large crowds and we see all this stuff going on our tv sets but today i think we ought to just focus on the lord you bless me to give you one more time whatever it's gonna be it's gonna be amazing the election is coming up tuesday but thank god we know who's in charge amen amen and so we just give god all the praise and all the glory and all the honor that is due to him [Music] and start our nobody seemed to rub their head nobody to kill but god i know that you care the blood of jesus right now because the blood is the foundation of our life god we stand on your word every division of also god you know i need you know it all god god we thank you for this male god that you continue to bless him oh god crowd is gabriel wilson and knowledge [Music] all down through the years god had brooks and all of us who make up this beautiful congregation today i said um i was glad when they said unto us let us go into the house of the lord and what much glorious beautiful sunshiny day that the lord has given us to come home for thanksgiving and to rejoice and praise him on our 91st church anniversary we beg you welcome and we just say let go let god and in times like this when i think about the goodness of jesus [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] what a glorious day we pray that god will continue to cover us and that we will just let go and let god you are welcome in this house you are always welcome at the greater rising star missionary baptist church 55 13 come and drive when wise men saw the star they went home a different way you are welcome thank you [Music] thank you good morning good morning giving our praises to our heavenly father that created the maker of all mankind honoring our pastor pastor brooks pastor heinz the other ministers that graced the pulpit and to each of you my task this morning is to give you the history of the greater rising star missionary baptist church the rising star missionary baptist church is 79 years old the church was first organized in haskell texas on november 18 1941 in the home of reverend aaron h lilly with 15 members in its organization it served in haskell five years under the leadership of reverend maylie the church was then torn down in sections and moved to fort worth on a large camel truck and was erected on a lot at 4813 street after moving to fort worth the church only had four members reverend eddie aaron lilly sister n a lily deacon raphael and emma bedford reverend lilly served as pastor until his health failed under his leadership two associate ministers served alongside him reverend robertson and reverend adkins reverend mitchell and reverend gerald pastored the church for a short time in 1960 reverend atkins was called to pass to the church and he accepted reverend atkins had a vision to expand and two lots were purchased on the corner of chariot and vickery where the church at 5400 chariot drive was built the name of the church was then changed to the greater rising star missionary baptist church reverend atkins served as pastor of the church for 26 years under his leadership the church grew and four brothers were called to the ministry in 1987 reverend atkins retired as pastor we are grateful for his pastoral service and leadership along with his faithfulness in march 1987 reverend floyd brooks was called to pastor greater rising star missionary baptist church under pastor brooks leadership the church continues to grow with eight brothers called to the ministry and nine ministers uniting all of which becoming associate ministers to reverend brook's foresight a great vision was birthed into existence his vision was to build a larger edifice to meet the needs of our growing church in 1990 the s e atkins youth choir was formed in honor of our retired pastor the late pastor s.e actors in 1998 on march 22nd we dedicated a program for the proposed new church site on january 15th 1999 the foundation of the new building began and on september 25th 1999 we celebrated the completion of our new church where we are presently located at 5513 combo drive our first worship service in the new facility was held on sunday october 3rd the ribbon cutting ceremony and official interest service took place on october 10th the dedication of our new edifice was on october 17th with whom all praise and glory was given to our god the cornerstone laying ceremony was commenced on june 24 2001. september 28 2003 the fellowship hall was dedicated and named in memory and honor of our former first lady sister larissa atkins in 2006 another blessing was granted to our church god blessed us to pay the final payment of a 15-year loan in six years 11 months and 11 days in 2012 we were blessed to honor our pastor for his divine leadership service commitment and faithfulness of 25 years thank you pastor brooks pastor brooks has been given another vision that vision is to build a family life center therefore in 2018 two lots has been purchased across the street now in 2020 we are faced with a life challenging crisis known as covet 19. a disease that has caused interruption in our in-person worshipping but we serve a god that is larger than covet 19. therefore we are grateful for technology and its ability to reach not only our congregation but others as well we are now able to pre-record and live stream our services we give all the glory and praise to god our father for his blessings faithfulness and favor upon the greater rising star missionary baptist church thank you pastor brooks for your leadership and we pray for your foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] so many have been called on since last summer but he looked beyond [Music] we have a man of god that the lord told me to ask you to come and help us celebrate our 79th church anniversary never in the history of this church have we been through what we've been through but the book says there's nothing new under the sun if you pray the preacher will preach it and if you don't pray he's still going to preach it can the church say amen none other than our good friend he was supposed to come to us the violence just delayed a lot of things but today is his day to come and preach the word of god to us yes [Music] anybody need to hear from heaven today anybody [Music] [Music] the man of [Music] amen amen that he has done yeah [Music] hallelujah [Music] yeah despite all the things that we are going through and what we have encountered the lord is still blessing us we ought to be thankful that the lord our golden moments to roll on just a little while longer so glad that pastor brooks called me i hadn't been preaching so my spiritual muscle is kind of weak i wish you all would pray with me today as we try to amen i'm not going to hold you alone i'm going to let you get out of here but there's a song that i i always like to sing on sunday morning says [Music] [Applause] my [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] what [Applause] before i drew my breath away [Music] [Music] [Music] wow [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] for the visitation of yours [Music] [Music] [Music] it seems like there's no way out yes yes you do but god i still believe [Music] [Music] seven and nine years of being on the back [Music] [Music] nevertheless our prayer is always has been and it always will be that you be glorified it is in the mighty powerful and precious name of jesus the christ son of the living god we pray and the saints of god will say amen amen amen amen [Music] the gospel according to saint luke gospel according to saint luke chapter 19 beginning with verse 37 and concluding around verse 4. luke 19. 37 through 4. yes sir when you have to say amen don't have to say hold on amen it is there that you should find these words recorded and when he was come now even now at the descent of the mount of olives the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise god with a loud voice for all the mighty works they have seen saying blessed be the king that cometh in the name of the lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest some of the pharisees from among the multitudes said unto him master rebuked thy disciples and he answered and said for him to them i tell you that if these should hold their peace just a brief moment i want to talk about the church that wouldn't keep white church that wouldn't keep quiet 1990 see eric lincoln wrote his landmark book entitled the black church in the african american experience wherein he describes many of the characteristics that contribute to the uniqueness of the black religious experience lincoln notes that black churches are filled with passion and emotion and that the further of our religious experience is often expressed with volume well i suppose that there's a polite way of saying that we are a noisy crime yeah but saints i'm glad that i'm in a church that won't keep quiet yeah and yet when i look in the bible i see that we are in some pretty good company because in our text today we find another church that would not keep quiet yeah in light of what this particular sunday represents upon our christian calendar permit me to take you back across the chatham of time to the waning moments in the life of jesus christ fresh from his visit to bethany where he had raised lazarus from the grave yeah comes luke's description of his triumphant entry into a city called jerusalem yeah down the sloping mountains that separated bethanette from the holy city spiral the caravan of converge led by jesus and as he approaches the city masses of people lined the streets and blinking his path with paul leaves an act that in ancient times was reserved for royalty well and to the shouts of hallelujah and praise comes jesus on his way to a city that destiny would not permit him to leave give to us jesus amongst the enormous adoration of the crowds that salute him as the one who comes in the name of the lord jesus with his disciples in tow and the glaring countenances of the religious hierarchy fixed upon him well here comes jesus with the feeding of the five thousand day and the healing of blind bartimaeus having been recently added to his profile and his portfolio here comes jesus winding up on a donkey but with the carriage of day of being the king of kings and the lord [Applause] [Music] that the order of the gospel of luke picks up the story and by doing so alerts us to the reality that that all is not as it seems in the big picture because despite the enthusiastic crowd and despite the chance of adoration and despite the overflowing optimism and joy something is not quite right it is in the 39th verse it is in the 39th verse that we get a hint of the discord and the possible negative undercurrent that accompanies this gratification note if you will that the lugan writer says that some of the pharisees yeah from among the multitude suggests to jesus that he quiet the crowd because they are making too much noise don't miss this because those who attempt to silence the saints are not a group of casual observers who are stationed off to the side somewhere watching in a somewhat detached way the bible says they were part of the multitude well the same multitude that the bible says the whole multitude of disciples began to rejoice well this means catch me here this means that just a few minutes early the same people who were asking that the crowd be quiet yeah yeah were part of the crowd that was making the noise all yeah it is right how you can be sitting next to somebody who is praising the lord with you one minute yeah the next minute they have a solid demeanor on their face and nothing can make them move well [Music] some people do just enough praise so that they can get close enough to you to stop your praise fight for your joy and sound your spirit sabotage your smile stop in your oval and soften your i look at volume various scenes that were mixed into multitudes i cannot help but to nickname them the praise police um a self-appointed spiritual boss hall if you will who feel that it is their job to monitor and measure just how much praise ought to go forward yeah let me hasten to add that all of the praise police are not confined to the year and the day of this text listen you have some praise believes that it may be [Music] to take your focus off of this word all right but if i change you find yourself in the midst of praise beliefs let them know with your spot and your amen that this joy that you have the world can give it to you and the world [Applause] that could have caused a sudden change of heart rate what what was it that caused these pharisees to do a certain about faith well what happened that those who were saying amen one minute was saying be quiet the next minute come on the first point that jumps out of the taxi or the reason they were acting like this was because they had not given the permission well see if i can come let me offer you a few possibilities it could be that when these pharisees saw all of this praise going on it occurred to them that the people were praising the lord and nobody had asked them for permission to praise it come on all right [Music] the people can be having a good time but there are some that just sit there untouched unmoved unattached and i'm interested to anything that's going on you notice that those kinds of people are always looking around come on to see whose attention they can get almost as if to say if i'm not praising it you better not pray but you can't stop my praise you know why you can't stop [Applause] [Music] let me be crystal clear kenneth oh regardless as to what is going on around us and regardless as to who does not like the praise and you can't nobody do you like jesus yeah [Applause] [Applause] but then the second one is they didn't start it so they couldn't stop come on let's see maybe they were upset because nobody had asked them permission but the other reason was that they could have been upset but because they they therefore they had to ask jesus to intervene because they could not stop the praise yeah look closely at the text if you will that it's clear when jesus appeared in the bible that the multitude began to praise him now notice the multitude did not start to praise the lord but the pharisees said to pray all right and since they did not starve with them they could not stop them well and if you're not careful you will find yourself around some people who feel that they have the keys to your praise and if they do not start you if they do not start it you will not start with them well but the problem with that is that if they can start you come on preachers [Music] [Applause] if [Music] [Music] that they [Applause] [Applause] i thank god for saving me and nobody is going to push my buttons for me but the holy spirit [Music] is the pharisees got mad at the people yeah because they were praising him and not praising them yeah yeah that's the story though finally finally we're brothers let me suggest to you that perhaps the final reason that these pharisees were upset yeah that's a good time but because the people were praising him and not them [Music] the text says i didn't say in the textbook that when jesus showed up when he showed up when he appeared yeah nobody else when jesus appeared yeah praises went forth all right the people were praising him and nothing yeah yeah now now i know this is not that does not happen around here but i've been in some place where some people while somebody else is praising the lord would just sit there like that person is getting on that nerve i'm on my way i promise no expression [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well you know we got it right now in the white house [Music] [Applause] when you are praising the lord i want to be i want to cheer you all because the same god that has done whatever you're talking about for [Music] and if he's done something for you i know that he's on the street or in my neighborhood and if i praise him like you're crazy i know that i'm scheduled for my next blessing so i've been raised off with you because i just met the next on this list let me close with this observation when i really take home from this text preaching is what is found in the latter clause of verse 37 yeah all right all right the bible says that the real reason the people were shouting and praising jesus was because of the mighty words they had already seen him do [Applause] you know what our problem is in the church by christ we forget to say faith [Applause] we forget to think about what he's already done thank you for that stuff yet [Applause] but they were praising him because of what they had already seen all right they were praising god because of what they had seen you see the pharisees blew it because they were preoccupied with themselves but the people were not paying them any money the people were praying him because what they had seen him do yeah listen when you have seen god do something yeah it will cause you yeah yeah to make some noise when you see god do something yeah [Music] it will cause you to sit around waving your hands because you can't be quiet yeah when you see god do some things yeah in your life no self-appointed praise police can make you sit down yeah you'll stand up and you'll say you don't know [Applause] [Music] [Applause] watching on live stream yeah who can shout hallelujah because they sing god do something there's some people in here today [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] there are some people who can say glory to god because you've seen god what they said do some things and i got away and if you don't see it and if you can't say it [Music] no [Applause] [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] i got a testimony i got a girl from longview texas yes she's from long new texas and she came down from this small regional hospital down to dallas texas and the word got back to me that she won't live on her way out of here she got one daughter and she got a hug and she's the bigger girl of a sister that brothers i went down on my knees and i said lord you know [Music] [Music] but i told the lord that i was gonna run on and see what the end's gonna be they gotta debate her put on a sophisticated machine she would look and down she was in and out and the doctor said she ain't gonna make it but another doctor who knew she looked over at her bed [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] it's a different time now because of this pandemic we can't go to church like we used to and we can't praise the lord like we used to but let me just remind you that this building ain't the church this building is a place where the church comes together to release all of their anxieties that the turtles endure get refueled and go back out there and still [Music] the church is in you [Applause] and you don't have to be in a building to praise alone [Music] yes [Music] they still had loose lips [Applause] [Music] [Music] she is [Music] [Music] to see [Music] is [Music] oh man i'm not sure wait i'm wrong [Applause] [Music] there are some places [Applause] i cannot go [Music] yes [Music] you're all alone [Music] him in my heart [Music] yes [Music] yes [Music] this church we didn't know where we were headed we didn't know what we were going to do oh yes but you know what god is a good god he's a merciful god i hit somebody i thought about noah you know did nobody here know about his family [Music] but after the second sunday we didn't know how long it was going to be yes sir well my daughter asked me say what what can we do what can we do in here come on up here dog come on [Music] come on come on up here grandchildren this has been my church on wednesday nights that we're delivering to you i talk about how god told noah to build all and he kept wanting but didn't nobody hear him but his family come on up here wife can't you help on brother noah [Music] come on up here uh [Music] come on how many people do you have standing okay any comments out there 11 people put this together since the third sunday of march so that we could bless and continue as they sleep stay in touch with the church sister sharon come on up here because we put on something for the young people because we wanted the young people involved that's 12 people if god used us up until this time to get into this house today to give god some praise and to keep us in tune and in touch i asked my son-in-law to tell you how we have blessed it all began with sister irma jones when the lord took her home and we couldn't all get into the church only 10 people but that day they allowed 12 people and we said what are we gonna do and we said we heard someone say live streaming since we have live stream give them some facts and some figures well i want to go back to something you said okay um this started when i saw floyd he came in uh he came to my home and i saw he was burdened and one thing i know about floyd as you call pastor he walks a certain way his life is a certain way i've known him for 17 years and i've seen consistency i've seen him not only preach it but live it and when he came in my home and he was concerned about the church of so many things i just knew in my heart i had to help and and uh we were gonna make it a surprise for easter um we were gonna build the churchill website and i was working on the website and my wife would tell you what movie were we watching we were watching noah so when he get up here he talked about noah this is this is what we were watching and i tell you that we did some things and i want to give you the numbers we not only do we have a church website and i i think it's important and i felt this to make sure everybody knows what the church website is because this is one of the few times we've all gathered together our church website is r s b c greater rising star baptist church and i'm sorry i left out the missionary um it's grsbc.com and on our church website every month we have between 450 to 500 visitors on our church website on top of that we have a church youtube channel and if anybody is familiar with youtube there's millions and millions and millions of videos and and so many things and on youtube our church videos we have surpassed 20 000 views since we have roughly about 70 videos on our youtube channel as well as we're live streaming this morning and there's about 50 to 53 people watching us as we talk right now on our youtube channel that is connected to our church website so if you haven't subscribed to the youtube channel we have about 250 subscribers so go to the church website grsbc.com subscribe to the youtube channel and i know that they even have it on our tv if you're a smart tv you can go to youtube and you can watch it right on your tv um sunday morning servers and wednesday night now just to tell you some of the things we've done and this could not be done without many many hours of work we do sunday morning service and we have those ready for you every weekend i want to thank kelsey um because she is so dedicated to doing things in [Applause] so we do sunday morning service uh we do wednesday night service i want to thank miss henry's not here but she's been cooking for us on tuesday night and that's been a blessing so we get ready floyd comes all the way drives across town 40 minutes and we record wednesday night service on tuesday in our home so that is available on the church website as well as youtube on wednesday night also as many funerals as we've had live streams that we've done parking lot services youth night and i i'm really excited really because we want to see this grow even more for the youth um we've done marriage my wife has done marriage seminars we've done trivia family bible nights and so many many more as well as coming inside the building and doing special events that we do but i do want to say one thing and this is my opinion of what i want to say one of the things that i realized and it's been very very real to me this world this pandemic people's lives things have not been the same and one of the things that we have to make sure because floyd's heart was to do this work for god my heart was to do his work for god so one day when we stand before him and he asked us what did you do i can say i did something to increase the kingdom we have over 20 000 views on a worldly website youtube that is promoting the kingdom so my call to use is a great commission jesus said go and spread the gospel throughout the world so the reason why i gave you the church website so many times i'm asking you tell people about the church website if they can't come to the building tell them hey my pastor's online my pastor's on youtube pastor floyd gross raider rising star baptist church grsbc.com to help people because they can watch any video anything we've done over and over again they can get the message and that is our way of promoting the kingdom so i just wanted to share that with you to kind of give you some of the reasons why all these people are committed is because they are committed they know this time and this world is different so we have to be different and i was asking you to continue to support the church just through this online giving on site well pastor is overseeing that continue to support the ministry continue to support your past because he has not stopped if we just don't look different now and that's all i have to say because the women's ministry even went on with that book revealed it was all because of these individuals [Applause] nolan has sunday school his class is on soon every sunday morning 29 to 30 people god have blessed the church to continue to rob [Applause] here it's been a blessed day [Applause] let me tell you something pastor brooks is not interested in what other folks are doing i have to do what the lord tell me to do what's best for you let's say amen since the parking lot service thank god for sister gloria because she was here uh very much see when you pray you ask god i have been praying i say lord i wish my my daughter my son and all my grandkids would come on in here what god did in march just through the death of sister john and if i gave my daughter something i need to give my wife amen [Applause] [Music] she's been here every saturday she's been faithful and god has been blessing us just want to give you some flowers to let you know i love you thank you [Applause] [Music] tried to help too a little come here y'all see she's at church today though she been on me about having a church she said we need to go back to the church she got up this morning and she came to church y'all give her some love she left track 23 and she's gonna be graduating his mother [Music] 10 [Music] she's gonna ask me what i need brother dwayne stand up stand up wait in your hand brother mike and you know we missing a person today that really would be here and that's brother jennifer [Music] but the lord took him home before i could lay my hands on it but he was getting ready for me that when we walked back in the church he already had his scripture he had his prayers and he even had a song in december you need to have a scripture a prayer and a song it's gonna be really changes if we can make it to december that's going to be some new stuff some new hope and let me give you some assurance the lord told me yes i've come in and taken some people but i'm going to replenish the church y'all didn't even hear what i said he's going to replenish the church let us learn to pray for one another i already have at least three funerals this week pray for our evangelist young her brother will be laid to rest on friday at 10 am in the national cemetery those of you that can show up at the national at 10 a.m and you need to be on time amen we need to be there to support amen since what last three weeks since the salmon lost the sister i called denver colorado just like we're in service the spirit fell on me and i called sister nancy murphy his sister in denver didn't even know her husband had passed saturday but so much joy she had when she heard my voice she said all pastor brooks my husband passed saturday pastor isn't that it was past former pastor of new rising star let's keep new rising star and pray and the list goes on and on i'll be eulogizing jimmy prop on wednesday at 11 a.m at golden gate chapel it just keep going on and on do i need your prayers yes i need your prayers because when i walk into these hospitals when i go into these field homes when i'm surrounded by people i have people concerned about me saying pastor take care of yourself pastor i don't care if you were at the cemetery i showed up don't worry about what somebody else is doing you make sure you doing the right thing
