Conan Goes To Trucking School - "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"

[Applause] thanks guys Andy what's going on nothing yeah but you're I met you're gonna talk to John Fogerty right yeah yeah he's gonna play and then he's going to come over here we'll talk to him a couple weeks off to summer and I'd like that you belong down to New Orleans but I if you knew what the hell yeah I got to find out we'll find out it sounds good a diagram or something you know we'll get him to draw it for you hey with an etch-a-sketch all right yeah well you mentioned time off you know you're gonna we actually have some time off coming up later in the summer we do yeah I I had some time off a couple days ago and so I decided to use it to try something a little different something I'd always been interested in but never tried before Andy I all my life wanted you know I'm interested in being a trucker you know and like I don't know that yeah I think anyone that watches the show looks at me and says that guy's a truck right anyway I took a camera crew along I had I had a couple of spare hours and well take a look at my little adventure don't get me wrong I really like what I do but sometimes I wonder am I missing out the open road no rules living life as it comes well I decided to find out that's why I'm here in East Rutherford New Jersey at the Jersey truck driving school I'm gonna see if I can cram as much of the trucker lifestyle into one day as possible actually it's a little less than a day I have victor/victoria tickets at 7 o'clock tonight so I'm gonna do this kind of fast let's go hey Bill how are you I want to go to meet you good to see you to see you to you you run this trucking school is that right or do you well I hope I don't know if you can help me out I do a television show but I'm curious about maybe becoming a trucker well would anybody train we've been doing it for a lot of years it might go a little faster for me because I have a I have a Ford Taurus 92 and as American passenger cars go it's it's pretty big young I don't see so good out of this eye and sometimes I just freak out is that a problem if you're blind you want out you cannot drive sometimes when I see the lines of the highway coming at me I suddenly imagine that their bullets shoot out I turn the wheel really hard and try and drive off the road is that a problem you asked about this how'd they get this truck in a cube someone wrote a song about your CB handle is that right that's correct who wrote it myself you wrote a few wrote a song absolutely you wrote a trucker song about yourself there you go do you mind if we hear it cuz I got a guitar [Music] his name is shiftin Willie let me tell you what he do to been shift when the tractor-trailer truck since early 62 word out on the super slab from all the super boys this truck is got the tall big bad Peters Oh five hundred cat out front and when he puts the pedal down cat don't drive the big rig aren't you we're gonna try to teach you okay well I love your confidence now what do you like to call it do you like to call it the big rig do you like to call it the heavy mama you like to call it the slab runner what are some names for trucks that you like to call it I just like to call it a tractor-trailer a lot of people call it a big rig or a little money to be here okay can we take this off the conscience do the driver it makes me feel a little less cool tell me about this wheel it's really nice it's the size of a large pizza yeah have you ever had students or truckers put a pizza directly over it and eat as they drive is that against the Reg you know that's that's we wouldn't we wouldn't do that no it's great I love that I can't stop I want to just play with the horn maybe the whole learning to drive thing was a waste of time if there were a smaller course in just the horn than just the horn yeah no wide-open road my friend I don't need a woman just a truck a big rig exactly you and me are going all the way to El Paso you know my favorite part is I got to say about the trucking experience is I like stepping off the big rig on the floor and turn and back off the steps if you jump out or you know jumping out is cool yeah but you can't do that at motor beer in the Trudy rules and regulations what I'm gonna government get off our backs damn it no one would give me any lip at a truck stop would they guy like me know with these guns you think it's ridiculous that I call these guns no that's what you want to call them this alright we're gonna take a long haul now we're gonna head upstate a little ways but first to make the whole thing seem more legitimate I wanted to actually be hauling a load so take a look at this bill six-pack of moosie non-alcoholic beer you all set for that that was good hey good buddy this is sunblock any Smokies out there what they call policeman and title to the metal is going fast and we're not doing that [Music] some of the trucker stuff here you got nodos you got vibrant I guess that comes in handy not a long haul I brought my own I didn't know I brought Flintstones chewables alright we just pulled up with the Malwa truck stop and I'm hungry when I gonna buy D ok come to the choices super salad salad yeah I Drive a big rig salad when some other staff have a salad when she came for the order she and I bonded but I gotta be moving on I can't stay in any one place too long oh wow look at that thank you I don't think C everett Koop is happy about me eating this so he had to haul from Texarkana to Atlanta in the movie Burt Reynolds is that the kind of thing that would happen in real life where a guy would come in here and bet you guys that you couldn't call something in 24 hour period from one city to another without getting caught about the cut no no that's that basically we look a little better now than we used to right uniforms the whole bit right put the sleeves back on you think well no I think you should just get rid of the shirt all together because I'm telling you want one look at that a little Flintstone its little that's the kid it's a that's both pebbles I'm sorry yeah that's for you uh-huh and I got I got a pebbles to list your health does taste bad does it you ever look down and see something crazy going on in the car slam this girl you got rid of Sam and she slowed up she had one day I said nope and I said no he knows to do the banner that's our way you're funny we gonna ride with you for a while it's okay well Belle thanks a lot I feel like I'm a trucker now okay cool been a pleasure nice menu that's a lot we'll see him about bill hold on a second Victor Victoria starts in 45 minutes I've got an extra ticket it's yours if you can get me to the city on time New York City in under now or never been home you're on let's roll [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
