after the highest of highs with season 2 of the cuphead Netflix show I was like many really anticipating what season three would bring in terms of Cameo characters and fun storylines and well if that's what you were looking forward to you might be disappointed unlike Season 2 Season 3 of the show is super character focused on the core cast so cuphead mugman chalice Kettle and especially the devil take up most of the story and screen time however as I think about it this isn't really a negative as I loved all of the arcs in this season and especially the overarching and super foreshadowed plot that leads to a satisfying if a tad Bitter Sweet Endy we got some more amazing facial expressions some heartwarming moments and also some extremely dark backstory on the main characters so I will do a mini review of each episode like I did last time and try my absolute best to not get demonetized or pulled this time as fair use laws are hard to combat even if you are in the right so episode 1 picks up right where we left off after season two with mugman imprisoned in Hell by the devil after cuphead stole his Pitchfork mugman continues his psychotic behavior abusing the demon guard's self-consciousness about his teeth and keeping up with the theme of last season mugman just straight up murders him by roasting him in a fire pit [Music] somehow I feel this the simple logic and jokes of the show are really endearing and I love the ancient rule for the Pitchfork of Finders Keepers losers Weavers this episode also features the best quotes by the devil yet pass these Hooves also I love how it's implied and then proven true throughout the whole episode that everyone goes to vacation at the same place no matter if you are a hellish Denizen or someone from a more magical astral realm episode 2 features the return of baby bottle from season one there are a lot of meta references like how the cups shoot finger bullets in the main timeline everything around here is always trying to steal our souls or transform into monsters around [Music] me how people like myself said cuphead is the annoying one in the previous seasons foreign and how things never go wrong when they split up the return of amazing facial expressions is hype and this show really has the best mood in a while also the slapstick stuff really hits different also love the bear just being a realistic bro but alas baby bottle gets another victim episode 3 has a great cold open of the devil's Opera talents which is foreshadowing for the overarching storyline of this season and we get another kind of meta joke where the devil is complaining about wanting to be loved and idolized by fans but only the hero is when in reality the character and voice actor are a fan favorite if not the fan favorite also nice to get some more Sally stage play and during one point of the episode they played what seemed to be reminiscent of the treetop trouble OST from the game but not exactly the same this furthering the strange Trend to use odd music for certain moments like how they used beppy's theme last season when he wasn't even in it the next episode presents the return of stickler I loved how much devil we got this season double heartstring moments when the fail bubble that is snares everything you love and cherished picks up henchmen and when the goat looks inside the house all sad at how the devil Cat is being treated so nicely speaking of which the devil cat stuff was super cute final shot giving us a happy turn to the ghost story and I'm glad the goat was more of a character this season episode 5 was kind of the low point for me great to get some more pork rind but to be honest the episode was kind of forgettable in the first half except the two Jesper joke with the trees the show is at its best when some elements of chaos are present so the chasing after the tree gag was great especially the Sawmill scene and if you noticed it earlier I think this was the payoff moment for all the horrible puns in the previous episodes wow those bears were really mad yeah and we barely just paid online [Music] episode 6 was the longest episode yet and featured the devil as the main character this might be my favorite episode of the show it also feels like it could have been made as a Netflix Christmas special movie but got put into the show last second we had great moments with the hell cast stickler and the henchmen both had a good bit of screen time we got a freaking Santa cult the transformation scene was half hilarious and half horrifying and damn the devil's body count keeps racking up kills a lot of people predicted a Redemption type Arc for cuphead after his extremely annoying season two but maybe the payoff for that whole Arc was this scene where he admits his wrongs and the devil does something nice obviously the nice thing was never gonna stick he is the devil also anybody else reacted like this when he said thank you henchmen episode 7 has more pork rind which means more fun some more mugman annoying the absolute bejesus out of the pig also it's a tad bit strange that ribbian croaks of all the bosses in cuphead have gotten the most screen time in the show minus devil and dice of course but it's fine I like them they just don't come across as the fan favorites that everyone wants to see I'm just surprised calamaria didn't show up again the disguises were great but obviously this episode was mostly set up for the rest of the season which deals with a main plot and what seems like maybe the finale of the show it's episode 8 and King dice is back baby damn that voice actor can sing [Applause] and has that Pizzazz that helps bring the show to life as well as hell apparently hobo dice was pretty great but also kind of dark with how things were looking recently IRL especially him eating his own shoe for breakfast [Music] we got our first 10 out of 10 devil facial expression which is pretty much the face any of us make when sticklers on screen I couldn't really tell if mugman was doing the hand puppet or if it was actually its own entity what do you guys think season 2 featured Bull Boys a freaking creepy murder psycho and the ending to his episode was both ominous and open-ended but we may never get a continuation of that story while boboy is a background character this season to be honest when the episode first started I thought we were witnessing the return of the psycho with the fireworks and all that but it turned out to be Miss chalice which in hindsight makes much more sense the best gag of the episode was when elder Kettle wakes up confused where's money and gas went and why he's in town with no memory and then he smiles and says still got it Kettle must have gone on some serious Benders in his past episode 10 is kind of the payoff for the show's version of Miss chalice remember all that build up in the previous episodes well it turns out it's been building up this for all three seasons which is just not something you see generally in a cartoon and while I had missed chalice completely wrong context often changes perspective yada yada but this episode went dark Miss chalice comes from an orphanage run by basically slaver Penguins where to keep your spirits up she dances all the time she finally escapes and learns to use her dancing to manipulate others to survive growing up in such an awful place it would make sense that she would have no problem doing this it's how she survives along anyways and was never really taught different [Music] but then it gets darker when she is hit by a car and freaking dies and in order to save herself has to sign a deal with the devil for a favor it makes sense that the devil has any interest in her at all as the devil has been set up throughout the show but specifically this season as someone who is really into dance and theatrics I also love the fact that she tells her entire backstory to the henchman and he just doesn't give a and finally we get the finale which gets even more dark when we see what Miss chalice would look like over time after she died obviously she doesn't want to end up like this so she agrees to the devil's master plan of betraying cuphead and mugman to get their souls to the devil but at the last second Charles ends up not being able to betray the cups mostly because of how simple-minded and interesting they are instead she tricks the devil into a dance-off that goes on for quite a good bit and as a major fan of the game I really enjoyed this moment snazzy music and sharp animation are huge factors in why the game is so great so I felt right at home in this scene she would have won the dance off too if not for cuphead which the devil is amused by but cuphead always a bit of a gambler challenges the devil to a game of chance with rock paper scissors and completely humiliates him we have of course seen cuphead's skills at games of chance previously many times so this makes total sense we then see that while non-canon the season ends with the devil opening up his Casino which we see in game which gives a bit of closure for the show so those that want to have this as a prequel to The Game in their headcan and can imagine it fitting in I'm not sure how well the numbers for the show are on Netflix and signs are pointing to the end of this series which is a bit Bittersweet we never really got some of the fan favorite characters like bappy and goopy or the DLC characters either who knows maybe they will do future Seasons that will be kind of like the DLC was for the game a separate Adventure either way while maybe not quite as good as season 2 in terms of content I really loved the quality of the episodes and the humor was probably the best it's been whether or not there will be more cuphead seasons or sequel to the game well we will just have to wait and see but I am super thankful at least for the three seasons we got and I'm glad it was able to go from kind of a mid-tier show in season one into a high quality comedy in the final two seasons really one of the best animated shows I've seen in quite some time what do you guys think of the show overall do you want more seasons which characters didn't make it into the show that you would have liked to see if you're still watching at this point I am contractually obligated with the Devil Himself to ask you to please like And subscribe to get more of that
