ANNOUNCER: From
the St. Ignatius Chapel at the Manresa Jesuit
Spiritual Renewal Centre in Pickering,
Ontario... The National Catholic
Broadcasting Council presents... The Daily TV Mass. Welcome to the celebration
of the Daily TV Mass. I am Fr. Francis
Salasiar, and today, our homilist
is Deacon Robert Kinghorn. The televising of
this mass is made possible by the contributions
from two donors. The first are The Sisters of
the Presentation Infirmary in Prince Albert,
Saskatchewan, for all those in need
of prayer and for vocations, especially for all those
discerning their vocation. The second are The Sisters of
Holy Cross, Ontario Sector, on the Feast of Our
Lady of Sorrows, in memory of those who
have gone before them in faith, the present
and future members of the family of
Holy Cross, for an end
to the pandemic, and for peace in
the world. Our thanks to our donors
for the gift of this mass. In the name of the
Father and of the Son - and of the Holy Spirit.
- CONGREGANTS: Amen. The grace and peace
of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and
the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. CONGREGANTS:
And with your spirit. Dear sisters and
brothers, today, we celebrate the
memorial feast of Our Lady of
Sorrows. As we celebrate
this feast, we are reminded through
the sorrows of Mary that because she was
chosen by God to be the mother of
the saviour, she was not spared from the worldly
difficulties and sorrows. Let us ask God's mercy as
we celebrate this Eucharist for the moments where we've
failed to accept the difficulties
in our life and the moments where we have
failed to understand God's love, where we have moved
away from God's love. Let us ask mercy. I confess to
almighty God... FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS: And
to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and
in what I have failed to do, through my
fault, through my fault, through my
most grievous fault. Therefore I asked blessed
Mary, ever virgin, all the angels
and saints, and you, my brothers
and sisters, to pray for me
to the Lord our God. FRANCIS: May almighty God
have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to
life everlasting. CONGREGANTS:
Amen. Let us pray. O God, who willed that when your Son was
lifted high on the cross his mother should
stand close by and share his
suffering, grant that
your church, participating with
the virgin Mary in the passion
of Christ, may merit a share
in his resurrection who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever
and ever. CONGREGANTS:
Amen. A reading from the
Letter to the Hebrews. "In the days of
his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers
and supplications with loud cries
and tears to the one who was able to
save him from death, and he was heard because
of his reverent submission. Although
he was a son, he learned obedience
through what he suffered. And having been
made perfect, Jesus became the source
of eternal salvation for all
who obey him." The word of
the Lord. CONGREGANTS:
Thanks be to God. # # Save me, O Lord # # In your steadfast love # # In you, O Lord # # I seek refuge # # Do not let me

And with your spirit. A reading from Holy
Gospel according to Luke. CONGREGANTS: Glory
to you, O Lord. "Mary and Joseph
were amazed at what was being said by
Simeon about Jesus. Then Simeon blessed them and
said to his mother, Mary, 'This child is
destined for the falling and
rising of many in Israel and also to be a
sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts
of many will be revealed and a sword will pierce
your heart, also.'" The gospel
of the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Praise
to you, Lord Jesus Christ. You know,
I always think that we're
so fortunate. We're so fortunate
to have a God who came to Earth
as a human in Jesus. Because of that, we know that Jesus
understands everything, everything we've
been through in life, all the joys and the
sorrows as well. And Jesus is someone
who can say, "I know
how you feel." You know how
sometimes, when we've been
through something and we want to share
it with someone, we pour out
our heart to them, and the end,
they say, "Ah, I know
how you feel." You know, in some ways,
it's not a great response, because we can never know
how one another feels. Every pain in our heart
is unique, unique, but in Jesus, we have someone
who knows how we feel. And today,
we celebrate this great Feast
of Our Lady of Sorrows, the mother of Jesus. She, too, is someone that
can say to us, "I know
how you feel," because she was through so
much raising Jesus. Well, today
in the gospel, we heard about the
presentation at the temple. When they
brought Jesus, it started innocently
enough, didn't it? They brought Jesus, as every
good Jewish person did, to offer him
in the temple, to offer him as a
firstborn son, as all
the people did. They offered him, and they
made an offering to the temple at the same time. So, they came to
entrust him to God through this act of
presenting him in the temple, and when they
were there, they met this man
called Simeon. We just heard about that
in the gospel. Now, people of
Israel, as you know, were waiting for the
messiah for centuries. They'd been waiting and
waiting and waiting, And some people thought this
messiah would be a great king, like David, who would
come with an army and slay all
of the enemies. And it'd be this
time of peace, and that's what the
messiah would be like. But then there
were other people, other people who were called
the quiet of the land, and Simeon
was one of these. These were people that
dedicated their life to prayer
and waiting and longing for this saviour
to come into their lives. But Simeon
had been told he would not die before
he saw this messiah. So, this is the
great significance of today, the presentation
at the temple. Simeon realized
who this was. This was the saviour they've
all been waiting for. Then he turned
to Mary. He turned to Mary, and like a prophet, he said to Mary, "However, for you
and your life, this man,
this child, when he grows up, is going to be
the cause of the rise and fall
of many people." He also said to her, "There's going to be
great opposition to him when he grows up." But finally,
he turned to Mary, and he said,
"Your own heart, your own mother's heart
a sword will pierce." And I think,
at that moment, Mary suddenly realized
what she had said yes to when the angel Gabriel
came. Remember? She said, "Yes, be it done
according to your word," the great
fiat of Mary. But she realized what that
was going to be in her life, and once again, she said yes. So, today, we remember
Our Lady of Sorrows, the great sorrows
that she had. Like Mary, we often have
these sorrows, too, and we ponder them
in our heart, but Mary, think
about what she saw. She saw her son be thrown
out of the temple. Can you imagine,
as a mother, seeing your son thrown out
of a church as a blasphemer? Mary went
through that. Mary also, of course, followed him right
to the foot of a cross. She saw him rejected
by many people. She saw him being crucified
like a common thief. Can you imagine,
as a mother, looking up and seeing
your son there, crucified? The great sorrows, these swords that will
pierce the heart of Mary, came indeed in
her life. Mary is one who can
say to each one of us, "I know
how you feel." And many of us, I
think, in our lives, experience sorrow, so much sorrow, and sometimes, we don't know
how we can deal with it. We just have to wait
and see and be faithful. I remember, my father, when he was 58,
had a stroke, which severely disabled him, and he was never
quite the same person. He lived another
20 years, and I remember my mother crying
at times, saying, "I don't know
why God allows this. But we'll go forward. We'll go forward." You know, so many
of us understand this. There's so many
times in life that what
we have to do, we don't know the
reason for it, but we have
to endure it. There's a group of
religious in Scotland in a group called the Community
of the Transfiguration, and I'm an associate
member of it. But they don't have
a rule for their group, but what they do have
are suggestions, which I kind
of like. But one of them is
so beautiful. It says, "Remember
that what we have to endure is as important as
what we can do." You know,
sometimes in life when we feel we can't
do anything about anything, something happens. Or we'll not able physically
to do what we used to, but we endure it. This beautiful
saying, I think, is for all of us. What we endure is often as
important as what we can do. And so often, we feel
we've failed in our life, and even if
we've failed, we always get that
example of Mary to get up once again and continue faithfully to
be with the church, be with the
children, continue to be faithful to this
gospel that we believe in, and to believe in
Son Jesus. So, today,
as we celebrate this great Feast
of Our Lady of Sorrows, let us all offer
ourselves to the Father in this Eucharist through the intercession
of Our Lady of Sorrows and also, of course,
through her son Jesus, who comes today. So, let's bring
our life to this altar, this Eucharist
that we celebrate, and now, let us
continue in prayer. And join us in the
prayers of the faithful. So, let us turn
now to Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, and to her son Jesus to intercede for us as we offer
our prayers to the Father. For all those
who suffer and have pains
that pierce their hearts, that through the intercession
of Our Lady of Sorrows, they will find
peace and healing, we pray
to the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Lord,
hear our prayer. For those among us
who struggle with fears, regrets,
and doubts, we pray
to the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Lord,
hear our prayer. For our holy father,
Pope Francis, and for all
world leaders, that working
together, they can find peaceful solutions
to our global problems, we pray
to the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Lord,
hear our prayer. For all who feel imprisoned by
being isolated and alone, that they will feel the presence
of Jesus in their own prayers and through the prayers of
the daily mass TV community, we pray
to the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Lord,
hear our prayer. For all those in the
daily TV mass community who are dedicated
to the care of the sick, may they receive
the grace to continue their ministry
of compassion and caring with hope and joy, we pray
to the Lord. CONGREGANTS: Lord,
hear our prayer. Heavenly Father, your Son Jesus came to
bring abundant life to all. Hear these prayers which we
offer today through Mary, Our Lady of
Sorrows. Amen. CONGREGANTS:
Amen. Blessed are you, Lord,
God of all creation, for through your goodness,
we have received the bread we
offer you, fruit of the earth and
work of human hands. It will become for us
the bread of life. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS:
Blessed be God forever. (Francis whispering
indistinctly) Blessed are you, Lord,
God of all creation, for through your goodness,
we have received the wine
we offer you, fruit of the vine,
work of human hands. It will become our
spiritual drink. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS:
Blessed be God forever. (Francis speaking
indistinctly) Pray, dear brothers
and sisters, my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS:
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at
your hands for the praise
and glory of his name, for our good and the good
of all his holy church. FRANCIS: Receive,
O merciful God, to the praise of
your name the prayers and sacrificial
offerings which we bring to you as we venerate the
blessed virgin Mary, whom you graciously gave to us
as a most devoted mother when she stood by
the cross of Jesus, who lives and reigns
forever and ever. - CONGREGANTS: Amen.
- The Lord be with you. CONGREGANTS:
And with your spirit. Lift up
your hearts. CONGREGANTS: We
lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God. CONGREGANTS: It
is right and just. It is truly
right and just, our duty,
and our salvation always and everywhere
to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, almighty
and eternal God, and to praise, bless, and
glorify your name on the feast day of the
blessed ever-virgin Mary, for by the overshadowing
of the Holy Spirit, she conceived
your only begotten Son and without losing
the glory of virginity brought forth into the world
the eternal light, Jesus Christ. Through him, the angels
praise your majesty. Dominions adore and powers
tremble before you. Heaven and the virtues of
heaven and the blessed seraphim worship together with
exaltation. May our voices,
we pray, join with theirs in humble
praise as we acclaim... # Holy, holy # # Holy Lord # # God of hosts # # Heaven and
Earth are full # # Of your glory # # Hosanna # # In the highest # # Hosanna # # In the highest # # Blessed is
he who comes # # In the name of
the Lord # # Hosanna # # In the highest # # Hosanna # # In the highest # You are indeed holy,
O Lord, the fount
of all holiness. - Make holy, therefore--
- (Bells ringing) --these gifts,
we pray, by sending
down your spirit upon them like
the dewfall so they may
become for us the body and blood
of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he
was betrayed and entered willingly
into his passion, he took bread, giving thanks,
broke it, and gave it
to his disciples, saying, "Take this, all of you,
and eat of it, for this is
my body, which will be
given up for you." (Bells ringing) In a similar way,
when supper was ended, he took the chalice.
Once more giving thanks, he gave it to
his disciples, saying, "Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the
chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and
eternal covenant, which will be poured out
for you and for many for the forgiveness
of sins. Do this in
memory of me." (Bells ringing) The mystery
of faith. # When we
eat this bread # # And drink this cup # # We proclaim your death # # O Lord # # Until you come again # Therefore, as we
celebrate the memorial of his death and
resurrection, we offer you, Lord,
the bread of life and the chalice
of salvation, giving thanks that you
have held us worthy to be in your presence
and minister to you. Humbly, we pray that partaking
of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one
by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,
your church spread throughout
the world and bring her to
the fullness of charity together with
Francis, our pope, Thomas, our bishop, and all the clergy, Remember also our
brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in
the hope of the resurrection and all who have
died in your mercy. Welcome them into the
light of your face. Have mercy on
us all, we pray, that with the blessed
virgin Mary, mother of God, with blessed
Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed apostles
and all the saints who have pleased
you throughout the ages, we may merit to be
coheirs to eternal life and may praise and
glorify you through your Son
Jesus Christ. Through him and
with him and in him, O God,
almighty Father in the unity
of the Holy Spirit all glory and
honour is yours forever and ever. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS:
Amen. FRANCIS: At the
saviour's command and informed
by divine teaching, we dare to say... FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS:
Our Father, whoart in heaven, hallowed be
thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth
as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread and forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those
who trespass against us and lead us
not into temptation but deliver
us from evil. FRANCIS: Deliver us, Lord, we
pray, from every evil. Graciously grant peace
in our days that by the help
of your mercy, we may be always
free from sin and safe
from all distress as we await the
blessed hope and the coming of
our saviour Jesus Christ. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS: For
the kingdom, the power, and the glory
are yours, now and forever. FRANCIS:
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to
your apostles, "Peace I leave you; my peace
I give you," look not on our sins but
on the faith of your church and graciously grant her
peace and unity in accordance with
your will who live and
reign forever and ever. - CONGREGANTS: Amen.
- The peace of the Lord be with you always. CONGREGANTS:
And withyour spirit. Let us offer each other
the sign of peace. # Lamb of God # # You take away # # The sins of
the world # # Have mercy
on us # # Lamb of God # # You take away # # The sins of
the world # # Have mercy
on us # # Lamb of God # # You take away # # The sins of
the world # # Grant us # # Peace # Behold the
lamb of God. Behold him who takes away
the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called
to the supper of the lamb. FRANCIS, CONGREGANTS: Lord,
I am not worthy that you should
enter under my roof, but only say
the word and my soul
shall be healed. (Francis speaking
indistinctly) (Bells ringing) ANNOUNCER: Please
join me now in this act of
spiritual communion. My Jesus, I believe that you are present
in the blessed sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire you in my soul. Since I cannot now
receive you sacramentally, come spiritually
into my heart. As though you were
already there, I embrace you and unite myself wholly to you. Permit not that I should ever be separated from you. Amen. # # Let us pray. Having received the sacrament
of eternal redemption, we humbly
ask, O Lord, that honouring how the
blessed virgin Mary suffered with
her son, we may complete in ourselves
for the church's sake what is lacking in
the sufferings of Christ, who lives and reigns
forever and ever. - CONGREGANTS: Amen.
- The Lord be with you. CONGREGANTS:
And with your spirit. May almighty
God bless you, the Father, the Son - and the Holy Spirit.
- CONGREGANTS: Amen. Go in peace, glorifying the
Lord by your life. CONGREGANTS:
Thanks be to God.
