Building a Wooden Shop Door from Scratch

well it's one thing after another at the shop and this time I broke the front door well I broke the front door like two years ago and I put a quick fix on it but ever since then it's kind of been resting on the deadbolt which means that you have to lift the entire weight of the door in order to unlock it and then open it that's not a problem for me but it is a problem for all of my friends and colleagues who want to use the shop as well as the poor guy who has to come in and check my water meter once a month it's time to finally fix the door unfortunately this door is a little bit of an unusual size for an exterior commercial door it's 48 inches wide and 84 inches tall on top of that it's a hollow construction wooden door which is pretty unusual for an exterior door now having a big chunk a store like this is super convenient when you want to do something like load in a pick-and-place machine or a laser cutter but it's inconvenient when you have to go looking for one in somebody's warehouse so I can have one made but I have to pay to have it made then I have to pay to have it Freight shipped to me and I have to pay for a lift gate service because I don't have a receiving dock for a freight truck all of that gets pretty expensive pretty quickly so I decided I'm gonna try to build the door myself using materials I can buy at the hardware store I'm pretty confident that this is something that I'm gonna be able to do and well I'm kind of sure this is something I'm gonna be able to do how hard could it be right let's find out [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right there you have it you have a new front door on the shop it doesn't require an extensive strength training regiment in order to open and I spent $300 on it but I got some tools out of the deal and I think the door is worth at least twice that I couldn't get a door of this quality for $300 from a door manufacturer and all I had to put into it was a little bit of sweat equity so I think we got away with it anyway I hope you enjoyed the video and I'll see you next time happy hacking
