okay sure all cart Sedaka's let's I remember you back before you were married to Dino and and you guys and what you've done it's just amazing in this dino and I were talking about this book him restoration 101 treasured hymns with devotions and that's what caught my eye the devotional side and he was telling me you know that you really did a lot of that so it explained to me explain to me from your heart what was going on with this book why did you do this well you know read a lot of different devotionals and I just thought how awesome it would be to put the hymns which we want to restore to the church with a little bit of history about the author who they were and why they wrote the song that they wrote or as many wrote many well let's pick one I want to take okay page 141 you ready 140 141 the old rugged cross are you ready oh so tell me the story of the old rugged cross well of course we have the lyrics and the music by George Bernard Wright and he was born in 1873 but he didn't die till 1958 and I was already born then yeah which he had a lot of time to write well let's talk about that let's see the old rugged cross was birthed from a tribulation in George's life and that brought him great suffering leading him to identify with the suffering of Christ and bringing a heightened experienced awareness of the cross where Jesus suffered or his suffering occurred in George Bernards own words the inspiration came to me one day in 1913 when I was staying in I'll be on Michigan I began to write about the old rugged cross the words that I first wrote were imperfect the words of the finished him were put into my heart in answer to my own need surely after it was introduced at special meetings in a Pokagon Michigan Lu Michigan people will know this I didn't this is good On June 7th 1913 so he did not write this wonderful and special song until near close to the ending of his life so the first occasion where it was heard outside of the church was at was in Michigan and was at the Chicago evangelistic Institute where it was introduced before a large convention as we're about to have cross the street from this church with brother Copeland and it became extremely popular throughout the country Bernards life was dedicated to Christ Jesus our Lord pored through him words that come from the revelation of God's Word and the Bible to it to enlighten the people of God through this song now so many had been written we have a prayer after that but on a hill for a far away stood an old rugged cross the emblem of suffering and shame how I loved that old cross where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinner's was slain now this man waited until it pierced his heart to understand the meaning in the need of this song right so many did that and so many were not just ministers of music but they were ministers of the gospel and they preached and they knew what they wanted to express through each song and so that's what I wanted to write I wanted to hear of why they wrote the song but I also wanted to know their heart for the song and why did you want to know their heart well because you don't want to put anything out there that doesn't have the heart of God and the very heart of God that's what caused these words to come together the stanzas and you know and the lines that came together were so awesome I don't know how Fanny Crosby wrote thousands only that she stayed in the word right and that she she listened to life because her sight was not there but her ears were attuned to everything around her mightily passionately so she listened and then she would feel the Word of God right with her fingers and then take that together that's an amazing amazing thing about eight cuz you know I kind of forgot about Fanny Crosby be blind in heaven but she did have good ears here's the he understood the word voice of the Lord - as the word what is this what does this project done for you as you went through you and II know you guys put this together what did that what happened with you during this process did you well for me I spent months on my knees in prayer asking the Lord to shall be the truth of what was happening here to show me through the word and then we post the word the very first thing after we tell you who wrote or who did the music then the Word of God that relates yes to the song and then at the end we put a prayer there and that was right out of my home after I had studied and written I just prayed it would be a generic more a little more generic prayer than I normally would pray but for those who are reading who are going through the devotions I wanted them to understand God's Word having been put into heavenly sunlight right why would somebody write about sunlight because the Son of God is the sunlight he is the light of the world and without him there would be no light right you know the light that was from God and the Spirit of God and the Son of God came through the Son of God what is it when someone gets this book and I believe they're people I know this will strike a chord with a lot of people yeah what do you want what is it your desire when people read this what does he want them to get from it well personally I would like for them to see the devotions correlate the now devotion correlate with the song that was written so long ago so many of these authors came from even back in the 1800s so that they would thumb through and find the haven of rest and they would find peace and rest through reading the story and hearing the verses of the song I also am praying the prayer of salvation is all through this if they don't know Jesus as their Savior we want them to be saved if they know the Lord we want them to be transformed and we want this music to put the Word of God in their hearts because that's that's what so much is missing now not having the hymns in church there's so much of the word in every one of these precious hymns right oh they were their treasure because and that's what we named him restoration treasured hims because they as a little child I grew up on these songs and words coming you know my father our father my my pastor is my brother right now and I treasure him and I treasured we treasured our father who was a minister of the gospel for 55 years and our mom our mom was the teacher right in the Bible class I was talking about your father because it word has it your father's Church he had a lot of the great revivalists come through there oh yes he did tell me a story I hadn't heard before I'm not sure what you haven't heard but I will tell you this our church had the it had the largest auditorium in the city of Lubbock Texas right out in the Wild West Panhandle and he invited singers to come through preachers to come through that we're having Crusades our dad did the music because he was a great singer had so much of the word in him and he would sing songs he had written he wrote many songs and one my mom wrote the lyrics he wrote the music to heaven happy home above heaven land of peace and love oh it makes me feel like traveling home then he wrote when I shake your hand way beyond the starry sky there will be no pain there would be no tear drops in your eyes will be so happy there will sit down I'll sit down by your side we'll talk a million years beyond the Great Divide that divide is still with us but he's gone on but he saw through the portals and he saw the Son of God my father was so full of faith I I put a story in here about him so when my dad was 19 years old he was in a swing band you know played the guitar and sang country and swing music Texas swing right and so 19 years old they had a terrible drought in Oklahoma my father and my grandfather farmed they raised the crops he had three sisters older three sisters younger and his precious mom you know my grandma and and the girls were never allowed to come out the door and go and farm pick anything do anything so he and his father totally farmed well his dad got really disturbed because of this drought he had the seed to put in the ground they had done that they planted but there was no water so the seed were not being German ated they were not coming up you know and at 19 he watched his father and he took up chewing tobacco then he took up smoking and it was causing him to cough and become sick he became ill through the use of that old tobacco he corrode so my father went out it was such a heated drought and he lay on the cellar door trying to feel any breeze that would pass by and as he lay there he looked up at the stars and he contemplated in he said God if there is a God I have need I need you to send a rain that will soak this ground where it'll be standing in every low spot when I wake up tomorrow and that my dad will throw that tobacco out and stop using it and smoking he said Lord if you do that I will believe you forever I will trust you my faith will be in you but Lord if you don't know he's 19 never been to church but Lord if you don't I'll never believe you I'll never trust you and I'll know you're not even there as I went inside put his head on the windowsill to try to get some air he stayed right there through the night and then the first thing that he heard in the morning was his father's voice on the back porch he slept in an out porch so it was cooler and he heard his father's voice say to my grandmother to his wife Gertrude Gertrude you know what I think this tobacco is killing me as he coughed and he said you know what never go to smoke or chew tobacco again and he threw it on the ground and then he said but look look Gertrude look every low spots filled with water our crops are going to make it everything is going to come up that we planted and we'll have returned seed for next year well praise God he said well there the Lord did everything that this'll nineteen year old guy had asked for and he looked out that window and everywhere he could see was water it soaked the ground and he said lord I know you are or this is not a happenstance I know it was you god I'm going to have faith in you and believe in you for the rest of my days and he called the guys together at the the band members he said I'm so sorry that I will no longer be with you he said I'm gonna do music for the Lord and if you want to join me you can become a Christian I'm going to church tonight let's go to church and he went to church he got saved he began to preach the gospel Wow just as soon as he could and as soon as he could read the word and hide it in his heart he began to preach and and from that time 55 years he preached the Word of God and he was the Pentecostal young people's association leader and preached to kids to young kids to young people all over that area and he went and heard a little Indian girl preacher who got saved in Ann Arbor service hmm if you don't know what Ann Arbor is it's a like a thatched roof with no walls just posts and when she got saved there she had a Bible at home that had no Genesis and no no Exodus Leviticus numbers of Revelation you know it just had pieces and parts so she went to work on the word her father drove her in an old a very old car it got with patched back then patched tires and he would bring patches with him because if they hit something or the tire started to go down he would find the air somewhere and patch it up get her back home before school the next day right so those things were what stories I know of the ministry and how your ministry can start how you can read devotionals and read the Word of God and be led to the word and how the songs of the Lord if you're young you can listen to the songs of the Lord Jesus and get enough of the word in your heart that you can start to minister and it doesn't matter if you become a minister or a lay minister you just start to speak to people and I'm not a minister but I'm late good fooled me lay minister of a lay minister this week a young man came to to work in our home on some changing out some electrical things mm-hmm and I asked him I said do you know Jesus as your Savior you're a really nice young man he said no ma'am I don't I said would you like to he said well I've been to a number of churches than I've thought about it but I never really found you know what I thought would be my church I said Oh would you like to come to our church and meet Jesus and he said or I can lead you now he said I'd like to come to your church and see what your church is about mmm that's great and I said well please do and I'll meet you at the door just tell me you're coming and you can sit with us and you know here the minister preached so those things are things that were in my heart yeah when I began to write that's great thus the the stories of older folks my father's ministry I opened to I surrender all and that is what he did when the Lord I mean he had not been in church he'd been in swing band at different places they went and that was not what his heart desired and he knew it so he heard about God but he didn't know if he was real he prayed to him and the Lord heard his prayer all answered his prayer the Lord heard that prayer and the prayer for salvation just like he can for you I don't know who you are but he can hear your prayer all you have to say is Lord Jesus come into my heart I've sinned against you and I want you to be my lord I want you to direct the rest of my life and show me the path you planned for me from the beginning show me exactly what you want me to do and I'll be there with you to do it and you'll be there with me to show the way in Jesus name now if you prayed that prayer you found the Lord and all you have to do is go get a Bible open it and start to read and then find a Bible believing Church one that teaches you the truth the Word of God is the truth you want to know the truth in life go to the word that's where the truth is that's right and you'll be a happy person and a blessed person amen amen that's good work show thank well thank you
