Always assume the other person can understand you, I've caught people talking about me in Spanish before. I speak with an English accent, I don't fit the stereotype of someone who would understand Spanish but I do! Even learning a little bit of a foreign language will really help you connect with the locals when visiting another country, and they'll appreciate the effort.

Really cool... reminds me of laoshu505000 RIP.

This is my favorite clip from laoshu... he makes this server almost start crying, when he starts speaking her local dialect:

This video suddenly showed up on my Youtube feed about 3-4 days ago and stays for 2 days. Sometimes I wonder if we just watch the same thing, with mercy of Youtube's algorithm.

I wish I were better at picking up languages, but I'm no good at it at all. I lived in Japan for 8 years and know very little, to the chagrin of my wife.

Whats the reason people in Asian countries tend to want pictures of white people? (referring to her first encounter) I've seen this happen before on other occasions as well so I know this isn't a one-off.

I can say I'm guilty of this, especially when I'm with my parents.

You speak fluent Chinese and Japanese. You're learning some Korean. You must catch people talking about you right? Well, yes but... Whenever I hear this question I'm always reminded of that Seinfeld episode. You know when they're in the nail salon and they catch the staff talking about them. Where's my tail? I heard every word you said. Is it just a little bit of paranoia that when we hear people speaking a foreign language we tend to wonder "Are they talking about me?" Or perhaps it's the fact that foreign languages tend to make some people feel a bit uncomfortable. Maybe even a little bit angry. You got some nerve! Well, anyway today we're going to be taking a look at some footage where I actually got people talking about me on camera and they thought that I couldn't understand. Write in the comments section what your experience has been, like this video, and subscribe. Today we're going to be delving into this old question. How likely is it that people are actually talking about you. And if so, what are they saying? Let's get started. Jr. High school and High school. Wow. But no English! No English!? Oh no! Why? Empty head. Is this your teacher? Yes. I'm an English teacher. But no English. Only Japanese. No English. Look at those high school kids. They are so cute. You know a lot of high school kids want to practice English. They all learn it in school. If you're alone on a trip, they're east to talk to. They really are. They will actually look at foreigners, notice foreigners, like he just said "Is she from Russia?" Like most Japanese people think I'm from Russia. I could just tell they wanted to talk. But maybe if you didn't speak Japanese you wouldn't have heard that. Them talking "Is she from Russia?" You pick up on that. You're like: They've been watching you the whole time. They wanted to talk. So make the first move if you want. Ooo, yeah. Now I can say I touched a deer. Yaaaaa... They're all looking at me. They're looking at me from down the street. That's kind of fun. Look at how cute these little pandas are! Wow! That's dousha, called anko in Japanese. I feel like I did a bad thing. I ate him. So, what did you think? In these 10 years of living in China and Japan I've sometimes caught people talking about me. But I've never caught anyone saying anything bad. That is the truth. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but a lot of it is definitely in our heads. And one way we can overcome this is by learning other languages, which I strongly encourage you to do. Let's stop being the paranoid idiot... to put it harshly. So, here I am on the train again. Cheers. You know I'm a busy person like you. I have stuff to do in life. I have a job. I only have so much free time to study. That's why I take opportunities like this. I'm going to be sitting here for two hours. I pop this open to learn a little Korean. I always recommend software I've used to learn these languages and Pimslure has been great. You can find it in the video description. There's a link. They've got 50 languages and a 7 day free trial. Try it out. I mean you can't go wrong. Like the free stuff, eh, that only gets you so far. I started that in the beginning. I didn't want to pay any money for anything. You know you can buy these lessons $15 a pop. You'll get addicted because they're really good. So, I'm gonna learn some Korean. (Korean) Thank you very much. Pimslure. So here I go making use of my time while sitting on a train.
