so herod feared john knowing him to be a righteous and holy man and kept him in custody when he heard him speak he was very much perplexed yet he liked to listen to him herodias had an opportunity one day when herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtier his military officers and leading men of galilee his own daughter came in and performed a dance that delighted herod and his guests the king said to the girl ask of me whatever you wish and i will grant it to you he even swore many things to her i will grant you whatever you ask of me even to half of my kingdom she went out and said to her mother what shall i ask for her mother replied the head of john the baptist the girl hurried back to the king's presence and made a request i want you to give me at once on a platter the head of john the baptist the king was deeply dis distressed but because of his oaths and the guests he did not wish to break his word to her he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders to bring back his head he went off and beheaded him in the prison he brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl the girl in turn gave it to her mother when his disciples heard about it they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ tonight i hope you're all planning on being here we're doing something very very special i think all these first fridays that we've had together this is the third of five have been incredibly special and we're building up our uh our love for god but also our love for each other so that we can be a powerful force at one with each other to stand with our light against the dark forces of the world and to draw others to the light of christ to this last few days beginning with the day i picked to launch what we're going to be doing during lent the 90 days to peace it was on the feast of the presentation and what we heard simeon say to mary and joseph that he will be a sign that will be contradicted the word contradicted contra against addicted to speak to speak against he will be a sign that will be spoken against because he is a threat because he is getting in the way of what they want to do oftentimes ways that betray god he is a threat ultimately jesus would end up on the cross because of that threat today we heard the story of john the baptist i'm very close to john since i share his birthday june 24th john spoke up he became a threat and just to make note here he was speaking to a political authority and he was admonishing him we're told as religious leaders don't do that because that's politics and so we're to just sit by and shut up and sit down and do nothing and let all of this evil just roll in when there is no force to stand against it because we don't want to be political of course that's ridiculous especially when we see this classic story of john speaking up and not letting evil forces become normalized in his time he wanted to be clear that's not right it's not right and he said it to a political leader how dare he right you're being divisive all right you're you're being political we can't speak against those things what a disaster will we have the lead the religious leaders of our day telling all to sit out and shut up like they're telling us to do we need to get close to god because once we're truly in that place you see i think a lot of religious leaders are void of supernatural faith if they had supernatural faith they'd say of course we need to do like john the baptist does but they don't we need it we need a supernatural faith that speaks to our heart that compels us gives us a resolve to want to do it god's way to want to build the kingdom of god to want to stand against those dark forces that poison in the well no we don't watch your poison this beautiful image of john the beloved behind me he stood with christ on the cross he's blessing the chalice that was poisoned and the snakes are coming out that's what we need to do we need to purify ourselves purify our families purify our communities purify our land let's ask for the blessing of god that the snakes might leave please stand god always listens to the prayers of those who call to him in faith let us trust god fully as we bring him our prayers and those of our world for our holy father bishops and priests may the lord continue to give them courage to stand against the evils of our time we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for for this faith community may the holy spirit help us recognize the gifts we have been given and empower us in bearing good fruit and building the kingdom of god we pray to lord lord hear our prayer for our beloved dead may they find rest and serenity with the saints in heaven and today's mass is being offered for paul hunt we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer god of everlasting mercy hear the prayers of your people and tend to the needs we place before you according to your will we ask this through christ our lord blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth work of human hands will become for us the bread of life blessed be god forever by the mystery of this water mine we've come to share in christ's divinity who humbled himself to share in our humanity blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the divine work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink blessed be god forever pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice of our hears for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church o lord we bring to your altar these offerings of our service be pleased to receive them we pray and transform them into the sacrament of our redemption through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for out of compassion for the waywardness that is ours he humbled himself and was born of the virgin by the passion of the cross he freed us from unending death and by rising from the dead he gave us life eternal and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as out and we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest to you therefore most merciful father we make humble prayer and petition through jesus christ your son our lord that you accept and bless these gifts these offerings these holy and unbombing sacrifices which we offer you firstly for your holy catholic church be pleased to grant her peace to guard unite and govern her throughout the whole world together with your servant francis our pope and donald our bishop and all those who holding the truth had on the catholic and apostolic faith remember lord your servants and all gathered here whose faith and devotion are known to you for them we offer you this sacrifice of praise are they offered for themselves and all who are dear to them for the redemption of their souls in hope of health and well-being and paying their homage to you the eternal god living and true in communion with those whose memory we venerate especially the glorious of a virgin mary mother of our god and lord jesus christ and blessed joseph her spouse your blessed apostles and martyrs peter and paul andrew james john thomas james philip bartholomew matthew simon and jude linus cletus clement sixties cyprian lawrence chrysojus john and paul cosmas and damien and all your saints we ask that through their merits and prayers in all things we may be defended by your protecting help therefore lord we pray graciously accept this oblation of our service that of your whole family order our days and your peace and command that we be delivered from eternal damnation and counted among the flock of those you have chosen be pleased oh god we pray to bless acknowledge and approve this offering in every respect make it spiritual and acceptable so it may become for us the body and blood of your most beloved son our lord jesus christ on the day before he wants to suffer he took bread in his holy and venerable hands with eyes raised to heaven to you god is almighty father giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you [Music] in a similar way when supper was entity took this precious chalice with his holy and venerable hands and once more giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this is the chalice of our blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith save us savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free therefore oh lord as we celebrate the memorial the blessed passion the resurrection from the dead and the glorious ascension into heaven of christ your son our lord we your servants and your holy people offer to your glorious majesty from the gifts you've given us this pure victim this holy victim this spotless victim the holy bread of eternal life and the chalice of everlasting salvation be pleased to look upon these offerings with a serene and kindly countenance and to accept them as once you are pleased to accept the gifts of your servant abel the just the sacrifice of abraham our father in faith and the offering of your high priest melchizedek a holy sacrifice a spotless victim in humble prayer we ask you almighty god commanded these gifts to be born by the hands of your holy angel children high in the sight of your divine majesty so that all of us who through this participation of the elder receive the most holy body and blood of your son may be filled with every grace and heavenly blessing remember also lord your servants who have gone before us with a sign of faith and rest in the sleep of peace grant them the lord we pray and all who sleep in christ a place of refreshment light and peace to us also your servants who those sinners hope in your abundant mercies graciously grant some share in fellowship with your holy apostles and martyrs with john the baptist stephen the thighs barnabas ignatius alexander barcellinus peter felicity perpetua agatha lucy agnes cecilia anastasia and all your saints admit us we beseech you into their company not weighing our merits but granting us your pardon through christ our lord through whom you continue to make all these good things o lord you sanctify them fill them with life bless them and bestow them upon us through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not in our sins but of the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have
