Creepy Man Stages Bizarre Kidnapping to Convince Girlfriend to Marry Him | Julian Buchwald Analysis

hello this is Dr Grande today's question is can I analyze the case of Julian buckwald just a reminder I'm not diagnosing anybody in this video only speculating about what could be happening in a look at the background of this case move to the timeline of the crime then offer my analysis Julian Maas buckwald was born in 1985 in Germany his family moved to Australia when he was an infant they lived in buger Victoria the small town is about 108 Mi southeast of Melbourne Julian's family owned over 12200 Acres most of which was Bushland to make a living he worked as a lumberjack as he continued residing with his parents sometime around 2006 Julian met a teenager named Carolyn Watson at the warwell Apostolic Church she lived with her parents 12 Mi north of buggery in the town of Churchill both Julian and Carolyn were Christians and strictly followed their belief system any type of sexual contact before marriage was prohibited so the most risque Behavior they engaged in was holding hands when Carolyn was 17 years old in 2008 Julian implored her to marry him as soon as she turned 18 she was was n too keen on the idea and really wanted to finish high school before getting married the church pastor agreed recommending that the young couple slow things down this did not deter Julian from vigorously pursuing Caroline now moving to the timeline of the crime Julian asked Carolyn's parents if he could take her on a picnic on the property owned by his parents the plan was to eat lunch by a waterfall plant some trees and wrap up the day by 300 p.m. permission was granted for the young lovers to spend the day in the bush on March 4 2008 the day of the picnic julan hid several items on his parents' property including a baclava a map a blanket duct tape ropes military style pants and gloves he then took his gold 1999 Nissan Patrol SUV to pick up Caroline as they were on their way to the waterfall Julian stopped the vehicle telling Carolyn that he wanted to investigate an animal carcass that he claimed he just passed on the road he said that it would only take a few minutes stopping to look at dead animals was typical behavior for Julian so Carolyn was not alarmed Carolyn stayed in the vehicle as Julian walked back down the road and out of view at this point Julian changed into the clothing he had concealed on the property earlier and returned to his vehicle pretending to be a different person instead of mild mannered Julian The Lumberjack he was now an aggressive kidnapper Carolyn did not recognize Julian she believed she was being approached by a stranger as she screamed in horror Julian opened the door of the Nissan Patrol pulled her out and tied her up he then put her in the rear seat of the vehicle Carolyn assumed that this attacker was going to murder her as she remained in the back of the vehicle contemplating the horrible things that could happen to her Julian started driving in preparation for his scheme he had left a note near his parents residence which his mother found the note indicated that a satanic cult was responsible for the kidnapping of both Julian and Carolyn the family was instructed to tell everyone the couple was on vacation and there was to be no talking to the place if they cooperated Julian and Caroline would be returned to them alive despite the directions contained in the note Julian's mother contacted the police Carolyn's father told the police that about 10 days earlier he had found a bizarre note as well the note indicated that his family needed to mind their own business or they would be destroyed it also talked about how the writer of the note was an enemy to Christians Carolyn's father notified the police at that time but they believed it was just a prank the note contained the same style of writing as the one found by Julian's mother and both notes contain the same satanic symbol now the police took the situation seriously and initiated a massive search effort as this was happening Julian drove to the Bucking Headwaters Wilderness in Alpine National Park which is about 5 hours away from where the kidnapping took place he took Carolin out of the SUV and drove about 60 ft to conceal the vehicle using his knife he cut off his own clothing as well as Carolyn's clothing and hid them Julian initiated the next phase of his plan and moved into a prone position on the ground 6 ft away from Caroline using a weak voice Julian called out as if he was a kidnapping victim just like her he didn't want to speak too loudly or that would attract the kidnappers Carolyn recognized his voice and was happy he was there Julian freed her from the ropes and the pair stood there naked trying to figure out their next move the story that Julian supplied to Carolyn started when he was looking at that animal carcass the last thing he remembered was two kidnappers striking him in the head with a metal rod these mysterious perpetrators must have taken both of them to their current location it was critical that they immediately run into the bush to escape looking around they saw a sleeping bag containing a few items ostensibly left by the kidnappers they grabbed the sleeping bag and made their way into the Wilderness Julian convinced Caroline that the only way they were going to stay alive was to keep moving he knew exactly where they were but pretended to be lost over the next several days the young couple wandered through the bush hiding in vegetation in the day the couple was hot and at night they were cold they slept in the sleeping bag in order to stay warm Julian suggested to Carolyn that they have sex but she rejected him holding to her religious beliefs similarly Carolyn turned them down when he said they should get married in the eyes of God before the kidnappers murdered them she pointed out that her parents would not be happy with that decision after a few days the young couple wandered back to the area where the kidnapping had occurred and Julian just happened to spot a backpack containing their clothing he made it seem as though the kidnappers must have clumsily left this backpack behind even though the clothing had been damaged by a knife the couple put it on because it was better than nothing now they were a little less miserable as they continued to run around the Wilderness after 6 days of trying to convince Carolyn to have sex with him and to marry him Julian finally realized that his plan was not going to be successful he navigated back to a road which led to the couple being spotted by a farmer in a utility vehicle the farmer picked them up took them to his house and called the authorities when the police searched the scene of the attack they found a knife clothing a shovel duct tape and rope all of which belonged to Julian initially he denied any wrongdoing but then when confronted with the evidence Julian confessed that he was the kidnapper the entire scheme was designed to get caroan to marry him Julian was arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping at his trial his defense argued that he suffered from a pervasive developmental disorder which meant that he struggled to empathize with others the jury was not convinced in August 2009 Julian was victed of kidnapping and making a false report he was allowed to remain free on bail as he awaited sentencing which was scheduled for September 17 one day before this on September 16 Julian disappeared while the police were looking for him he was sentenced in absentia to 7 years and 9 months in prison as it turns out Julian was no longer in Australia he had somehow obtained a fraudulent passport and pretended that he was a citizen of India Julian dyed his hair black obtained a fake tan and flew to Singapore he managed to deceive the authorities in both Australia and Singapore the party would end for Julian after catching a flight to chenai India the authorities there were not deceived for a second to them it was comically obvious that Julian was not Indian they put him back on a plane to Singapore where he was arrested eventually he was sent back to Australia where he had another 6 months added to his sentence for skipping bail Julian explained the passport by saying that someone just handed it to him but the court did not believe him law enforcement was convinced that someone helped Julian get the passport but they never caught this accomplice in October of 2014 Julian's Visa was cancelled for some reason he had never obtained Australian citizenship even though his sister had if he had become a citizen he could have remained in the country eventually Julian was put on a flight to Germany his Adventure in Australia had come to its conclusion now moving to my analysis here are my thoughts on a few areas that stood out to me in this case item number one the police started looking for Julian and Carolyn after the note was discovered but they had no idea where they were as it turns out they were looking in the wrong place they went to the pastor of the church the young couple attended hoping to gain some insight into the notes that were left behind by the satanic cult investigators thought the pastor would immediately be on board with the satanic cult explanation given his religious orientation but he didn't believe it even for a second the pastor thought that the kidnapping had been staged by the young lovers so they could run away together this theory was more rational than the satanic cult Theory but it didn't explain the notes that had been found it never occurred to anyone that Julian could have written them because right writing something so vulgar was against his religious belief system Julian had been able to deceive people into believing that he was devout item number two from the beginning of Julian's criminal plan he did not intend on killing anyone and ultimately no one died this has led to some people feeling sorry for Julian like he was a young man looking for love who went astray it might have been a silly and ill-advised plot but he was not a future serial killer maybe his punish M was too harsh I think this view minimizes just how horrible the experience was for caroan she had permanent nerve damage to her neck back and hands from being tied up in addition she had blisters and cuts all over her body her feet were injured and she was sunburned for the entire six days that she was in the bush with Julian she believed that homicide was just around the corner this was incredibly terrifying and traumatic Julian planned this crime for at least 10 days days in advance probably longer than that this was a carefully planned and calculated abduction which indicated a profound lack of empathy even though Julian eventually admitted guilt he fled before being sentenced he was not willing to face the prison time he deserved Julian may have had an unusual motive but that doesn't make his crime any less serious or disturbing he really should have been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison before being deported this brings me to item number number three Julian was not happy when his Visa was cancelled he argued that it was unfair for Australia to deport him he was trying to be a productive citizen after his release from prison and even had job offers living in Germany was going to be challenging because he didn't speak German and he did not know anyone there some people took Julian's side and accused the Australian government of being heavy-handed and unreasonable what I find curious about Julian's argument is that when he skipped baale his intended destination was Germany he was hoping to get a flight there from India his argument about not knowing people in Germany does not ring true Julian had family members there it would seem as though the Australian government gave Julian exactly what he wanted by sending him to Germany they helped him to achieve his escape plan allbe it after he served his prison sentence everybody should feel satisfied with that arrangement now moving to my final item number four what do I think happened in this case this is just a theory my opinion Julian was cold callous self-centered impulsive irresponsible calculating manipulative deceptive remorseless insecure exceedingly creepy and had a sense of entitlement he was highly attracted to caroan and desperately wanted to have sex with her he knew that she was extremely religious so he pretended to be the same way in order to become attractive to her this meant waiting until marriage to have sex Carolyn intended on marrying Julian eventually but he was not interested in Waiting he tried to think of a way to create an artificial situation where Carolyn would have sex with him because if that happened she would probably marry him right away this of course would guarantee more sex in the future at least that's the way he was thinking due to Julian's lack of empathy the best idea he could come up with was a fake kidnapping where he and Carolyn would be running around the Wilderness naked Julian thought that these were the optimal conditions for Carolyn to be interested in sex with him he simply had no understanding of what Caroline was feeling she was frightened injured tired and constantly worried about being murdered yet when Julian suggested having sex Carolyn was supposed to be excited about that idea the only thing that Julian's plan guaranteed was his arrest ironically he started out looking for marriage and ended up in prison some would argue that he didn't miss the mark by much those
