Clockwork Colony | Rimworld: Generations #15

today's episode of remote will be slightly different because i'm currently at war with sweden i needed a new desk so i did what anybody does when they need cheap disposable furniture i wanted the official website for the nation of sweden and i ordered their biggest longest widest desk and even that was way too small so i don't have a desk right now my pc is on a bunch of drawers and i'm deskless until two days so ah it's gonna be very hard to edit this video let alone record it so i'll do what i can the video is like that's why you can blame the nation of sweden rim rooms and other people who aren't the nation of sweden welcome to rimworld featuring your good friend ohm and his many other friends inc including uh not strupress i can tell you that much poor poor sweet strippers now someone did point out that every time we attempted to restore her it might not have succeeded with the full resurrection but it did restore a percentage of her body she went from 50 to 40 for example so we could just keep trying it the problem to that of course is that we are resurrecting and killing the same colonists over and over and people generally don't like that but there is a chance there is a chance we could bring back stroopers so i hate to say i think i've got to give it another go and we'll see how much our body restores but we don't need to restore it to 100 it might just be the case that we only have to restore to say 20 10 she won't be missing a few limbs but she'll be alive she'll be alive writhing in pain screaming in agony but she will be alive now the one thing i wanted to do yesterday was an alternate approach to starting the industrial era i wanted to try all of the the kind of weaker industrial technologies to kind of slowly transition from medieval to industrial rather than going straight for geothermal generators and big old battery packs and things like that they could be kind of more very suddenly advanced stuff relative to where we were now a lot of people suggested testing out the mod clockwork and steam which is exactly what i was looking for really a much lower technology but still industrial era tech to help kickstart things a little bit it has some really really cool stuff like mechanical exoskeletons clockwork-powered exoskeletons i thought to myself that the only problem with it was we're already moving into the industrial era it might already be a little bit too late and the chance of the research showing up it's quite slim and then i checked the research tab and i realized nope it is uh every single one of it is uh clockwork and steam and from just a brief look at it here on the research menu this one is is perfect it's exactly what i was looking for we've got all the early industrialization stuff circular saws clot work exoskeletons different types of copper an alloy furnace another different type of alloy furnace there pipe organ for royalty so you can build one of those as opposed to a half or whatever else this was also really cool as well the alchemy this i thought bridged the gap really nicely from the we don't really know what we're doing medieval medicine but it kind of works medieval medicine to actual scientific medicine mixing specific plants to get specific effects it also coincidentally really ties in nicely to what we've already got going on requires glass work and methodical research from the from you know a completely separate mod so it fits perfectly let's go for then so this one unlocks the lens cutting and steam power that sounds perfect for what we want and of course they've thrown in some fancy steampunk stuff for good measure like the the masquerade mask 15 social impact and 10 psychic sensitivity om you shall go to the ball who needs flak armor another era appropriate gear when you can go tick tock [ __ ] air balloons what oh my god that's incredible or we go for steam power steam boiler steam collector steam pipe steam forge diving helmet um oxygen supply helps please against toxic materials oh that's really good my god it that would be kind of horrifying a whole faction of diving helmet-wearing people oh this is too difficult to decide what is that operating theater notes table carbolic acid sprayer oh that's nice let's go for air balloons you know i have to ohm surveys his domain from up high okay we've got enough side focus i'll support stroopers i'm so sorry to be doing this to you okay 43 missing body parts here we go good luck let alone you know what your magic stick is up there it wouldn't really help though because it guarantees that you go into psychic overload well immediately he died again 56 now more of her body's missing she was rotten this time though so i wonder if that has an effect um hmm i don't know that we could commit to this idea she has just lost more body parts trying to do it oh every time every time home goes into psychic shock it's another bloody raid ah okay well this one's easy though this is just second then i may have gotten killed let's go and get you an actual weapon then it's got quite a long cooldown so that'd be very good if you're aiming for one particular enemy it looks like there might be trouble say somebody with a rocket launcher oh a couple of them are on fire it's an extinguishable fire too right so we took out three people with that i wonder if i wonder if they walked over the gun or the flame and took extra damage from it there's another one on fire wait what another one he killed five in one hit what's incredible i don't think we're gonna get anyone else with that come on they were trying it there did you see it well i think they've got a catapult oh yeah they do uh okay okay let's push up here we could go inside this building that they've now conveniently turned into a kill zone that's quite that's quite kind of them let's go through here and then let's divide and conquer a little bit hang on take these guys out first you five go here this is going to be a mess but i think our armor is better than theirs more importantly just go for it let's go for it proper medieval skirmish yeah this is much better who needs to plan get him team it's either that we sit there and let them just shell us from a distance they're doing a great job our people have got it look at them go let's kidnap who they can and leave no no no no no no no i don't think so they're taking their own people i see can you not search and destroy you lose your arms uh you've lost a leg why can you not search and destroy now you're afraid of afraid of combat just just kill didn't have a weapon i see well good work team to say that we did that with absolutely no planning that could have gone a lot worse 22 hours eight hours was that our biggest casualty tiny child is fine uh atreus is on fire which is a little unfortunate but otherwise not the end of the world solvang single-handedly saved today not only is the only doctor that we've got capable right now but also took out five of them with a single bolt and to stick with our somewhat accidental roman theme romulus an epic name for an epic savior well this one's going to be close infection developed immunity at 99 fantastic good work that was it that was that was the only damage we took from that raid yes how do i build an air balloon ah enables construction right so it's a thing that we place down well i guess i'll be under the clockwork slash steam category then eh hot air balloon there it is uh so we've got to build the balloon moorings first i guess fine we'll put out here in the garden where the animatrony was clock making timber cries bronze and brass but not the bronze and brass that we've got the bronze and brass that this one expects us to have we need like a clockmaker's workshop i guess we could replace this towel with that steam power would give us another power method outside of the gas we could go early industrial medicine seeing as somebody almost died of an infection that probably wouldn't be a terrible idea lens cutting whoa and that one also unlocks prosthetics wind-ups and turrets obviously we won't be using the turrets but the mechanical prosthetic sounds good i think i'll go with steam power first we've gone from phoebe to cassandra now so things are gonna start to ramp up a little bit what do all these campfires keep coming from i definitely did not place a campfire in the garden oh i didn't mind the campfire look hot air balloons okay hot air balloon they just oh it's like a is it like a drop pod then oh interesting so it's an earlier era dropbod i guess we need silk oh how do we make silk we start working on this uh clockmaker's tower but we haven't got the resources for it we need we need brass and bronze specifically from that mod but i assume to get that you need the alloy furnace which you need copper for hey another marriage well it can be far off everybody being paired up paired up and also related okay on the plus side here sabot is fresh blood that's someone not related to arcadius for once i might need to consign everyone to the quarry for a while to get enough resources to make this work steam powered machinery though oh what is this sapphire processor synthesizers wheel cutting engines piston lathes chemistry lab hydrogen for the balloon of course we need a chemistry lab wow this is a hard choice um should we just go all in on the alchemy yeah let's go weird with it why not come on home just a just a chunk of copper and by copper i mean not this copper or this copper either a different third kind of copper desperation to try impressive wrecked straw prize turns to alchemy if only we had somewhere to plant all those freaking crops so the terraforming is going pretty well we've got a lot of areas that unfortunately require the sand to be stabilized so that uses a shitload of wood per block then there are also giant chunks of unquote sandstone too which is a bit of a pen in the ass but something we can kind of work around by using quarries to smooth it out that's another child wow next generation we're absolutely set we haven't got to worry about potentially bringing in some more prisons well i industrialization copper and the clover can steam copper so we need 25 brass and 50 bronze that will let us make the clock making table everything else requires the brass or bronze whatever else it is we forget from the mod to to be produced we can do anything else with it until we've got this i wonder if the steam collectors ah that makes perfect sense oh that's actually really convenient because we have one in the castle as well cassandra has immediately decided to come out and hit us with a drought which is fantastic given that we live in a freaking desert please stop trying to sew the grass you're gonna be there forever oh and there it is our biggest terraforming project yet so the only sand that we haven't replaced are these sands that need stabilizing so we'll need a massive amount of wood for that and i think the other way we're probably going to be able to get that much wood is by replacing all of the soil we've got now with growing zones for cactuses trees whatever grows fastest so in the background i've been doing a lot of boring micromanagement i've tidied up the entire stockpile i've started having to move all of the raw resources over towards the forging area kind of reshuffled this a little bit but you might notice a look at how many mechanical plates we've got now he's absolutely cracked it out granted we i've run out of gold again but that's not the point the biggest thing of all we've recycled almost all of those old clothes armor sets from the medieval era we'll start getting rid of the ashigaru and the uh the armored helmets there too then we're like a full-on proper clockwork civilization i i hope there's some sort of clockwork melee weapon i noticed there was circular saws as an option to craft in the clockmaking table and i think obviously they're intended as tools right but if we can also double that up and use them as a melee weapon as well one thing we've really not done much this series is is sidearms pickaxes uh hatchets for plant working that type of thing because we're already running melee weapons which are way heavier than firearms we're already kind of hitting our limit of how many tools that we can have now the big problem for the timing is to get the brass and bronzello we need to even just begin by making the clockwork table we already need chem fuel we have no way to get kempfield right now so ideally we need um biodistillation or something like that we'll see what pops up here in the meantime uh ab synth what are the serums ecstasia and phantasm mind altering serum the uh minister and this is probably a war crime eh i didn't even need to look at the other one but seriously though that one sounds like it's uh a torture device and this one i assume is the opposite then given the name it stays here you'd assume it will long lasting more than an individual might call stick shift consumed too often probably very similar to ambrosia then well that was fast bloody hell remember any of the plants obviously sewn to uh to grow that yet but i mean [ __ ] when the drought's over and done with we could we could convert some of these into alchemy fields temporarily what do we want now so lens cutting i noticed is uh well it's not only a pretty requisite to mechanical prosthetics but it was also used in something else one of the uh stations granted i think we probably still won't be able to do anything until we got chem fuel we might have to research all of the steam era stuff until we can get ourselves biodistillation again oh this is difficult so we got clockwork turrets so now look we are obviously going to stick to the rule of no firearms but there's this this is weird we cannot only craft the snow from the turret which of course definitely counts as firearms we can craft a spider that has a gun does that count as a firearm i mean like it is equipped with a gun i think it's fairly safe to say yes but it we are just building the spider and the spider just happens to have a gun we have no control over the gun ah we need to we need to sort this out and then we've got steam rifle down here on uh um steamwork weapons so i don't think there are any steamwork melee weapons which is a bit of a shame but there are steamwork tools uh i guess we go early industrial medicine to be honest the hospital could do with a severe upgrade because right now it's just a bunch of stone beds in a room this is a hard choice we've got some really interesting sounding prosthetics we've also got wind-ups which apparently help around the colony then we've got chemistry that adds a chemistry lab which might be what we need to get the chem fuel to kickstart things i think i'm gonna have to go with chemistry just on the off chance it gives us chem fuel bumpery hog of plasma pregnant bum free hogger as in the wife of the 66 year old wife of herky jerk fair enough who is the successor uh is it barnabus one was gravy plasma um no no no it's not barnabas he only has two daughters right who are also both his cousins by the way also both of which he finds physically appealing i'm very alabama he doesn't actually have a son which isn't the end of the world it just means that if his daughters get married and choose not to take their husband's names that's the only way we can actually keep the the dynasty going at that point right we've just got out get lucky and gamble on it can we stabilize it well we haven't even got enough wood to stabilize a single block of sand a little only 5 000 no that might have just been the box that i drew no it was oh no ah who decided to play in the desert this is horrible so we need to stabilize all of this [ __ ] oh my god it's it's actually going to cost a fortune it's probably going to be around 7 000 not including that bit in the mountain there wow uh all right then i guess we'll um start growing some cactuses i guess we'll just start growing cactuses everywhere here you know what i will do hang on zone let's go growing zone and let's go uh flood fill just wherever we can oh my god can we not create a growing zone or any of this what the hell maybe you can't flood full of growing zone am i losing my mind but that is that is soil right there adjusted fertility due to drought 10 percent can i not place it because it's drought balls okay but i sure hope this drought [ __ ] off soon so we've got romulus on researching still mechanical romulus they're 16.36 intellectual so wonder we're blitzing through some of these so fast but they're quite small on the whereas home there's no wonder they're getting through it so fast steam powered machinery next steam-powered suits what are those steam-powered suit 120 sharp armor 10 money speed 5 construction speed we could give that to ohm all of these guys have to mechanize play he has the full-on mechanical suit that would be quite cool again i'm not sure we can build it because we don't have the access to brass or bronze square yet but let's try it we've got to try it it's the final plate oh it is incredible because we've got kippos and bumpery hogger plasma left to equip we've got one on the floor there that apparently was worn for like a single second i'm not gonna bother to recycle any of these because they just recycle down into tin copper it's not worth the work unfortunately put into into recycling it let's get why are you not break up in this gear i'm just going to get you to uh put it on manually i think i think that's it a fully steampunk mechanical colony wow we should be able to stand up to raise a little bit better now how we're looking for armor sharp armor is the important thing now that we're going forward but of course blunt is always going to be relevant because we're closing into melee range but to actually get into melee range we need to shut up armor in the first place right so 119 hundred seventeen hundred and five ninety six it was a little low 111 97. everybody's above 90 which i'm more than happy about some of them going up close towards 140 as well there wow i say on average we're probably looking at about 100 with the exception of this is a tiny child they're also still wearing the ash garo armour so that doesn't really count and then of course owen himself there still writing books hey how are you doing any any better books yet uh oh he's made three of them [ __ ] excellent good it's what's going on animals but there we've got still the masterwork one other excellent quality i mean like it doesn't really matter too much because it means that when people have recreation time i guess the chance of them picking up a book increases with the amount of bloody books you've got right there's only one in use then that was the only one that was ever gonna get used next big upgrade then weapons we've got all sorts of weapons and almost every single weapon they're using right now is a is a scavenged weapon something we've taken from a raiding media reflection basically in the tribal era that we've just kept and equipped when we had the technology for it there it is the final one herky jerky genuine massive redemption arc brennaman we had arcadius who was insane and crafted so many things our original crafter we had hanky-pank herky-jerky's dad and arcadius's son who was also insane crafted some master work gear he had what like 23 crafting when he died herky jerky never had a passion for it has done it because he has to and has really redeemed himself i mean he's got the whole colony brought up to a whole new era here uh no that last one is four is it for you tiny child yeah here you go armor for the baby suppose the next question is then can we make weapons from these things can we make the next level of items from the forge so the other items we need for what was the spear we were going to make again 40 stabilo for that one this one i have no idea how to get i assume we have to sacrifice prisoners at that ritual stone so stab alloy how do we get that let's take a look here so we can currently heat up to 1023 degrees c this one 1800 well look if we swap it out though hang on hang on hang on swap those out for the arc furnace elements we've got loads of electricity from the gas that we're just not using two advanced components each oh [ __ ] you know we might just have that with the mechanic clusters and the um whatever the bloody void pods according to the radiop ones though that's void that's just a given we've got ten we've got ten of the freaking things right let's throw down two arc furnace eating elements i don't think we'll be able to power this it's an arc furnace they're i mean they're pretty power intensive so right now it says power needed 50. i assume that's because it's idle and i assume when we turn it on it's going to get a lot more power than that now if needs be the alexian stuff this was quite a while ago now got a massive buff and they made the generators use way less gas per generator 25 i assume that's meters cubed today uh for the gas consumed and then the pumps put out 300 right so we could get 12 generators out of that god it's a terrible mental about 4 8 12 12 generators a thousand a piece is um well that's 12 000 what's in it i don't need a calculator for that one just to clarify i didn't need a calculator i know what four times three is thank you okay there we go two arc furnace heating elements oh wait oh my god can we heat everything well of course we must be able to because that's the hottest one i wonder though depending on what we're smelting whether or not it consumes more and more power so we can potentially make adamantium wow that's insane um beauty minus four i'm kind of surprised by that some of the gold so we want stabilo for the uh well for the stabby alloy spear we could go weeb with it and we can make him an adamantium katana that'd be so simple like a big old fragment axe or something that'll be incredible there's also that thing as well virtuous tracy requires the so 100 rainy ingredient 12 components two advanced components 50 gilded plasteel you can make gilded plastil we do have a lot of gold and we haven't used any plastidal at all as far as i know maybe you can go so but i'm going to use that spear for the arcadius dynasty right it's kind of their their weapon they were passed down generation through generation [Music] for oh we can make that thing that has a 75 chance to deflect bullets back at the attacker that sounds insane 70 40 stability and 50 gilded plastel oh another child hang on that's also kippos one thing i completely forgot about kippos is that they're volcanian so she has a chance to produce other volcanions for us i wonder if any were born volcano i just didn't notice human human human human human human human ah well that's disappointing look at it go oh that's incredible and there we are look you can see that the different kind of sets we've got the golden plastic coming in the outside for a little bit of gilded plastil fantastic hey keep going herky jerky you've got this i really love the the visual mods like this where they've added the uh i mean even just something as simple as showing where cellos are being smelted visually is is really really nice oh [ __ ] here it goes how much work is it it's really not that bad he doesn't have an inspiration he doesn't particularly high crafting or anything like that this is a weapon he's crafting for himself at the end of the day uh atreyu's reached the age of 64. freya eletraeus is the research not whoa whoa requires an analytical stack oh a complicated arrangement of gears that increase research bench speed when placing it a steam research bench ah [ __ ] we've got to build something before we can do that right okay then uh we don't have that unlocked quite yet might be meteor storm and an eclipse any good medieval settlement would think that their goddess their goddess curse them at this point arcadius please what have we done wrong arcadias we've got cousins loving falling on it yet hang on uh cloth we've got 1 700 devil strand it's not it's not that bad everything's fine my god the room filled with highly combustible gas you know maybe i'll throw a couple of walls around that seeing as our uh holy [ __ ] that was close that could have been a little dangerous i should have made these walls a bit more geometric rather than random because every time we have to rebuild it i just have to guess and they go wanker and wonky i think the next big step then is to upgrade a lot of our infrastructure that is still a little bit stuck in the past is fair to say we got a bunch of passive coolers in every bedroom there's no wonder we never have enough wood to do anything not to mention all of our meals come out of a primitive stone oven where we've got like we've literally got powered stoves at this point so we can build a galaxy and gas stove which i think i'll probably do right away oh but we would have to pump gas all the way to the side of the map is any more effective than just turning into power and then using the power because regular stoves really don't consume that much do they propane stove oh is that we've got the option on propane or elixir gas oh right okay well in that case we will have to use this one huh get rid of that absolutely cursed cheese press that we can't use it anyway because the room is too warm we'd have to put that in like a like a much colder area then i think what we'll do is we'll just take every passive cooler on the map 27 passive coolers no wonder we can't stand running out of wood i don't know why you can't fuel them with i don't know say for example an abundance of friggin ice oh and then we can build a couple of gas coolers in here so we are just gonna have to run gas over here anyway we could get rid of the ice box and the ice creation station and then we could stop sowing hay so we just get rid of that entirely we love the victorian style gas powered everything for quite a while let's throw a passive cooler then in ideally look we need gas coolers in basically every building but it's not really feasible to have gas coolers we're talking three components per room at 16 rooms not to mention the amount of gas that's going to use up i think we just need to start building bigger houses alternatively we can link these together divide them up into separate room segments and then have vents into each one well either way i also just noticed on here and it's good if i check this because i would have missed it entirely otherwise bill complete make virtuous treaty the virtuous treaty of course being the weapon that we had hercule jerky make for ohm oh my god there it is samarium oh my god it was stuffable i didn't know it was stuffable otherwise i could have changed the oh well i'm that we used for an era now we'll switch over to our ridiculous arc furnace alloy deflection sword oh may just well be unkillable i mean not to rockets or explosives of any kind it's only a 95 percent chance that was it 95 75 hard to kill sure but i know him by himself can't survive it's about keeping you know everybody else are we stopping to the mechanical armor i don't know that i like that it's there we go another successor for arcadius that was getting a little bit dangerous there because i mean his wife is 71 don't question it okay don't question it as they get older the fertility is sitting here like a fool wondering how the hell i'm supposed to get kempfield when we've only got access to late medieval early industrial technology i.e no bio if you're refining turns out this bloody thing is powered with coal even though we've got a shitload of coal so it must be a different type of coal coal mods in remodel ah it's medieval times all over again so we do have cold chunks but that's obviously the wrong type of coal what coal do you need i guess it's not a cop hang on we do have uh a project rim factory i think that's a mine shaft similar yeah but we have to build it into a mountain we also need wood for it of course we need freaking wood of course we need wood the things this game makes me do okay om build the mine shaft from here we get coal no please send help please my family is starving like charcoal in uh in a furnace or a stove make crushed charcoal that's for remote tech a different type of coal again [Laughter] coal there isn't even any coal in the game there's crushed charcoal and cold chunks what do you want what do you want me to fuel you with you just tell me and i'll do it a coal-fueled station [ __ ] it let's try the crushed charcoal maybe hey there we go for god's sake all right oh no any materials what are we lacking for that then there's any zinc and any tin really what from all of this mining we haven't got tin or zinc oh apparently we found titanium though you're right just a shitload of copper well how rare is tin and zinc then don't tell me that's not in the game either i can't handle it oh wait do you make brass out of copper and coal who could have guessed hi no what's wrong with you what just go get some stew you idiot well this has been a thoroughly stressful experience but we are prepared tomorrow too hopefully unless there's something else missing to begin working on steampunk mean more importantly we've mechanized the entire colony what an army i'm well i think we're ready we are very well defended against bullets firearms not explosives but we won't worry about explosives for the time being there's only one industrial faction in the game well there aren't any by uh by default remote actually so we're only going to be up against small firearms for the timing mechanism still might it's just broken rank just like that look at that unbelievable mechanoids might be a problem really the big things folks are now is weapons we can get up close and personal we need to finish it fast because this stuff does not have very good blunt armor compared to sharp let's see what happens i'm really excited to see
