what's up guys welcome back to TJ huntt Clips which is our second Channel our main channel is TJ hunt on this channel we're doing a lot more behind the scenes look at our GT3 RS rebuild video now I come to you guys today with a question that I need a lot of help with and and we are really going to dive into this question in detail because we talk about it on the main Channel but not nearly to the depth that I want to and I wanted to keep a lot of this controversy and opinion-based argumenting in this video so those of you who don't know this is our GT3 911 this GT3 was a manual gearbox from Factory now when we bought this car it did not come with an engine no Myck oh you have a long way to go brother there's a lot in there didj help oh my God hurry hurry you did on purpose no dude it wasn't shop thanks dude I appreciate it piece of piece of I'm a piece of this car was a factory manual and when we bought our green one we bought the green one mainly because it came with a engine and trans now this is a pdk transmission it's the auto transmission in the Porsche world now the pdk transmission is one of the best Transmissions it's God's transmission it's the best automatic gearbox out there they're so good they're so fast or so reactive probably one of the reasons why the G23 RS is so much faster than the manual gearbox one is just because the transmission is that good so the plan from the very beginning was we're going to put this engine and trans into the red car and the red car is going to lose its manual so and we're going to replace it with the automatic but it being a pdk we're like oh it's better it's better performing we already have it let's just do that so following that plan of attack we we were then stripping the whole entire green car of its interior and its carpets and taking it down to a bare chassis so we could take out all of the ECU modules the ECU of this car and the wiring harness of this car and the transmission shifter so we could swap every nut and bolt out of this car into the red car because the only way that that car could be a PDC transmission is is is if is if it had all of the parts from the green car right then you no fabrication no modification it's a lot of work but in theory it's pretty easy now as we were sitting here talking we had a conversation this morning of but what if we kept the red car a manual what if we didn't do that and kept it a manual why would we want to do that well one I already own a gt3rs that is pdk um and it would be cool to have two different kinds you'd have best Both Worlds you'd have the manual gearbox and you'd have the auto but two when you look at the market value a manual GT3 is worth more than a pdk you can find it from prices all the way from like $10,000 more to $50,000 more it all kind of varies in what spec was built and all that type of stuff which is like very common with these cars but it is more valuable and part of these rebuilds is yes doing them for fun but a large part of it is I love the rush and excitement and the business side of buying something that is damaged and has way less of value putting in the time and work and effort and sourcing all the parts and sourcing everything to rebuild it and build it for cheaper than what it's worth and then when you're done with it you could sell it and make a profit that's really some of the most fun things about these whole entire rebuilds is how cheap can you do it for and get the job done and then you get money for owning it that's part of the fun so the thought is if we put a manual in that car it would make the car more valuable it would be different than our purple one which is nice but also here's the AL but also here's the great kicker if we keep this car manual we don't have to take out any of this interior to swap over the harnesses and the ecus when originally what we were about to start doing is we were about to start stripping this whole entire interior here now I don't want you guys to think that oh we want to do the manual because we're trying to save oursel time and and work on fixing this car but it definitely has a little bit of weight knowing we could save like a week and a half's work of time cuz these are very delicate interiors and swapping all that over the only thing we'll need to do is Source a manual gearbox and we'll need to Source an ECU that's coded to a manual car there's also a slight option that we could maybe just recode the RS ECU to be a manual eccu there's a lot of coding you can do with these I'm not an expert on it so I don't know 100 100% but I'm pretty sure you can and then it opened up the whole entire discussion of like the manual gearbox is actually cheaper than the pdk so I could buy a manual gearbox anywhere from like $133,000 and I could sell my pdk it's worth about 15 to 17 I could make a few thousand B we could have the manual gear box which to me is appealing because again I already have a pdk I don't have a manual save time and work and it seems that you guys in the comment section down below and on Instagram I made a little PLL would you rather see us go manual or Auto it kind of defeats a little bit of the purposes why we bought the green car but at the same time not really we're just not going to be using all the parts we thought we would we' be sourcing something new and selling something Tuan behind the camera thinks that I shouldn't he thinks that I should keep the pdk because he says the pdk is the best why would you want a slower car Manuel's lame Dylan on the other hand's not lame but pdk is god tier but but I already have a pdk true Best of Both Worlds I get that side AR I get that side of the argument but this guy this is my idea Dylan is all in favor of the manual and I think I am too so I'm starting to look at some prices and I kind of want to get kind of want to get your guys's opinion down below should we do the manual I think we should keep it raw keep it raw pdk is faster I'll be the first to admit that and I'm I'm sure it's a better track experience Etc but there's something you let a manual about it's just the purpose like what like it's just the purpose what will this vehicle serve you know what I mean like you already have the P pdk so if you want that experience of a manual 100% that's like kind of the thing too is like it like the purpose if I was to do a ptk the the purpose would be the same purpose as the purple car it would just be the purple car again it would just turn just be the purple W car again yeah and the purpose of that was I love this this is my favorite car in the world this is why I've I've already owned two of them now I three four well I had a purple one I sold it I was like that car is so good I need another one so I bought another RS but the purpose would be hey we have one manual and one purple and before we get ahead of the curve I don't know what I'm going to do with this car if I end up loving it I might keep it forever or I might sell it but having a manual one would serve two different purposes and it would be a higher resale value at the end of the day because the manuals seem to have a higher price point and are more sought-after than the pdks and if we just talk about longterm this car in 10 years will be worth way more as a manual than it will as a pdk I think purpose wise I think be bitching to compare the two on track and see not only which one do you like more but which one actually has a better time in your hands or someone's hands whatever I think taking them both to the track be sick so that gives them both prose I think this one will have a losing hand to start with cuz it's technically not on RS like that thing has a bit more leg up regardless yeah weight weight and tuning so hear me out once we're done with this right the tune the exhaust drivetrain wise other than the manual versus pdk this should be relatively identical can you tune the can you tune pdks there's a transmission tune right well I don't know but but see this this is where what you just said like kind of goes out the window because what's going to be the difference of this car in that car once we're done building this it's just going to be a wi yeah like I'm I'm so I'll be honest so new to these cars but from our research in the past week or two like it seems as if spring rats are like weight sure the RS is a lot more carbon fiber and weight savings weight will be a thing but like as far as like the active toe the motor mounts it's all the same and we're going to be putting an suspension which is going to be better than the factory suspension than I have my purple one and I think it was like someone was saying it was just Springs so right so like mechanically suspension wise and drive Tran wise the difference between your purple RS and this car barring any other modifications we're doing is probably be like 300 lb it's like ECU it really is just styling it's front fenders rear fenders and pull straps for the most part apart from weight saving and we have and downforce of the wing but we're going to have somewhat of a downforce but like this car will will be the same thing as my RS cuz we're going to we're going to tune this engine to be just as fast as the RS engine it's going to have the same exact exhaust setup it's going to be a little bit heavier it's going to have a little bit lesser of breake performance but it's also going to have a better suspension setup than my factory RS so it's like performance-wise other than this one being a manual and pdk it's going to be the same thing is an RS I think for me that's that's the purpose in my mind whether it happens or not I think the purpose is to see the difference of the to on track or just to see which one you like more does does AP make a break setup that can fit 18 18s yes okay but you but like their stuff is like probably like 15 grand incredible but they just they're like we know what we have like trying to find air jacks for the M4 was like they just like put them into the world someone buys them it's not like they have a website that's promoting anything or anything like that like we make the product you know you want it come find it yeah yeah so it's like the brakes are going to be really expensive they're not going to be much better than and the carbon Ceramics are much better than the seals I'm sure they're worlds better but pccps are amazing is that the factory carbon ceramic and as you can tell this conversation has a lot of depth to it and we've been talking about it all morning and right now I'm leaning towards ordering a Mana transmission as soon as possible to get it here because when I think about driving this car in manual I think about when I drove the 997 GT3 which is like one of the cars I want to own at one point in my life but there's been other things that have come up and the best thing about that car was the gearbox the car and the way that gearbox the gearbox felt was so awesome and partly the 997 has a bit of like raw feeling that the 991 doesn't have just because of technological advancements with drivetrain suspension and setup and stuff so like there is that to be said but it felt amazing in manual and when I think about that and then I think about doing this that past experience is really overflowing and is like taking over my thought of like ooh screw the pdk I want have a similar feeling as that so I want to know your guys's thoughts down below are we am I silly for doing that is it do it pull away from the original purpose of the green car but at the same time like if we can sell some parts to make more money and continue to build on like I'm like screw it screw the pdk we bought that for the pdk and the engine but Ian you still get in seats and the motor still get seats and the motor yeah and you guys will get to see it faster to be totally honest like I don't the will happen faster what's that you're right I don't know the inner work working of the wiring harness or if there's a uh a pin out or plug out that you can change for the pdk versus not having one for the manual transmission but like pulling the entire wiring harness from that car and then disassembling the entire interior and drive train of this car to pull this wiring harness like it's just going to be faster we go for us to go manual transmission also the pedals are already there like all the stuff that's hard to find I didn't even think about the pedals yeah I did not even think about that around the center console the bezel all that stuff like it's there yeah it's there and like I'm no ST and scared of hard work but like it just sounds it's already like presenting itself to you let manual take me I think as the conversation progresses even though I'm team pdk because this is because this is like a Frankenstein RS like having a manual is kind of like you know serves that purpose too you know well it's more Frankenstein if there is a manual if there is a manual exactly yeah can't go wrong either way I have I did look it up people have done rs's with the manual G did they only come pdk yes mhm really only rs's yeah but the GT3 is come in either the GT3 was the one big selling point is that you could get the GT3 and a manual it's the close thing to the RS know production numbers manual versus pdk for GT3 I no I don't but it's probably there more pdk in manual sure I bet I bet it's like sub 15% yeah now here's my question that someone probably knows are the pdks in the GT3 and rs different or is it the exact same thing it's the exact same thing okay yes the what we've learned is a tune it's just a tune T ECU are the only differences the two differences of the car are weight Arrow spring rate uh spring rate that has it Tire uh Tire width um well no it's the same same setup on both engines are I identical tuned it's kind of like the uh rsq8 and anur same engine same ECU just tuned differently what yeah you know the RS Q8 has a faster nuren lap time than the SS wait the RS a Sabrina's SUV oh yeah the copycat Audi version it's like 200k less it's the same car minus interior bits and styling but they're the same engine damn they're just tuned differently what M same thing and the exhaust set ups a little bit different but yeah you can buy an exhaust you can buy a tune yeah yeah so I don't know I I I kind of want to make a manual weigh in down below so I'm reaching out to you guys for some help um and while we're on this top of the GT3 Twan come with me in the last video I told you guys all the engine parts that we ordered uh and how much we spent all of it good news the parts already here they just got dropped off from Porsche they're right in there on that box but we ordered two major pieces of the puzzle um for the red car so we'll go into the office I'll give you the price breakdown on both of those very quickly take a seat take a seat should we show them little sneak peek oh that doesn't come out yet sneak peek it's little mini sneak peek um hunco is having a new drop on Friday that would be may3rd we're dropping these t-shirts uh really cool cup holder uh coasters for your car'll make sense you'll see it on Instagram and stuff but we have a new drop coming out uh that is all counts towards the giveaway so if you haven't found anything you like so far we're updating the website with a bunch of new stuff that I'm personally excited about we're also adding these hats and stuff I've got a lot comments about that but let's get back to the build here so we ordered a used frontend tub cuz like I told you guys in the last video when you are buying uh parts from Porsche you cannot buy structural parts for from them unless you're a certified shop so we went around the rule and did something you can do and that's buy a used front tub off of another car so on eBay we have found a used front tub from I think it's is to Carrera I'm G to show them um hold on let me pull it up first um here we go it will be here on Wednesday and bear with me you guys I can't show it won't let me show the listing but I can show you this so we have purchased this front tub which from Porsche is about $20,000 and this comes with the the front clatch that we need it even looks like there's a harness in there I don't know 100% but this I purchased for a price of $6,999 with taxing and shipping included comes out to $8,000 and then I have also ordered a front bumper which I don't know if I can find the listing for it but I know how much I paid for it so all is well um I bought a complete front bumper for the car here it is view your order oh and it's already guards red and it is guards red which saves money I bought this with shipping for about $99,500 so that is a Porsche 991.2 front bumper the exact number we need with all the Plastics which when you buy these you can buy just the front bumper but that does that doesn't include all the fascia and trimming and LED lights and all the back housings and all that stuff and this one is already painted in guards red which is going to save us about $11,000 in paint bought that for $9,500 which makes our total so far for this video about what's 9,000 plus 800 about 17 let's call it $18,000 on the front end we're still going to need to order some auxiliary radiators and some lines and headlights all of which we have an ordered yet because we're still waiting for everything to come in so we can make an accurate list so so we can make an accurate list because we don't want to over order but so far with yes with what we spent in the last video was around $2,000 we are about $20,000 in Parts into this build and our starting point was about 105 so right now we're at $125,000 keep in mind this car brand new if you were to buy it right now is about $210 I'm estimating if we don't run into anything silly I'm estimating that we should be able to spend under 135,000 at worst under 140,000 to get this car back on the road but remember and we'll make a full video doing the the cost breakdown so you could see how we're doing this but we have a bunch of parts from the green RS that we are going to be selling I imagine on a good on a good whim we could probably get close back to $30,000 of parts from the green car sold which would put us probably around just over $100,000 to to rebuild this whole to car once we have sold everything else that right there ladies and gentlemen is a good flip and a good buy and a great rebuild and I hope that by you guys watching these videos you can kind of see how the logic and math happens when you buy these crash cars because again only owning the cars and driving them is really cool owning them for way cheaper than what they're worth is even cooler but what's even better than all of that is doing it and enjoying the process of rebuilding it and making a little bit of cheddar at the end of the day and with that I hope to see a big debate down below because I want your guys' feedback on the pdk versus manual transmission argument I'm leaning towards manual what are you leing to this I'll see you boys in the next clip
