Chess, but I sawed the board in half

what if we took a chess board and just sought it in half obviously this half doesn't have a king to Checkmate so let's just throw it away what are we left with well this is Demi chess if you looked at the Wikipedia page in my last couple of videos you may have noticed this rectangular board near the top I didn't include it in my initial mini chess video because I thought it deserved a video of its own Demi chess is played on a 4x8 board and is quite literally just the right half of a normal board pawns can still move two squares castling is still legal and you can even still promote to a queen once again I challenged my Discord mod toggled to a best of two to see how Demi chess actually plays and hey if you haven't subscribed yet I'd really appreciate it also leaving a like and comment with this move it might make sense to block off the light squares or excuse me the dark squares because black only has a dark Square Bishop uh we could maybe go for this and take with the Rook let's try that he doesn't take we could push get some space maybe he's kind of lucky himself in a little bit yeah let's just push this night move threatens this but I can just defend I could do it this way too I'm not sure if I want to tie oh I'm kind of I'm blocking myself in too a little bit it might make more sense to defend with Bishop than do something like this I think I like that I want to uh make sure my Bishop can move around a bit yeah looks like he's doing a similar thing okay so let's do this oh interesting so it's not so simple I think I might have to take then I can't take back because the Knight also defends I guess I could take back now it's also pinned to the Pawn so we'd have to probably go here but I think the Knight might be stronger than the bishop given the limited mobility and the fact that there's only one of them so okay we're trading off pieces quite a bit let's we could go after this Pawn potentially dangerous though you could do this then maybe get this going next after he pushes let's try this and staying on the light square is probably a good call here okay he defends it I can go maybe here he can attack me and then yeah I'm basically trapped in that situation not quite but close he doesn't have a great way of getting at this Pawn I don't think he really can actually um let's Castle castling is actually illegal he I have to be careful he could easily do this okay he pushes we can take and then check could also go here with the Rook but then pushing would be kind of dangerous so let's just take he might Castle as well here nope okay so let's do this check we have another check but I don't know if it's very good if he goes back here we have a discovery check which could be good we have fork and he can't even get in he could go here I guess so that's let's see this here yeah that's not ideal for me I'm still completely defended though wow this is actually close position let's do this uh and then we can go here right after he could check me but I could just get out of the way he pins to my Rook I could find the check now and he actually I think this wins The Rook oh not necessarily I guess I missed that square uh I have this with check though so I win at least one of the pieces I believe okay no more checks so we have to take this might end up being a draw I don't know if I can close this out I should be fine let's go after this Pawn I don't see us getting trapped but it's possible like this check would trap us I don't know I almost want to go here he actually can't uh he can get here okay we have some opposition sort of he can get here which is's probably going to do it I can find this check he's not going to okay I also can't take the pawn though he can't get in here because of this so maybe just this move he's limited to this move only he finds it so I get the pawn now he still has that square I don't have any checks now he can go okay he can go there I can keep self defended he can't get into here so let's do this now we have this let's try that maybe then maybe that this is check everything's still defended he has to maybe go here he doesn't have to he does this is actually really interesting maybe this move uh this will give up a pawn or I can push it yeah let's push I think we can just keep pushing all the way I don't believe that that's stalemate okay let's promote okay so let's take uh be a little bit careful not the stalemate all right and we just had a rule check and you are allowed to promote to Queens in this one okay let's okay I think he has plenty of squares yeah okay so let promote to a queen now check and check and mate all right cool now I'm going to get a chance to play with the black pieces to see if it's any harder he starts with a knight move maybe this uh I want to keep my pawns on light squares looks like he might be realizing that as well maybe this and then this Castle's already okay we can still go for this I think he backs up all the way um I might not want to push this quite yet then so maybe this first okay smart move I think uh we can go here keeps everything defended I'm not not sure how much I like it okay I don't think I want to take let's just Castle both these are still defended this Pawn importantly defending twice the Rooks are the Rooks are lined up uh this capture now attacks this he can get in here uh but he's also threatening the same thing to me so uh maybe this he gets the pawn back after this but I think I might like that position oh he just takes right away um so after takes takes takes it'll be interesting let's take so he gets the pawn back and we're going to have a very oh what is that move okay uh my Bishop isn't pinned or anything so let's just back it up this Pawn still defended could maybe find something with the Knight but I'm not sure okay he pushes um still defended we could go after that maybe I don't know how I feel about that not as clearcut as I was hoping uh maybe take with Pawn I have to be careful about this check I might just I might just take so takes back I push he has he doesn't have this check so I think I just push then I can take back and take back the extra Pawn might be a problem let's go I shouldn't push let's go maybe this I think he wins the pawn back after that though maybe this then Retreat after this I think okay we could even try that this is almost kind of mate if I push the pawn we could attack The Rook though I didn't even see that let's do that Rook could maybe go there okay uh of course the rook's defended I didn't even think about that but so is our Pawn so maybe this oh but after the pawn pushes it's no longer pinned but I think that's okay because I just take okay interesting um I can't really go after this I can go here I think I think I like that move and then this after oh but that drops the pawn yeah that's the draw so probably not that okay um so that's no longer forcing we have this you can still go back we could probably attack the pawn the king could just go back yeah all this kind of runs into that problem my King's also kind of out in the open can't cross here I could go here actually allow my king to pass I think I like that blcks off this well blocks it off once again I suppose then I can cross over here safely so after this he has that and I can't I can take actually so that's fine let's go here okay let's go here now that would work um we could also do this I think I like that uh that gives us a bishop and pawn okay well I have this check but I don't know if I like my odds there good chances any I don't know okay he doesn't take we have this check that's close to mate but not check and then that that oh we have this still not mate maybe go after his Rook now but we have to be careful so there's this back to here then we push okay he's looking for a check W I actually think if I went here that would be mate uh yeah wow that's crazy or I could block never mind but really close wow tough position for sure okay let's check we might have to go for Perpetual here so okay so check takes here takes here he can go there and can I go here he goes here that's winning for him I can do this maybe what's this move get me nothing okay well I think I just go for Perpetual here I don't see a way to win he doesn't want it apparently uh is this better for me I should probably recalculate so check takes takes here here he can go there I think it's the same situation yeah so let's just check cool all right so hope you guys enjoyed this video Demi chess is very cramped just like the mini chess games but it
