I'd like to take a second to thank today's sponsor solderstick for sponsoring this video wow we are getting back to work on installing this flatbed on Blue Steel you don't know who blue still is head over to Matt's off-road recovery check out all his videos it's Matt's blue Ford that he uses to pull the heavy record all of his other equipment this truck has been in use since 2016 and it's been used abused and just ran hard so it's here for a couple upgrades we're going to be installing this flatbed and getting some other stuff repaired on the front end that happened at the wrecker games we're going to be getting the truck backed in figuring out the filler neck doing a few odds and ends and just getting this bed ready to install to where we can take it up to Kevin at powder trim Coatings we've got a lot of fabrication stuff we got to do real quick to get this thing done then we're moving on to Bodywork [Music] thank you so we just cut out this box we're going to reconfigure it so that the fuel filler neck is on the correct angle so that Matt can put diesel in this when he decides to it'll actually flow so we had to cut it all up it'll work out we've got a plan to put it all back together make it work we're gonna mount it real quick and check the hoses so Robbie had to run to the auto parts store to get some fuel hosts extended or something I'm not entirely sure so while he's running his auto parts store I'm taking the tailgate apart so I can get the emblem pulled out of this because the emblem has the camera and we want the camera to stay working for Matt so in order to get to it you got to pull all these Torx head bolts out to get the plastic off once you get the plastic off I'm hoping I can access it and not have to cut take more panels off so we got a camera off the tailgate I thought you had to take the back plastic piece off but no you don't emblem pops out there's two bolts that hold it to the tailgate just like that yeah Betsy okay now we can get the tailgate out bring the receiver in and start cutting the that all up so Robbie can make the gussets we're gonna use the receiver part of the where the bolts to the frame the that part of the receiver comes out and he's gonna make gussets that go on the inside of this that will weld to the bed that will bolt to the receiver piece that we cut off okay so I'm just measuring where I need to cut the bracket tree of the receiver off what we're going to do since I have a hard time explaining things the receiver bolts here comes across the square tubing put the trailer hitch in here well we're cutting this section of that receiver out so that way we have the four bolts here we'll build a plate the welds to this with holes drilled in it holes drilled in the receiver part and bolted together and it strengthen up this whole back piece so when they're pulling trailers and pulling people out it doesn't have a tendency to start working its way back and bending it'll hold the solid we're going to assume Robbie just wants to cut right here keep where this is all flat and level all the way down to those welds and then we can have a spot here to drill have this hole already and maybe one right like right there all right so I want to again thank our sponsor of today's video solder stick they're gonna make building these wiring harness the two wiring harnesses that we need for the back of this flatbed super easy so what it is it is a heat shrinkable it's got a solder pellet in the middle it's super super easy I'm going to show you guys just exactly what we're gonna do basically you put the wires in you add some heat to it and it heat shrinks now if you guys want to get yourself some solder sticks click the link in the description use code Rob 20. you're going to be getting 20 off your order of 500 solder sticks got your yellow your blue red and white so that's for different gauge wires we've got two Reds got a reverse lights and then we've got our marker lights we've got to tie them all in so we're going to be building the harness coming from this side dropping over to that side and we're going to be using our solder six super easy you just want to strip your wires back I'm going to connect these three together then we're gonna add a lead to it get our wires placed in there put our wire extension on this side just that easy all right so we've got the brake light circuit all wired up so now we have a harness that's connected all six of these got our lead that'll go to the truck we've used our solder sticks to connect them we've got good flow on the solder sealed up so no moisture is going to get inside that wire if you want to get yourself some solder sticks make sure you click the link in the description use code rob20 you're gonna be saving 20 off your 500 piece of solder stick connectors let's get back to work okay got the receiver up here on the scissor stands so I'm going to get this cut off there's one side got them cut off so now we're just gonna go and Loosely just attach them to the bottom of the bed and see what we got to do for plates that's what's going to look like get the other one installed and we'll wait for Robbie all right so I've got this filler neck area completely rebuilt I had to put it on a slight angle friend got it all welded I'm gonna let that sit overnight I still have to rebuild the inside of this box I took and I angled it down that way the fuel hose can run down like it's supposed to now we're gonna finish getting this mounted Hillbilly's got a backup camera to put on we're gonna get back to work on that in the morning so it is tomorrow all right it is the next day so we've got blue steel outside waiting to come in we got the flatbed here I've got the fuel filler neck area all welded back up the only problem we don't have a backside to this box so what I ended up having to do we had to cut the bend out of the filler neck put an extension pipe on it to make this to where it's a little bit flexible to where we can bolt this to the back side of that plate and it'll go into the fuel tank the way the guy built this he had the plate flat I needed to cut it out and put a little bit of an angle no big deal that's not really something that he would have known so it's no big deal this bed was built to go on any truck specifically for this Ford truck we had to angle it Matt's going to be able when he so chooses to put fuel in put the fuel filler in and it's going to fill it up and not have any issues of the pump not working got that all taken care of now I'm going to be putting a back on the inside of this box to where this box is all finished up and then we're pretty much done fabricating around here hillbilly is actually at the dentist this morning he's getting the last set of cavities taken care of on the top I was about to say driver's side on the top left side of his mouth so next step he's getting veneers so two more appointments he's going to be having that new smile and we're pretty pumped for him so make sure you drop a comment congratulate him let him know he's looking fly he's hearing a little bit you may or may not be able to see his teeth but he's going to be looking sharp because he won't have cavities that he's been so self-conscious about pretty soon he's gonna have a fresh set of pearly whites all right so you guys are awesome in the last video we had so many comments about put some airbags on put some helper springs you need a new fuel tank so guess what we're getting airbag system for this we're gonna find an oversized fuel tank because you all know as well as I know Matt does not like putting fuel in this thing some of you may have noticed I don't like it either but you know what I'm a changed man I'm gonna I'm gonna go back to my old ways and I'm gonna keep everything fueled up this is a small fuel tank that's why Matt runs out so much so he's looking for an oversized tank probably in the 40 45 gallon range so that he can just get in this truck and cruise we are going to be changing the fuel tank we are going to be airbagging it we're going to be putting a new radio in this so that's something that Matt wants is a new head unit or powder coating the front bumper powder coating the bed we are fixing the hood now I know some of you are super concerned because in my last video I did say we're not fixing the hood we don't need to fix the hood it's already fixed I was only saying we're not fixing it because it's already fixed it had a Robbie Layton stick around it had a bleeping Jeep Band-Aid on it that's why I said we weren't fixing it not that we we're actually not fixing it so don't take me too serious this that boom time to get to work all right one around a nice I ground all the edges on this box and the back side I've got it deburred so now what I'm doing so we cut this top and what it did is it left a little baby Gap up here so I'm just sucking the top in a little bit so yeah the box is going to be a little bit out of square but nobody's ever going to see the inside of this box so all we want to do is make sure it's sealed up all right so what I just did is I measured out the inside of the box and I've laid it out on my piece of metal I've got to make like a little pie cut on this side and then come across the top so I've deburred the top of the bottom this is going to be my Square edge of the back plate then I'll grab the grinder here in a second and I'm going to cut this off cut this off just got to find my safety glasses [Music] all right so I've got it all cut pretty close bring it in a little bit it'll work I'm gonna get this up in place get it tacked now I'm gonna get it all situated in here we're doing it matte Style on his flatbed let's mask Style close enough so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to have hillbilly get on the inside and hold a square where I can square up this back wall right now it's out a little bit right there yep okay hold it okay not a square now we just need to pull the top down a little bit of weld here push the bottom up a little just minor things so I'll hurry and get this all welded up okay as you can see I got tape put across the back I've already put the emblem in place found where I need to mark my holes I measured them they're both sitting at three and seven eighths so now I'm going to drill it so we get the emblem installed one hold done one to go [Music] see how good I've done looks pretty good if you ask me and there should be she's on there so I use the strap to bring everything together and I've got some tacks now I'll be able to weld it we'll do the same thing here in a second bring the sides in need to come in just a little bit ratchet straps are my thing Final Touch before it's this is installed Purdy all right so I've got it all welded up I'm going to show you the back side I'm gonna let this cool down for a minute and then I'm going to weld the inside just so it looks a little better um there were a few gaps that I had to close up for what I had a claw hammer I would have used it but I just use the ball peen hammer instead the back's all welded up doesn't look terrible but it's not perfect but for being modified to fit it's gonna work so I'm just going to go in and weld that seam all the way around on the inside so it's a little bit nicer looking all right so another thing that we just realized is this got bent at the heavy raptor games also so Hillbilly's gonna pull this off and we're going to see just how bent it is we might fix it or we might have flog rebuild it we're not quite sure but we're gonna find out that's where we're at time to take the sauce very easy but they've been anti-seize we gotta take this off too because remember Matt's saying that he wanted to cut these horns off because they're blocking his light is it bottom spent oh yep so yeah it's bent down there but Matt was saying he wanted these cut off because he went right in front of his headlights yeah so I just need to call Matt make sure that's what he wants well we could probably cut it out and go have a press brakes and just build a new one now both sides are bent this side's Twisted that side's Twisted we'll call Matt and see what he wants to do about it what we're going to do is we're going to reach out to Harbor Freight we're gonna get a winch for this that way when we get it done we can put a winch in it have this thing just ready to rock and a roll so we've decided to take the bumper off and we'll just strap it to the bed when we take it up to get powder coated so we don't have to do it up there because we already have to get the bed pulled off which is going to take some time foreign take a look at this and see if that's where he wants us to cut it off I don't want to mess it up hey what are you up to [Music] well I couldn't tell it was you with those safety glasses on oh that is sweet well there's blue steel there's your bed I remember at one point we determined this is all bent all of it so we're going to get something figured out with that but we got the front bumper off and then I remember you saying something about these bull horns did you want those cut off okay so we're just gonna cut them and clean them up at the base I wanted to make sure before I dehorned your truck yeah they're in the hitch to reinforce the back of the bed and we've just about got it to where we can take the bed up to get it powder coated we'll get it up there so I'm thinking we're gonna we're gonna both sides are bent that's bent that's bent and they're Twisted at the bottom and then both frame ends are bent oh the trucks framing frame it I'll show you on the end of the bumper It's got these brackets if you well you can't really see but they're pulled out at the bottom on both sides both of these are are pilled out and then driver's side it's actually got a broken weld from being Twisted I'm thinking this bracketry just that and the winch mount [Music] okay we'll see back's almost all buffed up and I just gotta buff up the inside so I went ahead and got the inside all welded up it's not really structural it's just kind of to make it look like it's welded so now it's welded front and back got a little bit of grinding to do I'm just going to take the grinder in here and buff off some of the slag and round that up a little bit and just clean up some unnecessary slag that we just got and this is all finished so Matt said the key for this is on the ignition if this works this will be the only one in my 34 years of life that actually comes out where's the free I've never ever successfully been able to pull a locking pin off with a key after it's been installed for more than a day but you ever had this stuff well no but we're gonna see if it works I'll be so shocked it's moving it now getting somewhere are we even sure this is the right key said it was on his ignition keys I don't know why you would have one of those freezer Keys the cam won't go on far enough well there's something inside there blocking it or what that doesn't get to be the first locking pin that comes out with the key for my entire life we're gonna cut it off but first we're gonna cut this off two bow horns expertly removed we can get that all ground down now and front bumper will be ready just that easy all right so we just went and got the key for this [Music] oh that was hot there's a hole in my glove ah well this is how you remove locking pins off your hitches in case anybody's curious now I can start getting this ground down all right Hillbilly's gonna get this all ground up now we're headed to lunch so as soon as we get back from lunch we'll show you guys what it looks like so we'll be right back we're all but done so we're gonna let this back down we're gonna set the bed on the truck and then we're gonna start figuring out the rear brackets we're getting close [Applause] well let's back that up let's get the bed set and then we'll move on I'll be a good little guider you're gonna have to go drivers whoa you scare me I'm afraid you're gonna run it into the truck so we might have to do some serious shifting but here's your washers so I'll start letting this down why don't we tack weld these and attack welcome to the bottom so we don't have to sit there and play with them no way did anybody see that you can't see it but those bolts all but dropped right in the hole that's right hey hillbilly tell me how good I did good but tell me how good I did I just did no you didn't yes I did no you didn't yes it did say Robbie Robbie you done good that couldn't have gotten any better if I did it myself you did do it yourself and this box looks good once it's powder coated it'll look even better that is so perfect all right so we pulled the truck out got a good look at the flatbed out here in the sun looking awesome we're gonna do the few final touches what I'm doing right now is drilling the holes for the seven seven pin plug so we can get that mounted Hillbilly's working on the brackets underneath to where we can get those mounted to the back our cameras mounted we're making some good progress another thing that we found out that we need to do right here we've got three stake pockets on the other side it has four so we're gonna actually build us a steak pocket that goes right here and then wrap it with some two inch strap so we're gonna build some two inch strap right here so we're gonna have to get some quarter inch strap and then this is two by four but we're going to cut it down to two by two to make a steak pocket so that'll work out good anyways we got a few things to do we just want to try to think all this through before we take and get it powder coated because if we have to weld after it's going to ruin all of the powder coating add in a steak pocket here that way Matt can straps up to the front sides wherever he needs he can build sides we're just about ready but as you can see fill our neck goes right in oh we got a drill hole for that so we'll put a hole right here so this will come off and stay that way when Matt chooses to use it he won't lose his cap part of the receiver that cut off the mounting plates more measure they're up underneath bolt into the frame we want to measure how far how long of a plate I need to go from the inside of the bed right here to the plate so that way we can get it cut well into the bed drill holes and be done the reason we're doing that we don't ever want any Flex on this on the back end of this so we're building brackets that come off the frame we're going to mount to these main gussets which mounts to the receiver Matt should never have any issues Towing so I got the mounting part of the receiver off right there it's about the flush the bottom of the bed so it's that much too long so it sticks blow so what I'm going to do is cut the line here and then cut right on the bend and Pike cut this chunk out so that way I can fold this down and re-weld it back up so it looks good and it's strong okay so I got the pipe cut out of one of them now I want to hammer it and get it bent over itself then I'll weld that up trim it so it's flush all the way down and this bracket will be done and then I got to build the plate weld it to the bed get the paint cleaned up get a nice clean weld [Music] another paint cleaned up then I'm going weld both sides and then clean up the so it looks like it's factory [Music] got the inside all welded up now we'll flip it over clean the paint off this side and weld the outside up [Music] got the outside welded so now I'm just going to kind of round it up clean it up make it look good that mountain Plate's done no I just got to get the other one pulled off and get it all taken care of now let's go cut those tails off they're done [Music] now they're all done so instead of picking this up this whole sheet of 3 8 up and stick it up on the table I'm just gonna cut there there there and down it's gonna be easier to pick up one chunk instead of the full chunk and get this put up on there good enough drawing up a cad drawing a cat is a mock-up of a bracket that needs to be cut so I'm going to measure from here out so we'll go five inches because what we're going to do is uh weld the plate to the bed and then all the plate to this plate because if we will the plate long enough to come over here the bolt up that will be fighting to get the bed off if they ever need to take the bat off so what we're going to do is we'll apply onto here that'll come out to like right here and one that goes to like five inches and then bolt it together nice straight cut this one will be welded to the bed this will be welded to the receiver hitch bracket go over lap like that so we can go put three bolts in it just getting the stick pocket measured out we're using two or four by four square tubing couldn't find none of our two by two two by four these pockets are four inches wide two and a half deep inch and 15 16 Sloan I already got the inch and 15 16 right there I don't know if you can see it do a white line so you guys can see it better draw that one first this one come across the top across the bottom that's all very straight right there so now I'll get that cut so once Robbie gets here we can get welded on got any safety glasses got the grinder time to cut got my side cuts done now I just need to do the up and across all the batteries for the grinder is dead so I want to take it stab at the band saw see how straight I can make it grind down we really need to invest in a belt sander make this life a lot easier okay so where I grinded the welds off where the horns were uh has really bad scratch marks so Robbie says to get some 80 grit on a DA and get rid of those deep scratch marks okay got it all sanded so there ain't no deep grooves tell me you love it I do love it they actually did your job Perfection so as we were walking outside to go look at the piece that he just built out of 4x4 I found the piece that we knew we had Hillbilly's gonna recreate it so that it's perfect because this one's a little ski Wampus but I mean this looks great it's always q1 plus you can stare at it I know quick let's look straight let's go at least look but then we'll rebuild them yeah see and then we'll take the strap and then I'll just go right off that edge right off that edge so it's got some support a little matchy match perfect you know what no screw it never mind making an executive decision just bevel those let me quicker to beveled up because nobody's gonna ever look and see how out of square your piece is except for me I'll know but hey so out of square it's pretty flat it's flat but it's flat on an angle so hillbilly got me some CAD drawings for the brackets on the back of blue still so now I'm going to transfer these in to my cad system punch it all in and we're going to cut it out of 3 8 plate over on the plasma table I'm just figuring out to make sure that all of my stuff that I program is going to be cut out in this little section it's got some scraps but it's what we're using one set of brackets is done why the other one's getting cut let's get these all deburdened cleaned up set coming right up sir second set it's done it's got to get them out and get them cleaned up foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] done now we can get them installed so I'm gonna get to work on getting the stake pocket all mounted up Hillbilly's working on the rear bracketry he's got this all beveled for me so I'm going to measure it out get this on once I get this welded in place I'm going to be building some strapping that's going to actually kind of reinforce it and give it a little bit of strength we got our welding blanket here we do not want to burn the cab corner of blue still this shouldn't be too difficult Hillbilly's going to get the brackets all clamped into place and then we'll move the welder back there and get that all welded so we've got this piece here the rear brackets and I think correct me if I'm wrong I think that's all and then we're going to zip tie some lights put a few nuts on the bed so it doesn't fall off on the drive up to Kevin's and then we'll be ready to drive this Salt Lake and drop the bed off and the bumper and all the other pieces oh you do a very good job of cleaning this up there's still some slag okay so what I'm doing is I'm going to put these in place where I need them hold them with clamps and then wait for the welder because Robbie has it right now he's not gonna be using it for very long not gonna take very long to do his job okay set everyone that one and this one no that's not why I want that one I have it sitting too high and this one I'm gonna be right there so I have to move my bedside of the bracket as you can see I don't got it in the right spot [Music] all right so I've got this welded now I've got to go cut my straps and figure out because it's going to come out and around and back I don't like how that's sitting um all right so I've got both my little pieces cut we'll get these tacked in so they just go right here right like that be able to weld that in got another one over here same deal we'll tack that in place and then I will get a piece that comes across the back so it's just going to match all this stuff so what I'm doing is just deburring all the edges a little set flush you weld it all in all right what I'll do now is I'm going to measure this out so that's going to be three and three quarters of an inch and I'll have a big bevel I'll be able to weld that all in and then we'll be able to round this off looks just like the front snake pocket so we want that look like it's being reinforced so if you look right here see how that's got our nice round transition that's how it's going to look put a big gap up that's a gap right there I don't like that all right so I've got this where I want it I'll just burn it in get it all welded and then we're gonna do some grinding you gotta put one more little pass build this out all right so I've got this all welded I'm gonna let it cool down before I grind it but I'm going to give the welder back to hillbilly so that he can start getting his brackets all done but for the stake pocket now we've got it wrapped now I'm going to grind this so it's got a nice little Contour to it I got the brackets in place clamped I'm going to start welding now foreign a second I'm gonna have to add a little bit of weld because right here I'm just not quite able to get a good round transition so wait for Hillbilly to get done blades a little weld a little weld grindy grind and that'll be done that's looking good way better than not having a stake pocket there so I think we'll be I think we'll be much happier with that okay now we got the inside welded time 12 the outside of this mount [Music] now I have to pull the receiver side of the back Mount off because I'm not able to get on the front side the plates are too close together and I don't want to end up welding together and then not be able to take them off one side completely done welding I just got drill holes now but I'll ring the other side welded before I drill the holes I think that's enough then we'll grind it on down and see perfect it's exactly what we wanted now I'm repeating the same steps I did on the passenger side on the driver's side then this bed will be done well I gotta drill holes and then this bed will be done now that I've got that all finished up I've just got to drill this hole and we'll be done so I'm going to mark this out right here that's where I want to drill my quarter inch hole and when I've kind of drill on an angle [Music] a center punch that and then drill it out that it hurts yeah all right this is gonna work I might need a little bit bigger hole I'll go check all right I went too small so I'm gonna find the correct size like a glove once that's powder coated it'll have a little extra it's poured in there look at that like we intended all tucked up neat inside of there don't worry I'll get it all right so Hillbilly's got these brackets all welded up he did some hole marking I'm gonna drill out these to the bolts and that'll be it I believe we have a few little things that we'll wrap up in the morning then we're taking this to Kevin's got all those holes drilled so Hillbillies getting this last little Stitch weld done then I'm gonna go drill the three holes he's gonna Mount the passenger side bracket with the bolt I'll drill this we'll Mount that make sure it's all good and then the bed will be officially mounted you know what if we just do these at the back and Two Nuts like the second row up yeah that'll be plenty to haul it Salt Lake foreign because the Plate's still really warm but we'll drill it all right they're drilled let's see if my barkings are good boom now I'll just gotta get the wrench and suck it and get them snugged up tightened I mean got them all tightened up the back of this bed is fully secured all right so we've got all of the major fabrication done hillbilly got it all bolted back up I got that finished we have three minor things to do in the morning we got some ground studs some zip ties holders and we're gonna zip tie some tail lights right here so we can drive this to Salt Lake we've been thrashing all day we're tired so we'll see you guys in the morning it is tomorrow okay so it's the next day there's just a couple things we got to do to finish this bed up which is we're gonna put two bolts or two nuts on in the center to help hold it just for transfer transporting it we got to do ground studs zip tie holders which we're not doing zip tie holders no more we're going to use cable clamps just because zip ties get rid on break these will take longer to deteriorate and break and then we got a zip tub zip ties the tail lights in place for transportation for transporting Steve went found uh little screws for the ground wires for the lights I got the bolts for the ground or the clamps so we'll start getting everything in place okay so I just went and grabbed the tail light harness and light it out so that way I know exactly where I need to mount the studs for the clamps and I think it's going best if we Mount them to the runner the rear Runner that we installed now that I have an idea start welding okay why wait for those studs to cool off because we want to be melting nothing you want to mount the bed down got one done now working on the other one golden okay so the studs now welded on are now cooled off I'm gonna start getting the wiring all secured in place just like that okay I got them all the wiring all secured up and so Steve's gonna show you how I done that now it's time to get the tail lights zip tied in place temporarily just for transport I think that's gonna be our best bet around this right there and down here that right there we'll do Dandy on transporting it and I'll get the other side done and tail lights will be done now it's time to hook the batteries up and test to make sure the backup camera Works blinkers work brake lights work first things first let's check the backup camera looks good now brake lights and blinkers left blanker works right blinker Works hazards work I think we can put a big old fat check mark you're not sure what size instead of grabbing two or three sockets just grab the whole rack of sockets [Music] okay all the bolts are pulled so you know what that means that's right time to pull the front bracket off no get it all loaded up and strapped down okay so instead of putting every individual piece on there and multiple straps to strap everything down we're gonna bolt it all together the way it's supposed to be so that way we only need one strap okay I got the main base plate or the main base of the bumper on and I'm going to slide the light bar part onto the yeah and then the winch part that he's part of the whole bumper [Music] I think it's that bottom bolt it was tweaked a little bit so pull it back off as you can see it's pinched the bottom one's leaning up towards the front bolt so if we can't get that fixed so I don't mess the threads up it means a piece of pipe slide it on there and hitting the pipe that's straight pretty close if you ask me let's give that a try I think these airs are bent in a little bit but we'll get it to work I guess we will okay we finally got it we have it kind of tweaked the bracket not bend it but just put a little pressure in the center so it folds them in like this and it so now we'll get it tightened
