hi there welcome back to my Channel today I'm going to show you the essential split screen effect template with over 30 predefined split layouts it's now easy and fun to create and animate split screens for multiple videos not only can you use the existing templates directly but you can also adjust them to suit your needs with the provided parameters or combine different layouts to create your own unique split screens after you download and install the template you can simply drag the template from the effects panel and apply it to the clip on the timeline with the default settings it splits The View into two vertical screens which is the simplest split type in the inspector we can choose one of these 32 layout presets with these buttons to easily see the effect result let's first disable the other Clips here is is a typical workflow to create split screens using the template first select the layout let's say we want to use this one 1 + 2 a which means the screen is divided into three sections at Angles and the letter A here stands for angled next we choose which screen we want to use for the current video clip there are total maximum six screens we can select but for this layout only the first three are visible optionally we can change these settings to adjust the layouts if needed like moving the center point rotating the splits or changing the value of split angles to reset the settings we can click the layout button again once we are done with the layout setup copy the clip select the other two clips and enable them press alt V or select from the menu to open the paste attributes window check Fusion effects click apply select each clip go to the effects tab in the inspector select the screen accordingly now we've assigned three Clips to different sections on the screen let's move on to adjusting the video display inside each screen enable transform overlay select the clip we want to change with the onscreen controls we can move the video around resize or rotate the view you can also adjust these settings in the inspector as usual repeat these steps for each clip okay those were the basic steps for making split screens super easy and straightforward now let's dive into some must know tips which can help you make the most of the template ensure a smooth editing experience and effortlessly animate split screens just like you saw in those intro samples since the template is based on Fusion tools it can get slow with some layouts here are a few things you can do to improve the performance the first one is removing the split screen effect from the bottom clip because it's already masked by the layers above there is no need to add the extra mask for its display take this clip for instance delete the effect the result is still the same the next tip is to disable the Border effect whenever it's possible the Border effect introduces another extra masking layer and slows down the overall effect process in this example we only need the Border effect on the top clip select the clip in the middle turn off the border which doesn't affect the final result either another one is to use the render in place feature once we complete the split setup we can select the clips with the split screen effect right click and choose render in place from the menu make sure to select the codecs that support transparency most of the time I use h265 if you need better quality you can also select the ones listed here here is one more tip for smooth editing focus on one clip at a time when it comes to split screens since the videos are separate there is no direct impact on each other that's why working on one clip at a time is my favorite method for split screen editing for example we can disable the other two clips when we work on the first clip or disable the others if we want to work on the middle one now let's discuss animations there are two ways to animate split screens using video transitions or key framing there are many built-in transitions in denture resolve we can easily drag and drop to apply the transition effect and reveal the split screens for these three screens let's create animations to make them slide in one after another disable the other two clips as we will work one clip at a time apply the push transition okay not bad but here is the catch we don't want the border line on the right side to show up just yet go to the inspector and find the button called show current border only click it and right away only the borders connected to the current screen are visible please keep in mind activating this feature adds an extra masking process and may slow down the effect further later on I will show you another way to animate the Border Lines without using this option to smooth the transition select the transition effect go to the transition tab in the inspector select one of these ease options this is much smoother we can even select the custom option and Define our own e curve okay let's use the out option for this demo now go to the next clip to reveal this scene after the previous one simply move it to the right after the first scene is fully revealed alt drag the transition effect from the first clip to the start of the second one to apply the same transition effect the animation looks great but we are missing the Border go to the effects Tab and enable the border for the second clip similarly enable the third clip move it to the right after the second clip finishes the transition alt drag effect to apply the transition effect we now have created the slide in animations using the push transition effect as mentioned earlier we can create another type of Animation effect for Border Lines turn off the borders for both Clips the animation now runs without Border Lines alt drag the first clip and create a copy on the top move it to the right after the last clip go to the inspector enable the Border click the show current border only button to make sure all Border Lines are visible set to the screen that's not visible for example number five disable other clips and we see that this clip shows only the Border Lines select the transition effect change the transition type to Center wipe in the inspector now we've got a distinct animation for Border Lines after revealing all three scenes in the inspector there are parameters we can use to adjust the layout these options are all animatable and we can key frame them to create animations including the Border width and colors for example we can key frame the split angle to create a wiping effect to reveal the scene move the play head about 1 second to the right where we want to complete the animation and Mark a key frame move to the start of the clip change the value to zero to add the starting key frame we now have got a wiping and revealing effect copy the clip and paste the fusion effect to the others this time instead of selecting different screens we change the start angle for the second one change it to 240 and the third one to zero this looks good we can also add some delays between each clip to separate the animations to smooth the animation go to the fusion page select the split screen node open the spline editor find and select the split angle parameter Zoom to fit the spline for easy viewing and editing select both key frames press shift s or click this smooth button to smooth the curve if needed we can manually change the curve to smooth further at the beginning switching from a linear wipe to this smoother effect adds a more appealing touch to the animation all right this is how we can key frame parameters to make some unique animation effects for the split screens you can play with these parameters and find something that's suitable for your needs this template has a maximum limit of six screens but what if you want to showcase eight or nine screens simultaneously or perhaps you can't find the perfect layout among the presets well here's the solution I'm going to demonstrate how you can easily achieve this by combining two or more layouts together on the timeline we've got nine Clips stacked up and we want to arrange them in a 3X3 layout however the template doesn't support that directly let's disable all others to focus on the first one apply the split screen effect and choose the 3x two layout change the center X to 0.333 which is about a third of the screen copy the clip and paste the fusion effect to the next two clips select the second one change the screen to two for the third one set to screen three we now have the first three Clips shown on the left three sections enable the next clip also paste the same Fusion effect from the first one 1 change the center X to 0.666 2/3 of the screen the fourth clip is now displayed in the first screen of the middle column make a copy of the fourth clip select the next four Clips paste the fusion effect enable the clips select each of them and assign them to different screens enable the last clip great now we've got a 3X3 layouts to show nine scenes simultaneously if needed we can enable the transform overlay to adjust the video settings for each clip okay this is just one example of combining two different layouts to create a new one for more than six videos similarly you can experiment with these presets to create layouts like 2x4 2x5 or any other Arrangement that suits your interest sometimes you want to showcase only a few scenes but couldn't find the desired layout in the preset for example something like this as you've seen in the intro and here is how we can achieve that disable the other three Clips apply the split screen effect to the first one change the layout to 1 + 2A show current border only enable the second clip add the effect select the layout of 3x one copy the clip paste the effect to the next clip select screen two enable the last click clip and there we have it split screens arranged in a layout that combines the results of two different layouts and similarly we can also create a layout like this a 2X two splits with a circular area in the middle all right that's all for today thanks for watching and I'll see you next time
