ring the official ring who told you who would have been the professional that was like yeah you should probably have the ring for this shoe but yeah both look at that just just precious cargo just precious cargo this is very shiny you know what it's it's got a it's got a bling to it it's got a bling it's got a real kind of million dollar title vibe yeah that's the what so that's the way I try to think of it and shockingly even though I thought it would be condescending for people to kiss it more people kiss it then reject the kiss so it's like whatever that's the story of my life when I was putting paper bags on people yeah okay yeah sure all right it's supposed to be insulting no I want to oh can I have this honor then oh we almost need a drumroll but we don't we have no that's not right it wasn't good it wasn't good here you go man it's in your mind that's the real one I don't want to do people know there's there's actually two rings that is like movie magic Oh movie magic because you can't be walking around with the one that cost thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars around Ian Ricki Bonnie because it would be like telling him there's two Hogwarts Express at Universal Studios in Orlando he would do his two but there's only one okay do you in here in here there's Ohioan so yeah no just don't just don't let Ian know we're good do you get nervous before your matches I get nervous before this interview I get nervous before my matches I get nervous before walking into a building I get nervous before sitting down for autographs I I feel like I'm in a constant state of nervous I ingest way too much caffeine which only amplifies when you're nervous you did walk up here holding a monster energy drink yes hidden so well on the floor yeah I am it's such a fun time for me personally that I that's what makes me nervous I'm always nervous about wrestling in competing and performing but the part that makes me nervous is right now things are so good yeah and any minute now any minute it could be over you know but it doesn't seem like it's not it's not what's happening it's just getting bigger and snowballing and these these Florida shows are so important to us they lead into the Texas shows which are so important to us and it's just becoming the schedules was becoming more arduous but the fun is it's never been like this before but you're at the top of the mountain right now you're the champ that feels good he's the champ is here Kenny's a champ too well actually I did a tweet for uh for just a posting the you know for advertising the shows and it was like thank God they got the new 280 limit because I can write IWGP junior champ IWGP united states champ six-man tag team champions the world have you I can write all that now and I was pretty I was pretty proud when I saw it all kind of on paper they're like wow this is a cool group you know well congratulations so if life's really good right now how much better is it now versus say a year ago well I mean I anticipated I was really confident when when I left WWE is confident that I would have a good time I was confident that I could wrestle differently than perhaps people saw me in the last few years with WWE but I definitely wasn't prepared for this level of everything this level of fan interaction this level of financial you know residuals coming from these shows and this level of just love I should have known when it comes to like the bullet club the bullet club is one of those groups that people oh well you know they keep adding members or you know what it's gonna water down eventually for whatever reason it's growing it's sprouting and there's you know like I'm just glad and very lucky to be part of it I've been saying this for a while this is the best time to be a wrestling fan and I'm sure it's the best time to be a wrestler too and it's it's symbiotic like that Jericho you know his face shown up in Osaka and to be coming to wrestle Kingdom those type of moves they don't they didn't happen in the early 2000s they didn't really happen after the Attitude Era and now all sudden the term independent contractor really means independent contractor and that's cool where it's not the brand that defines you it's you that defines the brand and that's something I'm proud of that of just wrestling in general wrestlers in general and the fans being so accepting there's not this hard feeling about watching other products so watch whatever their favorites go and that's a good thing so you say financially you're better off now or do you have more opportunities now that you're an independent contractor I I just had the absolute best luck in the world in terms of meeting the young bucks and they might look like wild little rock stars who are irresponsible but their business geniuses and they set up the deal with Hot Topic they're in an gonna be the first seven figure downside characters that New Japan Pro Wrestling has I'm Matt's real excited about his grotto and waterslide and this that's the one thing I can tell all my friends who ask me all the time from other locker rooms hey is it money wise and money for wrestling it's yeah the best way to put it it's better this is it's currently the best it's ever been for me so yes I didn't want to be tacky but it's very exciting yeah is there a trade-off though cuz you've got a lot of Fame in WWE and you've got the recognition from WWE fans all over the world and here you've got the freedom to have the matches you want to have I think the thing that WWE has that's so special is they have WrestleMania and WrestleMania is the the biggest party in all of wrestling it's the biggest event all the companies surround WrestleMania they piggyback off of WrestleMania that is something that's only WWE other than that I think wrestling in terms of match quality in terms of fan interaction that's the thing I like about ROH - mou-chan and that's that was the deciding factor for me when I was bouncing around you know free-agent everywhere is the way ROH treats his fans you'll see tonight we do the meet-and-greet and the meet-and-greet if it goes too long we'll come back out and do another meet and greet and it's every fan who comes the end that's the consumer you know nobody's a mark here they're they're either a fan or a friend if that makes any sense and that that's why I like this place the most and so to see other guys and be part of this group and do it it's just awesome how then is this line between what we can actually call you is it just Cody you don't have a last name Cody Rhodes all the can okay now I just played very introduction I was like I don't know it's alright I do some radio interviews where they go it's just Cody now and I usually click right away and then wait from the callback it's it's just I play it safe when it comes to television because it is WWE's IP people super confused all the time like oh well that's not your real name it is literally my legal name like on my ID my name hasn't been Cody Ronald since I was 17 then what's the problem then it's theirs and I don't want to but it's legally yours at no point would I ever want to go into a courtroom with a company that I have love and admiration for I met my wife there I got my start there that a house that built me if they want that last name they can give it to somebody in NXT and it's not it's not gonna make any difference no one here tonight knows oh they didn't say his last name he's not he's not Dusty's kid so it doesn't bother me and there's something cool about having a single name something cool and I don't know like cher Madonna not as over as any of those people but yeah it's about it you know talking about your dad what's the best advice that he gave you in the fit for the business he gave me a lot I mean every day was him was kind of like a motivational chitchat because that's how he spoke he spoke in that almost like a preacher whenever you talk to him there's always something I think the thing that inspired like that he said that always stuck stuck with me was maximize your minutes and I don't know there's so many things he said but when you say maximize her minutes it was because at the time at WWE wasn't getting a lot of airtime I wasn't always you know the one with his hand raised at the end and he believed it didn't matter you could still do something I made somebody go oh I really like that guy or you know little kids that really like to start us I think about that a lot because I have the opportunity to have a lot of minutes when it comes to ring of honor and I think about well now that you got them don't blow it you know what I'm saying don't you you told the world I'm better than you saw go show them otherwise you have no one to blame but yourself and I would have no one to blame but myself and that's I think about that a lot here's voice in my head in every match maximize your minutes hit your finish just the little things he always always would say don't chew when fake gum because I was notorious for pretending I had just little stuff he's always with me what about from your brother what's the best advice from him pay your taxes I love I love Dustin in wrestling makes us more brothers than we are I mean we're brothers well he's 16 years older and we didn't know each other at all and then all sudden we were thrust into this tag together and I was super proud that we were able to tag as long as we did because brothers aren't supposed to we really should just hate each other in terms of your family you know like you don't want to always be with your family you know and young bucks do it fine the Hardys doing fun young bucks to do it fine I am right there look I can show them I think I just was happy I got a chance to be around us and I like watching him his career continued you know as he gets older and he's he almost is like he's getting younger so he's happy for that time well I think he's gonna be a future hall-of-famer maybe you'll be the one inducting it yeah I bet your ass if he doesn't ask me to induct him he if he asked Dakota his daughter that makes total sense if he asked Cain that also makes total sense but other if he doesn't ask those two he has no one else to call but me and I am ready I'm ready for it I got a whole speech I got a lined up all right well you got to
