[Music] all right stand to your feet everybody for the reading of scriptures and for the word of God Philippians chapter 2 verses 12 and 13 on this day as we celebrate our youth and begin our week of revival we pray that God will bless us as we study his word our rites it reads verse 12 wherefore my beloved as you have always obeyed not as in my presence only but now much more in my absence work out your own salvation with fear and trembling for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure father we pray for your blessings as we approach the sacred word somebody walked into this temple this day and really needs to hear from you if there is something this preacher would utter that will not bless someone please hold the roof the tongue of mine to the roof of my mouth so I can't say it but if there is something god that someone needs to hear from this simple clay pot I pray God that you will say it and say the way you want to say it have your way with us this day you could be reckless God with us do whatever you will whatever you wish but please at the end of the day keep all of the praise the honor and the glory but God please dispense all the blessings to us in Jesus name we pray amen amen Lord prepare us everybody stand [Music] sing it like you mean it everybody today [Music] [Music] you may be seated want to recognize my good friend and his wife Ian and shirelle with us today glad to have you as always I had to see you I want to bring to your message today it's with the young people in mind but all the people can be blessed by it it's entitled check yourself check yourself now God wants us to be free and freedom is the ability to determine who or what will control you there's no such thing as an uncontrolled person because we are all controlled by something they meant somebody the question is today will our dreams God's Word and those things that are good for us control us or are we going to be controlled by our bondages another word for bondage is sin now many people remain in bondage because of the inability to take responsibility when they are wrong I have a book in my library by Jerry Harvey entitled how come every time I get stabbed in the back my fingerprints are always under knife if you're serious about getting your life together it is essential that you embrace responsibility now how do you spell blame be lame that's how you spell blame so many people's lives are lame because we live in a blame oriented culture from the President of the United States blames everybody for everything he blames everybody it's never him I've been warned to stop talking about trumps I'm not even one call his name I didn't want to call his name but but he's a good example of someone who blames everybody else for his mess Amen somebody and whenever something goes wrong in our lives our minds become attorney for the defense which means we are eager to defend ourselves our culture has produced responsibility illiteracy we are conditioned and taught to dodge personal responsibility it's called alibi which is a latin word that literally means not there it is the same as a chameleon you see certain animals certain insects have the capacity to create color and so if a certain bug that is naturally brought Brown if it wants to it can change color to blend into the scenery so that a bug that is not that is there is not there we have the ability to blend in produce color so that when we mess up we are there but not there so if we have a drug problem it's not my fault we turn on the color whose fault is it genetic makeup not me not there it's my family not me not there it's what I inherited from my grandparents but never me I just kind of blend in why do you smoke because my daddy smoked it's just how we do it not there not me why are you in prison not there not me I wasn't there when the drugs were so why are you in environment teachers didn't give me a chance friends put me up to it I'm a victim of my experience why are you drunk and wasting all your money on liquor not there not me all right chameleon go ahead and blend in all my buddies are doing it not me not here why are you committing adultery not there not me if my wife would just handle her business not here not me I'm not saying that family and genetics and teachers and environment and friends and experiences are not contributors to our addictions and our issues but while there may be contributors they are not the cause you have to know the difference between someone tributing to you being a fool and a real cause of you being a fool you can never be free until you quit being a chameleon quit turning on the coloration and embrace responsibility and responsibility is the ability to respond to life you respond you don't react and we respond to life through at least three ways first our attitudes no one is in control of your attitudes but you Amen somebody our actions I am resection Lee our actions attitudes actions I'm responsible for my actions and if you mess up be a man or a woman about it say I'm sorry and thirdly our reactions how do you react you can't control what people do say man somebody sometimes they feel like a nut and sometimes they don't but you can control your attitudes your actions and your reactions so when people say she makes me mad that is not really true because she is not in control you are she can give you the opportunity to get mad but you can't she can't make you mad you do that all by yourself mm-hmm this is gonna send me drinking no you are in control now there are three kinds of attitudes that are prevalent in our society today number one the excuses an excuse is someone who blames his environment why do you sell drugs because I grew up in the hood because I grew up poor poverty does that make you sell drugs ladies and gentlemen black folk have always been poor that's a lame excuse and most black folk do not sell drugs most black people work hard take care of their children are responsible say men somebody you're just trifling and sometimes we enable our young people in their foolishness by sympathizing with them but we are better than that same and somebody your son shows up at 18 years old doesn't have a job shows up with a brand new Mercedes Benz you should not drive in it Amen somebody tell him take it back where he got it he didn't work for it he didn't win the lotto how's that he's driving an S 560 and when you act like you don't know how he got it I yeah he's a good boy and you drive all over the pin drop you the trash this morning and you turn a blind eye to his foolishness you are an enabler and your children's wrongdoing if you want to make it you've got to learn how to delay gratification young people and wait to get some things while you're 13 14 and 15 that's the time for planting some seeds in your education and for your future listen to me you should not be trying to find a husband at 14 and 50 you don't know what you want same in somebody at that age now my mother got married at 14 and stayed married for 15 years till my father died but you know what that was back then if she was in my age she wouldn't be getting married at 14 same answer bud at 14 15 16 17 you don't know what you want in a husband you're not mature enough I was 42 I'm not prescribing I'm describing I was 42 when I got married and the reason why it took me so long to get married wasn't because I couldn't find somebody to marry just look at me [Applause] Amen somebody that you know I'm just playing with you yeah this stuff goes all over the internet so please all right not because I couldn't find somebody but the reason why I waited is because I didn't know what I wanted and I was never gonna get married until I was sure that no matter what happens in the marriage outflanks Amen somebody nah my wife my wife she has a lot of stuff to worry about one of the things he never has to worry about do you know what it is me running around with another woman Amen somebody it'll never happen in a million years same in somebody that's why I hug and kiss all the woman in my church because it's a brotherly kiss it's a Jesus kiss Amen somebody it's a Jesus hug don't ever misinterpret it Amen somebody and I hug and kiss you all day long I see you five times you get five kisses but when you know what you want you're prepared to bet get married Amen somebody you can delay gratification wait by the way let me say that I prayed that the Lord will help me not to say it and he just said no if you want to make it young people you can there are people around you to help you and if you want to be a thug and a gangster it's your choice excuses blame their environment but there's a second kind of attitude and they are called accusers accusers blame other people for their bondages my mama or daddy was not there for me and I grew up in a single-parent home listen to me Barack Obama grew up in a single family home and he became the president of the United States stop blaming everybody if your daddy is not there I'm sorry but you got a choice Amen somebody Jesse Jackson grew up in a single family home and he led black America for many years let me tell you this and some of these young folk will put you in a guilt trip to make it give them everything after a while I'm not buying it after a while how long you won't tell me about your daddy wasn't here and I as your mother I worked three jobs to pay the rent bought everything I got afford to give to you and you worried about who's not here you need to celebrate who is here I'm here [Applause] your daddy never thought about you but I worked from sunup to sundown to put food on the table sink it to school and take care yeah and you worry about who's not here a whole lot of young folk make that their life's mission to manipulate you with what's not right in their lives now I'll never know what it is to be without a father I grew up with a father but i'ma tell you this I know a lot of woman who have done everything in their power to bring up your children they denied themselves everything new they're using the same old dress they wore in 1985 just to make sure you got a cell phone and yet they don't have the decency to help her with her bags when she gets home let's say I love young people but I'm not one of those people who let them get away with everything if you're rude I have nothing to say to you say Amen somebody need to take care of mama your needs to say thank you on Mother's Day you should save some of the money she gave you to buy her a gift saving somebody do you know the joy you can bring to your mother's heart just by being nice say something nice to put your arms around them hug her it will make her weak but instead while she tries to talk to you you mumble an answer under your breath as though she's irritating you you say how do you know that I've been in your house all oh you're the same poor mama say say hi to the past and you barely want to open your mouth embarrassing your poor mother y'all don't like my sermon accusers they blame everybody there's a whole lot of folk who are making it from single-parent homes and some children axe selling because wise single parents know you can be single and be a single parent and not parent singly you can hook up your sons and your daughters with godly mentors the men in this congregation should be model a manhood should model manhood so that these boys would want to be like you and fathers like you the men in this congregation should be men who hold the jobs who are decent who respect their wives who show love and tenderness to their children same in somebody the model manhood hold a job these men should help these mothers with their sons without hitting on their mamas I should be able to step into a family who doesn't have a man in that family and get close to a boy or a girl and teach them life how to tie a tie Amen somebody had to say how to take care of yourself how to treat a woman Amen somebody how to open doors how to say thank you how to say please what to say may I we need to encourage our boys to grow up to love the Lord Amen somebody and boys of sexual integrity need to teach our boys that a woman should be loved in a romantic way not another man listen to me listen to me folk you preach this kind of stuff there call the authorities on you but this is what the Word of God says Haman somebody a man should love a woman sexually amen somebody a woman should love a man sexually that's a big God did it now listen to me and don't miss hear me please get educated on this we live in a messed up world there are people who are broken their people's lives who are messed up and you have people who can't help themselves and so the church must recognize that there's a Ministry of love to be dispensed to people who are sexually disoriented and the Church does not castigate or put people out because of the orientation listen to me how is it the adulterer could come in church and he's accepted how is it a liar and a cheat and the murderer could come in here and testify but somebody who's messed up in terms of their sexual orientation we discard as the worst sin sin is sin if your lies won't keep you out of kingdom shaming somebody if you're homosexual it will keep you out of the kingdom if you mean some charge focused so mean they could give an aspirin a headache listen I spent my entire life trying to make people happy everything I do as a pastor is to make people happy everything I'm not here to rob you of any joy I'm here to make you happy I'm here to make you happy anything I can do to make it happy I'm doing it but my greater responsibility it's not to make your happy but to make you holy it can't be a man if you've never seen a man so smart woman we'll invite people into our life to help her with the raising of her boys the excuse of blames the environment and the accuser blames other people if you're an excuse or an accuser you're giving people and circumstances too much control over your life and some are you sitting before me your life has been at a standstill it has not moved forward not backward for years do you know why you're an accuser and you're an excuse er what you're saying is I can't change until they change and that is a lie because if you all change and you're development and growth and freedom from bondage are dependent on other folk that means you may never change because they may never change that's why all your folk who are waiting an apology for people who hurt you 20 years ago please move on with your life they're not coming back to apologize oh they're gonna come to their senses they'll never Amen somebody because change behavior changes behavior when you change the people around you may just change but can't sit around and wait for them to change for you to change you change in other words if you want folk around you to change you don't wait for them to change for example if you're waiting for somebody to stop beating up on you don't wait for him or her to change you change you get up you get out you move to California if you're tired of folk disrespecting you don't wait for them to stop disrespecting you you get some self-respect you change and even all of it will affect the way folk treat you and I was getting married to my wife I said listen I'm a guy with a lot of love I get a lot of love from everywhere so if I were to choose between love and respect from you i'ma take respect you can keep all your love but please respect me respect me as a man respect me as a preacher respect me as a person so we'll talk to each other a certain way Amen somebody you can keep all your love in the world I don't necessarily want love from everybody I can live with our love can't live with our respect so we have the excuse that we have the accuse and thirdly we have a chooser I make up these words I'm a lexicographer Asuza takes responsibility for his or her attitudes actions and reactions I choose my attitudes actions and reactions I could give them a piece of my mind but I choose to pray for them instead I choose not to go there I could be worried but I choose not to give someone trespassing rights over my emotions this past week I'm driving on the major Deegan in the Bronx and the guy hits me from behind I pull aside he gets out of his car and he's cussing me like a sailor so I got out of the car calmly I let him cuss and carry on because I got two kids to go home to and a wife in addition to that I'm not a fighter I'm a lover amen some honey okay so I get out of the car he's cussing so I'm just watching him but my brother-in-law is my bodyguard where's my buddy God where's my buddy God where's the bodyguard he's in the balcony stand up let him see what a big Negro you are he gets out of the car the moment he gets out of the car and he stands by the car the guy calms down he's cool now he goes since Connie's sister I call the cops cops took an hour and a half no cop call back no cop two hours I finally get him out of my car and I go to the guys car and say hey man listen man I've been calling them they're not coming he said me too i've been calling them I said listen man my deductible is $1,000 what's your deductible thousand dollars a sense of my insurance is not gonna pay mine I got to paint myself he's a man chosen they're gonna pay mine either I said listen man he gets out of the car my brother always in the car he's watching us and the guy and I were slapping five and hugging and we laughing and talking he said man what do you do I say I'm a preacher he said he said listen to me I work for the church too he says I'm a full-time employee after church I say what's your church I don't want to tell the church but I know the church when I was pastoring in Harlem the choice wasn't far from mine so I'm saying to myself this guy just cuss like a sailor suppose I had started you I never and should never be out of control no matter what happens around you saving somebody you've gotta learn to control yourself I told my brother and I say you know he works for the church full-time he said he was cussing like a sailor if he looks under Internet he'll see us talk about him I choose I am in control you are a chooser stop acting like a victim some of us have a PhD in victimology and so much of our helplessness is learned we've been taught that we are helpless but we are not as helpless as we are think we are God wants us to be responsible what are the characteristics of a responsible person responsible people number one set goals for their lives they have dreams number two there are self-starters they are internally motivated because if no one is there to Pat them on the back and no one is there to encourage them it makes no difference responsible people do their homework and their parents don't have to tell them Amen somebody responsible people know how to take care business they keep your rooms clean responsible people family have a forwarded driving mission and driven vision they don't live in the past let me tell you something by the past please remember this if you forget everything else in the sermon listen to this you can never unscramble the egg some things are like when it's done it's done there is not to over amen somebody that's why view a parent as busy as I am and as much as I go to preach this is how I do it I tell everybody you fly me out on Friday night and you get me a flight back on Saturday evening I'm spending one night out of my house away from my wife and children do you know why listen to me why I'll never get a do-over when it comes to being a father so you're responsible because you have a driving vision that's future focus not the pass do you know how many people have been crippled by the past young people because they allow something to happen in their lives that them I was preaching in Florida a couple of years ago this young lady came sat right beside me as I'm getting ready to go up and preach I passed I said hi so say you remember me kind of want to tell somebody no that's like being almost pregnant so when it was over we're eating and she's just be sad say you remember past when you are at a certain church and I had gotten pregnant and you blessed a baby she told me the story and then I got a pretty good idea she says you know what I'm doing now it's a lot she says I'm the associate pastor of an Adventist Church and what it tells me folk your past may mess you up but your past should never drive you Amen somebody who has not made a mistake who has done had something they're not proud of in their life saving somebody that's why when people mess up and they come to me I don't act as though this is the end of the world no you may just have a brand new beginning cuz that's what the gospel is all about when you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior one of the things he gives you is a brand new future so so responsible people don't live in the past how you gonna be driving your car and driving it by looking in the rearview mirror I've been driving there people who are looking at me in the rearview mirror they're not looking forward because they think I'm too close and maybe I was has that ever happened to you responsible people are not caught up in yesterday and that caught up in what somebody did because they are too busy dreaming about what they're going to be tomorrow if you're constantly rehashing the past and living in 2001 you are a victim and you're messed up and you will mess up other folk you be careful of who you date because somebody who is messed up will mess you up and most of the relationships in this world are messed up because somebody married some you look good but it was messed up everything that looks good is not good for you every tall dark handsome man is not gonna make you happy amen somebody if he's got a lot of baggage you just open up your closet he's got more coming see - I'm sorry not only he God wants to set you free but he can't set you free until you realize you are under bondage responsible people refuse fourthly to remain stuck I might be in a rut but if I refuse to remain stuck because there's nothing around you there is always a God above you and if you say father I stretched my hands to thee no other help I know then I don't have to be a victim responsible people further maximize their opportunities God will give you opportunities but you have to seize those moments quit blaming white folk you've got as much brain as everybody else Amen somebody if I knock you down today it's Saturday shame on me but if I claim back here next Sabbath and you're still laying down shame on you amen somebody you cannot expect the person who knocked you down to pick you up because if they were picking you up they wouldn't have knocked you down in the first place so instead of you waiting for somebody to pick you up you stop the foolishness you stop the madness in your life you stop being out of control same in somebody you stop eating like there's no tomorrow you get control of your addictions and your lust amen somebody I am responsible for me I can't help it you say they're hitting on me it's your life I'm gonna give you a nice paragraph here everybody should take this and write it down everybody everybody this is it it's your life you don't have to do anything that laws your morals compromises your conscience obviates your calling destroys your self-respect tarnishes your reputation and contaminates your influence everybody shut write it down and live by it this is a cream how do I go grow in responsibility Philippians I gave you the text I said y'all probably surpass and never quoted a text yet well here it is Philippians 2:12 wherefore my beloved as you have always obeyed not as in my presence only but now much more in my absence work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure the first thing we recognize in those two verses of Scripture is that everybody's got a great possession Paul and this passage seems in consistent he says work out your salvation and we've always been taught salvation is not by works but it is by grace Ephesians 2:8 and 9 says for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast but Philippians 2:12 says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling trembling work it out Paul says you have to understand that for Paul salvation has three movements movement number one is we are saved from the penalty of sin which is death when you put your trust in Jesus Christ your pardon from your sin it's called a justification it is as if you had never sinned do you realize that when we confess our sins it is as if we have never sinned it's not like the wife who reminded the husband every week that she forgave him because when we get to heaven we will get their sin free because all our sins all of our sins would have been transferred to Jesus that's grace we are saved from the penalty of sin but the second salvation movement is we are saved from the power of sin sin has power over us it has a grip on us and we still have issues we need to stop fronting I'm not impressed with holy people holy people are only fronting I don't care who you are you could be pastor for 55 years you struggling you ever tell you that I was preaching at the Oklahoma camp meeting in Oklahoma City a couple of years ago so I preached and I said listen every day I gotta ask God to forgive me of my sins we eating at the lunch season and this preacher turns to me said Jules how you gonna get up and announce to the people that you sin every day I said they could just look at me and know I sin every day I need grace I need forgiveness I need pardon I need somebody to pray for me I'm weak say Amen somebody but Jesus is strong and anybody who acts as though they don't have temptation they'll I don't be impressed with anybody who pretends to have it all together because nobody on this earth has it all together nobody nobody we are climbing up the rough side of the mountain that's why I'm not impressed with anybody's spirituality nobody we're a bunch of weak people same ends about it we sit and we don't even know we sin we act crazy we don't even know we acted crazy cuz we a messed up we were born in sin and iniquity we were born that way that's why Jesus said he must be born again we're trying to be what you're not as you stay in Christ from day to day certain things that had a hold on you should lose its power over you and you're gradually becoming powerful through Christ who strengthens you Simmons about here's a third salvation movement we are saved from the presence of sin we'll say from the penalty of sin the power of sin and now the presence of sin when Jesus takes us out of the sin cursed world you heard Debra sing that song at the midnight cry we'll be going home that's when we'll live in the presence of God where there is no sin you want to live a land where you'll never cry again heaven you want to live in a land where you'll never die again heaven you want to live in a place where there's peace and eternal bliss Heaven shaming somebody that's why you should never bargain and trade away your salvation for anything on this earth it's not worth it same answer body you realize we only have a few years on this earth right just before I got here this morning I was at a hospital in Harlem went to pray for somebody they said to one week ago she just said I'm not feeling well took at the hospital she's in a coma right now they're getting ready to get up pull the plug do you know why we know wirless sin and death and everybody in here will die I know you don't feel that way now but it happens in a moment in that tweet clean but when Jesus takes us out this world of sin we live in the presence of God where there is no sin now what are the three salvation movements pardon progress and paradise when Paul says work out your own salvation what salvation movement is he talking about part no you can't do anything about that because you can't create it you can't pardon yourself is he talking about paradise no you can't take yourself to heaven God takes you there then what is Paul talking about he's talking about progress work out your own salvation with fear and trembling work it out which means you should be making progress every day if there's something defective about your salvation you should work it out I'm not saying you're going to be a super saint what I'm saying is that what you were five years ago you're not that person today you have made progress in your walk with the Lord say men somebody and how do you do it you do it by studying God's Word you do it by praying every time you tempted Sam and somebody you do it by practicing godly Christian living and you get that out of the Word of God so you pray you study your meditate and it brings you closer to God do you realize whatever you pay attention to whatever you look at and whatever you talk about you become that Paul tells us how to work out our salvation now he wouldn't have has told us how to work out our salvation if there was nothing to work out now this idea of working it out is an illustration of a person who has a gold mine and you have to go down into mind to get the gold I have to work it out what is in the mind becomes mine what Paul is saying is you've got gold in you you've got gifts in you young people you've got discipline in you and you've got power in you and a whole lot of you are pumping gas at the gas station when you're really a medical doctor because you've got gifts inside of you a whole lot of you because of laziness you're not excelling in life you don't want to put that strenuous effort out to become what you know you can become I mean talented people every day but they don't have discipline and I mean discipline people who don't have talent but it's succeeding you don't even realize how gifted you are but you have to work out what God has to put in you've got gold in you and I'm not talking about your teeth you see God worked it in but you've got to work it out you've got a great possession that's something in you but you also have a great program there's a word that appears twice in verse 12 and 13 and the word is work you've got a great possession but in order to get your possession you've got to have a great program what's the program work if you want to be free of your addictions and bondage free of habits if you want a new attitude and a new life you've got to work there's something's my parents couldn't do for me they can pray that God will bless my life they could give me an opportunity but they could not work for me and you can take is it a horse to the water is a hog I'm saying right say what y'all don't even know what I'm talking about take a horse to the water you can't force him to drink parents can make available to their children good education good opportunities but you've got to take responsibility same in somebody you've got to go to work on some things and quit meddling in other folks business trying to work other folks program same end somebody I got enough mess in my life for me to be worrying about your mess you've got enough on your plate Christianity is not for lazy people and if you're serious I'd really want to break free of cigarettes lust greed meanness backbiting stealing drugs food negative attitude you've got to go to work on these things work means sometimes seeking counseling a program of recovery a support group a prayer group work means not hanging around certain folk the people you hang around will determine who you are amen somebody I read a Chinese proverb this week it says success is getting what you want happiness is wanting what you got so you may get exactly what you want but does it make you happy does it fulfill you you've got to resist the devil you've got to fight with all your might you've got to go to war you've got to wrestle you've got to resist you've got to stand fast you've got to crawl sometimes got to say to yourself I'm not going there anymore you've got to detoxify good thinking folk have it easy being holy because if you want to be holy you've got to work and you've got to stay out of certain situations change your conversations quit making dirty jokes because you've got to work at this thing same and somebody and the moment you start working at it see if the devil doesn't intensify the pressure cv doesn't send all kinds of people into your life because he wants you back but each victory will help you some other to win same ends about it you've got a great possession you've got a great program but you also have great power in verse 12 Paul says you work it out in verse 13 he says God in you working it out he says you work it out and then he says God in you working it out who is doing the working both of you jool stop stealing you work it out verse 13 joules I'm working it out of you who's doing the working God and I it's miracles and muscle same in somebody because anytime God performs a miracle you've got to do your part if you work God will work in you every miracle that took place in the New Testament was a defining human partnership remember Jesus spent 5,000 with two fishes and five loaves and that's a miracle but a disciples found the fish and the bread and they distributed it to the multitudes that's muscles if Jesus could multiply he could have found it on his own he only does for us when we do for ourselves he only gets involved when we get involved we do what we can and he does what we can't remember Lazarus was dead for four days and Jesus says Lazarus come forth but Jesus told them rolled the stone away when Lazarus was bound in grave clothes he said to them loose him and let him go surely if Jesus would call Lazarus to life he could roll away a stone and loosed him of his grave clothes but he never does for us what we can do for ourselves and if they hadn't done their part he wouldn't have done his part but he promised to put power in our lives to help us over Karma no one should occupy at 50% capacity everyone should want to live in a hundred percent capacity he says you walk I will work God says I'll give you two things I'm gonna work in you both to will and to do for it is God which worketh in you both to will and it to do I'm gonna change your appetite I'm gonna give you a new desire I will help you get over somebody that man you thought you couldn't get out of your system you keep talking about him waiting on his approval and waiting on his call talking about what he did for you and did to you God said if you do your part but just to say if you get a life if you tear up some of those letters if you delete some of his emails if you take his number out of your iPhone if you work God said I will work I will help you get over here man God will set you free if you take responsibility for your life God says I've got a program for you I'll yoke up with you I got will yoke up with you I'll do what you can't when you do what you can some years ago I was pastoring in Harlem many years ago there was a gentleman who would come to church every Sabbath he is the first African American to ever be at the inauguration and perform of a president of the United States his name was Lionel Hampton and Lionel Hampton would come to church every Sabbath I'll preach and he'll sit there I'm a cause never moved but one day I went out of town got back got a call from Lionel Hampton say pastor the preacher who preached last Saturday when he made the appeal I went forward I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and pressed I don't want anybody else in this world to baptize me buddy you so I said listen as soon as I get back here and we have a baptism you'll be in that baptism between that conversation and me next seeing him I got a call Lionel Hampton died he died he was never able to work out what God had worked in but God is a wonderful God because God doesn't judge us by our occasional good deeds or misty's he judges us by the trajectory of our lives and I believe we'll see Lionel Hampton in the kingdom love the Lord but you know what I've recognized when he was going to be buried I was out of the country and they called me they said we want you to come as his pastor to the Riverside Church and we want you to speak at his funeral service at the funeral service three presidents of the United States were there President Bill Clinton Jimmy Carter and George Bush Senior I couldn't make it so I sent Alice Tennant Brooks on and he came back and he told me this he said Lionel Hamptons aide said to him tell the pastor that mr. Hampton said that he's an old man and when he died he was an old man but if he had to live his life all over again he would have been a seventh-day adventists from his youth there's a man the first African American to ever perform at an inauguration of a president of United States who lived his life in the public and yet had one regrets his aide told the story if he had to live his life all over again it would be as a Seventh day Adventist Christian you don't have that regret today young people because you're serving the Lord right now and God wants you to take responsibility for your life for good and bad everybody stand to your feet every head is bowed every eye is closed I want the young people of this church to come down front for consecration as we sing a song in preparation come on down if you're a young person today young man young woman get out of your seats come come from the balcony because we're gonna pray today that God will make us responsible for actions our reactions and our attitudes come come close to the altar from everywhere cross the sanctuary from the balcony and what are young people to come forward young adults join them young people young adults sing let's sing sing a song yah Modell's join us young man young woman from the balcony come from everywhere if you know that song singing what if Lahari [Music] while we do his goodwill [Music] he abides with us still and with all [Music] singing like you're meeting everybody trust and obey [Music] for there's no other way but in Jesus every head is about every eye is closed loving Lord on this day you have challenged us to not be victims but make ourselves responsible for the lives we lead I pray God for every man woman boy and girl but especially today for these our young people at this altar I pray God that each of them will embrace the reality that they are in many ways the architects of their own destiny I pray that they'll recognize that God you want to yo cup with them and to help them and to aid them in the journey of life there are many pitfalls that these young people will face there are many stumbling blocks there are many roadblocks but God it is our prayer today having heard the Word of God that they'll take responsibilities for every detour they make in life they'll take responsibility for every attitude they have they'll take responsibility for every decision they make and every decision they make God we know could haunt them or bless them for the rest of their lives bless them in your decision making bless them in their daily journey bless them in their pursuits of excellence bless them in their career goals bless them in their relationships bless them in their home life bless them in your health give them joy and peace and happiness give them I pray this day what they have already embraced and that is a closer walk with you I pray that you may bless them in their journey with you to become more like you every day so in their walking and in your talking and your conversations in their attitudes they will represent you to the world I pray God for every man woman boy and girl but especially by young people that stay those who have not yet accepted you as their Lord and Savior that they'll make that commitment today Bobby thank you for hearing our prayer in the name of Jesus we pray [Music]
