It may seem like a provocative title, but it's true inasmuch as the biggest thing that made Hong Kong special is gone now.

Fast forward a couple decades, and it'll be just another mainland city, albeit one that has white lines instead of yellow down the middle of the roads, cars driving on the left like in Australia or Japan, and traditional characters instead of simplified on a lot of signs... that is, if Beijing even consents to let them keep those things.

The destruction of the ccp will not only be a huge milestone for the chinese people, but also for humanity as a whole. It would demonstrate that they still have the ability to do what's just, even if it's an inconvenience.

This was really sad to watch. I can not believe that the world is sitting by and letting it happen.

The West probably can't save Hong Kong, but we can threaten to openly endorse Taiwan's independence if they continue their aggression. I don't want to start a war with China, but if what they do in HK works, it will embolden them to take back Taiwan by force too.

Hong Kong is one of my favorite places in the entire world and a lot of you have been asking me to do an update on what's happening there we all know what happened in the previous protests and I covered it the bravery of the protesters standing up to a massive oppressive giant just on their border but something more alarming has happened something terrifying that could spell the end of Hong Kong one of the freest places in the world Hong Kong has topped the world and personal and economic freedoms for a good chunk of its history even when it was handed back to the repressive Chinese government in 1997 although there was an agreement that Hong Kong would more or less stay as a sovereign state until 2047 where it would go back to full Chinese rule the Chinese Communist Party under the leadership of Xi Jingping has not tolerated that agreement there have been multiple massive protests when Beijing is tried to exert its influence over the populace that has gotten used to the freedom of speech elections a fair judicial system great international relations and a real role model for an open system Beijing has tried to institute different laws like the one that sparked last year's movement a proposed extradition law that would make anyone who had committed a perceived crime in mainland China be extradited from Hong Kong back to China to face a 99 percent conviction rate in a very corrupted judicial system there China's overplayed their hand with a brutal crackdown on millions of protesters in Hong Kong and the protesters got full media attention worldwide Hong Kong stopped being a small Free Asian Territory and became the bastion of democracy and freedom that really resonated with the rest of the freedom-loving world to watch the city-state take to the streets in millions with no military backing to face down an oppressive dictatorship right on his border that literally hired mafia thugs to go to Hong Kong and brutalize protesters was admirable the leadership of Hong Kong Carrie Lam had been notoriously close to the chairman Xi Jinping in mainland China whether by choice or not in the Communist Party of China was allowed to use serious force to quell protesters and violence teargas arrests cover-ups and other nasty techniques the majority of Hong Kongers didn't support Beijing or the CCP they actually won most of the seats in parliament not only that but one of their five demands were met the extradition bill that would send people back to mainland China for trial it was killed stopped dead in his tracks the protesters had won this is a major victory for Hong Kong people and the rest of the world who had been following it enter coronavirus the protest slowed down but the five demands of the protesters never stopped there were still four demands left and here they are to be able to independently investigate Hong Kong police misconduct and brutality free and drop the charges of arrested protesters total recall of the six one two riot claim meaning that protests would no longer be called riots and most importantly genuine universal suffrage or the right to vote however Xi Jingping in the Communist Party of China wasn't going to roll over the way the Communist Party of China works is on utter control silencing opponents intimidation and never losing face imagine trying to sell your own citizens on your oppressive and brutal government rule when you can't even get these protesters under control in your own territory it's easy for the CCP to make an enemy out of the USA or Japan but when millions of your own residents in your own territory are taken to the streets burning images of the leader of China the Chinese flag and standing up to absolute police brutality it isn't a good look for the regime it makes you look weak in China does not like to look weak the protests are back in a full force and this is because and it breaks my heart to say this I think this is the end of Hong Kong and here's why there's a new law the new laws will be annexed into Hong Kong's mini Constitution known as basic law outlawing secession subversion and terrorism and providing for the stationing of mainland national security agencies in the city that intention is raising fears in Hong Kong that Chinese intelligence agents and police will not only be based in the city but have formal enforcement power for the first time the draft also states that Hong Kong's judicial organs along with its government and legislature must effectively prevent stop and punished acts endangering national security the problem is and that might sound not too bad is that national security according to the Communist Party of China means that anyone critical of the government in China can be deemed a national security threat or a terrorist and be arrested Hong Kong has consistently been one of the freest places in the world surpassing even the US and northern European countries but this new law would remove any protections the citizens of Hong Kong had previously anyone a bookseller a dissident a religious freedom activist a student who values democracy anyone could be arrested by the Communist Party of China in Hong Kong you can see how that effectively means that Hong Kong will just be another city of mainland China maybe with some more open economic principles the Hong Kong police during these protests are much more efficient this time methodically arresting student protesters as young as middle schoolers first aid medics that are trying to help injured people organizers of protests in all areas around Hong Kong not only that but pro-democracy lawmakers were even forcefully removed from Parliament when they tried to speak out against a new law that makes it illegal and punishable with jail time if you mock the national anthem of China the unarmed protesters are still out in droves and it looks as if there's no hope to preserve their freedoms but one thing we can derive from their courageous struggle is that we must not allow the Communist Party of China to influence the rest of the world Taiwan is woken up to the threat they've elected a pro-independence leader and they have every right to do so despite China's threats Hong Kongers are still bravely on the front lines trying to stave off one of the most powerful evil and corrupt leadership in history the law will probably pass and I'll have to say goodbye to Hong Kong probably my favorite place in the entire world my friends are leaving as many of them have been publicly critical of the Chinese government if I were to go to Hong Kong now after the law passes I would suffer the same fate as anyone who has spoken out against the Chinese Communist Party you wouldn't see me anymore I pray that the protesters don't give up and I pray that the world pays full attention to what the world would look like with unfettered Chinese Communist Party influence wake up an incredibly important tool for the Hong Kong protesters right now is to make sure that their identity is hidden and that the CCP the to Communist Party of China is not monitoring what they do and it can't get a pinpoint on location and information about them the Hong Kong protesters use VPNs to do this and VPNs hide your internet identity and make sure no one is snooping in what you're doing I use a VPN as well when I go to different countries or actually even in my home country just to make sure if I'm on unsecured Wi-Fi that people can't see what I'm doing or get sensitive information like credit card data and things like that that being said there's also lots of cool uses for VPNs as well such as getting past region locks the region locks are when a certain streaming website or a Content website only shows things specific to that country so for example if you use a VPN to go on to Disney Plus and you go into the UK server the England server you can actually see the Han Solo movie where it's not available in America yet if you're on the American Disney Plus store and on the flipside like frozen to for example if you go on the American servers or you're in America you can actually watch it on Disney Plus but if you're not in America or have an American IP you'll have to use a VPN let's say for example you're in England you're not gonna be able to Opera's into on Disney Plus without a VPN so there's many other applications for this but I really like using a VPN to get past region lock so I can see different content on Netflix and all kinds of other streaming services so I can actually watch what I want to watch don't forget to go to Nord VPN comm slash laowai 86 not only will you get 70% off of a three-year plan but if you use the code laowai 86 you'll actually get a free month to try it out for yourself and also you'll be supporting the channel so thank you so much don't forget Nord VPN comm / laowai 86 use the code laowai 86
