welcome Elder Scrolls fans I have prepared a place for you and to this place where Destiny is made you may pause to become prepared I received a lot of messages in regards to my last video I thank you all for your kind words and I have noticed that many of you are interested in enjoying the wonders of Morrowind in 2023 and Beyond but do not know where to begin fear not I will guide you through everything this video shall be tailor fit for the absolute newcomer for those of you new tomorrow wind I welcome you gladly and can speak on behalf of the entire Morrowind Community when I say we are very pleased to have you not only will you find a worthwhile game that you can play for years to come but you may make some of the grandest friends and meet a plethora of wonderful people within the community I will direct you to a few Discord servers later on now there are a few ways to enjoy Morrowind and the choice is yours while there is nothing wrong with the vanilla experience you wouldn't be here if you wanted to dust off the old CD and its expansions and play it right on your Windows XP the two best ways to play this game are with openm to W or Morrowind script extender now Morrowind script extender MSC is a mod that in short adds new functionality to the scripting language of Morrowind that allows for some amazing mods to be created and mods created under MSE can be quite amazing the only downside is that mods made for openmw will not work for MSE and vice versa mods for MSC will not work with openmw when downloading mods you will easily see in their description if they are for MSC or openmw so there is no confusion there openmw is an entirely new open source engine that was made specifically to Port Morrowind into with the ability to have to community take it to even greater Heights these Heights so far have seen the rise of Morrowind multiplayer Morrowind VR and even most recently there is a process in the works so that everyone may make their own games for the engine so those are your options what will it be whatever you choose it will be a good choice but if you want my personal opinion I am favoring openmw as I do enjoy playing in VR from time to time and the owner of this channel Gregory does have his own personal multiplayer server which is held host to some of the best this game has to offer for example you may have heard it told that in Morrowind you start out weak as a little scrib and while that may be true after all is said and done this game does allow you to become so powerful that not even a single NPC in the game can scratch you in fact you can become so powerful that if you put all the NPCs in the game in the same cell with you they couldn't stand a chance in a million fun different ways now with multiplayer at hand you no longer have to be a bored being of ultimate power PVP Super Saiyan like battles for the fate of all of Tamriel are a reality after making your choice installation is quite simple as a matter of fact if you have ever modded anything you may find this just as simple as modding Minecraft or San Andreas simply dragging and dropping files making sure the load order is correct but fear not if you don't know anything about that that is why I am here tomorrow in script extender or openmw I will add all of the appropriate links in the description if it is multiplayer you are after those links will also be down there all the mods I will mention here on will be in the description as well but if you are interested in joining Gregory's multiplayer server he will allow you to download his mod pack that will get you straight access to his multiplayer server and you can still use that mod list in a single player instance of openmw you can take my word for it that it is the best mod list out there for openmw and is getting updated all the time for legal reasons of course you do need to own the game there are certain files that Gregory cannot distribute steam sales see Morrowind for 4.49 and I hear that Gog sells it at an appropriate price now if you're going to be doing this yourself let's talk about the mods you may want the first thing people mention is that this game does look old and it needs to be refreshed luckily there are thousands of mods out there that enhance the visuals if you want to stay true to vanilla there is even an AI upscaled mod that enhances all the original textures so you may keep the Glorious original feel of the game in high resolution this mod is called Morrowind enhanced textures and I would recommend installing this first above everything as most mods that you download all come with their own meshes and textures and you certainly don't want to install this last overriding good mod author's work we will use this mod as a quick tutorial for getting you accustomed to how to install mods first you must register a Nexus account with this account you can download mods free to your heart's content once that is done go ahead and take a look at how mods are organized here on the page you get a nice Banner a title the number of endorsements which is a quick way of saying this is how many people downloaded this enjoyed it and cared to come back and click the like button on it here we can also see many other things but you can scroll down and see the about section many mod authors do a very good job of making their about section very clean and giving the most relevant information now how do we download said mod you can see here here there was a files tab if you open that tab you will see the Mod download in its entire history of old files as the current recording of this video Morrowind enhanced textures is on version 5.2 and was uploaded the 27th of May my my 1.7 gigabytes of data that's already much larger than the full size of the vanilla game this is a wonderful mod to get you started with nice and easy to install just click the manual download button now listen some people may use Vortex that is what mod manager download does but allowing a program to take control of your mods may be convenient but it is better to know how to do things manually as some mods do require that anyway and furthermore sometimes if you are using a mod manager to install your mods for you they can easily ruin everything if you do things yourself manually then you should have no problems when you run into an issue because it is something that is far easily fixable speaking of fixable you should not need me to tell you this but I will please back up your files that way if anything goes wrong say you are looking at a new mod you want but it looks fishy will this ruin my game better copy and paste my whole data files folder somewhere in case something goes wrong and thus if it does you can simply delete the ruined files and replace them with your nice modded backup that does work for now just click manual download it will ask you if you want to have a slow download or something else just click slow download we don't want to have to pay for anything unless you are so inclined to now this mod in particular is pretty big so it may take a moment depending on how good your internet connection is if you've got a lot of in-was sucking up your bandwidth I am truly sorry now something such as this will work for both MSE and openmw because it is simply meshes and texture replacement still it's always a good that you should read the description of every mod you get on the Nexus both MSE and openmw are good for their own reasons and have flaws in others but again no matter what you choose you're going to have a good time if you're not careful you could end up enjoying the process of installing mods a clear warning though be sure and don't make the mistake of adding a whole horde of mods at once you should make a good habit of installing one mod at a time and then going into the game and testing it so no trouble arises nine times out of ten if you get a ctd and the game is broken and will not even launch always due to installing several mods at once before testing them hopefully by now the mod is done downloading if it is not done I recommend watching the video called dagoth ER in was with Attitude link also in description when all is done return here excellent now that that is all taken care of you should have the mod mods will always be in a zipped folder you will need some sort of extraction software to unzip the folder luckily most modern operating systems come with this already if you do not have the likes of 7-Zip or anything I can personally recommend WinRAR it is reliable and faithful and I have been using it since I was a young kymer for me I like to have a dedicated location on my computer for organizational purposes a spot specifically for placing downloaded mods wherever you would like that to be go ahead and find yourself a place but For the Love of All that is good please do not be like some of these other tutorial YouTubers that just have a bunch of crap all over their desktop you will be shamed for that it is a personal disgrace what I like about WinRAR is that I can simply right click the folder in question and as you can see have it extract its contents into a newly created folder named after the same file again this is a large mod give that some time now that it is done open the extracted file as you can see we have a textures folder this is the most basic of Basics I told you that we were going to start for the absolute beginner it's quite simple if you go to your installation directory you can find all the internal files of Morrowind for example most of you may have Morrowind installed from Steam so where is your steam Library steam steam apps common and then Morrowind as you can see we have a data files folder here inside is all the richness of the game and where you will place the contents of mods simply take that textures file and bring it into here however you wish copy and paste or cut you name it merge the folder and click yes to replace all files that share the same name and without needing to do anything else Pat yourselves on the back you have just installed your first mod and now your Morrowind textures look fantastic other mods are not so simple in fact most mods come with another file called a DOT ESP the ESP file I can cover quickly all you need to do is drop it into data files along with whatever else needs to be placed in the appropriate location activate an esps is simple a mod manager of sorts is needed I personally am still using an old version of Nexus mod manager because I've had no need to upgrade to anything else I don't actually use Vortex because I haven't any need for it furthermore I would also need to look up a tutorial for Vortex myself as I can't seem to find anywhere on how to change the load order on there at least that's how it was when I last looked at it now you may be wondering what is load order well let's just say you go ahead and get two more mods that both have Dot esps and they are compatible with either openmw or MSE whichever of those two you have chosen you will need to make sure that they are in what is called a good load order figuring this out with a giant list of hundreds of mods could be a headache as some need to be higher in the list than others luckily for us in the Morrowind Community there is a nice little program called M locks and if you run this program it will take a look at your data files and tell you a load order that will be the best outcome for you keep in mind though this program can make mistakes too if you know for example a core file needs to be above another but it is sorting it lower than the others you may ignore its ignorance from here I would shop around for a good mod manager if you happen to be somebody who is going to be joining Gregory's multiplayer server then his mod pack does come with the oldest version of Nexus mod manager that you can't get anymore except for on a really shady website that doesn't feel at all safe upon scanning the program it seems fine but if that makes you uncomfortable just delete the bastard upon opening your mod manager you will see the dot esps and you can simply tick them on and if you are using a good mod manager you can move them around the list and that my dear friends is how you order the mods thus the term load order everything will be read from the top of the mod list to the bottom and there you go you have just successfully installed a new mod you're quite a natural at this soon you may have the game looking better than anybody's well there you have it friends those are the basic of the basics you now know what load order is you know how to sort a load order install.esp's install new textures meshes sounds you name it simply by placing the files of the mod into your your data files folder and then activating the esps in a mod manager of sorts now welcome to the Fun World of Morrowind you might find yourself browsing the Nexus Morrowind page scrolling through mods for days installing several that catch your interest for a list of great mods that I would recommend I like to keep things lore friendly so everything you will find in Gregory's mod list you could consider vanilla Plus or Morrowind 2 if you'd like if you download his mod pack to save you the trouble of doing any of this yourself I wouldn't blame you at all but you may also find a richness from personally building the game up to your liking from the ground up the Nexus does have a page for the most popular mods of all time though some being dated and not at all recommended you may also check the popular mods of the last 30 days as well as trending mods and mods uploaded today in all of last week if you have any questions feel free to ask Gregory will get back to as many of you as he can in their description you can find his Discord to his personal multiplayer server and the official Morrowind multiplayer server if you are looking to install the greats such as Tamriel rebuilt Province cyrodiil and Skyrim home of the Nords I will place those Discord links down there as well those are a little bit more complicated to install than the basics we covered here today but with those mods you will take part in being able to travel to the other parts of Tamriel all in the same world space once all is said and done in the future you will be able to walk from coast to coast if any of you take a liking to this idea there are also many resources for getting started in making your own mods and you may volunteer to help the project it is always looking for new members I hope this was helpful to those of you who were asking how to get started in my last video some of you did just want a giant list of recommended mods in which case I will list a few wonderful mods for you keep in mind you will find that in the Nexus some mods will require other mods in order for them to work some of these I list will most likely be the same for a quick list of a few recommendations the project Tamriel mods Tamriel rebuilt Province cyrodiil Skyrim home of the Nords Vivek God the city concept art Palace bar Dao Ministry of truth true lights and darkness patch for purists Bethesda official mods Morrowind swamp trees nod NPC outfit diversity more deadly Morrowind denizens ghastly ghost gate diverse Khajiit deep watch curio portrait creeping blight crabs diversity boys in the hood beware the sixth house blood moon rebalance Better Bodies better Dwemer Interiors dunmer stronghold indusel redone uranyal radon the ashlanders kogaroon Revisited and demanufactured slowed and slavers yet another guard diversity precise attack playable dramoramad ranked dramora and my number one recommended mod sotha Sil expanded along with gesalt revoiced this mod expands the tribunal expansion quest line and makes it even more Grand and intoxicating though a bit challenging at times there is a guide out there if needed I wouldn't play through tribunal without it recommend 100 if you are going to get anything out of what I just listed here do yourself a favor with sotasil expanded though it is recommended for you to have completed the main quest first you will want to be a bit leveled before taking that on now those are just a few mods to list to get you started all of them will be linked I don't want to name too many mods or the description box may not be able to hold them all but that should get you started anyway at the very least and you may find more you will want yourself through browsing for these thank you all for watching this basic guide for how to install Morrowind mods for complete beginners you may find yourself installing more and more complicated mods do not be afraid to reach out for help the Morrowind Community is a very loving place and there are many who would be more than happy to help you again links to Discord servers below Welcome Friends I hope to see you in the game soon
