we can work on any kind of training schedule you do have all you need is 500 now to get started and the best part is we can show you how we can guarantee that's right you heard me right guarantee that you walk away with the CDL license let's stop talking about this let's start training you on how to pass new CDR road test with the new CDL pre-trip inspection class A let's get going foreign so let's talk about the pre-trip inspection the pre-trip inspection is the first portion of your CDL road test so if you want to get your CDL license you're going to have to be able to master this skill set what is a pre-trip inspection a pre-trip inspection for CDO Class A vehicle is how we inspect the entire outside of the vehicle we're going to be doing this based on the new test requirements to make sure as long as you do what I do and do and say what I say you should be able to pass the CBO road test creature inspection portion without any issue so let's get started so the first thing you're going to do when it comes to the outside of the vehicle you're going to ask your examiner a very simple question you're going to ask your examiner if he can help you out to perform an external light check which means you're going to stay inside the vehicle The Examiner is going to go outside the vehicle and then you're going to start turning on all your lights so we're talking about Headlights high beams left turn signal right turn signal four-way flashers and when you get to the back of the vehicle brake lights so the examiner is going to give you a thumbs up every time something's correct some examiners might want to describe what they're going to be doing every step of the way once make sure you have the key with you make sure that the parking brakes are engaged make sure the vehicle is safe to go if you have an automatic it might be a good idea to actually Chuck the wheels it's not 100 necessary but the first thing we're going to be talking about when we're on the outside of the vehicle is going to be what we call our lenses so this is something new that's on this part of the test these over here are going to be called covers or lenses and what they actually want you to say is the proper color and it's clean and it is not missing so all of our lenses when it comes to the headlights turn signals all our lenses up top when it comes to my CLEAR insights up top there they're all clean not broken not missing in the proper color all right so now we're going to have to open up the hood and talk about what's underneath there all right so to open up the hood you're going to have to make sure that you're unlatching from both sides of the hood and then from there you have to go to the center of the hood make sure you put your foot on the bumper and with one hand you can pull it all the way back make sure it's nice and easy smooth so what are we actually talking about underneath This Hood one of the most important things the truck driver has to check underneath the hood is going to be your fluid levels and there's three main levels that you have to check we're gonna have to check our oil level our power steering fluid level and then off our cooling level on this specific truck we have our oil level and our power steering fluid on the driver's side and then the coolant level is going to be on the passenger side every engine every truck might be a little bit different but most cases it's going to look like this so the first thing we're going to have to be talking about is our engine oil this is my engine oil it is used to lubricate the engine and this is my dipstick from there you're going to say okay this is my power steering dipstick it is used to assist the wheel action from the front steering wheel now from here let's go to the other side and talk about the coolant level so the third and final fluid level that you have to check is going to be this is my coolant level right over here my coolant it's used to cool off the engine I would have to make sure that this is my side glass where I can actually see the level and I'll make sure that the cap is on at all times I can never remove it when the engine is hot now those are the three different fluids that we have to check there's one thing that we have to say about all food you can say it at the end so you can Clump them all together which is going to be all of my fluids are in safe operating range between the add line and the fill mark on any of the sight glasses or on the dipsticks itself all right so let's talk about the next thing underneath the hood or inside the engine area which is going to be our steering system so right over here this is going to be our steering box so our steering box has to be mounted securely and it cannot be leaking now our steering hoses are all in these hoses connected to the steering box or I need the steering components itself they cannot be cracked worn or leaking itself then we're going to have our arm link and Rod my arm Lincoln Rod cannot be Warner cracked joints and sockets cannot be worn or loose and then when it comes to my entirety of my steering system it cannot be broken loose or missing any nuts or bolts and if you say all that that gives you enough credit for the steering system itself now listen to the next part all right so now it's time to actually inspect the tires and the steering axle itself one of the main differences between this test and the previous test and the previous test you might have been able to inspect multiple axles on this test specifically you only have to inspect one axle so we're going to be inspecting the steering axle since everything's right here so the first thing we're going to be talking about is going to be our tires so when it comes to our tires the first thing we're going to be talking about is the entire inflation tire inflation must be checked with it tire gauge yeah I also have to make sure that the valve and stem is actually visible where we can actually install the tire gauge itself it has to be 90 to 100 PSI all right so the next thing about your tires is going to be tire condition we have to make sure that they're not cut or damaged on any part of the tire which means side walls tread or anything like that you also have to make sure that we're not missing any valve caps you have to make sure that the valve stems are not damaged or broken at all and we also have to make sure that there is no bumps or damage or bulges in the sidewall itself and if you're ever inspecting an axle that has dual tires we have to make sure that the two tires are matching with the tread and they're not mismatched tires itself and that handles the tire condition all right so the next part of the tire is going to be our tread depth so if we come up here if you look these are going to be our Treads right over here where this rock is sticking in which is very normal now when it comes to our tread depth we have to make sure that we have at least four thirty seconds of an inch on the front tires in two thirty seconds ends on the back tires we would be checking these with the tire tread depth gauge for the test itself it's not required it's just make sure that you fully tell the examiner that that's how you would check the tire tread depth with a tire tread depth gauge all right so let's move on to the next step all right so the next thing we're going to be talking about is going to be our Rim so if we come down over here this is going to be our Rim we have to make sure that there is no bent Dam damaged or cracked rims you have to make sure that there is no such thing as rust trails that will indicate looseness on the rim itself you have to make sure there is no welding repairs as well a new thing to this test is we're going to be checking the studs which are these bolt looking things that come out of the rim and make sure that the studs and the bolt holes are not elongated which means not round we also have to make sure that there is no missing nuts bolts for the rim itself all right so while we're at The Rim let's talk about the lug nuts these are our lug nuts right over here we have to make sure that they're all present there's no signs of looseness such as rust Trails or shiny Treads and then the studs itself are not broken at all and that's handles your lug nuts itself and that's pretty much everything that has to do with the tire itself next part is going to be suspension and brakes all right so now let's talk about our suspension for the vehicle itself so when it comes to our suspension on this vehicle specifically on this axle we're going to be talking about our leaf springs our leaf springs are going to be this item right over here as you can see they're not missing shifted cracked or broken are these spring mounts which is what they're mounted to also has to be securely mounted Harley spring mounts which are least rings are secured to also cannot be cracked broken or missing any parts the next thing we're going to be talking about is our shock absorbers our shock absorbers must be secure not damaged and not leaking so now the only other thing that we would inspect would be our air ride suspension but on the front axle there is no such thing as air ride suspension so we tell the examiner there is no air ride suspension itself we are also responsible to make sure that we're checking on the front the side and on the back of the vehicle that the vehicle is sitting level which means there's no suspension uh no suspension damage throughout the entire vehicle as well and that covers your suspension so we're talking about our leaf springs our spring mounts our shock absorbers and that's pretty much it all right so now let's talk about our brake system so when it comes to our brake system one of the most important parts is going to be your brake hoses lines and couplings as well right so this is going to be our brake hoses lines and air couplings right over here so the way that's going to work is we have to make sure that they're not cracked worn or leaking we also have to make sure that it's able to Supply Air to the air brake system and we would double check that with our air brake test that we're going to do during this part of the test most likely you're going to be doing the air brake test before you even start the pre-trip inspection we're also going to be talking about our couplings that's any time that the hose connects or something else you have to make sure that they're not broken loose and missing and it happens they are more secure that's pretty much it the next thing on the brakes is going to be your brake contaminants so we have to make sure that the brake containments which is going to be behind the drum we can't really see we just have to talk about it on the test itself there are no brake contaminants such as oil debris or grease on between the brake drum and the brake lining and make sure that they are not in any way going to affect the braking effects of the brakes itself right so that's pretty much everything you have to say about brakes and suspension and your tires now let's move on to the next portion of the test so the next thing we're going to be talking about is going to be our traffic monitoring devices otherwise known as your mirror some of the newer trucks itself might have cameras around there so you will have to inspect that if it does have a camera but on this truck we will tell the examiner there are no cameras here so we're going to be talking about our mirror is not cracked or broken and it is clean our mirror brackets are secure with no broken loose or missing any parts and now we're moving on to a new section that has not been on the future inspection which is going to be our battery box right over here so let's talk about our battery all right so when it comes to our battery we're not going to be able to take off the cover for the test so you're just going to have to memorize this portion right over here first you're going to talk about the cover the cover is secure the batteries itself underneath here are going to be secure we also have to inspect that all of the connections are tight and there's no signs of corrosion and lastly we have to inspect that all electrical system cables are secure and not cracked as well so that means anything coming out of the battery box everything looks good here all right so now let's talk about the fuel tanks fuel tanks well if you do have a DEF tank you are going to have to talk about that as well but we're going to have to make sure that our fuel tanks are secure there are no leaks from the tank or the lines itself and we have to make sure that the cap is on tight this vehicle itself does not have a DEF tank so we don't have to talk about anything with that all right so let's talk about the frame next if you follow me down here we're going to be able to see our frame in between the tractor and the trailer now there's two sets of frames we're going to have a frame on the tractor and a frame on the trailer we're gonna have to make sure that our frame members and cross members are secure no cracks or bents or weld on the frame itself when it comes to the actual cargo floor we would check underneath to make sure there is no damage to the cargo for on the trailer and if the trail for whatever reason has a release arm for the axle in the back you have to make sure that that is all secure in this case this trailer does not have it so we do not have to talk about it we'll just tell the examiner there is no axle release pins for this trailer itself but I can tell you that everything else that we just checked which is the frame cross members and the floor of the cargo area with that frame of the trailer as well is all covered by using the ones I just used before all right so one of the things that you are going to have to talk about anytime you see a light or reflector you will have to talk about it so these are going to be again covers lenses because we already made sure that they work during the outside light inspection right so what we're doing is okay all my covers and all my reflectors on anything that I see on this vehicle when it comes to the trailer side right they all are secure not cracked broken and they are the proper color all right so now we're going to be actually having to check the coupling system itself and making sure that the lines and hoses are good that connect the tractor to the trailer but it's kind of hard to see right here so let's do a quick jump and I'll see you in a little bit whoa so definitely want to make sure that there's a catwalk on here if you're going to jump on top uh or have really good balance but now let's talk about the air hoses and lines right so first we're going to be talking about the connectors so there's two sets of connectors there's connectors on the trailer which we see here and also connectors on the tractor that you can't really see it's going to be underneath we're going to have to make sure we're pointing to both of these things and we're going to say okay my air and lecture connectors are sealed not damaged and they are all locked in place both on the trailer and on the tractor unit itself now after we talk about the connectors we have to talk about the lines my air hoses lines are not cut chafe Spicer worn there's no Steel Bridge going through and they're not dragging or pinched against any tractor parts itself or or even on the floor so this shows us that everything looks good to go all right so now the next thing we're going to be inspecting is going to be the actual fifth wheel where the actual tractor and trailer physically connect to each other so let's get right underneath there now we're underneath the trailer to be able to see the fifth wheel during the test itself you do not have to physically go underneath the trailer if you do not want to if you do make sure you speak loud enough for the examiner to hear you but the first thing we're going to be talking about is going to be the fifth wheel skid plate that's going to be the top piece of this fifth wheel right over here we're gonna have to make sure one that it's properly lubricated we're gonna have to make sure that the fifth wheel skid plate is securely mounted to the vehicle by the fifth wheel platform which is going to be the platform right underneath so it's mounted securely to the fifth wheel platform we're also going to make sure that there's no cracks or excessive wear or any brakes on the fifth wheel skid plate itself which is going to be this top piece of the fifth wheel all right so now let's talk about the Kingpin the apron and the Gap so when it comes to the Kingpin it's going to be something that comes down from the trailer so actual pin that's what it sounds like it's very hard to see but we're gonna have to make sure that that is not bent or damaged the apron the visible part of the apron which is going to be the bottom piece of this trailer here because also cannot be cracked or damaged in any way you have to make sure that there's absolutely no gap between the fifth wheel skid plate and the apron itself okay now while we're also down here we have to make sure that everything is lubricated properly we all know everything always works better with enough lubrication right so the other thing we have to check is going to be making sure that the Locking System is all in place so when the Locking System is going to be the Locking Jaws which is going to lock the Kingpin in place I have to make sure that securely around the Kingpin and there's no Play Between the lock and jaws and the Kingpin itself and then the last thing we're going to be checking is going to be our release arm so follow me outside I'll show you exactly what that looks like all right so our release arm is going to be underneath here it's going to be an arm where we pull this arm and it's going to open up the Locking Jaws okay so we have to make sure that the release arm is in the engage position with locking pins are in place and any pin on the fifth wheel itself is all locked secure with not and not missing any pins as well that pretty much covers everything that has to do with actual coupling system all right so now let's talk about one of the last things we have to talk about which is going to be our landing gear so we're going to come over here we're going to talk about our landing gear as you can see so we're gonna have to say we inspect our landing gear it is fully raised it has no missing parts the crank handle right here is secure the support frame and landing pads are not damaged this is a support frame this is the landing pads right over here they are not damaged at all and we're gonna have to make sure that there's enough space between the landing gear and the fifth wheel and the frame to make sure the lender is making turns there is not going to be any damage or any obstructions right and then what we'll do is we'll continue along the side of the trailer any type of reflectors that we see any lights that we see make sure you point them all out until you get to the back so that reflected that light that clearance light that turn signal light they're all clean functional proper color not missing not damaged we don't have to talk about anything else here and then also come to the back of the vehicle and you can actually see how all the reflectors back over here so all my reflectors here all my lights here all and the covers that they call it the lenses uh clean functional proper color not broken and they are attached properly to the vehicle itself and that my friends is a pre-trip inspection video If you like this training make sure you like the video make sure you subscribe to the channel we have a whole
