[ROCK MUSIC] What in the world? I know it's rough. But this is a good thing. This is a good project. It's going to be a cool truck. Ryan said something
about a really cool paint project coming in. I'm looking at it. This can't be it, man. This thing only looks like it's
good for hauling cans of paint. You told me that there was a
new project, but where is it? This-- this is it. This is it right here. Chevy long bed. '73? Yeah. America's transition
from the '60s to the '70s was reflected in the
auto industry's changes in design and aesthetics. Cars became more
plush and flamboyant, while trucks sported more
squared off and cleaner lines. Trucks also featured
more car-like amenities. GMC's new square body,
rounded-line design debuted in 1973 and would
last for years to come. But while times were a-changing,
one thing remained the same-- American muscle. The GMC custom pickup
truck trim package went from a 305
small block to a 454 cubic inch V8, big block engine,
which gave it enough power under the hood to get the
biggest job done and having a good time doing it. This is going to
be a cool truck. I know, obviously, it's
not that cool as it sits. But once we do what
the customer wants-- OK. --and we put our spin on it,
I promise you, you're going to be fine with this. What the client wants is
they want to go aggressive on the appearance of the truck. They want gnarly
wheels and tires. OK, so even though
it's a two-wheel drive-- Yeah. --we could level it
out by taking it up. Absolutely. OK, well, being 3/4 ton,
at least with that many lugs, it has that look. Oh, yeah. All right, so I'm getting-- I'm getting that vibe. And he wants to
freshen up the interior. It looks worse than it is. The interior has not been
all butchered up over time. So much stuff usually
gets cut up over time. But it's all-- it's all-- Factory AC. That works. What are we going to
do for an engine in it? The client is looking
for a big block. OK. The best part
is the paint job. This is more paint than
it is anything else. The client's son, really, really
into a medieval mythology-- you know, dragons, knights,
the whole nine yards. Cool.
Cool. - OK?
- Cool. So he wants the whole paint
job to be adorned with dragons, and knights, and swords,
and the whole nine-- fire and everything. This is all Mike. As long as you are in
charge of the colors, I'll be really
comfortable with that. Absolutely. His artwork runwith. Yes. OK, fine. I promise there will
almost, definitely not be any lime green on this. Yes. What's our timeframe? Hoo. Honestly, there isn't one. Does Mike know
anything about this yet? Mike knows nothing. OK. In all honesty, I see it. I get it. I so totally understand it. And Mike will have a ball. This will be his Mona Lisa. This old pickup
truck, it might not be much to look at now. But let me tell you something--
the owner's got the right idea. We're going to go
medieval on this thing and make it a head turner. This project is going to rock. I want this thing to be so cool. Let's go. Let's make something
really cool and crazy. Done do. Yeah. [ROCK MUSIC] This 1973 GMC pickup truck,
man, it did not look like much at all when it got here. But the owner had big
plans for this baby. And let me tell you something. My team, we stepped up to the
plate and came out swinging. He wanted a medieval
themed, badass super truck. And we pulled this thing off. But that called for the
talents of my man, Horny Mike. This truck looks insane. I am so proud of this thing. But before we ship this
thing out to its owner, I won an outside pair
of eyes to look at it and give me the thumbs up. Now, Nick, who works for me
here in the airbrush department, has got a great friend who's
been doing it for years. His name is Gear. He's here to check it,
out lay eyes on it. If he says yes, this
baby is rolling. There's a reason
I have you here. But I want to know a
little bit more about you. What-- what-- what
all do you do? I've been a graffiti artist
for over 30 years, digital art since about maybe '95. And actually, you
could blame Nick. He's the guy you could
blame for get me back into automotive airbrushing. Nick has done amazing
stuff for me for 100 years. So the fact that, now, I get
to continue to work with Nick is a pleasure. And having you
here is a pleasure. And the reason I've got you
here, we've got a vehicle. And we're getting ready
to send it to the owner. Gotcha. The owner could
not be here with us. All right. And I've got a thing about-- I kind of want somebody to
see it before it gets sent. It's important to me that
I get a fresh set of eyes, an artist's set of eyes. Yeah. It's a 1973-- Nice. --GMC C20 pickup truck. Oh, cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A square body pickup. Yes, sir. Now, this was a
father-son truck project. The son, really huge into-- what would you say,
like, very medieval vibe? It's medieval. Dragons, the knight. Medieval vibe. Yes, it's an unusual vehicle. Anyways, Gear,f I think we've
pretty much laid it out. You ready to see this thing?
- We chopped it up enough, man. Let's see this thing, dude.
- Let's see it. OK.
All right. - Nice.
- Come up here. We're going to-- Ryan's gonna to bring it out. Ryan, my man, bring
out that truck! [ENGINE REVS] Oh! Oh, that thing
sounds mean, brother. Oh, sick. See it when comes out. Yeah! Wow. What? Damn. Take your time. [ENGINE REVS] What? Yeah. Sick. Yeah, yeah. When we got this
whole pickup, man, she was in really rough shape. So we blasted her down
to the bare metal, saved what we could, and
replaced everything else. Now, she's as tough as
she was back in 1973. The old small block
engine, ha, gone! She's sporting a brand-new
GM 454 big block, backed up with a TCI transmission
that's guaranteed to haul some serious
butt on the highway. Good old Bob went off
updating the interior, and then it was paint time. After the usual Horny
Mike shenanigans, he finally got down to work
and did what he does best. He and Ryan and Nick
went nuts on this thing. There's all sorts of
dragons, knights, wolves, crazy medieval stuff on
every inch of this truck. This may be one of the wildest
airbrush jobs we've ever done. And I gotta hand
it to Mike, man. He killed it. This is insane, guys. Like, I mean-- It's our work
all the way around. It's like all 360, man. It's insane. The characters, the way you
guys rendered everything out, I love that, you
know, old school, ruinic, pseudo-Celtic
style, man. It's very Renaissancesque. And the dragon,
fire, volcanic vomit throw-up that's coming out
over here, like, that's sick. Yeah. The whole thing, it's got
this sort of monochromatic feel with some hot spots in it. Yep. You've got the
cools in the back. You got all the warms
right up here in the front. I see a lot of push
and pull right here, where the backgrounds
very diffuse. So Danny, what they
basically said was-- Yeah. They made the
background blurry. That's purty. --so that the foreground
looked sharper and came at you a little bit more. I got it now, man. I got-- I need a roadmap,
but I've got this. With all this
artwork on here, I didn't want all
the beautiful blue to get completely covered up. And what I really love
about this particular color is it looks black at night. Yeah. And then, of course,
in the sunlight, you can see it's
reflecting off right now. It's, like, perfect, man. It's balanced. Check out the back. Yeah. There's special purpose
back here on the tailgate. Wow, damn. Yeah, you don't even
have describe it, man. I could just see from the
visuals here what's going on. No man needs to be an
island unto himself. No matter what,
you're not alone. Yeah. Keep going.
Check it out. This artwork doesn't stop. Damn. That's really poppin'. You know, here's the
thing about the truck. This truck is now, really,
a brand-new '73 GMC. I mean-- We did a full frame off. If you get underneath this
thing, the frame is staggering. Underneath is staggering. It's a rock solid,
magnificent truck. Let me show you inside. What? Wicked cool stitching. Wicked cool leather throughout. Modern, updated everything. Damn. She's got power
steering, power brakes. It's everything that you
would want in a nice new car. That's nice. Kudos on the
nostrils in the hood. That is insane. Look at this. That's cool. Let me tell you a little
something about that. Here we go. The nostrils are
supposed to be nostrils. On the actual nose. Nostril spot. Ryan decided, you know, let's
not put snouts on it, you know, where snouts should be. He decided put them on
the side of the hood. Nice. Because he said
it looked better, you know, for the hood scoop. And he's right. He's kind of made 'em,
like, side shooters. Unorthodox, but effective. Now, under the hood-- Whoa! Brand new. Dude, you could eat off of it. As it should be. We went with a GM,
high performance, crate engine, brand new, big
block Chevy 454 [INAUDIBLE].. Sick! I'm glad you dig it. Dude, beyond dig it. Well, let me drop this down. And let's take a
little step back. Let's not lose some fingers. [INAUDIBLE] So before this
gets shipped off to anybody, since
this truck is really all about the artwork, man-- Yeah, man. --I want to know honest
opinion about the vehicle. The artwork's ridiculous. Yes. It's badass. It goes above and beyond. So I would say, send it. Pow! It's got my stamp. Thank you. Artwork approved. Truck is delicious. Thank you, Gear. I say we load it. We make it rock. Pulled it off, man. Thank you. Excellent job. Yeah. And I'm stoked that Gear's
diggin on this truck. It's right in his wheelhouse. And that makes me happy. Now, the client trusted me. And I trusted Horny Mike. Sometimes not the best move. But in this case, it
worked out perfect. Gear's approval means
this truck ships now. Why don't we show you a few
things else we're working on. - Let's go check it out man.
- Get your eyes on it. Ryan, will you put
this baby back to bed? Gladly.
