Can We Makeover An Entire House for Less Than $1000??? (PART 1)

hello welcome you have a sleeping moon here my mom Grammy know and we also have moons room in tow shuttle yeah we're trying to go up with a name for it you'd actually wants to be called that oh yeah Kate I'm Griselda and I'm Steve so we have two kids Caleb's here and Sebastian's at school about a year ago we moved into Steve's parents house when we did move in it kind of needed a little bit of love a lot of a lot of love we kind of started that but you know working six days a week it's not easy to kids right now I'm gonna apprentice for the LAUSD I do go to school twice a night I think it's nice first Steve to see you know our kids growing up in the same house that he grew up in enjoying the space that that his parents so graciously allowed us to run out and and take advantage of so mr. cape please remove EVDO all right so you guys know that we like to challenge ourselves and we know that you guys love our budget-conscious brooms when we're on a budget we treat everybody to these makeovers so we're always like okay we want to make sure that they have an awesome makeover but we want to also make sure that these videos are really helpful for you guys and we love a challenge we've done bedrooms on a budget we've done living rooms we did a kitchen on a budget have we done a house on a budget No and can we is the question so we're thinking your solace place might be a good house for this challenge but yes we are going to park the moon puddle shuttle and then we're gonna see you guys yeah okay Lulu's asleep we have to figure out of parts of the result is dry way but [Music] alright I'm gonna cut now because we're trying to figure out how to get the trailer into their driveway which thankfully it's a really nice long driveway but as you guys have seen before this is a whole situation alright so this is your house this is one of the most serious pieces of beep everything's on the walls you've been busy obviously raising two kids you're working hard you're stay home alright so you guys have your hands so full so I understand why some things are still on the list so your parents on this house so you guys are running it from your parents yeah I grew up in this house I was born and raised here until I think I was 22 me and my brother was sleep on couches because we it's only a two bedroom house and my sister had the one-bedroom so we were unlike a huge budget when we to our apartment right on a huge on all but five lifted a lot of stuff quality time we're actually a steel cuz they're 150 bucks oh my god and this is like combo dining room though because why is it a good minute they eat and then some common we mean what could be like a comfortable living area and then over here you have kitchen on the left and a better mother right it was supposed to be the kids room but our older son sleeping with us at the apartments to me used to just like being with us okay we had to move all this over years if you can still be there and then it makes me nervous to have like such a tall strong alright usually not in here I'm sure my son would be super excited to have like this playroom / by making the yeah he's been a good boy a room how old is he he's three and a half because he pleased in the crib that's converted into a child it's not great okay this is also very interesting this okay let's go back into your master bedroom look at that okay so jelly so this is the room that you were saying to make into like an eating space for the kids this could be used better I think the state could be use better but I see all the white guys end up in that room - kizaki room feels really open okay but let's go into the master bedroom the core so the issue obviously in here is that you guys have a king-size bed so you're just kind of like launched onto it yeah well he had some roll if you had legs animator oh no Joey project is living dining room master bedroom kids room for gonna push up in a hotel you're just spend the week swimming and hopefully when you come back it will [Music] hopefully alright guys we're in the magical Airstream doubling as our onset meeting room but right now moon is out walking with granny so what we're gonna talk about the design because obviously the challenge with these types of really really budget conscious videos it's not like I can go online and just kind of buy here and they're like we have to shop thrift store or like side of the road or reuse upcycle what they have what we're going to do is we're going to go to restore which is Habitat for Humanity store which is great because they have a lot of those bigger items they have a ton of furniture stuff for like really inexpensive yeah what are we thinking for the budget we want to try to do it for a grand so for rooms living room bedroom kitchen room breakfast nook for that's crazy like we're putting that out there and we're gonna really try to do that also this is this is house on a budget we're not doing their kitchen or their bathroom during the buying shape but like that's a whole other bag of worms so first and foremost we need to analyze what is working already and what we can upcycle so I mean the living room decoration right now is great yeah that is like the most serious case of why lightest we've seen in a while the sofa situation in there just like I know they thrift store bought those but they're stained it would be really hard to do a sofa and a loveseat so I think we get a new sofa hopefully some matching chairs the paint is in good shape I think we save money by not trying to paint all those walls the curtains are like in pretty good shape we could maybe use them in like another room I would love to be able to get longer curtains or in there just because the ceilings are high I think rug will do wonders for grounding the conversation area I think we can keep a play area in that living room as well right now they have those two little chairs okay let's talk about the master bedroom master bedroom super weird room because it's so narrow and at that giant king-size yeah so maybe we just try to embrace that and do like a platform bed that fits that whole area where the bed is right now because the awkward thing is you can't walk down the sides of the bed and there's nowhere else in that room to the bed unless we give them a smaller bed which which we're not gonna do cuz right now they sneak with the toddler and then the three-year-old is in the crib in that room but they really want to move him into his room and I think that because there's no closet in that room and they use the armoire right now in the kids room we move the arm walk into the master and create just kind of like a full master suite in there for them there's also that like random table that they have in the breakfast nook but I think we make into like a little desk vanity in the bedroom then the kids room Sebastian is the three-year-old and they want him to move in there into a big boy bed so we're gonna try to hopefully find a bed for him in there the dresser and there's in pretty good shape so I don't think we need to do anything with that I would like to make it feel more fun like a kid's room so maybe do some sort of like paint technique or something on the wall and then that fixed that weird closet I'm just gonna say that closet is so weird the fact that they put those doors in but just left the gaping hole above it so like yeah that's easy a tiny just scrap piece of drywall we might have it like the studio or something just and then paint we've got this dark brown trim in the kids room and also in the master not cute we definitely have to paint that out so obviously one of the things we got to figure out is they have their dining room right now in their living room right and Chris Alda said she would love to be able to use the breakfast nook as their dining area because it's linked closer to the kitchen right now she has to walk from the kitchen put the kids at the table she said they throw the food all over the floor in the living room so we can work it out and find a table for the breakfast nook that would be amazing and then make the little living room the breakfast nook the dining area for rooms thousand dollars also I'm talking about because it's ringspot training I'm giving them their whole like range of security and hooking them up with this system so I'm gonna go tell you guys about this I'm gonna install this and then we'll go shopping and hopefully try to find some stuff at restore yes I'm gonna go find my mom and Moon and get him a snack I'm nervous excited can we do it $1,000 Russian all right guys so one of the first things I noticed when we came over do you hear anything I don't either fortunately ring a sponsor today's I'll let you Becky can reuse up theirs because obviously that is going to be essential for our budget because we have to buy so much stuff otherwise so this dresser that's in here and the kid's room is actually in great shape it's a nice piece I know that she's worried about this like toppling over on the kids which is why she doesn't even let them come in here by themselves so we will definitely be bolting this to the wall so that she can feel more comfortable and then there's also a floor lamp that's in great shape so la-dee-da lamp dresser more things we can reuse they have curtains that are in great shape I think we're gonna reuse these in the master and maybe if we have it in the budget try to get bigger ones for in here because these are short code short and this is like a nice tall ceiling so if we can get cheaper lower curtain panels that would be amazing those who have these cute little chairs here that the kids use and love we're gonna reuse and then she also has this little like mail sorter thing that wasn't even hung up yet we're going to hang up for them so we're really scrounging around and making sure that we can reuse upcycle anything oh my gosh a playhouse for moon no no I'm so excited I love this place oh my God look at that the first thing oh my god we have to get that moon your first drum set we need that wait I gotta get hold stickers alright so what are we looking for ouch cow because we could reuse their couch we could I mean it's ironic that we're here at a thrift store to look for a sofa when they already got their existing soap was it their story I like to think of it like it's like a cyclical process of because if we're gonna get a new one here we're gonna just end up bringing that other one back so someone else can enjoy it if they rot I mean go back they're not like creams really cool all right this is 120 no really that's good very good deal yeah let's come together I know it all right now I if we could find accent chairs like to give them like a proper couch an accent chairs coffee table yeah cool this coffee tables actually really nice wow that's huge it's cool for the kids it could be like that's really cool what for the kids they just sit at it on the ground and we can also get the dolphin lamp to go with it I mean there's also these obviously but I feel like that's what this is more like old school this is definitely the most kind of like that clean bohemian okay so we need these slippers you're gonna cool yeah but there's only one of them no there's two the stripes are still like a neutral they're in good condition that's a good-looking set if we also get that with the copy of always yeah oh my gosh Joey this for the Nook look what is it what's the price thirty to thirty two dollars for this bball yes can we take it I mean that's good that's great oh my god moon's first vertical rug cut off I know and how cool is it that these are all new that's like a major major bonus of these are new rugs brand new 8 by 10 rug for 80 bucks cuz it's a hundred bucks where we get 20% off that's amazing ok great ok they would be like 300 or more do you like any of these I do ooh yeah that's and that has that sort of bohemian kind of Bible so it has like a little bit of a global influence what do you think this with the brown and white striped chairs though well my only concern has been too much brown brown and neutral yeah I have to see the chairs against this he's got the hiccups [Music] Boop that work [Music] oh I'm sorry are you so sweaty now we better be getting these chairs mm I think we're enough to do this one oh yeah that matches yeah that is what we're talking about much better where are my hold stickers oh wait lighting I'm gonna hold it with my but you keep going this is a simple overhead oh my gosh moon $15 this would be good for the kids room I think that's the move for sure so I think we want this I don't know what color I'm supposed to get cha-ching white or gray oh don't worry we're all covered I got the sheets [Applause] [Music] sheets check it out oh my gosh linen I got a light gray and a dark gray yes and then look meets like a couple of these for the kids room rug yeah and what do you think about this can you pull this out it's not just careful oh they don't match but that's kind of cool these next to each other will be a minimalist but like bohemian meets minimal moment I love that so we'll take the glass out there that's Mary that's very like farmhouse so we just need to go find some mirrors like mirrors will help it visit is efficient right we came through their store has everything it let's go for a nap ready for now cool check out yeah [Music] [Applause] oh my gosh those closet doors are gonna look so much better wait and that weird little area in the kids room but I'm gonna do a quick DIY piece of art for the kids room something really inexpensive reusing the elements the supplies that we have so this is the green color that we're using in the master there's literally just like the tiniest bit left down here in the can so I'm going to use that with some water good old water free from the tap I guess it's technically not free but we'll call it for you for this project and some painters tape which we have leftover as well and I'm just going to do like a simple a gradient rainbow [Music] okay no I'm going to add a little water to my brush so now presumably it will be a little bit more thinned out presumably [Music] last stripe is even more water okay so basically we just pretended that wall paint is watercolor paint because why not all right so the master bedroom is a challenge an offset window it's a narrow room they have a California king bed so what we got to do is we got to embrace the funkiness and we're gonna just create a platform bed type situation but it's more like a built-in bed so I've been racking my brain all night about how can we get this done for super cheap so my solution involves two pieces of plywood and three studs we got lucky the bedroom is ninety six inches if your bedrooms bigger than this and you still want to make this bed that's fine you just have to make sides we don't have to make sides so we don't have to use as much wood so basically if this is the bedroom we're gonna build a platform all the way out eighty six inches and then the mattress is gonna just sit on top of this platform that's gonna be seven inches high I'm actually securing the whole thing into place with three pieces with just 2x4 studs this is super cheap you get for like 250 each it's gonna be the railings for the bed and then I'm also going to cut it into seven inch pieces for the legs and I think it's actually gonna be pretty hip [Music] walk mountains budget mountain okay guys we are in the kids room and have a nice coat of white paint on in here and I want to create a mural because it's just a white room now it looks a lot fresher and better remember our key word fresh we're freshening up in here and I want to do a budget saving mural so only using two colors of paint so I thought the best thing for that would be to do kind of like a mountain range but you know very sort of like minimalist mountain range and because we have these near divider things happening here like we have this weird beam and whatever going across I'm going to use that to my benefit and have that be kind of my like border for the canvas of the mural that's going to go over here on this wall [Music] okay first Mountain done and now I'm going to use the gray color for these other two mountains and let's just call that the fastest most inexpensive mural ever whether we go these chairs me too running around I know well you are very experienced at carrying these now oh my gosh this is so much better I'm so glad that we caught that perfect it's so cool recently get stole my stuff I want to get like a lot of plants because that's her style oh and he runs a snack okay can you look at this budget I'm at 590 already I don't have any accessories hi hi so 400 no wait you don't have a paint on this was it was a wonder in 10 no is 80 it was 80 okay six 69 96 I know and then you may get curtains we need to get accessories galore like what else plan we already got a couch a giant rug two chairs in the coffee table and a truck we need like some kind of like DIY or something for the
