Canoe Camping on Islands Down the Allegheny River

all right we are Blake and I are back and we are canoeing down French Creek and the Allegheny River for three days we just left camp in Utica Pennsylvania we can't arrive late last night around 11:30 after work and set up camp and just camped at a local campground now we're in the canoe and we just hopped into French Creek Lake and I are coming up to a bald eagle we're going to see if we can get it on camera here we think yeah we can't tell there's really no way this camera is going to capture it but we'll try here no no ha no that's an eagle what is legal yeah yeah are you doing it yeah find the clear spot on your call Lake and I have been paddling about an hour so far just heading down the French Creek this is day one just getting started we got a couple more days these bad boys Blake and I are planning on doing some fishing this trip so just starting to figure out where and when we're going to fish and try it out we've been paddling now for about three hours we're just about to get to their filming yeah so Blake and I have been paddling for about three hours and we're getting pretty close coming up to Franklin Pennsylvania which is where we're going to actually we're going to stop at the place we rented the canoe from meet the guy and Pam the baby and JB so he he actually yesterday dropped the canoe off at the campground we stayed at last night so we were able to just get up this morning and just good thing go and he's going to go pick up the truck and drive it to the other end for us so it's a good deal but we're just getting close we're going to stop pay our dues and then eat some lunch and then keep on going on the Allegheny River you camp on the islands throughout the river as you go down so there's a bunch of islands coming up on the way and we'll just find one that's suitable and can't we'll set up camp it should be it's only noon now and we've done 10 miles out of the 15 we were hoping to do today so we'll be done early today and have a lot of time at camp so we've come to the end of our time on the French Creek and we're at the confluence now with the Allegheny so the rest of this canoe trip is going to be quite a bit different got some kids some kids waving hello like and I are stopping to eat our lunch what do you got Blake I got pepperoni and crackers one snack nice I went with the peanut butter and tortillas about that good really what it's all right not bad in pretty windy we're almost a camp the winds just slowing us down not the island but that Island up ahead so we're going to be paying for tonight sleek and I have been at camp now for a couple hours and we've just been fishing we've been having some good luck with smallmouth bass we've got about five total and they're all without a foot or more length to their good side Smallville's so you're just been doing that now we're getting ready to cook some dinner and just suffice it out by the water still really windy here so it hasn't been great for filming with this camera because it's just going to be a bunch of noise [Music] Blake and I are just sitting down to dinner and I thought of stoves running in the end the weeds here protected from the wind I got a boil what are you eating Blake I got some packet for Bay Texas take their chili excited about it I've had two of theirs I had chicken dumplings and the it was awesome they're great good sug style sugar recommended them and I've got I got chicken and dumplings tonight but some outhouse so that's good Oh shepherd's pie it's what the other one was that I was over spy that was that's the best like backpacking they'll head their Shepherd sorry well the bugs are coming out are they yeah leave this I think you can see them in the video we're going to get a ship recurrence Oh blake and i are wrapping up day one of fishing spot to get dark we're gonna head back to camp here shortly and start a fire I am done playing the seventh day about the fish or not we're getting there we're not done yet still nothing but smallmouth yeah well das is well off yeah we got six now it's better than nothing yeah the river like this I don't know what else we're going to catch in a few those are the biggest smallmouth we've ever caught yeah so I mean that was awesome yeah we just kind of started fishing there just for no reason particularly just cuz it was I can't post the cab yeah that's a good spot in I know they just kept hitting he didn't think about it we were like oh this was particularly good you know yeah so tomorrow is going to bring even better luck I think we got 20 miles of canoeing tomorrow and as much fishing as we can get in so it was a good warm-up yeah we were getting our canoeing skills back and figuring out how to fish in this area so we think we got it down enough yeah yeah down enough not even close to really having it down but to 20 miles tomorrow and then we'll have one more day after that on our way out or they here take the spot Morrell real quick all right clearly action on that lure [Laughter] it's incredible that's going to do that is really the whole scene it was an awesome first day off on the French Creek and the Allegheny fortunately we didn't film that much but we just had a lot to get done we had so much stuff goes going on there goes nice man if it's okay it's a mix of mud and yeah but in wood and grass will film more tomorrow yeah breakfast just waking up getting packed up there yeah it's like seven o'clock right now so we're on we're right on time Lake and I just got on the river and we're just getting ready to start fishing a bit we're coming up on a spot called Fisherman's Cove which we don't really know what that is but it's on the map so it was where a couple fishing so it sounds like Oh sounds like a good place for us so we're just getting started it's still pretty cold that some people are starting to feel it all right let's go they're often closer Blake and I are still paddling along just still been fishing all morning pretty much for about the past two hours a mixture of fishing and paddling but we haven't had any luck yet I don't think we're going to repeat what happened last night unless we get it all you came from yeah that's crazy we should have filmed it but I figure I got your kitchen I build the one that got away the first one I think that's cool we're in one of the rougher spots of the river now the Blake and I have been paddling for about two hours since we stopped for lunch and we think we're about a couple miles from our campsite so that means we've come like 18 miles so far and it's only 2:30 that'll be great vision right there we're finding that the speed of the river right now helps us cover a lot more miles than we figured we would we're also still learning what our feet is really phonetic yeah gage yeah we really don't know what we're doing in canoes I mean this is just a rental canoe that we rented from an outfitter Lisl but it's been awesome so far today it's been sunny all day like 70 degrees 60 70 degrees crazy amount of wild fish or wildlife this trip yeah five Eagles five bald eagle we've seen five bald eagles two of which or three of which were four three of which were today yeah all this morning so if you get out early in the morning like 8 a.m. on the river they're just Eagles everywhere whistling now it's rain yeah a little rain cloud more yeah oh wait diesel did that come on to the right like I thought yep my hat on why way out in the middle okay okay yeah yeah I got you yeah I wouldn't be this rain will pass real quick oh it's a little harder than half of them we just got a quick little rainstorm I came through - inoculation for survival oh yeah so we're going to wrap around completely yeah exactly we've spotted home for the night the green little green trees the head that should be the island before you stayin out tonight so we're going to head down the right side of it and go check it out and see what's up so Blake and I have arrived on the island and we're just walking through it looking for a campsite it's really beautiful wildflowers and ferns here we go campsite oh my god here's our campsite even better right there and we're back to get the canoe their view at the campsite all right the Blake and I have made it to camp we got everything set up here and we're just about to cook dinner pretty much the usual routine yeah Plus River plus the river we got it really awesome I mean our campsite we're just looking out over the river it's a little bit lighter event yeah it's awesome but I mean it's 5:00 5:45 yeah so we got here plenty early just going to hang out and relax this is our last night we got 10 more miles on the river tomorrow and then we'll be done 45 miles oh yeah 45 miles was the total of roughly exploring the island looking for potential fishing spots and not having a whole lot of luck a beautiful island though yes magical this is tall tall grass and flowers wildflowers massive trees and painting of wildlife there where they love the island vibe sycamore's as ever those were some of these yeah with the white they're awesome they're pretty so you got this awesome tree here that at one point came down but then continued to grow it's pretty awesome-looking head back to the other side of the island we got one to the bass yeah welcome ajan that Christians caught like 45 basses trip it was an easy one - it's pretty so that's the smallest we tricot or like it's a medium yeah not nearly what we were catching last night no no no but it's nice yeah that's close what we get in Ohio yeah a successful fish as I turn the camera on hell yeah dan dude yeah full blooper reel that's the first bird nests some Blake and I just finished fishing we ended up only getting that one fish now we're just back at camp well as usual we're just going to chill out have this fire eat a little bit of food and then we're going to go to bed more miles paddle out ten miles tomorrow unfortunately for sure good though we did good yeah we were surprised how fast we did 20 yeah it's just this current I mean the rover sure the river is flowing well considering we don't really ever do this we had no idea really what our pace would be yeah and yeah I was surprised about today about today's piece we got here at 3:30 yeah 20 miles with a lot of fishing and a lot of fishing in lollygaggin and I didn't feel like I was it I mean we were working hard but I wasn't like locking it all day yeah no all right so it's morning number three about 8 a.m. and we're going to set in for the last leg of our journey here a new journey wrap up ten miles and we'll be at the trap so I'm going to slit in there wait for us yeah so let's slide on in forget a good way to get the scenario last night on film I know how we managed to get this canoe to where it is right now looks like it's a little simple but it wasn't I mean it seems flower today doesn't it no too intense when you're growing up pull it up stream yeah yeah I like this guy darling thank you oh you got a little little bass mulberry yeah it was just a little bad we got about six miles or so left until we're in M Linton was our last stop of the trip it was raining a little bit earlier but sun's out now today's supposed to be the warmest stick yeah gotta take this right at all I know I bet you're cooking in that yes not yet I was going to say that all right Blake got one real mmm like little smallmouth computing though the first round of the de Skinner nice told you that the spinner would work I thought you said you don't have one this is the bigger - the bigger spinner oh okay there's a room to get - greater and the thing I'll be like first fish in the canoe this whole trip everything else has been from the bank you you
