air buddies treetops thanks for tuning in I've got a video for you today I thought we would take a side-by-side comparison look and the new leave value tour press versus the old lead classic tear press lct and just kind of show you some Sun not really a review not looking to do that so much but just kind of show you what you can expect and some of the differences I see are the guys the reason I'm able to make this video today is because Kenny over at Eagle Eye shooting YouTube channel also an author at the reloaders network he sent me this press he wanted me to build one of my powder stands for the for this value tour press I didn't have the press and I didn't have a way to get a pattern without buying it and he just up and volunteered to ship me one so he bought it mailed it to me and here it is that's why I've got it sitting here and here is the stand that I created to fit it and it's actually working out really good I'm putting it through its paces this is going to be nice in I'm gonna mail this to him and he's gonna have it for his own personal use so a little collaboration there from our new tribe over at the reloaders Network so before I get too far into this I want to apologize for the light coming through the window there it's just how it is I've got it set up there usually I come in the other position over there but so hopefully you'll be able to make it make out everything okay basically what we had here is we has gone through and updated their progressive press they came out with what they call a breach lock progressive press recently and the reason that's important is because it shares this base so probably one of the things that makes is cheaper for them to produce is I don't think there's a lot of unique components on this on this press I think you've seen some of the slinky - some of their other offerings this turret housing is from the lead classic turret press so like I say a lot of these things are similar and because this base is the same base they used on their brand new progressive press it has a few kind of oddities associated with it so the first thing you notice is there's some casting holes here here there's a little relief here those don't have anything to do with this press that's from the from its other incarnation that progressive press so the next thing you notice is that the RAM is slightly off-center and again that's that has to do with this DNA how it was how it's used on the progressive press so that shifts everything for in this turret application to the right from the LCP press you notice the linkage is off to the to the right a little bit the way it's mounted this is identical to two very progressive so only classic turret the servicing guy is going to be right about there but in this case obviously the surgeon guy is going to be off to the right because that'd be over the ramp so that's the distinction so my first observations with this were that this that there's better access to getting a case in and out on this press and there is on the LC t doesn't I mean I never had problem operating a CT but it if it does give you more of a straight on it's a little more visible now the downside to that is because everything's rotated your primary activity comes in quite a bit from the right-hand side and that is maybe it will awkward to some folks I didn't have any trouble with it I adapted to it really quick also the handle comes up they give you this nice ergonomic handle but the handle comes up and it really doesn't have a lot of room you kind of bump into that just a little bit some people might find that annoying but again that's just a symptom of using this other these other components to build this class now the next thing when I first saw this I really thought that this part here was was aluminum but it's not in fact when I read some of the information on this press on Amazon leading with Amazon might have been into Midway but some of their detailed description had said that this was constructed out of cast aluminum and cast steel when I actually could have magnet to it it was very little in fact the only aluminum is here in the turret and those have always been in them and the lever arms the primer levers everything else on this is steel everything steel steel steel so that's it's pretty good steel construction did we come over here we take a look at the classic turret press and you know the operation is very much the same but the layout is a little bit different again now you can see that this turret is Row 2 is is more this way and the the ram is directly in the middle so the servicing guy is directly in front of you now the other thing you notice is most your feeding is going to be done from the left hand side over here because this this post is sorted in a way so that's maybe an advantage for the value press I never any trouble operating like that it's just just changes the way you sit a little bit but this is this is a much more robust press I don't know if you need that much strength in the press but this sure has it if you look at the linkage down there you can see that these are heavy duty machine links I noticed there's no springiness to this at all when you come up against though the scoffs or the shell holder or anything like that the other press that is maybe a little bit of you know I don't know what you want to call it springing this machine is some of that as long as you get the full travel it doesn't make any difference but it may be different to people the way it feels while we're looking here take a look at the ram the ram on this press is an inch and an eighth in diameter the value press it is about 800,000 so around about 13 16 so it's smaller in diameter has obviously that's gonna give it less bearing surface inside the guiding portions here bring it over here so that you can take a look at the underneath side take a look under the hood here a little bit of the classic to oppress a couple things to note it guides the rim up and down holds it in place the contact on that is about three and a quarter inches on the other press it's only about two dimensions so there's a lot more a lot more of the mount is tension the RAM keeping its appearance further so that's that's a difference don't know if it makes any difference but it is a difference the primer feeder tube on this one comes right out of the bottom and I'll show you where that's got a little bit of a problem on the other one adjustment for the handle you have pretty much an infinite not infinite but you have every one of these little gear bits here gives you a chance to move to the next notch so you can really set this handle right where you want it and lastly let me show you this this base is machine now so the left sort of a backstop that you can slide this press up to the bench and you pick up your holes and it squares itself right to the bench the other price is not like that so it makes mounting a little interesting alright now we're back over here look at that we value to oppressive another hood and here's the here's the RAM you can see the RAM is quite a bit smaller in diameter I don't know if that makes the difference significant difference but it definitely needs a small ramp you can see that the area between here and here that supports the RAM the amount of material that the RAM has to ride through is about two inches so it's about it's about a third less than on the LI classic car price this linkage here is appears to be stamped metal it's heavy dude there's not really any plan that you could actually type these bolts to take up but if you need to but it isn't the same type of linkage that you see on that on the classic er price and that may that may actually account for a little bit more of the screen so that's something if you look like here you can see there's sort of a an indent there and that's where the handle can go I don't know why they would have that there maybe this is from a different application but in Oh actually it's probably for the other side this is probably the same they probably these two halves are the same here but anyway there's also one of those underneath where I had this mounted and so it really gives you basically one slot to mount it in not much adjustment there I suppose you can fudge it a little bit into some of these other start positions but the way it's relieved for the handle to support the handle it doesn't look like that's what they have intended okay now the one downside that I noticed now notice here that it doesn't have any stock backstop to you kind of help you set your depth how far you adjusted it so when you when you go to mount this this really just wants to rock back up it back in sideways on this this round part here the next thing you'll notice is this is the parameter to be able to record it's actually good one really easy I'm making it a little card anyway so you see how that hangs there instead of coming out at the bottom like the classic Terra price does there's a little slot here and they come out the the spent primers come out and they fall down there now here was the problem I had see I've got this little brace here and it's on it so here's the deal if you have the brace is there to support my table I've been billed over my bench I didn't build this initially for this purpose I adopted it so I need it a little more out here because it's big spring because I built it so I can clamp stuff to it for doing work now here's the next thing when you get I can't really what I need to do is Mount this whole thing back a little bit let me bring you up here and show you the next problem all right so you look right here you can see I'm this bolt is already pretty close to this edge and the press is mounted squarely so I don't really have a lot of room to slide back off because I'm going to lose anyway to attach this bolt now Lee recommends using their bench plate system to mount this and I haven't tried it maybe that solves the problem but I just want to make you aware if you have some sort of support out here or I've seen a lot of reloading benches where they're they have a board underneath like a 2x4 underneath the top so that they can actually support the [ __ ] I think it's a great idea but in this application that's going to be a little bit of an issue if you want to use that well I got to here just notice this handle you see how much material I have going out the bottom there that is to keep me from I had to drop it down otherwise the handle just wax this sucker right there so that was another issue anyway I assure you all this not to really knock on the press but just to say you know those are some some things that you should be prepared for if you're thinking about picking up this roast none of that stuff is an issue on a League classic Tara press ok one thing I thought was really cool was I took this 9 millimeter turret that was all set up on my lct press put it on here and I just I thought I'd just try it just saw the reload and it came out that the overall length was only 2.5 thousands off from what was in my note and that that could be just an adjustment I could be off that much anyway so I didn't even have to change the setup of these dies between the two processes that was kind of handy and that might be useful information to somebody I got a couple 9 millimeters here I'm just gonna go through it run these will go up in here sighs pick up a pile on this new brand new version of this panel here is awesome double mouth drops of powder there's two so anyway you see operations really nice and smooth on it I don't have a bad thing to say about it I do think it's a little odd you know if it was purpose design it's it's definitely more economical because they were able to reuse this base for this application one thing I didn't mention was the price here so there's two these two presses looking at the market right now this one can be had for about between 80 and 90 dollars and this one's about one hundred two hundred twenty dollars so like I said the classic taupe rest is still a more robust but I find nothing wrong with the value pressed it works fine I don't see any limiting factors to it it takes a little bit to get used to but it runs just fine yeah so anyway those are the basic differences a little bit on the mounting here that you want to be aware of going into it alright guys that's gonna be a wrap I really just wanted to you know kind of orient you if you're thinking about picking up one of these presses are going that way this kind of hopefully gives you a little bit of something that you'll know what to expect when you get there I think this is a great press and I just see people making a lot good animal in this press I have nothing bad to say about it little little strange ADIZ about how the how the press is made and I hopefully explain that if you're interested in the progressive press check out eagle eye shooting go to Kenny's channel he's done done a little Show and Tell on that that pressed as well so go check him out he just a subscribe button over there and let's get him to a thousand subscribers also don't forget to subscribe over here I appreciate our you guys I've gotten a lot of new subscribers hit the like button hit the bells you know click on the bell it would
