hey everybody welcome back to the wolf pit with another episode of what are we eating canned corned beef hash was a staple in my house when i was growing up it still is to this day we'd have it for breakfast lunch or dinner always with a poached or fried egg on top canned corned beef hash is relatively inexpensive filling and delicious so today we're trying three big brand names of canned corned beef hash and one can of generic corned beef hash to see which brand is the tastiest and the bigger bang for your buck the armor hearty home style corned beef hash comes in a 14 ounce can and costs 2 dollars and 19 cents the generic food line corned beef hash also comes in a 14 ounce can and costs two dollars and nine cents hormel's merry kitchen home style corned beef hash comes in a 14 ounce can and costs 3.19 libby's corned beef hash comes in a 15 ounce can and costs 3.19 here's a list of ingredients for all four cans of corned beef hash and if you notice libby's is the only one that specifically states corned beef as an ingredient now if you notice all the ingredients are pretty much the same in all four cans but if you'll also notice the ingredients in the hormel corned beef hash and the food line corned beef hash are exactly the same so i wonder if food line corned beef hash is made by hormel now here's the nutritional value per can they're all relatively the same but if you notice the nutritional facts in the hormel and the food line corned beef hash are exactly the same so i'm putting my money on that food line corned beef hash is actually hormel corned beef hash sold at a generic price so let's get the corned beef hash out of the can and into a skillet the first can of corned beef hash we're trying is the armor brand i've my skillet over medium high heat with a light coating of cooking oil so into the skillet it goes [Music] once all the corned beef is out of the can and into the skillet smash it out into an even layer and then let it sit there for four to five minutes don't move it around you want it to build a nice crispy golden brown crust to the perfect level of crispification and if you constantly move it around that'll never happen after cooking on medium high for five minutes it's time to flip our corned beef hash and this is a pretty moist corned beef hash compared to most corned beef hashes so i wasn't necessarily able to achieve my perfect level of crispification but it'll still be good so let it cook for another four to five minutes and then we'll be ready to try it after cooking for a total of nine minutes our corned beef hash is ready so we scooped up a spoonful and it actually had a very nice crust to it so into the old pie hole and down the gullet it went and i've got to say this was pretty bland there wasn't a whole lot of flavor to it at all especially a corned beef flavor beef baby but not necessarily corn beef like i said it was very moist it's not overly salty but it's also lacking flavor which is very surprising even after a couple more bites i wasn't getting the corned beef flavor i was looking for now let's get the generic food lion corned beef hash out of the can and into the skillet and you cook all of these corned beef hashes the same way into a skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side or until you reach the perfect level of brownification and crispification [Music] after four minutes we gave it a flip and as you can see it browned up much nicer than the armor and that's due to it being a little drier after cooking for another four minutes for a total of eight minutes our food line canned corned beef hash is ready so here it is all plated up and it looks pretty good but it does look dry but it did achieve the perfect level of crispification it was nice and crispy and bland just like the armor what is going on here so far both cans of the corned beef hash that i've tried tasted absolutely nothing like corned beef and even though the armor corned beef hash didn't brown up as nicely due to it containing more moisture and the food line corned beef hash browned up perfectly i actually prefer the moist corned beef hash over the dry corned beef hash but to be fair i think the armor was too moist and i think the food lion was too dry both brands of corned beef hash were disappointing so now let's try the hormel merry kitchen's corned beef hash now it came out looking dry but not nearly as dry as the food line corned beef hash what i did notice was in the food line corned beef hash there was either some brown sauce or brown meat mixed in with the corned beef which i also noticed in the hormel corned beef hash so once again flatten it out and let it go for four to five minutes over medium-high heat after about four minutes give it a flip now earlier i thought the food line corned beef hash might be made by hormel since the ingredients and the nutrition facts were exactly the same and food lines still may be made by hormel but hormel's corned beef hash looks to have the perfect amount of moisture it's not too dry and it's not too wet after cooking for a total of eight minutes our hormel merry kitchen corned beef hash is ready and here it is all plated up and so far out of all three cans of corned beef hash the hormel one is the one that's browned up the nicest without looking too dry or too moist so we got a spoonful and into the old pie hole and down the goat it went and the texture was great it wasn't too moist it wasn't too dry and it was cooked to the perfect level of crispification but it was bland as well maybe a touch saltier but again no corned beef flavor whatsoever now for the fourth and final can of corned beef hatch the libby's so out of the can and into the skillet it went now again once it's out of the can smash it out into an even layer and let it cook for four to five minutes after four minutes give it a flip now this is looking very similar to the hormel corned beef hash it's browning up very nicely and it's moist but not too moist and not too dry now let it cook for another four to five minutes and a secret to know when to flip your corned beef hash is when the potatoes start popping they'll literally start popping out like popcorn after cooking for a total of eight minutes our libby's corned beef hash is ready here we are all plated up and ready for the last taste test so we got a big spoonful and it looks just as good as the hormel corned beef hash and the food line corned beef hash and just like the hormel and the food line corned beef hash it was cooked to the perfect level of crispification and it was perfectly moist and not too dry but there was one thing that the libby's corned beef hash had that the other three cans of corn beef hash did not and that's flavor to be specific a corned beef flavor libby's has with the other three cans we're missing the wonderful flavor of corned beef with the aromatic flavors of the pickling spices well they whoever they are always say to save the best for last and that's what happened with this taste test the olivies corned beef hash was by far the best of the four and the armor was my least favorite and the food line and the hormel they weren't bad but they were just missing the important flavor of corned beef hatch corned beef and there's one important thing that i forgot to mention in the cans of core beef hash all four the potatoes were cooked perfectly none were undercooked and none were overcooked thank you all very much for watching and i'll see you soon you
