foreign [Laughter] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Laughter] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] welcome back to outdoors with the Morgans my glasses are all fogged up from the air conditioning in the skid loader another hot and muggy one today but I think yeah I'm pretty sure today's the last day at least for now tomorrow uh we're supposed to get some thunderstorms maybe but next week it looks like it's in the 70s I was just talking to Melissa the other day I said you know it's funny all winter long everybody says I can't wait till spring I can't wait till summer and then when we finally get a few hot days everyone myself included can't wait till fall really it is my favorite time of year I don't want to wish summer away but uh I do like the fall but anyway I was just down at the pond and I fixed up that trail in front of the pond what had happened was uh we had a couple real bad thunderstorms and all the water from the whole way up here at the Woodyard will go all the way down that trail and I had a big pile of dirt right there and in the turn the water just followed that turn and went all the way down in front of the pond I had some big ruts in there and I couldn't get the mower down there to get to my mom's last time I had to run the road all the way around so I got that fixed up and that pile of dirt by the way was uh that was from the last time that I cleaned out the back of the pond and it was mostly like silt and sediment it actually looked like pretty decent soil but it was everything that washes into the back of the pond during heavy rains I even found an old boot in there some old mason jars all kind of stuff floats down that little stream but I got that taken care of next on the agenda I need to take some slabs down to the burn pit we have been putting boxes in our burn pit since uh Eva's graduation party but in that burn pit is a bunch of uh fireworks that that we never lit uh if you remember I got whacked in the leg with a mortar we didn't light them all at the end and then it rained on them and I just cleaned everything up and put them in the burn pit so there's still some hot fireworks in there and you would be amazed at how long they can last in there I mean one year probably the first of August so at least a month five or six heavy rainfalls between the fourth July and August and I still had stuff going off so I'm going to take the excavator down kind of cream everything into a pile and then put some slabs on there and then uh once I accumulate a few more slabs I'll put them on top and then we'll light that pile up sometime in the next week or two but I want to have some cover on top of it because those mortars in there could be heading anywhere [Music] [Music] all right next up I'm going to take this uh firewood crate out in the woods I've got the uh Split Force splitter out there in the little clearing if it doesn't rain too much tomorrow I will uh cut and split some firewood and fill this up I can carry it out with the tractor empty but I would never be able to carry it back full with the tractor I'll have to get it with the skid loader holds almost a half a cord and plus the crate itself is very heavy the frame is all made out of white oak and the rest is sassafras if you didn't see that last video I showed uh oh I made it so this wood crate what I'm going to use it for is this we have people stop all the time for small quantities of firewood for their outdoor fire pit for solo stoves Brios all that kind of stuff sometimes it's a trunk full sometimes it's just bundle firewood and they like stuff that's split smaller so I'd kind of like to gear up for that for next summer and if you want to do that you know you need to be cutting and splitting this year for next summer because what happens now is people will call or they'll stop over and we're running down to the wood shed to get a little bit of firewood and I just need to keep some up by the house for uh those types of people that come over something else I wanted to mention if you've been paying attention the last couple weeks two weeks I think I uploaded four videos each week Tuesday Thursday Saturday and Sunday and I'm going to do my best to stick to that schedule in the past I uploaded more often than that sometimes not all the time it was kind of all over the place but I will publish long form videos on those four days at 8 A.M each day and I'm going to try my best to stick with that for me I kind of like it because like yesterday's video for example on building that firewood crate it was one whole video getting the trees out of the woods like I said sawing them building it all in one video longer videos like that will be on Saturdays and Sundays the ones on Tuesdays and Thursday will probably be a little bit shorter because people don't have as much time and I think that should work out pretty good now I will occasionally drop a short in maybe a couple week on Monday Wednesday Friday John Wilson I'm just warning you right now because I know you hate shorts you let me know every time I publish one uh but that's kind of the plan and coming up soon probably one night a week uh we'll probably do a live I'm kind of setting up a little place in the building that'll be real nice to have alive so we'll do that as well but yeah you need to stick to a schedule I think that's that's what the plan is and uh I think it'll make for better videos and more complete videos I guess I guess I could say instead of sawing something in one video or getting logs out of the woods do it all in one video and kind of show what I'm making out of it or if it's a little dirt digging project everything in one video so that's the plan for that I'm moving along pretty good this evening and It's Not Dark Yet so I think I'm gonna get the skid loader and I'll come out here I've got the grapple sitting right there I'll put the grapple on it clean all this stuff up that didn't burn I'll take it down to my big stump pile down there stump and debris pile take some of these uh Ash what's left put in this hole backfill this and get this area grated up I don't know if I'll finish all that tonight but should be close [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] good timing I don't know if you can hear the thunder off in the distance but uh we've got some rain coming but yeah this looks much better right in here is where that big red oak stump was that I dug out I'll probably have to add a little dirt to this later on I'll just keep running it in and uh speaking of stumps right there in the center of where that burn pile was I found one I hit it hard you probably noticed I slowed down quite a bit after that but I got it rooted out of there I still have to get this maple tree down it's dead got that one hung up in there it's ugly it really is I'm gonna I need to get like a rope over top of it and just yank that thing down because it doesn't matter if I cut it down if I try pushing it with the excavator what's going to happen is that'll break off up there fall straight down and then it'll fall somewhere and I don't know where that somewhere is so I still need to get that down I keep hoping one of these storms it'll come down so once I get that out of there I can bring the tractor out with the rake and a land plane and get this all shaped up real nice and get it seated I'd like to do that towards the uh towards the end of August early September August isn't the best time to plant around here but anyway that's it for now I will report back tomorrow morning all right we had a whole bunch of rain this morning for probably four or five hours starting to straighten up now I'm headed over to uh neighbor cliffs with a post hole digger and a barrel for some perk tests that they're going to do on Monday later on today I'll get some water over here and they should be good to go [Music] now I have another Barrel out in the woods somewhere think I remember where it's at I'm not sure if I can get there from here or not but uh we'll see [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] this one has been out here since we bought this property which was four years ago now got more trees down over there all right we'll get turned around and uh head back [Music] [Music] later on today or maybe tomorrow if it dries up a little bit I'll take the skid loader and my water tank down to the pond and fill it up with water then I'll come up here and fill these barrels up for the perk test Cliff's daughter and son-in-law are going to be building a house and around here one of the first steps is the pit and perk test you can see right here I dug a pit test probably a month month and a half ago I don't even know when it was one here one over there and then there's six holes where the flags are you need to dig those with a regular post hole digger for the perk test they'll fill them with water and the sewage enforcement officer monitors how fast or how slow the water drains out of the holes to determine how big of a septic system that you can put in here conventional system around here I don't even know if anyone's allowed to do those anymore and even sand Mounds are getting kind of rare there's all kind of crazy systems out there now that I'm not familiar with but uh they'll be able to put something in here thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign foreign foreign all right I'm out here in the woods splitting a little firewood and starting to fill up my uh firewood crate but it is just a glorious evening just beautiful the humidity is just about gone the other day when I was building this uh firewood crate it was probably 92 degrees and very very humid and I had a bunch of water with me and in the morning I was down in the woods getting some white oak logs out it was pretty cool back in the woods and then in the afternoon I was putting this crate together and I felt fine but that evening Melissa and I went to see a movie and I just didn't feel great and I know it was because of the heat we're just not I'm just not used to it I don't like the heat I've mentioned that before but by the way uh we saw Oppenheimer and I don't know if any of you have seen it or not I'm saying it's a swing and a miss uh I wasn't a big fan of the movie maybe because I've read about him before but it was long three hours long and if it's a good three hours that's okay but I think he could have skipped the whole first hour of the movie and been fine and it just kind of jumped all over the place I don't know a lot of people have been speaking very highly of it wasn't for me worst movie I ever saw it wasn't this bad was cast away oh man I'm telling you I've talked about that before me and a friend of mine argue about that movie Castaway I thought it was some sort of social experiment to see how long people would actually sit in the theater and uh I couldn't stand that movie but anyway the topic of today's video I may have changed my opinion about something you know we hear about the younger generation I sound like an old guy now the Millennials that they call them they talk about how expensive it is today and how hard it is to buy your first home and you know just everything costs much so the topic of today's video now I think I may have changed my opinion about something you know we always hear about the younger generation I sound like an old guy now uh the Millennials talk about how expensive things are how hard it is to get ahead you know it's nearly impossible to buy your first home and for years I didn't think much of it because it was very difficult for Melissa and I when we first got started and I'm sure it was for most of you as well now I know most of the people watch our channel are probably you know there's exceptions but about 10 years younger than us and up that's about the age of the audience that watches our Channel and I know it was hard for most of us some people had it pretty easy but the majority of us probably started off with not much at all including Melissa and I we had nothing uh I didn't have paid vacation from a job until I was about 12 years ago when I got into oil and gas if you didn't work you didn't get paid I always had a side job at least one if not two and we just kind of scraped and pod our way to get to where we were at today so then you hear younger people say how tough it is and you think uh we went through the same thing you have no idea how hard it was but then you start looking around and you know over the years wages have gone up but I don't think anywhere near as much as the price of housing is there's a new housing plan out the road and I drove by it the other day and I was just kind of running some numbers in my head and uh there's a farm out there it was 70 acres and they're going to put 70 units on those 70 Acres now granted keep in mind they're not going to be one acre lots between the roads the cul-de-sacs the Green Space what whatever they're probably going to end up third acre lots and there's actually going to be a few duplexes and maybe even a couple quads yeah where they put four houses in one so anyway I was doing the math the developer paid 1.4 million dollars for that property about twenty thousand dollars an acre which really isn't too bad of a deal for around here so right there 70 units you got 20 grand an acre okay twenty thousand dollars a unit I should say for the land they're going to have probably three million dollars in all the dirt that they moved putting water and sewer in they've got to do some Road improvements so that right there is another forty thousand dollars per unit before you build anything there's sixty thousand dollars and the homes that they're going to build they're nothing real fancy like most of the other ones are building around here these are going to be like some patio homes and things like that and they're going to start in the low to mid 400 000 range so they're gonna be you know half a million dollars basically and that's not a whole lot of house and what got me thinking about this was you know Cliff's uh daughter and son-in-law getting ready to build a house and they have both have good jobs but to build a house where you need a well and a septic and all that around here you really can't build much anymore for probably under half a million dollars unless you do most of it yourself or have family and friends that can really help you a bunch but yeah I talked to a builder about it the other day and like so he's saying he is I can't build a house you know a Wells ten eleven thousand dollars now a septic some of these septic systems around here 30 40 50 000 and uh it wasn't like that when when we started off it's just uh I think they may be right it may be more difficult something else that I don't understand and this is a little off subject where we live here from that when I was a kid there was probably one tenth of the population in this area as there is today but yet property taxes keep going up we didn't build any New Roads or anything we still have to maintain the same roads but somehow they are able to do it way back then with one tenth the population one-tenth the tax base was able to maintain everything but property taxes keep going up I don't like property taxes I don't like really any taxes I don't think any of us do but the property tax thing is really kind of a thorn in my side not for us we're okay but what I don't like about it is say you have an elderly couple that retired and they think they have enough money to get to the Finish Line well then a bunch of people start building around them driving up their property values which then drives up their property taxes and they end up getting chased out of their own home I don't like that but I don't think you can do much about it but looking at it now if you look at wages and what people make and the opportunities that are out there and what things cost I don't see an end in sight the Millennials just may be right it may be more difficult today now I don't think many of them uh work two and three jobs like we all did you know what I mean when I say two or three jobs a real job and a side job and another side job we're always hustling always trying to do something I think a lot of people just want to you know work 30 or 40 hours a week and expect the world but generally speaking it may be it may be harder today than it was when when we started I don't know if you feel like it let me know in the comments what you paid for your first house and what an average house sells for in your area that'd be pretty interesting to see but before we wrap this up I have a little announcement daughter Eva just published her second video and you got to check it out it's going to be a banger Eva is reviewing both the GMC and the super duty and I have no idea what she's talking about I have no idea what she's looking at but she's been over there going over those two two trucks for hours so it should be an entertaining video I'll put a link to her video in the description in a pin comment as well so go check that out but I think that's about it for today's video appreciate you all being here and I will catch you on the next one
