SUSPECT: I didn't do anything wrong. Can you stop? Can you just-- Officer, it wasn't me! I was in the passenger seat! [MUSIC - INNER CIRCLE, "BAD BOYS"] (SINGING) What you want, what you gonna do when the Sheriff John Brown come for you. OFFICER: We've got an issue with fictitious 68 tags. And I noticed one on her vehicle. And I ran it. And when I got return on it, it came back to me as a stolen license plate. So I initiated my emergency lights and sirens to initiate the traffic stop. Charlie 1-7-1, we are north on the Hydraulic. The driver then gunned it and wasn't going to stop. The driver went through a couple stop signs before it turned south through an alleyway. The vehicle pulled out onto another street, almost crashing into a car. Stolen license plate, potential stolen vehicle. We're heading west. [SIRENS WAILING] Traffic stops are some of the most dangerous deals that we have to go through because you never know what's going to happen. We teach our officers to have emergency vehicle operation training so that we can handle our vehicles in certain stressful situations. But that's not something that the average citizen goes through. Speeds of 50, no traffic. I'm coming up to Harry. Ran into a house on Boston. We noticed the single driver exit the vehicle. We gave chase on foot. And after informing the driver that if they didn't stop, they were going to be Tased, the driver succumbed, and followed orders, and was taken into custody at that time. SUSPECT: I didn't do anything wrong! Please stop! Please! Officer, it wasn't me! I was in the passenger seat! OFFICER: When we took her into custody, she tried to tell us that she was running from the vehicle because she was scared and that a guy she knew by the name of Alex was actually driving. She attempted to give us a full description of this Alex individual. And we've got officers in the area looking for him. Alex what? SUSPECT: I don't know his last name. OFFICER: Is he white? Black? Hispanic? SUSPECT: He's Mexican. OFFICER: OK, how old is he? SUSPECT: I don't know. He's like 15. OFFICER: Who is this dude to you? SUSPECT: He's my cousin. OFFICER: He's your cousin and you don't know his last name? SUSPECT: He's not my real cousin. I just call him my cousin. OFFICER: What's your first name? SUSPECT: Jody. OFFICER: J-O-D-Y? She also gave us a fictitious name, and a fictitious birth date. I kind of questioned her on the birth dates that she gave us because she gave me a couple different dates. Through research and through talking with her, when I got her real identification, we kind of confronted her with it and said, hey, we know you are this individual. Why don't you just submit to it? So here's my problems, Jody. I was sitting off the vehicle before you guys left the gas-- the little smoke shop over there. SUSPECT: OK. OFFICER: And I saw a tall individual with a bun just like yours get into the driver's seat. SUSPECT: That's fine. It wasn't me. OFFICER: OK? And this vehicle, where it wrecked out? The people on site saw one person run from that vehicle. SUSPECT: He didn't get out right here. I did. He got out before we hit the house. OFFICER: And it's funny to me. There's black flip-flops lying on the floorboard of that car and you're not wearing any shoes. SUSPECT: I bet you they're not my size. OFFICER: Well, we're not going to play Cinderella today. SUSPECT: No, I'm just saying they're not mine. OFFICER: She kind of crumbled under the pressure and said, yeah, that's me. And I inquired to her, I said, why are you lying about who you are? SUSPECT: [LAUGHS] Because I have a warrant. OFFICER: Who's your warrant through? SUSPECT: My probation officer. I have a license to go-- it's just a misdemeanor. I have to go into [INAUDIBLE]---- well, I was supposed to go into [INAUDIBLE]---- OFFICER: Wait a minute. Your warrant was just a misdemeanor? I said, everything that you've gone through now has created a felony charge on you from running from us. But she was under the impression that she just had this warrant and she thought it was worse than what it was. Later at the jail, as I was going over some charges with her and my paperwork, she told me she really was the one driving the vehicle. Unfortunately, I think this young lady, she just made some poor choices this evening. Unfortunately, tonight you are going to have to go to jail. But I think hopefully that she'll see the brighter side of this and know that some of her choices not made tonight could have been better off. SUSPECT: What's going to happen with my parents? Because I want to get home. I don't want my parents to find out if-- OFFICER: Well, as of right now, you're going to be charged with possession of marijuana. And, as of right now, he's going to be charged with possession of a firearm. SUSPECT: How about me? What do I do? OFFICER: I just told you. SUSPECT: Yeah, but tell me what I do. Are my parents going to find out about this? OFFICER: They're going to know that you went to jail. Yeah.
