today me and landon are out here on the ohio river below a walk and dam in the springtime a lot of times fish will congregate below these locks and dams that's where all the baits at right now so the conditions are just about perfect today i think we're gonna i believe we're gonna put some fish in the boat today landon's actually up front right now trying to catch us a couple more skit jack we got some frozen ones and i got a couple fresh ones we're gonna try to get a couple more skipjack and then of course we're gonna have to get us an asian carp we've done spotted them we've seen a big school them that's just one big ball of 10 to 20 pound asian carp is what that is you see how they school up they're easy to catch but be prepared to have a mess a tangled up mess in your net because they eat their ash and carry on you got to have a good net or a little just shredded so what i do with these asian carp guys i bleed them out i cut their tails off that container is about 12 inches tall and it's full always on top of blood because we're below the dam so obviously we're in a whole lot of current uh anywhere from three miles an hour and this spot right here is about 1.5 but uh this area we're in just got a whole bunch of humps and each one of those humps is a current break that's a perfect example right there the current's going that direction and you can see that that little pump right there is breaking that current and we're trying to put our baits right on the back sides of these humps nothing too complicated guys just fishing current breaks more than anything and that'll attract blues and flatheads blow a dam no i don't break another well i think that's a fish daddy can rock swim not a real big fish it's always nice when you have a takedown as soon as you get your [Music] robbery but it's the first one of the day and i'll take a fish like that he ate a skit jack head guys that we just caught we just caught we'll skip jack in the cast net put his head on there and nailed it let's catch us another one when i picked it up i thought he felt like a little bitty thing do you think you're even close you gotta you got some some on him that time i'll tell you i'll gladly take over if you if you're tired [Music] taking more drag [Music] i'll see you later i see the swivel what do you got it's a real nice that's a flathead nice flathead bring him up in front of the net and i'll let him fall right into the net in this current just make sure you keep that line from touching anything one more pull come on just let go of him now let him fall in the net he swam right out current makes it tough we got him now that's the biggest fight have you ever caught wayne i'm happy that's what he ate guys asian carp don't let him go you call it 30-pounder oh we got one in the boat got another one on guys that'd be fish number three in the exact same spot we have this is gonna be a little bit out here i catch the five pounders while landon's recuperate from catching that 30-pound flathead oh asian carp okay it's number one bait in this river i'm starting to think so you still see the skin where the carp was there's doubled up there's the size fish landing catches there's a size fish i catch all right guys we're gonna let this big guy go he's right around 30 pounds and then i'm gonna let my little five pounder go here asian carp guys the last few trips out here asian carps caught the majority of the fish we caught one little one on skipjack that you've seen but those two right there that we just caught together both came on agent dark but that was the only two rods that we had carved on all right so we moved down just a little bit from where we were at uh it gets real shallow right in this area but there's one small deep hole right here that's about 25 foot deep and we got about six foot of water all the way around it just a real rocky area you can see rocky bank i figured that any fish that were moving upstream would probably move up this little channel here and uh we're just gonna put bites all the way around it got just a little bit of current in this spot we move over just a little bit farther and it's ripping so i think we're gonna catch some fish here we're gonna get some baits in the water and see what happens then to my house which is on oh hey i'll call you back we got a good fish on we're about to get a double so we sat here for 16 17 minutes guys that's what the gopro says 17 minutes and we had one get slammed it bit like a real big fish so far he hadn't really cooled nice fish probably 20 pound fish he's probably about 18 pounds what do you think winning 18 pounds yeah about 18. he might go 20 i doubt i'll take fish like that all day long be tickled to death about it great day swimming that's the same rod again the rod that we got suspended with that big peg float when you're when you're in slack water super super light current guys get those peg floats a try santee rig as some people call them so i've been sitting in this spot for about 45 minutes caught two fish and they've both been on this rig the suspended rig santee rig whatever you want to call it so probably gonna be put adding a float to one of these other rigs that seems to be what's working chunk of asian carp suspended up about two foot two three foot off the bottom all the fish today except for one was caught on asian carp never had a bite on shad caught one on a fresh skipjack head so me and landon were both tired and hungry but it had been an incredible day on the water guys we caught probably close to 20 fish i didn't keep count most of them were in the 5 to 10 pound range we did catch several in the teens with the highlight of the day being landon's 30 pound flathead so we decided to head home get a good night's sleep and come back in the morning and hit it hard again guys me and lana made it back out here we didn't get here as early as i had hoped to have some things i had to get done had to get some food and stuff before we came back out here today but we're going to go do exactly what we were doing yesterday and we'll give that 30 minutes or so if that doesn't work we might try to spend fishing or something but i threw my net last night on the way out of here and i wish i'd had the camera turned on i caught five asian carp and one throw in the cast net and i also got a big skip jack in the cast net and on our way in just now i was casting around for some skip jack and i caught another one so we've got plenty of skip jack today we've got a whole tub of asian carp nice big ohio river skipjack guys caught fresh caught it yesterday afternoon i'm gonna put out three pieces of skipjack and we're gonna put out thirty pieces of asian carp and see which one does the best i'll show you guys another trick here for anchor fishing and heavy current we've got eight ounce weights on but no matter what size weight you use eventually your outside rods are gonna come in and meet your inside rods and you're going to have a big tangled mess so what i like to do is i've passed one really far out and on the side of it i won't cast out as far and then the next one will be really far out so on and so forth just stagger your lines that way as everything comes in you won't have a big tangled mess back there as long as those baits are on the bottom i'll still fish six rods because that bait you know i'm gonna cast this bait over here it's gonna end up probably behind the boat at some point and that's another way to cover a lot more cover a lot more water but i'll show you what i mean we're going to put this one out pretty far and this next one we're going to put out we're not going to put it out as far and that's gonna keep those lines from crossing it then this rod will put out far try that sometimes guys if you're having problems with your lines crossing in this heavy current at work we got baits in the water guys just a matter of time now before them rods start slamming we're not in the exact same spot we were in yesterday yesterday we were more over in that area but i looked i looked at this spot on the way in this morning and i found another little deep hole about 30 foot of water with some shallow stuff all around it there's a few fish laying on the down current side of it getting you know breaking the current so we'll set here for a minute if nothing happens we're going to move down that way a little bit if we can't do it anchor fishing we might go up close to the dam and walk some baits behind the boat we'll be right back with a fish guys take your fish drag we sat here for 13 minutes guys 13 minutes and 30 seconds and we had a rod get i mean hammered dragged just peeling off the reel it doesn't matter it doesn't matter how many times it happens guys there's just nothing like seeing that rod fold over it's got to be the best feeling in the world we're getting a bite on that red rod right there in the monster rod these three rods are up on the top side of the ledge and then these three are on the bottom side and this rod that the fish hit was the one that was right at the bottom of the drop-off look at that tk hook buried guys get you some of them can't beat these hooks right here i'm telling you nice fish great way to start today guys let them go let them grow so it didn't take long to figure out that everything had changed from day one to day two on the first day all of our fish were caught on the asian carp they didn't seem to be interested in anything else on the second day we only caught three fish and all three of those fish were caught on skipjack i think it's crazy how these fish's behavior change so much from day to day that's why it's always good to take more than one bait with you because you never know what they're gonna want from day to day but as always i want to thank you guys for watching god bless you guys we'll see you in the next video
