Can ChatGPT Teach You a Foreign Language?

hey friends welcome to the channel if you want to improve your writing skills and your reading comprehension in a foreign language in a really cool new way and completely for free you found the right happier more fulfilling life today I will give you some ideas on how to use chat Bots and AI to improve your language learning for that I will give first a brief introduction to chatbots in general and then chat GPT in specific then we will review two different approaches on how you can use this tool for language learning based on real examples let's dive into today's topic chatbots also known as conversational agents are a type of artificial intelligence that can simulate conversation with a human these tools can be a valuable resource for language Learners as they provide a way to practice your writing and speaking abilities if you want to know more about AI in that context and language learning I've already made a video about that I will link it somewhere here one of the most popular chatbots is called chat GPT this chatbot uses Advanced natural language processing technology to understand and respond input from a variety of languages you can use chatgpt to practice your conversation in a new language and also receive instantaneously feedback and Corrections you can register yourself and the access is for private persons like you and me for free just visit their website I will put a link into the description of this video to use strategypt you simply need to start a conversation either in your target language or you use the right prompt to get it into the right mood and to respond to you in the right language in addition chat CPT can also help you to learn new grammar structures and vocabulary if you don't understand something you can always just ask for an explanation and further chechi PT gets also the context so the stuff that you have written it can also refer back to and that's really a game changer if you ask me as previously already explained you can have a chat with chat GPT in a foreign language to train writing as part of a role play to train your specific situations so for example you could try out this one here so we are already at churchgpt as you can see and this is the mask where you put in the prompts okay and I put it in imagine you're a woman named Verona from Italy you are in a bar I'm a man named Louis we are having a conversation he will say one sentence as Verona and wait for my response as a side and analyze my use of the Italian language and give me suggestions to improve it as you can see the chat starts um the problem here is that it also responds so the first phase is of Verona seconds of Lewis that happens from time to time but you can just proceed now you could do it like this so it also gave you some suggestions for improving the use of the Italian language so I corrected itself so now always says um Kik because uh uh for example what do you want to drink now we are waiting for the response foreign [Music] there you go so it corrected already something that's what I wanted to see here because I made a grave error I said but but it's kikos avoid beer and that corrected me already and that's nice and I get the response from Verona now I proceed with ah see my TiVo or um okay now let's see what wine Verona likes really foreign there you go and it also corrected my phrase again and as you can see like this you can have a whole conversation and you can proceed you can ask different questions and this is just the tip of the iceberg you can also ask more complex questions and other stuff like for example I don't know uh ah with the Action Motor La originally cool yeah say ja stop it now I put in again a prompt there should be some errors let's see if it detects them okay she hasn't been there yet and there you go in Italian the correct way to ask do you like the region of Puglia is actually right because I'm talking about me um but yeah now it says how I could phrase it if I want to ask her if she likes region and it also explains the grammar and that's pretty sick so that's next level of and like this you can go on forever if chbt gets you know also a function to generate audio then that's really Next Level I mean even one level further this is already pretty Advanced but I got a trick how you can also create some audio and I will show it to you as part of the next exercise in the end so stick to the video you can also use chat GPT to generate some comprehensive and compelling input and you can let it write actually stories for you including translations grammar explanations and vocab you can for example use the following prompt please write the first paragraph of a story in Italian the scenarios that dystopia where global warming and atomic war have made Earth inhabitable yeah I wrote The Hairs but I know it has to be had okay and then it would respond to you in Italian of course you can put in any other language and any other scenario it's just an example now you have the first paragraph in Italian and it's good I mean it's wearing okay now next step is you could ask it for the most difficult vocab with translations okay I don't know if it's really the most difficult vocab but some other stuff like quidati lotta chibo results that might be useful but there's one problem so now you can let it provide the same list again but first in Translation and then the original word and then dividing it by a comma and this way now you can import it into your favorite flashcard application like enki for example and then I really like and now the next step has been that I asked it to provide always a list like that when I asked for vocab like going forward because it has the context and it will keep that in mind and if it can also pick up some phrases and yeah explain a bit the the grammar to me and some Concepts and I did that for example here in in futuro this topico in a dystopian future the article un is used to indicate that the non-futuro is singular and masculine and it goes on like that and explains some more that's pretty neat and then of course yeah you can proceed with the story and I asked it if it could elaborate a bit on Eva and how she became leader of the group and yeah and it does that it comes up with a continuation of the story and then I asked for a translation it also did that so you could also directly from the beginning asked it to always provide also a translation in English for example and then I proceeded and asked whatever's life was like before the catastrophe happened and it did also that and like this you would progress through the story and you would build up yeah like comprehensible or comprehensive story actually you only need to keep in mind that you just let it always write one paragraph at a time or something like that because at some point it starts crashing and since you already know that it can provide speech I still got one more thing for you because I found a workaround for that I'm a big fan of the application link and now let's see what I got there so I imported the first paragraph of the text into link here it is and here you can generate audio of the lesson so let's see how that works okay now we have audio and now let's listen to that is [Music] and now you have also audio I know it's not as good as like handmade audio or like like real sporting audio by a real human but it's not that bad I think it's it's actually pretty usable I've had worse audios that have been recorded by real humans so yeah I would say that's quite neat please let me
