okay hi everyone we are about to begin we're gonna ask that everyone who is seated to the back of the church if possible can you move forward so that we fill in the front space if you're on the program please meet me um god um oh um um it'll be myself [Music] [Music] [Music] the lord is my light and my salvation whom shall i fear the lord is the strength of my life of whom shall i be afraid when the wicked even my enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh they stumbled and fell though one host should encamp against me my heart shall not fear the war should rise against me in this will i be confident one thing have i desired of the lord that will i seek after that i may dwell in the house of the lord all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the lord and to inquire in his temple for in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me he shall set me up upon a rock and now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me therefore will i offer his tabernacle sacrifices of joy i will sing yea i will sing praises unto the lord hear o lord when i cry with my voice have mercy also upon me and answer me when thou said seek my face my heart said unto thee thy faith lord will i seek i not thy face far from me put not thy servant away in anger though has been my help leave me not neither forsake me o god of my salvation when my father and my mother forsake me then the lord shall take me up teach me thy way o lord and lead me in a plain path because of my enemies deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies for false witnesses are risen up against me and such as breathe our cruelty i had fainted unless i had believed to see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living wait on the lord be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart wait i say on the lord greetings and thank you all for joining us to celebrate the life of clarissa eunice stevenson otherwise known as goody or aunty goody and most affectionately tantygoody as bible believing christians we know this day would come but that knowledge does not prepare us for the void that is left with her passing therefore today we honor her memory as we know best in a memorial service for god's child we look forward to the day when the trumpet of the lord shall sound and the dead in christ shall rise and we shall have a grand reunion the family may remain seated throughout the proceedings if you wish to stand you may do so as well and at this time we will now have the opening hymn by sister laverne everyone this is our opening prayer and our prayer of consolation let us bow our heads eternal father god of love creator of this universe we your children come before you dear lord at this time this time of bereavement this time of sorrow but we are comforted in your words dear lord that weepin will endure for the night but joy will come in the morning lord help us dear lord to prepare our hearts and our minds to receive you comfort the hearts of all those who mourn at this time but we may look forward to that blessed hope of your soon return wherein we can all meet and fellowship once again on the shores the sea of galilee dear lord and we and be reunited with our loved ones and with you comfort our hearts dear god and may we receive you as our personal savior from sin this i do ask not in any other name but in the name of our lord and savior jesus christ with thanksgiving amen we'll now have a special song from her daughter [Music] and her niece simone canteen and laverne samuel you this uh was a song that my mom truly enjoyed when while she was in the hospital she taught me this song when uh when i was a child and we started singing it for her and she truly enjoyed it even when she was non-responsive somewhat that she um she always nodded ahead and responded to the words so we're gonna attempt to sing it now never was anyone like him [Music] never will one be the [Music] [Music] we wash worship i know the power of his name he came special delivery right up in love bound by a promise sealed by [Music] you knew where he was going by the lord on his face [Music] where he went love was there also where he was love showed the way those who saw knew he was holy and i see what they saw to this very day he came special deliveries [Music] a promise sealed by a dove and filled with the spirit carried by grace you knew where he was going by the lord his [Music] when i'm cold i will go gladly [Music] i will know grieve for the past [Music] for i know where i will be going and i will be going to see him at last and going special [Music] [Music] sealed by a dumb and filled with the spirit carried by grace you know his face [Music] we'll now have the scripture reading by elder frederick canteen who is her son-in-law good morning church scripture text will come from first corinthians verse 15. first corinthians verse 15. i'm sorry first corinthians 15th chapter verse 51-55 behold i show you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed in a moment a twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and shall be changed for this corruptible this is corruptible must be put into immortality so when this corruptable shall be shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall be put on immortality then shall be thought to pass saying that is written death is swallowed up in victory o death where is thy staying o grave is thy victory may lord and listen to the reading of the holy scripture thank you it's now time for the eulogy and the person presenting the eulogy today is none other than her daughter simone canty [Music] my mother clarissa unice stevenson was born on the 25th of october 1943 and a little hut on her parents farm nestled under the shadow of one of the 35 mountains in the then small british colony of saint vincent and the grenadines her parents lenin kasich charles and mary charles named her clarissa meaning bright and clear and unicy meaning good victory despite some setbacks she was clear that she would overcome obstacles in her way and be victorious my mother's pet name is goody because she was a good baby the name suited her for she was goodness personified people in her village of bible instant vincent where she grew up and lived knew her as goody all her nieces and nephews and younger cousins refer to her fondly as auntie goody or ted goody my mother was kind caring and selfless three examples will suffice number one when my mother was only 17 years old her parents went to england to make a better life for the family she was left in charge of five sisters and one brother despite the difficulties of raising five teenagers some not that much younger than her she never complained she had marriage proposals but from upstanding young men but in her church but turned them down because of her commitment to her siblings years later when her siblings had flown the nest she finally accepted a marriage proposal when i came along things were difficult financially but i wanted for nothing she went without so that i could have she would often say sharon you're a young girl and you should have the things young girls should have i'm already old as long as i was happy she was when my grandmother her mother had a stroke that's the third example she provided personal care for her for four years without complaint that was my mother even when gratitude or appreciation was not always forthcoming from those she helped she never had a bad word to say about them she loved and served unconditionally my mother had a bad leg for most of her youth which prevented her from completing her formal education she was not as tutored as her siblings but she was supremely intelligent possessing wisdom that was both intuitive and discursive people who knew my mother respected and loved her because she made loving her easy she had a tough exterior but her kindness and selfishness showed through in the end my mother was a private person and knew how to keep a secret having a private conversation with her was like making a confession to a priest never repeated she was not interesting in god in gossip or hearsays from an early age she taught me that god like charasterist characteristic were attainable if selfishness was illuminated she traveled wildly and quickly learned new ways of doing things and took the best from different cultures my mom was a walking navigational navigation system years of traveling to new countries with no navigation device uh at the time helped to develop a keen sense of direction she was a quick learner and quickly embraced new technology mom was a housewife who wore many hats she was a loving faithful wife supportive mother a farmer seamstress and caretaker there was nothing that needed doing she didn't attempt she was a church deaconess and prior to and during the making of communion bread she prepared herself as if attended a special function i remember her humming hymns i knew better not to enter the kitchen at the time or doing so was the equivalent of stepping on holy ground and the end result would not have been very favorable a favorable outcome for me no project was too remarkable to execute my mother did not rise to the heist of academic success achieved fame on stardom but she lived as god wanted her to she is a living example of what real life is all about dedicating her life to service and to god who gave her that life in the first place when mom was diagnosed with kidney disease in svg each day for four months in spg she vomited until she was able to she vomited every day until she was able to get professional help upon arriving to the u.s her mental strength was unfailing where she was physically lacking sheer willpower governed at times i felt as if my prayers were not being answered that was when god revealed to me that he already had done so you see he preserved my mom so we could be reunited one last time he granted her comfort during her time of illness and gave me the opportunity to care for her so god did answer my prayer the day before she passed [Music] she emphasized how tired she was i now understand the context of the tiredness she was referring to my mother was not a saint none of us is but i know this she did the best she could and all those privileged to know her became enriched by her experience she had a faith that was strong strong and solid she practiced what she preached i wanna i wrote this poem for my mom she really enjoyed my poems no matter how silly they were and i wanna dedicate this to her when your body refuses to cooperate with your resilient mind when you've tried natural unconventional medicines yet to a hospital room you find yourself confined when all you have prevailing are songs in your heart and a promise of a better tomorrow realizing loved ones may moan your future presence and contending with emptiness and sorrow when your healthy skin loses its luster and your youthful physique grows old when your black hair turns gray and your warm body becomes cold embracing the promise of a resurrection one day finally welcoming sweet rest check mark off your 77 year list well done you have passed all your tests i want to say thank you to my family who gave incredible support throughout a new help to plan this service would not have been possibly worn out for them so thank you i want to also thank everyone also instant vincent when i wasn't present to assisted mom in my absence thank you all at this time pay close attention to the monitors and those watching online keep watching we'll have some video tributes to auntie goody or otherwise [Music] themselves [Music] [Music] to do that none of my sisters is [Music] [Music] from your sunglasses not only because he was so nice and welcoming to me when i told him but she [Music] went to the united kingdom [Music] earlier [Music] now sometimes [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] in my last conversation [Music] lying under he is is [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] uh [Music] i just [Music] to [Music] um i will always remember how she danced with her eyes her positive outlet in life and her ability to light up any room she committed her life to god and i know that when that fatal day comes she will be in heaven with her creator i will carry her memory with me each [Music] one of the kindest [Music] today is not the best of opportunities or occasions that people like to meet for once included our meeting we wish would be one of joy happiness greeting to see loved ones and to enjoy their company but today's have to say we have to meet for one critical reason which we never hoped for which we never wish for as we need to say goodbye to our auntie [Music] from the heart of my family we would like to extend our deepest sympathy and our condolences to the remaining family especially in china grab a community where there's a lot of children as kids ultimately provide that security of a very good neighbor once we come to reliance one who is always generous to us and for that we will immensely proud and happy to have her as a neighbor as a sister and one who we can rely on for that maternal candidates we live in a world in which things do happen [Music] [Music] for me personally a lot of those spokes he was one of those persons that i have to visit 2019 was the large site november of 2019 was the last time i spoke to she was in very good spirits i was very glad to see her for going back to bible was one of those things that you mean although i do never wanted to see yes as [Music] and that's the reason why is is [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] is [Music] brothers and sisters greetings from the castle elders and members of the bible seventh-day adventist church [Music] church and on my family's behalf i extend heart health from the community services department of our church to sharon and her family as well as her extended family and friends on the passing of her dear mom sister larissa stevenson death is an inevitable part of life for which we must all be defamed sister stevenson was prepared she expressed to me on several occasions that her greatest desire was to see jesus and she was making a desperate effort to live for him i believe her wishes would grant him as a member of the community services group she served faithfully and well whenever a meeting was called she would be the first one to be [Music] and shopping in our community sister paris stevenson was a very humble person she was disciplined and confidential she was very generous too she loved to share from whatever liquor she had with a loving heart i believe that that is the reason why she got the name indeed [Music] foreign [Music] sisters [Music] [Music] [Music] she also mentioned several times my sister came here who used to visit her one hour even when her normal disease she also spoke and and talk about so many things [Music] [Music] sisters but then so i am saying to the family take jesus amen um at this time we will open the floor for anyone in the congregation who would like to add to the tributes we do ask that you limit your tribute to about a minute because in the interest of time and also anyone who would like to give a tribute please come to my right we have an available mic and we would also like if someone is using it the rest could sit on the pew so that we know who would like to give a tribute and not overlook anyone so i wrote my tribute in a form of a letter it goes dare tan to goody i wasn't there in your last hours for that i apologize but my thoughts was on you and your thoughts was also on me your boy you have been there from the beginning of my life being in the hospital when i was born and almost every step of my childhood you helped groom the man i am today showing me the importance of family whenever we spoke you made me laugh i remember you used to say my boy are you behaving remember you're not too big for tantigoody to spank you you've always made sure i am still on the right path i love you and thank you for all you have done until we meet again amen good afternoon everyone um i'm elder ruth shaw and on behalf of the robinson shaw family and the robinson family is very big and um we just want to pour out our love on each and every one of you especially simone and her family we just want to thank god for sustaining auntie as i call her for this lent of time you know i was saying to someone that anyone over the age of 70 is living on grace and thank god god has blessed her to live on grace may we live the life that counts that when when our time come good things can be said about us but most importantly god will receive us into his eternal kingdom may we await that blessed day and may god bless each and every one of us you are never alone god is with you and we are here also to support you during this time i'm here on behalf of cwc she was not a member here but she visited so regularly that we took her in as a member she was very pleasant whenever she walked in with aunt eda she would be smiling and it was a pleasure to see her sitting there and she was so accommodating she was never there was never a time when i saw her that she looked sad and it's not very often that um visitors you know especially regular ones come to church where they're always so pleasant because sometimes things may go wrong with them but she was always very pleasant and so on behalf of the church i just want to say to simone that we truly truly miss her and we will continue to pray for you and your family so that you will continue to come to us and we'll reach her grandson [Music] hello hello it's joshua canteen and it's me god looked around his garden and found an empty space then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face then he wrapped his arms around you and lifted you to rest god's god and must be beautiful he only takes the best i will miss my grandma [Applause] and at this time we will have our second scripture reading by gabriella father's house are many mansions if it were not so i would have told you i go to prepare a place for you and if i go and prepare a place for you i will come again and receive you to myself that where i am there you may be also amen may god of his blessings upon his holy word so our speaker for today is no stranger the sermon today will be given by god's servant elder ernesto samuel is the nephew of clarissa unissi stevenson he diligently studied god's word and do the lord's bidding over the years the bible says blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted please give him your undivided attention as god sends us some comforting words through his men's servant however before he takes the sage we will all sing 6 32 in memory of our dear sister tan goody or clarissa unicy stevenson so is [Music] is [Music] until then [Music] if [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] oh [Music] my friends family members [Music] can you hear me okay now i would like my hands to be free um family members friends families this is a tough time for us as you can see we're very close niche family very very close and it appears that we um the devil is trying to attack us the things that are there is to you when it comes to the end of time the devil is to use that to get to you and for us it's the family within the last four to five weeks this is the second post in the family that we have buried but we are here and i want to say thanks to all the family members who show up today i can tell you in her home church in bible they are listening so i say hello to my brothers and sisters that the bible saved the adventist church for those in england i said hello nieces and and grandnieces and family and friends who were there and in asia her brother that you heard spoke on the first tribute pastor audrey charles and his wife in japan my friends in india my friends throughout the caribbean basin from trinidad to the bahamas in the north to guyana in the south she was well loved and they're all chiming in this evening to honor the celebration of my dear aunt my aunt was no ordinary lady she was fantastic she was fantastic [Music] and as i look and see the next generation coming along right i am happy that we have role models ahead of us you know i think was eric erickson the famous child psychology who said that if parents have enough integrity to die children will have enough to live and she has given us that and she will always say to me my nephew i am ready i am packed and ready she was ready every so often we will pray while she was in the hospital and we will talk and she said don't worry i am ready we can be so lucky because she knew she was ready when she was coming to the states a couple of months ago she said to me your dad cried my dad who just passed away see your dad cried he came to her and said tantigori let's hug because they both knew this could be the last time and it was the last time here is the reality god allows his people to know when they're about to go that's something that we need to be comforted about of all her nieces and nephews i think i'm the one who provoked her the most and i think i'm the one who gave her the most jokes i can tell you that we had encounters many many times i knew her from since i was born she and my mother were like twins they stayed together all the time on sabbath afternoon she will bake cake and because we live near the church and people come to the house every saturday for for lunch she will say take this to your mom and she'll give me a tiny piece of cake to taste just a tiny piece this went on for a while and and for me i'm choosing to um to remember and celebrate her life and i wish you do the same too and one day i'm taking the this big cake back to my mom and i said every friday she gives me a little piece of cake and a spirit said to me a spirit i didn't say this spirit a spirit said to me why not eat the big cake so i went down by the beach and i ate the big cake sliced by slice until like the cake was finished now when the cake was finished reality started sinking in what am i going to tell my mother what am i going to tell them tomorrow when sabbath day comes and there is no dessert so i decided to go and say mom anthony said the cake going to come out good right sabot meal cup is being served and i can see her pinky where's the cake and my mom said what cake why does the cake didn't come out good she looked at me what happened to the cake by then i know it was time to leave right but she got the last laugh there was a lady in the village who was a little mentally challenged and handicapped she went to that lady and said you want a boyfriend and she said no belter is your boyfriend and she gave me a nickname up to this day i don't like the name she still calls me that name every time we talk and i'm not going to tell you guys okay but that was my aunt right we were one she was respected in the community and she was a lady okay she was a lady when she walked into the community the guys on the streets who are gambling and talking will stop because she's coming by she commanded respect and that to me was outstanding that to me was outstanding and we were very close family and we'll continue to be a very close family we are third generation adventist she is second generation adventist she was my grandmother was the first one who brought everybody into the church and from this generation right you have over 100 members of the assembly adventist church throughout the years that to me is impact that to me is wonderful whoever i am today is because of this church and for that i am grateful you know um i have an uncle who you saw spoke of a bit there he is a theologian and many ministers will say your uncle taught me but what they didn't realize is that my grandmother accepted this message years ago and ensure that we stayed in the church we stayed in the church so today i'm here to give a few words of comfort and my aunt is passed she was packed and ready to go this is for us okay she awaits when christ comes and the hope is that when christ comes like as david said she will awake in his likeness she will awake in his likeness so for today i like us to go through a few bible stories right i like bible stories do you all right so let us pray almighty god our father we thank you for your grace and your mercies there father it's a tough time but sometimes the preacher is asked to provide comfort but today the preacher needs comforting so therefore i ask my friends who are present here today who are listening on social media to pray for the preacher as he goes through this because in times like these we need a savior in times like these we need your spirit bless us and keep us we pray for christ sakes amen amen so let's talk about elisha second kings chapter 4 verses 8 to 37. when you go home you can read the story but i'm going to give you the highlights of the story second kings chapter 4 verses 8 to 37. elisha is a prophet of god if you remember he took over from elijah every so often elijah passes to shunam a village in israel right so like our ministers they go from place to place but in those days the prophet will go from dan to boshiba he covers israel he's god's spokesman he's god's minister and every time he passes to shun him he will stop by this lady and she will give him some food the bible says a woman never gave her name but she said she was a wealthy woman a woman of influence and one meal led to another meal and elisha and geheza and my my jewish friends say they can say hey it means the same thing geheza is elijah's servant and every time they pass through the sonama it will say lesson have a meal have something to eat do you know how refreshing it is when you're traveling and when you're on the on the path as a missionary where someone will give you something to eat some water to drink that's what the people of god do so when he passed through you heard the tribute saying that my aunt will leave food outside for people when they're passing up the village to say miss charles i'm taking this he said take it that watch she did that's what she did so the shuna might one day after so many trips from elisha she said to her husband she said listen i perceive that this is a holy man now listen to the wife i perceive that this is a holy man that didn't come from her husband that came from her right then she went to your husband and said listen he comes through so often let us build him a room how many of us do that today let us build this man a room this holy man and she gave instructions how this room should be built put a bed put a table put a chair put a basin you're talking about marriott platinum this was married platinum in its day when you're taking care of god's people do the best you can for them that's what the lord requires of us give your best to the master so it's one thing to make an idea but she executed the plan and in due time the room was ready so when elisha passed through again guess what he ate his food he drank his water and he's saying to get he said well let's get going so not so fast come let me show you something and elisha went in and said she said this is for you when you come through shunam you don't have to go and sleep outside you don't have to go and beg a lodging you don't have to go under the tree this is your room and elisha is like this is all for me and she said yeah what a lady what a lady in subsequent times elisha began to feel you know i have to do something for this lady and he said to gehazer what can we do for this lady so he called the ladies they called his sonamite he said do you want me to talk to the king about something for you because elijah had credibility she said no i dwell with my own people she was not one for asking for favors right she was a humble lady then she said you want to talk to the army for you she goes no i don't want that either she gave everything that she wanted for nothing in return this to me was outstanding so one day gahesa said you know something she has no children elijah said really she has no children and he said call the woman and when elijah when she came elijah said to her you have no children she goes no my lord no no and elijah said to her next year around this time you will have a son and she said what are you talking about have a son have you seen my husband he is old elijah probably said to her have you seen my god he's all-powerful have you seen my god he's got the exousia he's got the executive power he can do anything right my god can do everything i'm here to tell us today that our god can do everything for us yes we are distressed yes we are cast down but guess what we are not broken we are not crushed as paul said in 2nd corinthians 4 7 we've got this treasure an earthly vessel in us which is jesus christ will carry us through yes we will moan yes we will cry but we will rise again we will rise again have you seen my god my god can do everything even give your son he said break when the old man was told i can imagine she going to the old man and said listen we're going to have a son and he said really how he said listen you better go and take a shower we're going to have a son and as always the lord's word does not return void it always comes true the bible is consistent if the lord said this is going to happen you can be guaranteed this will happen a boy was born now a son means inheritance a son means survival for the family can you imagine the birthday party when that boy was born it was great great celebration her friends were saying at last she has a child not just a child she has a son and they were all in jubilation and the boy began to grow and grow and grow and then one day he went out into the farm with his father and as the devil would like to do sometimes he attacks us where we are more vulnerable he said my head my head my head my head hurts and the father being smart said take him to his mother take him to his mother right because mom knows best right and she put the boy on her lap and by noon time the boy died she maintained that she built for the prophet not in his own bed but on the prophet's bed see this lady had a connection with god so when there's a problem she goes back to god she goes back to god and then she said to your husband get me my chariot and get me the best rider and she said husband said where are you going at this time she has not told her husband that the boy is dead because he doesn't have her faith and she said to the young man who's driving the charity celestia i want you to really take this at full speed and don't slow down for any reason not even for me and husband said where are you going she goes i'm going to see the man of god and he said to her is not the sabbath is not the new moon which means that she was consistent to go and see the prophet at various times she went to church regularly not because she has a problem sometimes we contact the pastors and the elders and say listen pray for me but we haven't been to church for a while we don't study a quarterly in our bible but guess what we want to go and say pastor i am having a problem but this lady continuously and consistently went to see the prophet because her husband said it's not the sabbath which means she normally goes to see the prophet on the sabbath it's not the new moon which means on fridays and feast days she goes i'm going to see the man of god when we are troubled go to god don't go to the psychic person don't go to a neighbor and tell your problems who can't help you don't go to someone with with little faith will bring you down right go to god seek the lord with all your heart and then she made the famous words which is the title of this little sermonette it shall be well her son is dead she knows that her husband is worried about the little boy and where she is going and she turned to the husband and said it shall i know friends and neighbors are saying what about the boy and she always said it's okay it shall be well she passes through hey i heard the sun pass no no no no it shall be well she has the fate she had the fate and as she is going to montgomery to see the prophet the lord sometimes will keep things back at the right time and the original virgin says elisha is having you know elijah is is relaxing this this one on the evening the afternoon he's there he's just relaxing and he sees a chariot and he sees the dust and he recognized who is coming and he says to gehesia yonder comes to shunamite he says she is riding really really fast something is wrong he said to her go and ask her are you okay and now look at the order are you okay you must put on your mask first before you help anyone else when you travel on the airplane you must put on your mass first right you've got to make things right with your soul force before you can help someone else's soul that's the fact he said he is the answer three question are you okay is your husband okay is the child okay then shall a man leave his mother and father and cleave on to his wife the family unit was always there wenger here's a god there he said to her are you okay is your husband okay is the child okay she will not accept a substitute she wants to see the man of god when someone tries to give you cheap comfort don't stop there reject it and go straight to god she will not accept jesus intervention she goes i came to see the man of god i am going to see the man of god and she went on to see the man of god and she said let's see she threw herself at his feet and said listen what have you done to me the boy is dead and elijah said really say gehazer take my staff because if you remember elijah's staff had power because god was with elisha take my staff and go late on the child and she said ah jesus can go but you are coming with me sometimes you have to wrestle with the lord just like jacob i'm not going to go she said until you go with me because i know you're a man of god i know who you are i don't know i know you so you going to come with me because i know that you have the power from god to do anything my god can do everything for us today so you elevate us and one of these days sharon simone frederick joshua friends family brothers and sisters we will rise again and rejoice we will rejoice because the lord is with us and elisha had to go back with her back to her house because she insisted sometimes when they get on your knees do not do not get up until you know the lord has
