so when you were a full-blown in the ghost shadows what were you primarily doing for money robbing use doing drugs gambling houses [ __ ] houses we will protect these houses we will protect these game on to the gambling houses or we were robbed game of the houses robbed or houses we were protection we would serve as protection and I would do anything my older brother and what that's what we call them dialogue like that I will do whatever they told me to do no matter how many people were like at the height of the of the ghost shadows how many members were there right 200 250 right then Alton New York yeah we had Brooklyn Sachs yeah but like Brooklyn the tri-state yeah Brooklyn Queens okay man and there was one leader at the very top of this yeah okay that was not you know I wasn't me okay now but um I was I was a kid I'm saying I was just I didn't even have the the know how to run a cruel I mean I had a crew with me but like little small kids like we were all kids and I'm seeing that I ran that crew but you know in terms of the whole gang I was you know what my mind-state wasn't even me I was just reckless being a reckless okay what do you think was the most serious situation you got in to do that well we always we always had wow mob the first situation that I seen it was like probably like the third day when I came onto the street you know I seen my I seen somebody die I mean I seen like I seen dead bodies before that like maybe a couple times before like on the street and we'll walk by and this is like in a like an 80s like early 80s like you know their bodies on the street was kind of like it was kind of lonely I'm saying and so I seen that maybe like you know one time I seen somebody that fell from the building and was on the floor like all like I mean but I never seen nobody get killed in front of me that was my father so when I like the third day I came on to the gang up you know it was a game war a fight and I got a rival gang I was in a restaurant and we were eating dinner and you know we watched the block so meaning like there's always people on the Block on our street and we watch him so making sure like you know there's cameras on the street so like on our safe house we can see who's coming on a block who's coming off the block so we had stash spots where we stash weapons guns and whatever so among that is this date our rival gang they came up to black like to you know just are some like to go to war so I didn't know what the [ __ ] like I kind of got like oh [ __ ] I'm saying and then somebody that one of the people that were older than me like that we were I was answering to you know I mean I watched him get stabbed to death right in front of me and I like kind of just froze and I just stopped that I didn't know what to do you know me and you know and I was crazy as [ __ ] I watched this man like I watched the breath oh I wasn't take his life but that didn't make you want to quit no no I don't know I didn't but if anything it made me like be a part of the more cuz it's like oh they killed one of ours i dad's one of ours like an eight and they they say Brandon died in my head like that was all one involved one of my brothers one of my brothers so it made me even like hate the rival gang even more and I just you know it didn't make me want to stop it just made me want to like do something they don't so you continue to live this lifestyle like how many years were you in it altogether Oh probably will actually kind of died down right I was in it from like maybe maybe 10 years something something like that okay so from 11 years old at 21 years old yeah you're a full-time gangster but louder that I was in jail I kept on going to jail I kept on getting arrested I kept on a chair come come back home and then when I go to chair you know big bus start happening like people start going and I come back and it's like different and then I'm the last time I was around for it was when I caught my case and I was going for ten years after that when I came back it was gone like there was no more yeah there was no more there was no more goat shadows nobody really you know I mean it was just like it was just like a you know like a folklore you know okay so when you were getting arrested over and over again what was it 40 Sun robberies or you know witness tampering um assault like a lot of ownership okay so you would try to silence witnesses from testifying against you yeah got caught yeah so here you are a Chinese guy in New York yeah you get arrested in your Center Rikers yeah now in Rikers I've never been but I'm assuming there's not a lot of Asian people in there mm-hmm it's mostly blacks Latinos yes and whites yeah so here you are really a minority like what percentage were you were in Rikers during those times what percentage was Asian it's probably like I was probably like six of us did the whole prison yeah out of what thousands of people I mean we was I was in c70 for a lesson so it's probably like go or injure people was like my life four or five hundred people something like that hundred and I was just like before or father was racing like that was there a lot of like bullying you know I mean oh yeah yeah definitely I'm seeing arm it was definitely rubbers before me and other brothers that that of Asian brothers that I will fight yeah I'm saying but a lot of them wouldn't fight a lot of them would be scared because you gotta look like they like you like the Asian stature like how we're built you know me were smaller I mean we're not like as big as you know african-americans are or like white people are like yeah I'm saying we're we're kind of smaller were kind of like a little frailer and plus a lot of them didn't speak English you know I mean and it was just being thrusted into a world like a savage world that was just like the [ __ ] is this you know I'm saying so it was really a lot for a lot a lot of us you know and yet it would be bullying yeah I mean I [ __ ] wouldn't be sitting on chairs [ __ ] be sittin on floors all [ __ ] couldn't go into the they had to stay in the day room couldn't use the phone get small portions you know I mean while other people were getting huge portions it was it was tough they try do that to YouTube absolutely what happened I fought every time if I can't if I can't get what I think I I'm I'm supposed to get and I'm not staying in I'm saying I was gonna move you know I mean if I can't get on the phone when I think I should get on the phone I'm saying then I'm gonna put the phone in somebody's mouth but I'm saying you know and that's not because you know I'm super gangsta like I am what I am I don't know I'm putting a label on it you know me but I know I'm not gonna stand I stand for for for something I'm saying like I refuse to let another man you know in the same position I am to tell me I can't speak to my family well I can't eat a whole piece of chicken yeah I'm saying um oh I can't I have to give up my commissary because you're in the gang and I'm not oh because you're black and I'm Chinese right now like for that I you know I'd rather bleed right and you're also not built like a typical Asian man you're 6 1 the bulkier vehicle back then I was skinny how small ever so tall yeah but that sauce in like you know me if I'm I'm tall for Asian but when I'm standing next to you know all black people like I'm sure others are you guys like you comes in so here you are in this Chinese gang the ghost shadows that's a big deal in Chinatown hmm but you're Rikers and you're all by yourself so you kind of asked to join some of the more bigger gangs like the Bloods of the Crips yeah definitely Bloods always you know me I have a lot of homies as blood a lot of my close friends close comrades his blood I got a lot of crap on these two that I like Latin King on me he's got a lot of all types on museums to him but I never joined the gang they always I was always you know you know so laughter - because they saw that I was militant I moved Mellie and I I just I mean I didn't go for the bull [ __ ] so that's what they wanted you know I mean but I never wanted to do that because first of all although I was already in the game I mean I was go shadow and to me joining another game is violating the pledge that took me and just because I'm in a different environment doesn't mean I could just turn into something else so I never did that because of that and also because you know um I saw that I saw that man like when you in prison man you see you see more blood on blood violence then you see blood on that in King Valley so blood on anybody else balance there's always you know I mean they're always fighting amongst each other you see people that you was eating with yesterday I mean people that you smoking but when you spend in the yard way and you like building this comradery [ __ ] with and then the next day your big homie is telling you to shoot this person like to cut this person the stabbed this person yeah I mean somebody that uses your brother when you're in these gangs you know I mean like I seen blood on blood violence or gang on gang violence more than anything else and it could be like one day you know if me and you were in the same gang we could be you know I mean sharing a bowl of food sharing a cigarette talking about you know whatever or even fighting other people with each other and then because of something else that I don't even know about big homie might say you're east fool so you gotta cut them you gotta cut them you gotta stab them or else then you could say you become food you know I'm saying so I seen that and I'm just like that's not what I want to be a part of that's not my thing like I'm saying if we're gonna fight we're gonna fight whoever the enemy is I'm saying when I don't be fighting the most each other I'm not gonna be stabbing you'll be my problem one day and I'm killing you the next day like that don't even make sense yeah I mean so in Chinese gangs there's no such thing as people showing each other I mean listen traitors and you know you know people that unloyal that's not a color thing you know I'm saying that I transcends colors and [ __ ] I'm saying so you're gonna have that type of [ __ ] everywhere all colors or battles or groups or sex or you know I mean um so but it's different yeah I mean like well you know is it we handle things a little differently yeah I mean but I'm just not into it you know I'm not into that when you my brother you my brother I'm saying and you my brother for life unless violate something that you know that's just unspeakable something that we can I mean you go against the code that's different I mean but cutting each other and shooting each other and stabbing each other for [ __ ] nothing because you know you owed somebody hundred dollars then you didn't pay and it was like I'm now I'm doing that for that like I mean it's not even my cord somebody else's called for somebody for something I don't even know about so now I'm not with all that I am saying so I decided I would never join a gang in my life another one yeah I'm saying um gangs is just not you know I mean they're not cool for me man like I mean you know I'm a leader like you know I like to do if something has to be done then I would do it because I feel like it has to be done you know me or because my brother somebody that I really care about I really know but when you're in these games you don't know these people you know I'm saying like especially in jail out here is different like cuz you're in gangs with people that you grew up with and stuff like that same block stuff like that that's a little different I'm saying but when you're in jail you don't know this [ __ ] I'm saying he just came out of nowhere and now because of the environment and the situation we bond together I'm saying and sometimes that bond be really strong because of the environment because of what we've gone through because of the the struggles and the adversities we face together and as that bond is like this yeah I'm saying but then it could change this like that with one coal I'm saying with one person saying oh he's no good because his big homie just did some other [ __ ] and and now we find I ain't no I'm not with all that night I remember me my son had a conversation about this cuz he did eight years and he never joined a gang and he said simply because he said you know a lot of people wanted him to join but he said well if I were to join first and they were do send me on a whole bunch of missions they didn't want to do themselves and now I have a whole bunch more years and now I'm just caught up in the system my whole life now I wanted to go home so him and you know my other friend Omar you know they became real close yeah and they just watch each other's back and that was the other day yeah yeah it does basically on all the same laws like yeah I mean I have a lot of good brothers that I bonded with when I was in there and we didn't join on game but we move like a game I'm saying like you [ __ ] we're having [ __ ] me and we just gonna roll out and a lot of times mom [ __ ] anyone no piece of that and they don't and you know it didn't even matter like colors like you mean I got brothers that's black I got published that's brown I got brothers that's whatever I'm saying but also in jail like any Asian brothers I don't keep like yeah I'm saying like when the Asian blood would come across because I there's not a lot of them throughout the state whatever but when we there we together I'm saying and sometimes you know a lot of these brothers don't know how to be English they come from China or whatever but even we can't really connect on that level but because we're Asian I'm gonna look out for you ain't nobody gonna Punk out like I'm saying and nobody gonna rob him and nobody gonna take nothing from him he gonna get everything he's supposed to get and I sit like I'm saying and I would I would go off of that because you know you know I mean that's my people losing
