hello everyone is Jonathan here founder of the driving Academy and today I'm going to be showing you an exact step-by-step process on what you're gonna have to do if you want to pass a cab check in and start for a class a vehicle in an automatic now cap checking to start some people also call an air brake test this is gonna have to be something that you perfect when it comes to taking your road test if you're one of our students here at Driving Academy will actually give you different things like this a word-for-word script that will show you exactly what to say and rotor for you to pass the test but because you're not a student here you're just gonna follow along with the video here you'll kind of see exactly what we have going on and hopefully you'll learn something as well now the thing you have to understand about getting CDL license is the road test that you have to take in order to get that license is two and a half hours long and this is the first part of the test itself if you miss one of these items here you're failing and you're going home and we don't want that to happen that's why we understand people make mistakes sometimes and they get nervous during tests and that's why we created what we call a guaranteed training course this is where we give you over a hundred hours of training to get to prepare for the road test plus we're gonna give you unlimited tries at the test that's really good for those people who are bad test takers I need some time to actually get rockin and rollin and get comfortable so that means you keep going until you pass and you never have to pay anything extra it's almost like an all-inclusive we're probably the only school around that can actually do that so if you're interested give us a call I don't wait five to five three six zero nine so now let's get right into the actual cap check and then start so because we're doing a cap check insert an air brake test on a class a vehicle that is automatic it's gonna be a little bit different than the stick shift version if you are driving a stick shift make sure you check out one of the other videos on this channel because we have a very very extensive video on class a stick shift vehicles that being said the first thing we're gonna have to do is take the key with us and get out of the vehicle because we're gonna have to chuck the wheels because this is not a stick shift vehicle we cannot put it into first gear to lock in the transmission to make sure we don't move so in this case we actually have to make sure we physically check the wheels so we don't move when we're testing out our brake system and why do I take the key because that's one of the major rules when it comes to doing your spec anytime you leave the vehicle when you're doing an inspection you must have the key with you or else it's an automatic fail so I'm gonna exit the vehicle now as I makes it in the vehicle I'm gonna make sure I have three points of contact three points of contact means two hands in one foot or two feet in one hand I'm gonna back out of the vehicle and I'm gonna Chuck the wheel all right now then I tuck the wheels I'm gonna be entering the vehicle again that again the keys still in my hands I'm gonna shut the door and perform a safe start so to perform a safe start what do you have to do you're gonna have to turn the key to the right position this is gonna give the computer time to speak to the engine itself but then we're going to make sure that we are in neutral okay and we're gonna make sure that the parking brakes are pulled out so it looks like whoever was in this vehicle before never pulled out the parking brakes good thing that those wheels are Chuck or else we would be moving right now so that's exactly why we want to make sure that we're performing a safe start because imagine that we turned on the engine and put it in Drive and we didn't even check the brakes we would be moving and we wouldn't even know it right so that's extremely important from there now that the safe start has been done time to actually turn on the engine itself and wait for the air pressure to build up to 120 to 145 psi so as you can see those there that air pressure gauge we have two of them one for the primary tank two for the secondary tank and we're going to be building up the air pressure and that's moving forward now if you want to speed up this process you can give it some gas and build up the RPMs but make sure you never go above about 1,200 rpms or so because that's just like overkill so you want to make sure that everything's going and you want to keep going until you hear a sneeze that didn't give that the anything is full and it's spitting out all the excess air that it does not keep going keep it below 200 and that was the sneeze that we were waiting for so now we know that our air tanks are under sinful so now it's time to shut the engine off turn the key off and the most important part is turn the key on now if you forget to turn this key back on you can kiss yourself goodbye because that key itself has failed more people than you know what to do it right that being said now we're ready for testing the brake system so what are we gonna do now we're gonna release the tractor and the trailer brakes and as we push these in air is actually leaving the air tanks filling up all of the air hoses and brake chambers itself and we're going to see if it has any leaks in the emergency brake system and that's pretty much what we're gonna do now so once we push this in the air pressure is gonna drop because like I said it's gonna leave from the air tank to all the hoses and the brake chambers and now once it stabilizes we're gonna have to wait one minute and we cannot lose more than three psi in that one minute so we're still waiting for it to stabilize all right so it's stabilized around 100 psi now we're gonna have to wait one minute and we cannot lose more than three psi so if you have your phone or stopwatch or watch whatever it is for the test you physically have to wait the full minute now to save you on some time we're gonna pretend that the minute just passed we're going to say okay my minute has a lapse and I did not lose more than three psi which tells you that there is no leaks in the emergency brake system right now what are we gonna have to do is check the service brake system so now we're gonna put our foot foot down for again hold it wait for the air pressure to stabilize we're gonna wait one minute again and we cannot lose more than four psi with our foot press down on the brake what are we doing now as we push our foot down on the brake we're filling up all the service air lines and that's if there is a hole there we're going to be losing air pressure and that's how we're gonna know if we have a problem in the air brake system so the minute has passed now and we did not lose more than four psi that we know that our emergency brakes are working or have no holes we know that our service breaks hoses lines and hoses lines and chambers have no holes as well now it's time to test the actual emergency warning system so I'm going to lose air pressure I'm by pressing on the brakes till I get to about 60 psi and at 60 psi I should hear a light and buzzer come on and that right there is your light and you can hear the buzzer because I now we are below 60 psi itself right that is a low air low air warning flight and buzzer so that's kind of warn us that we're getting low on air now remember that key situation if that key is off and you never turn that key on there is no buzzer anymore which means that you failed the test from there I'm going to turn the key on I just want to show you exactly what that key would have done from there what are we going to do this in a presser foot on the brake again did we get the 42 20 psi I was only looking at a parking brake we want to make sure the person brakes pop out between 30 and 20 psi so give us some nice ones and we're looking at our parking brake the entire time now it's very important that you do not touch the brakes and that they both pop out if only one pops out keep pumping until the other one pops out itself right and that has concluded the first part of the cap check engine start which is pretty much the air brake test portion of it now what do we have to do is take the key out again which means I'm leaving the vehicle and now I have to remove the wheel Chuck's so I'll be right back remember your three points of contact and remember the key in your hand all right so now the wheel trucks have been removed it's time to perform another safe start so what are we gonna do for a stiff start turn the key to the on position wait a few seconds that the dashboard and computer start waking up a little bit make sure we're neutral and confirm that the parking brakes have been pulled out now that buzzer is going to be on because we're those 60 psi so now we're gonna start the engine build to 120 psi so now while this is building to 120 psi is a perfect time to do it in cabin section now to make it easier for you guys to do I'm just gonna give it gas until we get a buck 60 psi just something you guys don't have to worry about the sound that's happening we're gonna let that build off the bump 60 deer side the buzzer is gonna come off and that'll be able to run [Music] [Music] all right so now that you've noticed we've been now we're above 60 psi we're going to let the engine keep running to build all the weight so it's full and during this time is a perfect time to do an in-cab inspection now the in-cab inspection it's almost like the pre-trip inspection that we do outside but we're just going to be doing it on the inside of the vehicle itself now when it comes to this inspection there is no particular order that you must go in we said we're on our script have an order that goes with our truck your truck might be a little bit different so you want to go with whatever order that feels safe for you so for instance first thing we're going to do is they're steam wheel our steering wheel cannot have more than two inches of play in it that means that it's not too loose we're going to talk about our horns our horns are working as you can see air horn and electric horn now we're gonna go to our lights our lights left turn signals working right turn signals working four-way flashers are working headlights and high beams are working so let's go to our gauges these are a few different gauges that we have to talk about we got our water temperature games right now it's operating properly around 140 degrees we got our oil pressure it is operating properly around 37 degrees 37 psi from here we're going to have our volt meter our volt meter is at 14 volts which means it is charging and we're going to have our air pressure gauges which is going to be building to 120 psi and you just heard that sneeze which now means it's full so we really won't have to talk about the four gauges even if you have more gauges on your truck I'm going to talk about your water temperature gauge your oil pressure gauge your volt meter gauge and your air pressure gauges from there we're gonna check our windshield wipers we're gonna make sure that the windshield wipers are working and the wipers arms and blades are secured and operating oh you're also check the windshield washer fluid we don't put any windshield washer fluid in here because the students who would run them out every single weekend would have to keep buying windshield washer fluid so we just don't put them in there right so from there what are we gonna do we're gonna make sure that our windshield is free from cracks any stickers are illegal obstructions so everything's good there we're then going to make sure that our heater and defrost are working so the heater in defrost has to be what has to be part of the test that you'll have to check out you have to make sure that it is working they don't care about if you've got AC or not but the heat and the frost you want to make sure that you're able to see we're also gonna check that our parking brakes are applied one part we're gonna make sure that our gear shift is secure so over here is button so you don't really have to worry about it but if you have a gearshift itself that you change your gears in you have to make sure that is secure from there we're gonna back up and we're going to check our mirrors so we're gonna say that our mirrors are adjusted properly to my viewing they are clean from here we're going to talk about our emergency equipment so emergency equipment that we have in this vehicle and you should have in yours they're going to be three reflective triangles one fully charged fire extinguisher and six spare fuses and then lastly we're going to be talking about our seat belt so our seat belt Palance is properly it's adjusted it's free from cracks or rips or any type of phrase or anything like that so everything is working properly this one I put on my seat belt itself I physically don't have to put my skip around before this step because we're never moving the vehicle and by long you need a seat belt only when the vehicles are in motion right so that being said we have completed the in-cab inspection now it's time to go to what we call the Tuck test so on the tug test what we're doing is we're testing the strength between the tractor and the trailer brakes on their own and then we're going to test the service brakes itself so what we're going to do where our vehicle is on or a pressure full we're then going to release one of the brakes it doesn't really matter which one so if we pushing the yellow brake that means we're releasing the tractor brake and we're gonna test out the trailer brake strength because the trailer brake a cell type but then you're gonna put into drive you're gonna come off the brake we're gonna give it a little bit of gas and we've not moving which is fantastic that means that the trailer brakes are working perfectly from there we're going to apply the factor brakes release the trailer brake and we're gonna do the same thing we're still in Drive we're going to come off the brake give a little bit of gas and we are not moving itself right so and then lastly what we're gonna do we're going to push in both tractor and trailer brakes but then gonna pull up forward five to ten feet and then we're going to come to a complete stop oh so we come to a complete stop and then nothing has turned the steering wheel has not turned to either side which means all my service breaks foot brakes are working properly so now we're going to apply all the parking brakes put it back into neutral shut the engine off and that has completed your in cab inspection that's pretty much it guys if you want some more training or some hands-on training on this particular thing itself give us a call and I know wait five to five three six nine like I said we were the only school around
