rules my name is tom and behind the camera we've got shaunita and we are watching today horror horror because it's october right it's um yeah horror season it is halloween who knows for us it's the first of september for you guys you live in the future what are we watching today we're watching a film that has been it's been a it's been a long time overdue for us to watch this movie a lot of people have been asking in the comments for us when are we gonna watch it when we go we're gonna watch it i think you may have already seen it um but i haven't so i hope you haven't seen it okay um but today we're going to watch the 1976 early carrie oh you wrapped me i was gonna choose this next oh really literally yeah uh i haven't seen it i've seen the uh remake that they did with chloe grace moretz so i haven't seen the original i haven't even seen the review but i think the original people talk about a lot more as being an iconic not just stephen king film but horror film yeah um is [ __ ] space there is that right i have no idea i think john travolta's in it as well yeah the a girl with powers brian department brian yeah he did mission impossible untouchables didn't he that we watched yeah and and the mission impossible one really yeah yeah he's a good director um so i'm excited for it i am excited for it i just hope it's i love watching older films as well so i hope it's got a character about it but yeah i'm looking forward to it i hope it's iconic do you know the scene like the scene no okay i wouldn't say that but okay let's go let's go you know what volleyball is underrated actually it's over yeah but like it's so much better on a beach because you can't like dive on concrete can you yeah you can guessing that's the first time i don't think she knows anything about it though let's see they know why didn't she doesn't she obviously was never told by her parents teacher over there yeah literally the teacher is like 10 minutes late to this bullying session right in front of her eyes she's acting like a maniac [Music] it was just her period for god's sake well we'll send her home miss finch you're sending cassie right it's carrie white he reminds me of you this is what you would be you were literally wearing that same suit when you've got my same hair as well yeah and the suit wasn't my suit looking like that it looks exactly like that it's scary oh she has got to lap without straight away does she know she has these powers well she was looking at the ashtray yeah but she's like maybe hiding them sorry about this incident she's trying to control them yeah come on mate literally corrected literally like yeah but literally corrected him three times within the space of like five minutes and he still got it wrong why american houses so big because we've got so much land there's my house there's like one room my sue is a good girl these are godless times mrs neal i'll drink to that [Laughter] to godless times if they're godless times what the hell are the times that we're really living in i pray you find jesus you know she reminds me of already that woman in midnight mass in the town oh yeah [Music] yeah no sympathy oh lord help like a punk like a rocker then look he has sunglasses you look like um oh you haven't seen the latest season there's strange things eddie i don't know the guy there yeah oh my god i feel so bad for her whoa that was cool mirror move yeah oh that's freaky so her mum obviously doesn't know that she's got these powers you see jesus's face oh that gave me the creeps all we will have is each other and that could be enough that guy's 40 years old on the back of the heart yeah yeah tell the popular girl to [ __ ] off my idea for this little trick you pulled was three days suspension and refusal of your prom tickets like prom is like the most important thing in their life isn't it yeah yeah why is she the only one with red and with a hat on [Music] it's their personality trait that's why they're gonna get more angry and angry with carrie and like seek even more revenge yeah you can't get away with this getting her landed you in this situation can you not see that [Music] i said that you should have slapped around the face behind miracles secret science behind she's trying to it's a common thing now isn't it that everyone knows what it is but i wonder when stephen king yeah if it was that maybe yeah how do you think john travolta was there this must be 28 it must be after greece right was it before oh i don't know actually she's a brat isn't she here what the [ __ ] i thought she had her own foot in her hand then it must be so weird when you're an actor looking back on these scenes and remembering filming them what the [ __ ] is this relationship toxic thing yeah how's she able to talk if you don't have a date next friday would you like to go with me to the prom next friday i know this is like that see they stop carrie does she know is she gonna be like i know because she's trying to trick me again yeah well she's smart yep did you look at that come on that's what miraculous just reminded me of joe just cracks just a joker when he's like yeah it just cracks instantly and the teacher's like thank you you know you can't go without a date you can't go without a date it's a bit stupid we're not trying to hurt her miss collins we're trying to help her now maybe she is trying to help her nah maybe don't you think you're just gonna look a little ridiculous when you walk in the problem with carrie it's a bit of a horrible thing to say what would you do in that situation and what situation if you were that one if he asked me out no no no if you were that woman and you had to do and you thought they were going to trick her but then you weren't sure i beat him bring back the cane get the cane out this is my this is my sean will never work with children i do i work with you i'll give you that one oh no the mum's gonna be laughing the door i forgot about sin the raven the raven they're literally like bloodthirsty animals no pigs aren't tom no they're that woman do it prom that's like them [Music] why is she being like this to a kid that's carry a sackcloth ah can't hand can't can't be doing bullies man [Music] he's so bad because he's genuinely like really excited tuxedo for the yeah i know i only got 10 bucks though 10 bucks you can rent yourself a tuxedo 10 pounds to rent a tuxedo that's like 150 quid to 200 pounds nowadays two jazzy are they beautiful i can see your dirty pillows you can see your dirty pillows they're called breasts and every woman has them you know what top marks to her man yeah she's gonna she's gonna knock her out with the telekinesis oh my god it's bad she's genuinely like insane or a problem she's just like paralyzed yeah she like forced her back i think [Music] i don't think he knows about the pig blood i don't yeah i don't think the other two i don't know but she might think they do when it happens yeah i don't think he does i think his girlfriend does don't bother about them if they self-destruct with you still got a hat one she knows does he know then i don't think because he's inviting her to something afterwards he's being so nice to her like he can't be a dick i hope he's not dead until like i hope he's like when it hap like when it happens or if it happens i hope he's like i hope he defends her yeah like punches and then she's like no it was you and just pokes a hole through skull with a finger [Music] i think she did try and kiss her and then she apologized yeah there you go that was real that yeah i felt it i felt it [Music] i bought that i bought that as genuine it's gonna be tragic isn't it you're beautiful you're beautiful if if it turns out he's involved in this it's going to break my heart oh yeah i will be pissed in this nook case why there's no way she's going to kill her own daughter there's no [Music] way take that dumb red hat off your head you weirdo oh my god [Music] here we go [Applause] it's literally tragic it is literally tragic oh my god i can't even watch it it's so it is heartbreaking [Music] when is it gonna happen this is just oh my god there's so much tension let's [ __ ] drop it already [Music] he's not even gonna get a chance to ask or explain she'll just yes yeah [Music] i did get on him but not as much obviously oh she's starting to laugh oh yeah yeah he's not um [Music] jesus christ that that image was haunting and the sound the sound design is so good in that huh they're not laughing she's just now thinks that everybody's yeah this is the butt of the jedi oh my god [Music] this is all premeditated it's not even like a reaction oh no they're dead this is dead like that it's nice having a split screen that shows how much chaos it's almost yeah you find the amount of chaos yeah all at the same time oh she had the most brutal death and she was the one that wanted to help oh my god i did not expect that yeah she's the devil now caked in oh jesus to be fair they did just try and murder her oh that's how we're playing it [Music] i like how it saves the sorrow just as much as it saved like the happiness and tension [Music] she's right there it's been all there the whole time i did think like the wig i was like aren't you just a little bit weirded out that should just come out from behind i'm sad before we were married but soon never dies sin never dies carrie is the product of her sins that's what she thinks it's a punishment yeah [Music] no [Music] oh my god definitely psycho vibes in it oh nice oh oh it's irony because yes yes the jesus actually you know in a room literally in this exact same pose as jesus yeah i know what's that noise i was her just destroying the place in their anger in their mind yeah oh my god carrie white burns in hell [ __ ] hell that's horrible isn't it this is where carrie's hand comes up like ah and it grabs it from the dead oh my god okay yeah [ __ ] dr schneider saying that she'll forget about it like soon she'll forget about it soon she's young i don't think so that was a horrible dream right that was carrie 1976 and it's actually an 18 yeah and 18 when it came out i guess it's not an 18 rating 18 that probably is but yeah probably it's like although yeah i knew the t i guess but man i i was pleasantly surprised with this movie you know yeah i did i really really liked it like it felt like ahead of its time almost especially when you compare this to the film that we just watched which is phantasm which was which was later than this film i know is a lower budget movie but this this just proves that you can have a simple story but with effective writing like uh coming from stephen king and really good directing and lighting the directing amazing like top notch oh it was so good it really made the movie i think yeah yeah like the lighting like you say the colors the the camera work yeah the uh i thought the acting was really good i was wondering when we're going into this is this going to be a horror is this going to be a scary film from what i knew about it and it isn't necessarily but the horror comes from the tension and the suspense and the inevitability of knowing what's going to happen like the emotional distress that you know the character will be in yeah it's emotional horror isn't it because you know you anticipated and she was so good with a subtle performance in the eyes yeah and like the mouth and just like the the innocence the naivety the excitement that she showed yeah was just destroyed and when she was going full rage at the end with her eyes just open like there were glimpses of her and it was that was full horror yeah yeah and definitely like the composition like you mentioned during the reaction there are such such nice shots like carefully thought about shots in this in this uh this movie that just takes it to a whole new level especially for a movie in the 1970s um that that we've seen so how many 1970s movies have we've seen we've seen carrie we've seen suspiria halloween halloween uh phantasm friday the 13th friday the 13th yeah um but no i don't think we've seen many you know so from the ones that we've seen the extra sister's 70s was that yeah 70s as well yeah so from all of those this stands very high in terms of like directing just simple as is when you get a good director and when you get a good writer stephen king you you don't need anything else you don't you really don't need anything else so i've seen the remake with chloe race yes i just it was forgettable i don't remember i remember like the plot the plot is the same obviously because it's a remake but i don't remember anything from it like here there are shots that you'll just stay in your memory that you'll always remember like it took time the look of it yeah and it was it was a slow burn but not in a bad way you were always going in one direction and it it ingrains itself into your mind just it was there was an inevitability of the film which just almost makes you sick yeah does the subtext of um religion as well isn't there and um the growing up becoming a woman i always think there's a either obviously criticism of it but it's almost uh an irony to it as well isn't there a hypocrisy to it yeah well at the end when we we didn't understand i love films that do this like at the first you don't understand why a character is doing a certain thing so the mother is treating the the the daughter terribly and we just we just didn't understand i was like why is she doing this why is she oh she's just crazy that's a bit [ __ ] but but the movie and the story creates depth and the character crates it has more depth to it because it wasn't it wasn't she wasn't just treating her badly just for the sake of it she sinned herself she sinned herself you know when she was younger when she had sex with that man and therefore her daughter was the product of that sin and therefore she felt resentfulness towards a daughter and that's why she and that depth to that character where when at the start i just thought she was just crazy like it's just so good and that that that shows stephen king's writing the only yeah i don't know how much it does differ from the book the only cons that i have her that i feel like at when she left to go back to her parents i feel like that happened too quick with the death of the other two in the car i feel like this should have just been the same something more savor it a bit more yeah slow down a bit there yeah but um but other than that other than that the pace was pretty spot on yeah i can't think of many cons really no i wonder how steven think king thinks about this adaptation i bet he loves yeah there's multiple multiple adaptations isn't there um we've done a few of stephen king's yeah no i mean of of carrie as well i see i don't know what the hell carrie two's about because they i will question the ending a little bit whether or not they needed that dream tag on with her hand coming out or whether or not that cheapens the kind yeah it felt a little bit advice that she had it felt a little bit like um a nightmare on elm street yeah yeah i mean like freddie's back he never died um what do you think that you mean uh i would give it you know what i'd probably give it an 8 out of 10. yeah i really i'm going higher than that i think it was uh at least an 8.5 yeah i think it was really like i can't find many faults with it like the direction was good i don't know what i expected no i don't want to be a i don't want to be a snob when it comes to horror and just rate it lower because i think as a film this is really good yeah yeah because i i don't even see it as a horror movie i see it as a character you keep calling it a tragedy which is yeah tragedy yeah description for it yeah and it really took me off guard with the approach it took i thought it was just going to be plain horror spooky scary but you got invested in the characters and when you do that with a film like you've grabbed the audience straight away so it really surprised me in in the best way so uh yeah eight this year 8.5 yeah really
