all right today we're going to look at how to create quizzes in canvas we're going to look at three different kinds of questions that you can add into a quiz in canvas so let's begin i'm going to add my quiz right here from the from the module view and add it into this week two under the drop down menu select quiz select new quiz and then i'm going to name it if you have groups of assignments which you can create up in the assignments tabs you can select that i have one called tests and quizzes i'm going to add the item there's a created quiz obviously no content in it yet i'm now going to click on the quiz and then click on edit in this first page here is where most of the selections for different parts of the quiz would happen up here at the top is where under the details is where you would put your main instructions for the quiz so you could put in just any kind of general instructions and here's where you would select what kind of quiz it is you can do a practice quiz that they could do over and over again it wouldn't count towards a grade you can do a graded quiz you can select the grade below a graded survey and an ungraded survey right now we're just going to do a graded quiz you can put a time limit on there you can allow multiple temps if you would like here is where you would select to allow students to see their quiz responses or you can time it so that they can only see it after a certain date that might be good if you if you don't want them to see the test results right away to share it with their fellow classmates show one question at a time which would come up per page rather than seeing them all at once it could also restrict it so that it would require an access code to get into the quiz or filter by ip address which we're not really going to get into because it would demand knowing exactly what ip address are going to be at in order to do that down here assign you can assign your quizzes to everyone or certain people put a due date on that quiz and make an available date when you make something available it actually shows up at a certain time and then it disappears at a certain time in terms of access for the students so i'm just going to put a due date on i'm going to make the quiz due today at 6 p.m they're done okay now to add the questions under the quiz you have to hit the quiz tab up here and select new question now we're going to look at three different kinds of questions today the first one we're going to look at is the one that comes up automatically is a multiple choice question i have over on the right hand side here just some demo questions that i'm going to pull from in microsoft word and this first one is what answer best relates to the meaning of the word renaissance i'm going to copy this and over here i'm going to paste it as plain text right in there and you could either type in or paste in your different answers so possible answers i'm just going to copy and paste over okay so there are all your answers now of course canvas will grade for you so because of this you need to tell canvas what is the correct answer it's not going to know so you have to select on your correct answer there fyi that's multiple choice there's also up here which we won't give an example but there's actually a multiple answer so if it is instead of select one and select multiple or all that apply then you could select the multiple answers from up there up here at the top just like any other content you can change the formatting of it and add pictures media videos whatever you want to do in order to save the question itself you need to update question in order to save all your questions you do need to click save you can't just click out now that question will not be saved so you'd want to hit save probably periodically even though you have to go back in and edit it just to make sure that your questions are being saved what you don't want to happen is to to get kicked out for some reason and have a whole bunch of questions that you've worked on that you think are being saved but they're not actually being saved so let's uh add our next question which will be a true false question you can see here kind of like the multiple choice but just two options come up and my next question is mosaics are not a feature of early renaissance art and that is true so we'll leave it as the default you can also underneath here and give feedback to your students after they've answered the question if you'd like correct answer comments you could say anything you wanted to great job and under false you could say you know if they sell you could say mosaics earlier feature in history and update the question so now let's look at our third one here which is going to be a fill in the blank add a new question call it fill in the blank and you can select multiple possible answers i'm going to say who painted this work and now i'm going to embed this image now you can go up here and click on this embed image button but that is for images you've already uploaded so i need to go back up here to the top click on the images tab upload a new image choose file find the one that i want open upload and it will pop it right into the question and so possible answers here it's not really a true and false it just kind of gives you some possible text there so the actual answer is going to be l greco say you don't really care about spelling maybe somebody put in al greco and say you didn't care about spelling you could also create that as a possible answer and you could put a little thing it's actual and then update your question okay make sure you save it's a good idea when you've created your quiz to go and click on the preview button and you will see how it's a preview of the draft version and what answers best be reborn next mosaics are not a feature of the early renaissance art true and then who painted this work and now because students were able to see the responses you can see the correct answers there you can see the little bits of responses that you put in there below as well as the correct answers when you want to make it available students then you click on publish and you can go back to your modules and confirm that it's there hopefully that was helpful to you please let me know if you have any questions or comments
